I'm looking to get a bigger sd card for my xv6800. i want to get a 8gb card to load up on music. 2 questions (pardon me if they have already been discussed, please provide links):
1) will dcd's 3.1.2 rom support the sdhc 8gb cards w/o any upgrades?
2) anybody know what read/write speed our phone can put out? that class card can I most fully utilize?
-randy
The capacity that the phone can support has little to do with the rom and more to do with the capability's built into the phones hardware. The HTC 6800 is fully capable of using SDHC cards, regardless of rom.
As for the speed, get the fastest one you feel like, SD is a spec, and as long as you use an SD card on an SD spec device, it should be able to utilize it.
I can't see of many ways you would see a big difference though by buying a faster microSD, usually the faster cards are only used by cameras when pushing large photos into memory quickly. There is very little you will use with the phone that should need any major speed from an MicroSD.
So go to Meritline or something, get an 8GB card, and enjoy it.
Sort of right but,,,

The 6800 stock 2.0.09 ROM would see all of a 2 gig, but only 3.6 gig of the new 8gig until I updated to the DCD ROM. But my friend has the Samsung and when we did the same patches I used on my 6800 to make the 8gig work with the old ROM his totally failed to see the card at all, so I figure the slot hardware was not able to make use of the sdhd driver. So I think that you are right that the hardware must support it, and the 6800 does, but the ROM must also have the drivers for it, which DCD's do.

Newegg.com is another.
so the new 3.x.x dcd roms will see a full microSDHC 8GB ?
if so, that's great news. (FAT32 i assume).
I've been sticking around with my 1GB, but if this is true, I'll have to get one

Here is your answer from HTC Europe at the link below, it is a thumbs up!

Brilliant - thanks for the info. Soon I can have my maps of UK + France AND my music
But it's sure that will work?
From samewhere, I've read that base for 4gb is different from 2 gbm should be just a little bit more big.

They have put the wrong card type on their site but the info still stands, ring the helpline and they will confirm it.
Don't be excited by HTC FAQ! The answers are common for all the models. I bet that answer was written way before TyTN out, or even before SD 2.0 specs.
Did you ever see a TyTN with WM2003SE? So why don't you ask yourself why it is mentioned in the answer for TyTN then...

If it's not a SHDC card it should work... And I do believ it's quite unlikely we will see soon SDHC micro SD cards or phones (They are more targeted at cameras)
So all in all I think it will work. Anyway given the price I'll buy one just to try
2+GB cards
Hi I have asked the HTC support and here is their answer:
Hi,
I would like to know the maximum card size it will handle. I have found
this information on the HTC website:
*************
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=29
Support: HTC TyTN
What is the maximum SD card size compatible with my device?
For Win CE 2003 =>General for SDIO is 1GB.
For WM 5.0 => SD Card is 4GB and Mini-SD is 12GB
****************
But is it a strange answer, most probably not written about this device.
The TyTN does not have Mini-SD but micro-SD AND it never had WinCE 2003.
So what is the maximum card capacity it can handle? Thanks.
Another (quick) question is if there is a difference between TyTN and Hermes. Aren't they the same?
Thanks for your answers.

Dear Customer,
I will attempt to answer each of your questions in turn:
Memory Card Capacity
There is a typo on our website which lists the maximum storage card size as 12gb. This is incorrect. The maximum memory our devices can hold is 2gb. The devices do not support the SDHC formatting measure, and as such, larger cards are not compatible.
TyTN vs. Hermes
These devices are identical. The Hermes is the pre-release name for the TyTN. There are no differences between the two.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html

I hope it will help others, too.
But yet there are guys using 4Gb mini cards in their Trinitys, I believe it was...
Once again proving that the help from the manufacturer is worthless.
Not for nothing, but I went through this with quite a few Motorola phones... and each time they told me the newer, higher capacity card wouldn't work. And, in all but one instance were they right.
I mean, if the 4Gb card hasn't even been released, how would they know whether or not it works? More likely that should say "The maximum memory we have tested our devices to hold is 2Gb"
Anyone know if this is a good card?
Does anyone know how much extra it is to ship to Canada?
EDIT: I just called, and shipping is going to be about $30 US...what a deal breaker...Damn it. It's because they use UPS and they charge like $20+ brokerage fee.
I ordered one.
If it actually ships... I'll post up my results when I get it (I've had 2 backorders for teh 4Gb micro card fall through up till now).
Specification of SD cards allows max 2GB(doesnt matter if SD, miniSD, microSD), but fortunately dont know how it can somehow fake fs and os to access 4GB - maybe thru operating system i really dont know but it works. Best for answer to this Quest. could be mammaich igues. At least I hope it will be SD not SDHC. but let us know
I've got a 4Gb SD card I bought about a year ago... says nothing about the "HC" on the card or in the literature, and it worked fine with the devices I needed it to work with... devices whose manufacturers told me it wouldn't work with.
The way I look at it, if it doesn't work in the Hermes, either it will eventually, or the next phone I get it'll work in.
wait and see
I think it all comes down to just waiting until someone sticks one in the Hermes.
And if it doesn't work... maybe there be a hack to make it work.
what I want to see if this doesn't work is for them to come out with a normal (non SHDC) format 4gb (or larger) card.
4gb ... hell I want 12gb

That is true. However, a proper test would be to actually transfer 4gb to the card. Then back and forth to the pc.

Yes I've seen it in the past too, pluggin a larger then specified memory card into devices and it sees the ram space, just can not access it.
Thats what updated roms and patches are for ... and I think this is the right site for this ... just gotta wait and see.
It feels like a year since I've seen 4gb flashmem has been advertised ... and ETA on these?
So, can anyone confirm or deny these work?
Ok, so from my research, the 8GB Micro SD is not yet widely available or even on the shelves (correct me if I wrong). But, according to the various sites I've looked at these size cards are well on there way to being released.
I know the new standard of SDHC SD card are available in 8GB and possibly above, but I have now got a Hermes, so wanted to try going higher in Micro SD. Presently I use both a 2GB and a 4GB Micro SD, depending on what I'm needing to store.
Size wise 4GB it great as options for storage are vast.
But I wanted to see it there was any further news as to the new 8GB or higher that I'd read somewhere?
Having looked on line I could only find the following:
6GB Micro SD
==========
Pre-ordering only?
1: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/6GB/Micro/SDHC/Card
= SanDisk 6GB Micro SDHC Card £69.99
8GB Micro SD
==========
Pre-ordering only?
2: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/8GB/Micro/SDHC/Cardhttp://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/6GB/Micro/SDHC/Card
= SanDisk 8GB Micro SDHC Card £99.99
Since upgrading the Hermes ROM on my phone to WM6 which was purely to allow it to use the 4GB Micro SD I had bought (I swear by SanDisk as have NEVER had a problem with them in over 5 years of assorted SD cards)
Am going to keep looking over the next few weeks and would be interested in any feedback if any others have found any news about higher capacity versions.
I have no idea if WM6 will be able to read higher than 4GB but my guess would be a resounding YES! on the grounds of what I have a feeling is WM6 full? SDHC support. whereas WM5 on the Orange version of the Hermes 'SPV M3100' had only partial support and can only recognize 2GB sized Cards.

PS: if this post is in the wrong place or out of date can a mod sort it out and remove or move it. Many thanks. Just wanted to share my interest and findings on these Micro beasties thats all.
You accidentally posted the 6GB page, if you change the "6" to "8" in the URL you'll get what you meant for the second post.
Wow thanks for those links can't wait to get my hands on 8GB of freakin memory! I'm very impressed with MicroSDHC and am so glad the Hermes can take the always (albeit gradual) increasing card capacities, without new hardware needed.
Take that, iPhone! (don't worry, i love you too)

The six (6) GB link was intentional bud. I have researched "above and beyond" the 4GB size. Happened to find the 6GB link on same site so added it as I didn't know if like myself others were also unaware of this specification.
Cheers anyway.
You missed his point, your 8gig link is incorrect, it links to the 6gig ad.
Wow, 8G! Wish I had known that before splashing out on an 8G Zen MP3 player.
Thanks for the spot!

When a representative from Orange looked into this on my behalf, he also was told me that HTC was only recommending that the Hermes be used with 2GB Micro SD cards, as that was the limit they (HTC) would guarantee.
When I first tested cards out prior to a firmware update to WM6, the above was indeed true.
However, my Hermes now runs WM6 and uses a 4GB SDHC Micro SD Card on a daily basis without ever having a problem.
I have no idea if this will be true of higher spec cards such as the 6GB or the 8GB or even anything higher, but I feel confident that it will. But that is just my opinion as until tried and tested its down to guesswork whether or not other card sizes will be recognized.
PS: you asked what is the difference between micro SDHD and micro SDHC?
The answer is that I have NEVER heard of Micro SDHD. To me that is a High Definition tag and not one that refers to any card type.
I've only ever known SDHC.
Even Google comes back with: "Did you mean SDHC" Maybe others know of this type of card?

You could walk into a verizon store anytime and pick up a card, if you wanted. Other people have been able to order 4gb cards-- you could, also. READ!!!
Transcend 4GB SD with Exec loses data randomly --please help.
Hello there,
I read you people are using 4GB SD without any problems, you might solve my problem.
I am using one on my Exec with WM6,(ROM 2.02.02,Radio 1.15, Protocol 42.51.P8, no ext rom) and facing a weird problem. The card loses the data for no apparent reason. The folder viz. My document has just been emptied and I lost my all ebooks--150 MB.
The file explorer shows the card contains 776 Mb data while the 'Resco explorer' shows 1007 Mb,in setting-memory-storage card it shows 1007 Mb,but it actually has only 776 Mb data, so I have lost 150 Mb data permanently and 300 Mb storage space on card!
This is the THIRD time it has happened and on previous occasions I had the card replaced.I am fed up with this problem,is it the card itself or the Exec or the WM6 or the ROM which is causing this problem?
Is there any way to retrieve the data and the memory lost from the card, for I think it is there and it just hidden somewhere...I hope.
I am not a techie,(medical doctor--using Exec more as a PDA than a communicator)hence the lengthy description ,thanks in advance, sorry for the intrusion.
bye.
sorry for the hastles your having
I wish I could help you further but apart from what I have read relating to the Hermes I can't.
I would hazard a guess and say that it sounds more like the Operating System / ROM which perhaps is not handling the card properly.
Best if you put up a new post on the main board and ask for help.
I hope you get it sorted as I know from my own problems similar to your missing card data how really annoying this problem is. I do know that I have had two SD card made by transcend. I used them for 6 months without a hitch. I put movies and files on them both for University and work use and used them in my previous phone which was an English version of the Prophet (Orange SPV M600)
Point is that in my own experience, Transcend are indeed a reliable brand or storage card. So it doesn't sound like a card problem in my opinion. Perhaps you may new to look at updating the ROM? I have no knowledge of your phone model "Exec" so can't help. But as I said best if you ask for help on the board. Maybe on various boards if you've had no luck already. Someone may have previously owned an Exec and might be able to shed some light on this problem.
Kalya-- You need to post your problem on the Universal forums, not the Hermes. There, hopefully, you will get the help you need. Different models react differently to various things. May you find your solutions...

Can you guys please advice will there is any difference in performance, response time and speed between 4GB microSDhc and 8GB microSDhc.

I know that both works with Jade, but how about the response time? I'm surely looking for bigger space, but not at the cost of speed and response time.

I've been using 8GB since the beginning. When I compare the performance of my jade with a friend's who is using the "gift" micro SD card, which I presume is 1GB, I don't see a difference in speed or response time. With 8GB, you can afford to be lazy and not clean up the storage card for a while!

I'm planning to have my most of the programs/appilcations on the storage card, so was wondering about the response time.
On HTC site, they said they have tested 8GB, but didn't mention about the performance.
http://www.htc.com/in/faqs.aspx?p_id...0&id=85794&f=t
But, the salesman at the store said 8GB will make ur device slow, which I didn't want for more space. He was advicing for 4GB.
Have you installed programs/applications on the Storage card?
And is the reponse of those program on SD are marginally slower as compare to similiar application on device memory?
Even I'm looking to bigger space, it helps a lazy person like me to clean the storage after long long time, but at the cost of response time and stability.
All of my third party software are installed on the storage card. When I open most of them, the time taken is about the same as the default programs, give or take a second for the others. You shouldn't listen to sales people. I was told there were problems with 4GB SD.

I'm not sure if it supports 16gb but I may buy one of those if it's available and if its compatible, which I have no idea lol
I'm using a cheapest 16 GB and don't see any deference at all comparing to 1GB card.
Correct me if i wrong, but i think you won't be able to notice the performance decrease unless you using a high-res/fast Digital camera?
Card touch 3g
Touch 3g with ROM 6.5, have been support 32GB microSD..!
http://www.kingmax.com/product_info.asp?fid=151&mid=185&cid=187&id=2104
Yes, I'm aware that the Fascinate only "officially" supports up to 32GB cards, but is it possible that that was only stated because 64GB cards weren't available yet? If not, would a software update be able to make this work or a smart dev here on XDA? I really hate being limited to 32GB cards. When this comes out, I would love to use it but I'd hate to pay for something that doesn't work.
Given that I can't find any other microSDXC cards out there, and the one you linked to is showing that it's a Class 10 card, I'm going to say that it's not a legit product, even though it is a real company. Will it be supported, only time will tell, but I'd wait until microSDXC cards are readily available.
It's legit. A quick Google search would've told you that.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/kingmax-flaunts-worlds-first-64gb-microsd-card/
Class 10 MicroSDXC is definitely legit. There are a few cards out there.
Without being an expert on the phone's internals, I'd give it a qualified "no". Reason being that SDXC as a standard was in its infancy when the phone was released, and still a dream when the phone was initially designed (It takes about 6-9 months from prototype to release for these devices). To include the spec for SDXC in the Winter of 09-10 would have been foolhardy at best.
I would say hold off. Like imnuts said it may be a legit product. But being so new on the market why waste the money. As well I would wait until more major companies are making them so you know you have the reliability behind it, like Sandisk.
there is another post in the mytouch 3g forums talking about this as well.

It's not about reliability. It's the fact that the Fascinate most likely doesn't have the capability to read XC cards. They use a larger address table, and unless the device accounts for it, that can't be read by the phone.
If you plan to flash an EC09 ROM, like TSM's upcoming ROM, four 16GB cards beats one 64GB, even though they'd cost more (we still don't know why EC09 borks some sd cards, and according to TSM, their next ROM will also carry that risk, since it's based on EC09).
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
Resurecting this thread
any news on this? my Zune is about to kick the bucket and i'd like to use my old GSI as my dedicated PMP to save battery on my GNex. but coming from an 80GB Zune, 32GB isn't going to cut it. 64GB would obviously be less but i could work with it. what I don't want to do is buy one and have it not work. so i was wondering if anyone has tried this already or could try it if they happen to have both lying around or maybe suggest a ROM or something that could enable support, etc, etc. i know it's probably a long shot but thanks in advance for any help.
whoever said if your gonna flash an ec09 rom get a better sdcard...listen to him. Save yourself some trouble and get a class 10 card if your into flashing especially if you like to flash new stuff alot.
I'm currently using a Sandisk 64GB Class 10 (UHS-1) card without issues in my Fascinate. Running AOKP Jelly Bean Milestone 1. No idea if it works on stock.
The only thing that you need to do to get it to accept the card is to format it to FAT32. exFAT will not work. In windows you will have to use a third-party partition program since windows won't allow you to format the card with FAT32.
I've filled the card to 45GB with no problems so far. If I run into any issues later I'll make sure to come back and let you all know.
Has anyone else had this problem besides me? I've been using the DFT roms and each time I flash to a newer one I lose some space. Right now my 8gb Mozart is left with 5.87 gb of Free Space and 804 mb of reserved space. This is after a fresh flash.
yes i've experienced the same, at the moment im on DFT v1.
Thinking of going back to OEM rom
Damn... Is there any way to get more space?
@gracemillian:
Yes, for my part, my mozart has 32gb of storage . There's a tutorial which explain how to change the microsd card inside the phone but it's quite risky!!
Thanks, I will try that. Now I just need a cheap 32 gb microSD Card, lol.
it's not risky! you just need steady hands and patience. And a card that will work.
Try SanDisk Class 4 32 GB cards. They seem to work. (look for the code SDSDQ-032G-B35 on the back of the card cover)
There's a discussion about cards on xda somewhere.
Don't just blindly get higher class cards thinking they'll work faster. They won't. In fact, choosing the right card is the most risky part of this whole exercise. And definitely don't get the cheapest card. The way wp7 maps storage, you'll end up with super slow everything.
best of luck!
Hmmm, is class 4 recommended? I've read the thread about the 'surgery' as well. I believe class 4 equates to 4mb read/write (CMIIW), will performance be affected? :/
