Our Cingular 3125 has seen its share of rough use. Our 2-year old got a hold of it recently and dropped it. The casing around the battery broke. Since the battery door would not stay on, the phone wouldn't boot. We sent in the phone (10 days left on the warranty at that time) and they replaced the casing and the phone now works.
However when on battery power, the battery indicator cycles between "charging" and "battery", just like you're plugging in the charger and pulling it out. This results in the external and internal displays turning on and off. It happens only when the phone tries to go into "sleep" mode. As in, you close the flip or with the phone open, you wait until the power saving kicks in.
Its been a couple months since we got the phone back (my wife switched to a different phone while the 3125 was being reparied), so the warranty is expired. I did flash the phone to WM6, but the phenomenon continues to happen. Any ideas?
failure
in this case it really seems like a mechanical failure - some shortcut most possibly.
Maybe someone here has good instructions on disassembly of the phone?

I have a Cingular 3125, working fine for weeks, happened that two days ago, I was charging the phone and transferring files to my computer via Bluetooth, nothing unusual, then it just got frozen, nothing responding, so I just took out the battery to manual reset the device and reinserted it, then tried to turn on the device, but it refuses to boot, no lights at all, also when I attach the phone charger, it doesnt show the usual orange led when charging, but I can feel that the phone gets warmer because the charger is attached and then after a while it gets a bit cooler, just like when it finishes charging, the usual behavior, but again, no lights at all trying to boot it or even attaching the charger, I've tried taking the battery off for hours and nothing also, and I wasnt overclocking the phone... would you say it just died? or maybe someone had same issues and solved it someway? thanks.
try this
OK, I don't remember where I read this, or the exact procedure, but give this a try.
remove the battery, press and hold the red call end key (power key) for 30-45 seconds. insert battery and do a hard reset, IE.. power on holding the 2 top soft keys while powering on the phone.
this method is supposed to clear any mother board issues and reset the phone. It has been a couple of years since I read the procedure so I am not sure if this is the correct way, if it does not work, try the same thing, only try taking the battery out, then put it back in and press and hold the power key for 30 - 45 seconds.
may or may not work, but can't hurt to try.
i had the same problem with startrek which i had bought from eBay
one more advice - try to hold record (notes) and camera buttons and insert an USB cable to your PC, it should enter to Bootloader mode
well, I have dissasembled the whole thing, I havent reached anything, even disconnected the backup battery, nothing, have checked battery with a multimeter and is full loaded... in short, someway the cell phone seems has just died, Erofich, to enter bootloader mode, the phone must turn on, it just doesnt want to start at all, no lights when connecting charger or USB cable... I'm sad because it was working fine with no problems for three months and more sad because it's the end for me to windows cellphones for a long time, I've invested a lot in this phone, accesories, unlocking, and even the same day it died also bought more memory and a neat skin cover and I'm not in mood to invest more in a cell phone so I'll use a spare crappy feature phone.
Thanks for your support.
one last effort
You could try one last thing, this has worked for me with a couple of startreks,
take the phone apart, and take the motherboard out, use a hair dryer to heat the motherboard, don't get crazy with it, but using the hair dryer on the high setting for about 30 to 45 seconds at about 3-5 inches, might revive the phone. (don't heat the battery, just the motherboard)
Put the phone back together while it is still hot (but not so hot that it will burn your fingers) and try to fire it up.
This has worker for me in 3 cases (phones that I bought off eBay that had the same symptoms as you have described)
good luck
big problem!!!!!!!!
I have been struggling to flash (again) the great pro V2 rom, but I always used my VMWare based XP windows version on my Vista laptop. Today I could use a genuine XP Laptop and I could make a connection and start the upgrade!
Sounds good? That's what I thought too, until the upgrade stopped at 70% (and I didn't touch anything), because of a connection error. I followed the text on my PC screen and I finally it started flashing again for a few seconds and then my startrek suddenly restarted, but it stops at the first splash screen! I tried to get my device back to bootloader mode (push 2 soft buttons and start), but no bootloader mode, only the 1st splash.
I solved the problem.
Hello,
Saturday I went out, my HD2 only had like 5% battery life. I used it till it went black. The day after I wanted to recharge my phone but when I plug the microusb in to the wall charger, no led lights come up. When I press the power nothing happens. Stays black, it's like a dead stone now. I did not flash the phone for the past 2 months, it's running android already a long time now.
This morning when I pull the battery out and put it back in and push the power button then a VERY short vibration comes out of the phone but then nothing anymore the screen and leds stay dark. If I try it a second time nothing happens. So I think the battery is 99.9% empty and I can't charge it anymore through the microUSB. The only thing I can think of what happened is saterday I took a bath and my phone was lying on the edge of the bath, it did not fell in the bath offcourse. But there was alot of humidity in the bathroom because of no ventilation and warm water. The phone was working perfectly after the bath and stayed working untill the battery went to 0% when I was going out. Is my microUSB port water damaged? The stickers inside the phone are still white. (luckily). Anyone has an idea how to fix it or what the problem could be?
Remove the battery.
Connect to the power supply.
After a couple of minutes, plug in the battery (while the phone is still connected to the mains supply).
Ok I tried it.
Took battery out. Connected to usb power cable.
Waited +- 5 minutes. Inserted battery -> nothing happens.
Won't turn on, no led lights.
BUT I noticed a strange thing.
If NOT connected to power cable : Take battery out, reinsert. Power on, -> some milliseconds of vibration.
If connected to power cable : Take battery out, reinsert. Power on, -> nothing, no vibration.
So if it is connected to power cable phone acts completely dead when I reinsert battery and push power button. But if it's not connected then when reinserting the battery and I push the power button then a very short vibration is felt.
Weird ... is there something shortcircuiting the phone when connected to powercable??
Ok,
I found someone on my work who has an HD2 like me. So I tried to put a 70% charged battery in my HD2. Guess what ... same result. A little vibration and it stops .
So now I know it is not the battery. It's the phone itself. I've put it now in a bowl of rice and hope next morning it will be magically revived. Maybe when I took a bath saturday there formed some micro water bubbles inside the phone and it still isn't gone by now? I am out of ideas. If this rice thing doesn't work I'll send it to HTC repair centre. They won't notice my hspl because they can't even turn on the phone with a charged battery. I'll guess they'll swap the mobo .. again. My previous repair was because my HD2 was in a constant Carkit mode (also a hardware issue). Sigh
Can you get into Bootloader Mode (Press and hold the Volume Down button, then tap the Power button)?
Nope, it acts like dead meat, even with a charged battery I could try from my friend his hd2. My battery worked in his phone. So it is my phone who is broken.
Think some hardware is busted ... Maybe some circuit is broken ? I just don't know . Now they must repair it for the second time. The first time I got the "phone is always in carkit modus" issue which is also hardware related. I hope they will not make a problem to give me yet another motherboard and yet another IMEI . That will be my 3rd IMEI on this phone then.
Hope they pick it up tomorrow .
K Update to this post.
I've received my HD2 back from HTC repair with a new motherboard / IMEI.
All is working now again .
I am afraid it can happen again . This is my 3th IMEI / mobo now on this phone after owning it a year and 2 months.
They now also didn't put a new "VOID" sticker on the screw
Also no "water detector" anymore.
It seems like they are saying to me, now if the phone breaks again, you have no warranty anymore. It's not my fault the mobo suddenly dies . I doubt it they just "forgot" to put new void stickers on.
Never take cell phone in the bathroom.. especially if its a touchscreen.. the steam from hot water gets accumulated inside the phone and ruins it. My friend damaged his 2 handsets already.. now he doesnt take it in the bathroom anymore

There are water dector labels inside the phone and if they forgot the VOID label then that is their problem. You have twice returned the phone and by replacing the motherboard they have admitted that the problem is theirs. So they already have a history of faulty phones from you and since it has been repaired by them, then they would need to show a record of placing a viod label back on the phone.

Well I also think that was the cause the phone died later that evening.
I think the phone went dead sometime that night because of the water inside the phone. Luckily the water detection labels where still white .
I never will let it inside the bathroom again .
As for the void sticker problem, I will contact them to ask why they didn't put on new stickers. If they don't respond I saw you can buy such stickers on ebay .
Well back again with new problem.
Have just had my phone back after it was repaired only a week ago by samsung; they repaired the software, replaced screen, battery and USB port. Now my unrooted phone, with only usual apps, has again failed on me. Was on the home screen, nothing else running, and it turned itself of. After a minute turned itself back on, held at the Logo, and then turned of again. Now it wont turn on what so ever. Its not got hot, its not got cold, its not been in a room with steam, its been sat in a decent zenus case, in a house with radiators etc on.
I seem rather unlucky with phones, my old Nokia 5800 went into repair 6 times, until I gave up and brought a £10 phone, that I'm having to use again now.
I have tried charging, despite the fact it was still 62% full when the phone went of. I don't do extreme sports with the thing, I barely use the phone, yet it still keeps breaking. Disappointed, because the phones pretty decent, but starting to feel like I don't do well with them.
Rant over.
Update: Just tried after 30 minutes to turn it on. It turned on for about 15 seconds, got into the unlock screen, unlocked, went to the menu screen and it turned itself of. I put the charger straight in, was charged up to 59% anyway, but thought maybe might be battery... But doesn't seem to be.
Wont turn on/Charge again. The phone is fine temp.
What you're describing could be a phone with a drained battery.
So check the battery with a voltmeter and check the charger. One (or both if you're really unlucky) of them could be busted.
Edit: You can check the charger by plugging your phone to your PC and charging it from there. If it works then it's the charger if it doesn't then check the battery.
Is all else fails return the phone to a service center.
Try this-
Take out the battery, then press and hold the ON button for 7-10 seconds (the longer the better). Reinsert the battery, then press ON button to start it. This is a soft reset, and wipes the temporary memory and empties all remaining power in the circuits. This helps on many phones and even laptops that won't start properly or show anything on screen.
If this does not work, try the next step. Again, do as above. But after inserting the battery, do not turn the phone on, but press and hold the ON button and the HOME button at the same time for 7-10 seconds. This is a hard reset, and works best if done after a soft reset. Just be sure the battery has at least some juice in it and isn't empty. If possible, try with another battery if this does not work.
I read earlier about a similar problem and it turned out to be a loose fitting battery. They put some foam or something at the bottom of the battery so that it would stay tight and retain contact.
You could probably test for this by removing the back cover and pushing the battery upwards while powering on.

Awesome Advice
Thanks MichaelAmrs
I have had some serious trouble with my GS2 not working and the latest has been it not turning on. I stuck my battery in the freezer and then did what you suggested and it worked like a charm. Instead of getting it to boot I tried putting it in Download mode and was able to install the Stock ROM on it and hopefully now it will last. But if nothing else at least it is turning on again.
Good luck.
So I have an odd issue here... I have a tmobile v10 that suddenly stopped working. Can't boot up or anything anymore. Here's some events (not in order) that have happened. I dropped my phone about 6 months ago and cracked the screen. Was fine up until about a month ago. I pulled it out of my pocket one day and it was off. Thought I had accidentally turned it off while in my pocket, so I went to power it back on, but nothing. It wouldn't boot up at all. Thought my battery died so I plugged it in, but again, nothing. for the next couple of days I was able to randomly get it to power up and boot up to the main home screen. After a few seconds it would freeze and then shut off on it's on, sometimes rebooting automatically, but never making it passed the "LG" splash screen. Any who, before all this the phone ran fine, no issues. I didn't update anything or add any odd ball apps. I got it to show some life when plugging into the computer via the lg usb cable with the battery removed, but as soon as I threw the battery back in and try to reboot, nothing.
The other odd thing I noticed is that when I threw a charged battery in it, it would kill the life of the battery (verified by placing a charged battery in the dead v10 and then after trying to boot, removing and placing back in my good v10 and checking battery life). It would always say it was either 0% or 5% when I put it back in the good v10. The batteries will still charge on the good v10 so I don't think the batteries are bad (one is a brand new LG brand battery).
I'm leaning towards the prongs being shot on the battery connector that's on the motherboard, rather than the charging port. Anyone ever have this issue or even hear of it? I did some searching online but realized I didn't even know what to look up to find what I was looking for.
Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Sorry for the story, just trying to give as much details as possible. I'm sure I forgot some stuff, but I'll edit/update as I remember them. Thanks.
A couple of days ago I replaced the battery on my Poco F1, because the phone is 2.5 years old and AccuBattery reckoned it was at 71% health. There were no issues with the phone, only that the battery life wasn’t as good as it once was (it was still running from 100% - 0% battery charge).
I bought the battery from AliExpress (this one to be precise) and the process of switching it out was easy and faultless, as far as I could tell.
The reassembled phone booted up fine and the new battery was at ~ 50% capacity. On the AliExpress listing it said to run the battery flat, which is what I did and it lasted quite a few hours - all good.
I then recharged the phone to full, as stated in the instructions. Regretfully, I interrupted the first recharge a couple of times by unplugging the phone for a few minutes each time. I'm telling you this for full disclosure - I'm unsure if this is likely to have caused the problem that I am now facing.
The fully recharged phone lasted a few hours and then shut itself down, whilst on ~ 70% battery I believe. This was the first time I realised there was a problem. The phone would not turn back on - holding down the power button and/or any combination of volume buttons did absolutely nothing. However, plugging the phone in caused the battery charging screen to appear instantly and subsequently, holding the power button whilst still plugged in would turn the phone on as normal. The phone would then boot up and battery percentage would be at ~70%, as it was when it shutdown (once booted, volume keys work fine). The phone would appear to charge as normal, but whenever I unplugged the phone, it would eventually shutdown on a high percentage after anything from a few seconds up to around an hour.
I thought I must have gotten a dodgy battery, so I took it out and put the original one back in. Now the old battery has all of the same symptoms as the new one – it won’t turn on unless plugged in and randomly shuts down after a period of time. If I manually turn the phone off when unplugged, it won’t turn back on unless it is plugged in. Also, a reboot just shuts it down.
I happened to have a spare charging port board, so I put that in to see if I’d fried something on there, but that hasn’t helped.
I’m tempted to reset the phone to stock (currently running Pixel Experience with TWRP installed) but am worried that it will brick the phone if it tries to reboot during the flashing process. Also, I believe that the fact I can’t force boot into fastboot with volume down/power buttons proves it is a hardware issue?
Any ideas are very welcome.
I think unless you have access to an EDL authorised account it's better to not flash MIUI at this stage. Risk of bricking the device...

Exactly the problem I am going through. It's all started today. I am currently running stock MIUI. It keeps boot looping if I do not plug the charger. But once it's plugged, it will load up normal.

I did flash stock MIUI in the end. Did not brick it, but also did not fix it. The phone now turns off immediately after being unplugged every time. I got myself a black Friday Poco X3 Pro so I'm now selling this phone for parts in UK

It could be a buggy PMIC issue similar to https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...android-11-0-vayu-bhima.4267263/post-85119331
Third-party batteries are mostly crap and probably the original battery is completely drained and the BMS isn't allowing it to be charged as a safety measure?
