xv6800 gps doesn't seem to update signal - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

newest dcd, newest radio.
using astro to launch, very few times do i actually get the gps to work, and when it does work, it locks with a bunch of birds within 5 seconds of launching tomtom with astro. The the majority of the other times, when i launch it, it finds like 1 or two the first second then it stops searching, or it just freezes like that and doesn't update the signal. the program doesn't freeze just the bird signal.
tried disabling/re-enabling the location, restart, etc...etc....
is it the radio? should i try to downgrade the radio to 3.35?
could it be a gps hardware fault? but it does work like 1 out of 50 times and locks really fast.

"Using GPS Software Without Having to Reset Every Time"

Let me start by saying my Mogul (Bell) has ALWAYS LOCKED (found satellites) with ALL of DCD's ROMS from the day he started creating the ROMs for the GPS. All the "GPS" radio's have worked and am lucky never to have a problem except one: Not Finding GPS/Satellites after the Mogul Sleeps or being able to get it working again without a soft/hard reset everytime!!!
I have been using only DCD's ROMS and currently have radio 3.35.04 and DCD 3.01 installed. I am using Garmin XT and GPS Tuner. I get the same results with every GPS software I have tried.
Here are brief details:
After hard/soft reset - if its within a few seconds and I catch it quickly, there are no problems, both the AGPS and the software are working fine.
After 2-? Minutes - if I let the unit go to sleep, and awake it via the Power button, the gps program is looking for satellites. Sometimes it finds them, most of the time not. It wont find them in ANY program, even GPS Viewer and/or any other navigation program.
After Many Minutes - not only are the satellites gone, but now the navigation software cannot find the AGPS with any program OR method.
Sometimes a soft start fixes it, sometimes only a hard start will do the trick.
I have tried as much of the "forced start" software that I could find, but to no avail.
I also changed the com port to 5 thinking that there maybe is a conflict with 4, (you have to make sure the com port setting in all of your GPS software is also changed unless the software does this automatically) but the SAME issues stated above occur.
I have loaded and reloaded probably 20 different configurations of my software even to the point where all I had loaded was the bare DCD rom (no options or unnecessary OEM's) and JUST my Navigation software. Same issues......
I hope I am not the only one and hope that the contributions to this thread will fix this issue.
Please.....Keep this thread focused on this issue only - Keeping the GPS alive!!! ( no Where did you get this or that program? How did you install it?)
keeping the gps alive will kill the battery.
yea, i have teh same issue as you. soft reset is the only way i get gps working.

Maybe a better way to phrase it would have been to make the GPS available without having to do a soft reset every time.
We don't want to keep GPS alive indefinately! We just want so if we accidentily press power button while navigation is happening, we not have to reset the phone.. because this is a little inconvenient. If I am driving down the road and I hit my power button, now I have to pull over and reset my Titan because otherwise I have no GPS navigation ability and that's not a good happening, you know? We just want so if navigation software is active, not kill GPS, then when shutdown GPS navigation software, shut down GPS gate properly so when want to relaunch GPS navigation software, not need to reboot Titan.
I'm sorry to post in a rather old post.
But I'm having the same problem with my Samsung i780.
When I already used my GPS after turning on my phone and put it back to sleep, it can't find a valid GPS signal when waking it up.
After a soft reset, the GPS signal is found very quickly.
Any fix for this?
yeah, the fix is GC's aGPS fix. I never have to soft reset my device to get a lock ever.
I don't use aGPS, just the internal GPS receiver.
Will it also fix the problem then?
>> edit:
It's not that the GPS doesn't work after accidentally pushing the power button. It's more like when I use the GPS the first time after turning the phone on, everything works fast and good. But when I close the Navigator software and turn it back on in -let's say- two hours, it doesn't get a signal from the GPS. I don't use aGPS.
I only use Google Maps and TomTom7. If I make sure the phone doesn't go to sleep while Google Maps is tracking GPS all is fine. However, if the phone goes to sleep while Google Maps is using the GPS it will not work again, in any program, until I soft reset. If I bring the phone out of sleep fast enough, it's fine. If the same happens with TomTom though it takes a few seconds to fix itself and then everything works just like it did before.
I'm not sure why it works fine with TomTom and not Google Maps though.
I found that if I use the GPS toggle program and leave it on. It finds the GPS signal after sleep mode. It is a small today screen plugin. I also have attached the latest version of Google maps. If i am using the GPS with Google maps it doesn't stop when the phone goes into sleep mode. See if this helps.
i use the same gps toggle program that tommvee suggested using and it works great. i wasn't originally having problems finding GPS satellites after waking from sleep mode, but was having to wait up to 5 minutes before garmin xt could find my location. after installing the gps toggle .cab, doing a soft reset, activating the gps toggle and letting it run in the background for a few minutes, both garmin xt, and googlemaps can now find me in about 30 seconds. i do believe however, that you'll have to reactivate the gps toggle after restarting the phone but it will stay running while your phone is in sleep/standby mode.

Is there anyway to activate the program without the today screen plugin?
I'm using the default Samsung Home plugin and it takes the whole screen...

I am also using aGPS but still have problems if I accidently hit the power button in Google Maps and forget to turn it back on. My power button is very sensitive so even brushing it as I set the phone down will put it to sleep. It doesn't click anymore like the other buttons do :/
As for the battery usage, I only use GPS in my car where I have the phone plugged in 90% of the time.

I think there's a link to the How To in the Titan wiki.
Any pointers on shutting down the gps gate? I could try a utility for doing the shutdown manually.

More GPS fun

I can never get my GPS reliably. I have tried various DCD roms and various Radio versions. Currently i am running DCD 3.1.2 and Radio 3.39.10
When i run my applications such as GPs viewer and Visual GPs i notice that the sattelites appear for a split second and then they go away for another 10 seconds. Almost as if i cannot maintain a solid connection to the Comport. I hard reset the phone and it worked perfect, but it seems that i need to hard reset it every time to get the GPS to work.
I tried soft reset
pull the battery our for 30 seconds and back in
turn location to 911 only, reset and turn back to location on. Still no work.
I am running the standard settings of Com4 4800 and let windows manage
Any ideas?
Sorry to hear that. What phone you using? What carrier?

Verizon GPS on 3.39.10 Radio

I've been messing with different radio's to see which gave me the best signal aswell as the best GPS results. The outcome has become very clear to me and I thought I would share to see if anyone else has these results.
When on 3.39.10 my gps will lock in less than 1 minutes with no adjustments needed to be made. The only extra step is the normal priming of the GPS which I do thru Astrolauncher. I have run other radio's which wouldn't connect even after 15 minutes so this is definetly going to be my radio of choice until something different is presented with the same or better results.
thx for the tip
everyone has different results, even with the same rom and radio. i was using dcd 3.0.4 and radio 3.35.05 for a while and it always worked well. then i did the GPS fix on 3.35.04 and got even better results. then i updated my radio to 3.42.30 with the GPS fix and now my GPS gate locks before my today screen can finish loading.
When I first flashed DCD 3.1.6 I used RADIO 3.42.30 and experienced very slow GPS locks. I recently downgraded to RADIO 3.39.10 and my GPS locks are down to 10-30 seconds (This is on VZW with the "GPS fix" applied).
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I may very well update my guide to tell users to use the 3.39 radio for better GPS locks.
P.S. Can someone post the link for the RUU (even if its the Sprint ROM, I can just steal it out of there), thanks.
Well I tried it and all I can say is WOW. I even tried it on a fresh ROM with no GPS hack for verizon and it locks the first time in about 60 seconds and after that even faster. I actually experienced a 10 second lock a minute ago. Thank a million for posting your results.
Here's my results....
COLD START
2.42.30 radio
Used HTC GPS Tool - Locked in 1.5 minutes
Google Maps - locked 20 seconds later
took 1.75 Minutes to achieve 5 sats
3.39 radio
GPS Tool - Locked in 10 seconds
Google maps locked 5 seconds later
Definately weird....
I'll assume that because I flashed a new radio, that I can consider it a cold boot lock on 3.39... However I didn't initialize the clear memory
I think you guys are using HTC GPS Tool wrong with 3.42.30.
When you use HTC GPS Tool to prime, and initiate with a cold start, you don't have to wait until they turn green to switch to Google Maps. As soon as you see 3+ red bars, open Google Maps and Use GPS. I get locks in under 10 seconds with 3.42.30 even on the coldest of starts.
I don't even use the gps tool just Astrolauncher for iGo and Google Maps.
Well to each his own. Personally I'd rather get the improved signal strength from 3.42.30 while maintaining fast GPS locks.

I think that is key for me, because I thought you had to wait for the bars to turn green before doing anything.
Do you leave the GPS tool open when you switch to Google Maps? Once I get the bars to go green I have been closing the app and going to my GPS software, does it work better to leave both open?
This is exactly what I do...
Open QuickGPS and download ephemeris data (only required every 7 days)
Close QuickGPS
Open GPS Tool
Com4, 4800 bps, Cold Start
Open
Nav Init
Switch to Satellite tab, wait for 3+ red
Leave GPS Tool open and open Google Maps
Use GPS
Once it locks, close GPS Tool
I get locks in under 10 seconds every time.

Kool...
I have been looking for something like this and I have been doing this ALL wrong. I sit there waiting for a green for minutes at a time. I am using tt7
So when I get the 3+ red then I will NOT hit the 'ok' to close the GPS tool but now hit the windows key to open tt7...cool
thx man...
Yeah again, this is only for cold starts too. No need to do this again 5 minutes after the last lock.

forgot to ask...looks you do not do a soft-rest? Also do you always go COLD even if you have used the gps once or twice earlier that day?
No need for soft resets.
It depends on how long it's been since I've used it. If it's been more than a couple hours, I cold start.

How many people do you think are waiting for a green lock in HTC thinking they are not locking?
This would be a great thing to make more visible GC, you may want to post it on your "fix" page. There would be many more believers in your fix if you do. I think that 3.39 is faster at getting an all green lock, but using this method 3.42 gets three faster from home. I will be testing this more. Thanks!
well until today I always waiting for the green but not anymore...may hardest lock time is in the morning so I will see then but by noon I can lock and continue to lock all day. I can lock up to 3am but when it comes to 8am-10a during rush hour I had no luck...but I will see in the morning. I am doing this from one location my home so my position is the same for all the successful connects...

Hi gc14,
I was also under the impression that waiting for the satellites to turn green meant a lock.
I just tried using your method and received a lock on 5 satellites in under 30 seconds. The only problem is that running HTC GPS Tool and Google Maps at the same time causes severe lag. Do you minimize HTC GPS tool and then launch your navigation software or just launch the navigation software?

[Q] [Q-Flyer] GPS completely not working after HC upgrade

I have upgraded my WIFI 16GB Flyer to HC using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
Now I have:
HBOOT 6.11.1111
RADIO 3822.10.08.07_M
I was nable to get GPS working on official ROM 3.55.1114.31, so I decided to try
flashing LeeDroid 4.3 and after that Cool3D Honey v4. Also with no result
I have tried using FasterFix app and next AGPS patch from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287941 (google no ssl version)
I've installed GPS Test app, go outside and have it on for 1 hour. Always 0 satelites in view, and all timers and clocks in this app also shows 00:00:00, only compass (heading) works.
What should I do to get my GPS back working? Radio version is bad, or what?
Typical HC behavior, I can only get my GPS to work in GB...it works some but drops all the time in HC...
its actually not typical behavior for it not to lock at all, I've tried just about every HC ROM and they all work with gPS, but it will lose lock and cycle at times. So it works fine for me for typical use like weather, Google Map etc. Won't work reliably for navigation since it loses lock at random times. So you see statements from people saying GPS doesn't work in HC. That's incorrect, it works, but it won't work in a continuous mode.
Try this, make sure you are connected to wifi. Download and install GPS status app from the market.
turn on GPS (hardware) and make sure you tick all the Google location options on in the settings.
Open the google map app and hits the my location button. wait and see if the locations set by GPS message shows, (about 15 seconds)
if it shows or now, after about 20 seconds open up the GPS status app and see if you have any satellites. If not, open the app menu / tools then hit the reset AGPS option, then the download AGPS.
Now watch the screen for satellite, within a couple of minutes it should lock.
During all this, make sure you keep the screen active. don't let the device go to screen off , sleep.
Nothing that you do will make the GPS keep a lock on a flyer running anything HC. I tried it all, absolutely nothing works. Patches, builds, etc..
You have to go back to GB if you want gps to work.
I had my flyer installed in my cars dash and needed HC as it worked alot better than GB in that setting.
For whatever reason my View that I bought for normal home use Keeps GPS lock and has zero gps issues running stock HC. So I was forced to swap the flyer and view. Hasn't dropped gps lock once using navigation when driving.

Intermittent GPS

Hello,
Last week I bought a Moto G8 Power. The thing is that when I use the GPS in the car, after a few seconds the signal is kind of lost (there is no "signal lost" sign but the speedometer goes from "30km/h" to "0"). After another few seconds, the signal is back and recalibrates the location.
This happens in a loop, don't know if the times are exactly the same, but the cycle is the same (get sign, lost sign for a few seconds, get sign again and in a short time loses again).
Any ideas before asking for customer service?
Edit: Tried the GPS apps from the PlayStore like GpsFix and GPS Toolbox but nothing happened. Also tried with Google Maps and Waze (in both happens the same).
I found out that if I turn the Mobile data off, the GPS works like charm (have to download the maps of course).
But when mobile data are active, the GPS connects and disconnects all the time.
