Quick one, cannot use the keypad after flash - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Flashed to the Niki ROM and now cant use the actual keypad to type letters, only numbers come up. I also cannot get the keypad up on the screen, only the keyboard. Massive headache for me!! Have done all options in the handset but I think I need to do something else and am unsure what, any ideas Oh great ones?

I had the same problem. The original 16-key HTC ROM worked well with the hardware keyboard. I flashed to what I thought was a slightly updated ROM for the same device from HTC e-club, and then the keypad would only type numbers.
I unlocked and installed another ROM from this forum (using RUU_Nike_HTCASIA_WWE_1.31.707.09_Radio_Nike_1.58.16.27_signed_Ship now with good results) to fix it.

Even enabling T9 in the ROM menu doesn't do it. I like the Niki ROM a lot but if I cant get either the physical keys typing letters or the onscreen 'phone keypad up to type with that then I'll reflash to the tmob rom.

Ignore me, forgot to turn it off and back on again!!

having the same prob with Niki ROM.
only numbers showing when typing with hardware keyboard.
tried to enable/disable xT9 in ROM settings and soft-reset afterwards but doesn't help at all...
rgs,
pirlone

I hard reseted first, then turned t9 on in ROM menu and then soft reseted. Hope that helps mate.

Problem:word selection when using keypad

Hi dual-owners,
Anyone has a problem where when typing using the keypad (slideout keypad) you cant use the navigate button (left/right) to select the predictive word options.
U will need to touch the word option instead.
I think there was only one time where I could successfully use the navigation to select the words when typing?
Is this a common problem??
Thanks

Not me. I always navigate right and left with the button... Have you tried a soft-reset?
still a problem
Yes Sir,
I tried many soft resets - seemed weird at 1st but thought thats the best they (HTC)could do with a slide out keypad.
The navigation button to select word option works when ur not using the keypad (slid back in) but once u start to use it - the navigation button just wont work for me. have to reach up and select a tiny word option (which most of the time i miss) ..
This is my 1st PPC (sold my slow n95) and i love it except for this little annoyance + no wifi
So fellow PPC owners- if anyone has a solution i'll be grateful.
cheers
try hard resetting your device, (note not a soft reset.)
as it works fine on my orange branded touch dual.
it could be related to the operator rom that is on it, but i wouldn;t expect so.
Hi there,
I also have the same problem.
I also tried many soft reset but is the same.
I found PQz II Keyboard has an issue with this problem.
After uninstalling it, actually I had a hard reset and then install software one by one, the problem has gone.
Hope this help.
Yup thanks! all!
Did a hard reset and everything is back to normal (all workin fine now)- oh yeah the blank notification thingy is also gone -
Be AWARE: prior to hard reset make sure ur files in the storage arent encrypted and at least back em up somewhere. Cause my files (pics and music etc) became unreadable after the hard reset . (this is due to the encryption key that was auto-set by the phoneware on my "phone-state" prior to hard reset.)
Cheers

How can i fix this ??
First of all, trying with a soft reset, then, if it doesn't works try with a Hard Reset, if this doesn't works either, go to a SAT.
Good Luck
Hi,
which software-version do you use?
BR
Michael
ok fixed the problem, after 2 hourse of searching i found this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
I installed the Keyboard.cab file and now touch Keyboard works again....

Null Thread

This thread can be closed.
I am able to reproduce this situation, but extrangely, my 20 keys keyboard acts as a 16 one (my error, downloaded the wrong cab).
Will update with the right one.
Edit:
Installed the QVGA_CpKbd cab and the bug still exists. This situation happens whilst using abc mode. With T9, a weirder thing happens. Typing for "holy" (4 key press) and hitting backspace, instead of deleting a letter, it changes the word to "gole" (still 4 letters). Same thing happens on the soft keyboard, but the abc "problem" is fully solved.
If you need further information, dont doubt in asking.

Thanks a lot for testing it.
Now, a list of questions that might seems weird or even deserve an obvious answer, but that are of utmost importance.
1] Your rom is WWE based ?
2] Are you experiencing the issue using the english language ?
3] The T9 english dictionary doesn't have a 'gole' word. Could you launch eT9MyWords from the Programs folder, and check if it has been added as a custom word ? If yes, could you delete it and make the T9 test again ? This doesn't seem to be an hardware issue like the first - it might be unrelated.
4] you say that the backspace issue happens only in ABC mode. Please open the T9 settings and uncheck the "Word Completion in ABC mode" checkbox and the "Spell Correction" one. I don't know if you can set these options even when using the hardware keyboard, but just try. Then, try to see if the backspace issue is still there.
I'm sorry to overwhelm you with questions, but I have just a Kaiser, and I can't reproduce the issues here, first of all because my hardware mapping files are different.
If you can help, your support will be greatly appreciated. If not by the other 'get it and run' users, at least by me and a small good bunch of fellows (who are too timid to post their reports ).
Thanks !!
1] I believe it is, but cant assure it. The rommaker post is this
2]yes, the language was set in english
3]I have seen gole was added to eT9MyWords. Deleting the word, seems T9 works as expected.
4]removing autocomplete in abc mode keeps the disfuntion. Uncheking spell correction and auto-substitution wont solve this issue. Also tried uncheking T9 word completion without success
Ps:
Been trying with all T9 settings checked (spell correction, completion in T9, completion in abc and auto-substitution) and the problem gets fixed. When I tested the first time, spell correction wasnt checked. This makes some changes, as the whole last word keeps "selected", instead of the last word. This could work as a workaround.
Weird thing is that I cant manage to keep T9 mode on. Each time I try to write a new sms, it defaults to abc.
Dont worry if you need more tests, or even installing a debug version (or whatever you would need)

Uhmm... another rom with the Opal EzInput installed. So far all the cooked roms have been using a pre-release version which doesn't include the fix that you can find on my thread. See, basically, HTC manages HW layouts in four different ways, and the settings extracted from the Opal rom are those for phones without keyboards. You can't imagine how many issues are related to this mixed configuration. I don't think this is the case, but only our tests will be able to tell the truth.

Good move, very good move. But the fact is that if you unselect one option - I suppose - the issue reappears.
I can't understand what's happening. Actually, what's the difference between the correct behaviour and this one ?
In ABC mode, does the last letter always gets selected when you type ?
I thought that the letter was reappearing because the ABC autocomplete option or the spell check were trying to correct it.
So, if you write just a bunch of meaningless letters, and then delete the last, does it reappear ?
After these tests, if you have a registry editor, could you try to delete this key, to see if it helps ? You should soft reset, after that.
HKLM/Software/Tegic/eT9/IME/KdbFiles/07FF
It's an empty keyvalue.

We can probably fix this one.
You can change this value:
HKLM/Software/Tegic/eT9/CarrierDefaultTextMode
from 0 to 1. Soft reset after that.
This should give you T9 as default. Do you mean that this should be the default mode, on the Dual ? I've read elsewhere that HTC has made a fix to set ABC as default. Weird.
Dont worry if you need more tests, or even installing a debug version (or whatever you would need)

I might ask you to uninstall my cab and delete all the keys used by the application, to be sure to avoid any misconfiguration chance, but this would mean that you would have to hard rest the device to bring them back.
I know that Manila2D users should be prepared to make an hard reset for each build, but it's a bit too 'destructive'. But we might proceed to do it the next time you're going to do it anyway, right ?
The fact is that I'm walking in the dark, and everyone seems interested just in his phone. Quite embarrassing for the whole forum, if it were not for the few users willing to help, like you.
Thanks a lot for your great support.
Well, i have unchecked every setting (spell correction, completion in T9, completion in abc and auto-substitution) and the problem keeps appearing. What I have seen is that you have to press backspace really quick, as the selected letter goes deselected in just a second.
In ABC mode, does the last letter always gets selected when you type ?

Thats it, in abc mode, with spell correction unchecked, only the last letter keeps selected. Otherwise, is the last whole word the one selected.

Yes, its certainly the spell checking the step causing the issue.
Have deleted HKLM/Software/Tegic/eT9/IME/KdbFiles/07FF (and also edit HKLM/Software/Tegic/eT9/CarrierDefaultTextMode, thanks for that) and softresetted. Now the problem only can be reproduced when checking Auto-substitution (the other three options unchecked), but still exists.
I will hardreset if you need it (it´s not a big deal), and maybe its a rom-related error, as Manilla is still beta. Maybe I wont be able to do it as quick as changing some reg keys, but will definetly do it.
PS: The CarrierDefaultTextMode hasnt changed the T9-default-behaviour. I´m not sure if HTC wants abc as default, but i believe each user should be able to choose and mantain it. The funny thing is that I don`t use the hard keyboard at all, as I just my Nike to call and get called.
Sorry for my probably frequent engrish

You're then saying that deletion of that key actually changes something.
Well, at least I can remove it safely. I though that it was just an error in one of the fixes made by HTC, and it seems I was right. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be enough.

No, there's no need to hurry. I've asked to 16keys users to test it, too, and they report the same issue. Chances that everyone is using a wrong rom are low, quite low. But whe you will be ready, we can give it a try...

Well, I fear that you're just too kind
Others are reporting the same issue, so something needs to be fixed.
But the registry settings that I've put in the Nike cabs are exactly the ones that come from the stock roms and the keyboard hotfixes from HTC, so it could be a problem related to the fact that HTC is no longer developing for the Nike form factor.
I know that this is better than nothing, but all the time I'm spending on it just for a "better than nothing" is not a good thing...
Anyway, I almost missed your post - could you come back to the official thread ? A least I'll have more time to debug that damned cab...

I would like to see swedish language support. Reason: IMO I think quite a lot of swedes use these devices.
Using BJK's packaged I had two differences to the reg settings above:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9]
"HTCStyleSelectionList" was set to 1
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
"3PartyIME" was set to 1
There are other values in place as his package is for 5 languages.
Regardless of whether these values were set to 1 or 0 the backspace issue as mentioned above always occurs.

You'll see it, but after the main bugs will be solved.
Swedish is still missing some files that have to be rebuilt from scratch, and obviously the support has to go first to the problems that are affecting all users...

Touch Pro Pop Up On Screen Keyboard

How do I make this feature go away when in landscape mode and I am using the slider? Help!!!
Ummm, hit the keyboard icon right below the onscreen keyboard?
I want it to permanently stay down unless I tell it to pop up. It shouldn't pop up if the slider is out.
null keyboard. should solve the problem (i had it installed on my treo, and i think it should work fine on the TP)
http://discussion.treocentral.com/archive/index.php/t-129200.html
NullKB
While NullKB is the best on-screen keyboard fix I have seen, it's also the ONLY fix I have seen. I have been using it since I had the Sprint HTC Mogul. After installing on The Touch Pro, it tends to keep the KB at bay inconsistently. I am not sure if it stops working automatically upon soft reset but I wish it would control this issue unless otherwise directed.

I have never seen that option in Advanced Config.
I will check today to confirm.
I hate touching my phone while sharing internet, They always get cranky and it turns off for some reason.
Null keyboard works. Yay 4 Jugs rom has it built in.
I think he had a newer version then mine. Mine would just load a white box and stay up, His loads the box for a moment, then never comes back. But the bar will come up when its trying to deploy the keyboard.
This one has pissed me off for ages too. Just another one of those things Microsoft should have fixed several versions ago.
I dont think its nessarly their thing.
The dev's just are not writing something in to the phone to tell it to not put the keyboard up when you dont want it.
I dont think its a windows mobile thing at all.
Just remember, what devs think and what actuall users think are tottaly different.
We like no irritations unless we ask for them. They are thinking "well this would be good if the keyboard poped up here right now"
The other problem though with the OSK is that as soon as you bring it up, by accident, or purpose, it will pop up for everything after that. That is the one that bugs me the most.
----
Okay, I checked advanced config, and the option is there, i set it to disabled. Haven't tested it yet.
Working out another issue with standby at the moment.
Sarinhighwind,
Please let us know if the advanced config changed, worked. The on screen keyboard on my Sprint TP, pops up when I go into landscape mode, and then when I start to type using the slider key pad it disappears.
I don't want it to pop up at all.
Thanks.

Just checked, I forgot to earlier.
It does NOT work.
Like a lot of Advanced config features do not at the moment.
I used AC 3.3
The latest as I know of. Or maybe its 3.2 Whatever it was a few days ago when the TP came out.
This one has annoyed me as well... Using AC 3.2 it works well for me, the SKB does not deploy but it required a soft reset before it would work...
I use version 3.3 and it works fine for me. No more keyboard pop up here.
As above. YES you must do a soft reset before it works.
i see u guys arent recommending advanced config on the htc touch pro cdma .. is there one currently that is better... to change startup pick.. change soft key buttons....change order of tabs on tf3d
Another version of this question: how do I make the pop-up icon appear on every screen? (It does not appear on the today screen, for example).
you would use Diamond Tweak
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]"TurnOffAutoDeploy"=dword:00000001
If you make this entry into the reg it turns it off most of the time, in opera doesn't work
I know this is an old topic but I was looking for a solution for my Verizon XV6850 Touch Pro and Diamond Tweak worked for me (on SSK's 2.1.1 rom) but it's the same thing your gonna have to soft reset.
This was most annoying for me because it would pop up when making calender appointments for drop down menus. If you have a drop down why do you need to type in the time???
Anyway it worked like a charm just go down to keyboard (popup) and select disable and you'll be set

Is there a REG Tweak that tells it to always start in 123 mode? My keyboard is stuck in 123 mode and won't switch when I press the abc button on the screen keyboard...

I've tried installing different roms and kernels to try and fix this issue, but the "w" on the portrait keyboard doesn't work - instead it presses "q" and "e".
Is there a way on fixing the keyboard?

Sorry i'm a real noob, but how do you do that?
I cannot find a calibrate option for the life of me :l
when you get into your keyboard hit the little tire looking icon next to the mic.. And try the reset button in the options ^^
Sent from my SHW-M250K using XDA App
Which keyboard are you using?
I press the little cog and it takes me into "saumsung keypad settings" which has keyboard types, input language, xt9, keypad sweeping, character preview, auto-cap, handwriting settings, voice input, auto full stop and tutorial - but no reset?
Just the stock samsung keypad?
Ah yea the samsung one doesn't have a recalibrate option. I'm using the HTC keyboard, which has that option. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16368109#post16368109
When you're installed go to: settings>language and keyboard>HTC ime mod settings>text input...scroll to the bottom to calibration tool..
Hope it works!
Weird how you automatically thought he was using HTC_IME.
I installed that HTC keyboard - the W key on the keyboard still doesn't work - I think it may be to do with that location on the screen?
Paired with this, I can't add contacts to my phone :l I'm using Litening ROM v5 :S
Very odd, could be a faulty screen...may be something to do with the roms you've been flashing..they can make things go funny sometimes.
Can't help with the contacts issue, I've only used stock on this phone.
I think just take it to the shop (after you've flashed original rom of course, and got rid of the yellow triangle thing), and swap it for a new one.
Good luck.
