So i decided i wanted the new radio 3.39.10 so i flashed the leaked sprint rom. Didn't have enough time so I just kept it on my phone for a few days. One thing i noticed with this rom was everything was QUICK. Even icontact was smooth with no lagging or jittery scrolling. I also noticed memory consumption over a days time was very minimal. I would not be under 20mb free after an entire day.
That said, I've always liked dcd's roms and they always seemed faster than sprint roms. So i decided to flash to his newest 3.1.6. At first boot I had 25mb free compared to 22mb free with sprints. That was a plus, but i also noticed with the same applications installed on both that icontact was not smooth on scrolling anymore and my memory usage throughout the day would drop under 20mb easily.
Is it just me or does it seem like the sprint 3.49 rom has graphics acceleration and better memory management?
It's not just you..
everything runs faster on 3.49. Apps respond quicker and fewer hang ups and lock ups as well...

For Test Not For Sale
I installed the leaked Sprint ROM, and I did not have time to test it because I like DCD ROMS, so I tried 3.1.6, but it was not a good experience for me. I kept loosing and gaining signals, at some points it will not get the signal at all.
Till the day it just did not, and all my contacts were erased and my soft keys stopped working. So I reverted back to 3.04 which for me has been the most stable for me, with NO PROBLEM.
But please I have a problem, ever since I tried that Leaked Rom, and Flashed back to DCD 3.0.4, I get the message "FOR TEST NOT FOR SALE" at boot up. How do I get this message off please. I hate seeing that. I have flashed 3 times and it is still there

I'll chime in here too
The newest Sprint rom does seem much faster, I'm not sure if there is a pool size diff or what, but they take about the same ammount of time to boot up, and give or take a meg or two, about the same free mem.. The Sprint rom has a bunch of ugly sprint crap and themes(easily changed) but there is something to be said with having a nice new clean rom. Unfortunatly, I wouldn't use the 3.1.6, it seems to have too many issues with cell sig.... I was happiest on a rom called "________ Sexier Rom" But it had issues w/ AS. So right now, I'm sitting with the Sprint rom again.
You guys never cease to amaze me...
I don't know what probs you guys are having with 3.1.6. but everything works fine for me that sprint rom don't have no pizzaz!
gc14.....add some insight to this if you do not think its true. I'm going by actual usage though and have yet to have a rom as fast as the new sprint one.

This thread should be closed because everything said in it is moot. Since 3.1.1, these roms have been based off 3.49 and cleaned. Any differences are simply placebo.
well someone's acting a bit smug, aren't they.
gc14, many things go into DCD building a custom rom, often much more than just "cleaning up" a leaked rom. He's been in there in the XIP tinkering about which can cause night and day differences as far as performance and free memory from the "stock" leaked Sprint rom.
I'm not agreeing with anyone here (I haven't compared the two roms, right now testing some of no2chem's direct draw from the diamond support), however I felt the need to point out that your comments are neither helpful nor properly informed.
Unless you've conducted a test and posted your own thread about it that we don't know about, I'd write off your comments as mere speculation.
Someone asked for my insight...I gave it to them, period.
I know exactly what goes into building a custom rom. I didn't feel the need to go into all of it in this thread. As far as "tinkering in the XIP" goes, well, we'll just leave it at that.
Don't ask for me to post what I think, then get all bent out of shape when I post the truth. I won't say anything else about it, though trust me, my "speculation" isn't coming from nowhere and is very well informed.

Actually, you were technically asked to explain your cryptic condescending one liners.
You started with "You never cease to amaze me" and "This thread should be closed", without any explanation as if this was the memory leak, bluetooth, or some other bug that already have a million threads dedicated to it.
These are legitimate concerns that whether are placebo or not, deserve to be discussed and analyzed if people are noticing it.

Really? Because if you're saying that nothing has changed from 3.1.1, I really don't think you do. Do you even know what the XIP is, or what changing components into modules means?
I haven't posted in XDA much lately, so I'll give you the benefit of thinking I'm a n00b. Since it appears we haven't met, I'll assume you also didn't know that dcd and I go back to before he was releasing roms, and we've kept in touch behind the scenes, often part of a group that gets to test and debug before he releases new ones. Dcd has told me what he's done to these releases, and I can honestly say that he's changed it enough to barely resemble the leaked rom, far less match its performance verbatim.
Your comments are not only baseless, but juvenile.
I recommend that you control your sarcastic tone and don't post unless it is somehow constructive to the thread. Otherwise, you're going to piss off some people who won't want to help you when the time comes.
As far as whether or not this is true (dcd's being slower than leaked "stock"), I don't know since I haven't performed any tests. It is possible that something he's tweaked to free up memory has effected performance elsewhere in the rom (similar things have happened in earlier roms). The drivers should be similar, however, so its most likely not an acceleration issue.

there could be a slight difference due to cache sizes. people wanted more free ram, so i reduced cache. this reduces speed (but i didnt think it was noticable personally)
i did benchmark the 3.35 oemxipkernel vs 3.49 and found that 3.35 was actually a tiny bit faster, so i'm still using it.

Yeah, that was the first question you asked me during testing, whether or not speed was reduced due to the cache changes. I didn't notice any difference either.

Donate, it is well worth it. Even if its only a small amount, it helps him out alot. and 3pre1 is the latest release. it is a very very stripped down version of wm but it works wonderfully. I can actually do stuff on my mogul now. Biggest noticable loss is no more camera, but he is working on that. IMO, best rom out there right now. Hands down. worth any penny in donations. I plan on donating more when i have the money to

its an impressive beta release but no nuetools *sniffs*
just installed this. the screen switch is REALLY quick. my jawbone works nicely as well.

I have Mogul/2.47/3.42.50 & 2.04_003 w/ 60711
I donated, downloaded, and flashed. It's got a lot of memory available, but it's still buggy.
I went back to dcd 3.2.6, which also has good memory and is much less buggy with a working camera.

What is buggy? I have mine loaded up with apps and have no issues at all...I had a scrolling issue where it kept scrolling on its own once....that was I first installed everything which was much earlier in the day.....been running 8-10 hours with no more issues at all.....
I flashed preview 1 last night, pulled out battery, put it back in, loaded my apps, and it ran like sh*t all day today. Great memory but very slow, buggy, half of my programs didn't work, and the battery life was terrible.
Since everyone else seemed to be having a grand time with it, I figured it was my error, and of course it was.
All it took was another hard reset, reinstall, now it runs like a charm
I've always heard people talk about these complex post-flashing rituals, but I figured it wasn't necessary. Well i guess it is a good idea to pull the battery, AND hard reset after a flash after all.

The on-screen keyboard is buggy, you can't see the bottom row of characters.
I think enlarge start menu caused some problems with weirdness in the start menu.
I'm not a fan of the stock dialer, and when I tried to cab install the vogue dialer, the icon for call history was transparent to the today screen.
It seemed to run slower than dcd's rom after I added all my usual programs, even though I had more ram available.
I did not build from the kitchen, just added cabs to the pre-build, so maybe a kitchen build would be more stable. It could also be some non-compatable program that added overall bugginess.
Obviously no camera is kind of a bummer, even though i don't really use the camera all that much anyways.
Overall, I'd say it's a big step forward, and is groundbreaking in some ways. However, I still feel that today, dcd 3.2.6 is overall a more solid rom.
Sprint Users Only? Not really
Per No2Chem, the flash-ready rom is for Sprint. But the kitchen allows you to choose any carrier. I built mine from the kitchen. It took a little time to figure out how to use the kitchen and I can explain if someone needs helps.
Adjust OOM...?
Does anyone know what the 2 "Adjust OOM" options do in the nueROM3 kitchen?
I tried to find answers before posting but was unsuccessful. I just figured since the kitchen and rom itself were so stripped down, that No2Chem would not have made it a point to include them if they were useless, so yesterday I just checked them both and my phone seems fine so far...
Also - I tried posting this question on http://www.nuerom.com but when I hit "save comment" it just sits there and does not actually submit my post. Maybe I'm not signed there? is the login different than the donator login?

It is a pre-release but I am sure it will all be working fine when the final build is done....but mine seems to be running fine really....
I am running my setup with WAD and WA3 as startup, usually always a slow go on my titan. I boot up with 27+mb of memory. I set my pagepool at 10 when i made the rom and am very happy. pre0 was a deal breaker for me cause he didn't have working bluetooth. But now that its in the rom again, i couldn't be happier.

It has to do with the "Out Of Memory" in windows mobile. (see here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms911907.aspx) Changing that basically adjust the way WinMo handles OOM's. By lowering the threshold, WinMo doesn't close down apps as eagerly as normal.
-edit-
I also must add that having the extra RAM makes this phone an entirely different beast for me. iGO8 and Opera Mobile 9.5 caused some issues before due to how RAM hungry they are. Now, they are not a problem. But not having the camera is kind of a bummer, and the keyboard is horrible . But I will continue testing because this has MAJOR potential

I would love to try it - please do explain or pm me!
Hi all,
I am a techy at a large secondary school in the UK. In my wisdom I organised the rollout of 7 XDA Serra devices (O2 branded Raphael) to members of senior staff early this year. Now.... I have had no end of moaning about the appalling ROM O2 supplied, I have changed the radio version and disabled 3G to get 3 days+ from battery, where it was previously 1 day max, added slide-to-unlock and slide to answer.
However the handsets are still frankly rubbish. Crashing and freezing, especially when you try to use them as - god forbid - a phone.
I have two choices -
either find a really good stable and useable ROM (which I hope you can help with!) -Getting them all in for upgrade is the highest level of tedium, so if this is going to happen its going to be a one-shot thing. Gotta get it right first time. These people are middle-aged school workers so dont care about the bling, its gotta be easy to use.
or (the hard way) say they are "unfit for purpose" and try and send them back to O2 for something else.As much as I love fighting the big boys, I really cant be bothered. If they are going to be swapped theres only one handset the senior team would accept. iPhone. Yuk. (IMHO).
So - do you think I'm onto a loser to begin with? is this handset just a dog? It was so hyped at launch I didnt think I could go wrong.
or is it just the ROM? If just the ROM then what's the best ROM around that will tick all the right boxes?
In the meantime I'm off to play with my new HD2....
Thanks in advance.
if you want a simple rom, with smooth operation and good features, try TAEL standard edition. I can vouch for it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561158
o2 serra
The bad news....The rom supplied with the Serra is a dog (as you have probably learnt). Has problems 'sleeping' at night, is graphically horrible & freezes whenever challenged!
The good news... The device is a winner, all problems are software related, you have some re flashing to do & there are plenty to advise on simple stable rom's better than me.
Clearly with multiple devices & reflashing, you need to be aware of voiding your warranty. Dropped mine four foot onto slate floor & the screen started acting badly.... A freezer might come in handy.....Enjoying NRGZ Rom on a replaced device
Yeah I had figured the Serra ROM is a dog. Thanks for confirming that to me tho!
Your suggestion the hardware is a winner has given me some hope, so thanks.
I will test out the TAEL ROM and see how it fares.
In fact I think I was at one point using the TAEL ROM myself. (I couldnt stand the O2 ROM more than about a week)
If it passes my in-house testing (giving it to my boss for a bit - he's impartial) then I may try the rollout. See if I can fend off the iPhone wanters and their pitchforks.
Any other suggestions for ROMS welcome of course.......

iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Palm Pre! even!...
Usually, only the win32 centric IT type like the WinMo. You should have titled your post "Best device for simple folks"
Who's paying for that Leo?
Your prob right, but I got these at the start of this year, when the iPhone (IIRC) only just got exchange sync, and the pre was a distant dream. Plus half of the staff already had Windows PDA's. So I was thinking it would soften the learning curve.
You know what its like now - people act like children over bloody iPhones. I'm not an Apple hater but its horses for courses, iPhones and Macs fine as a choice for home users but not a business tool. Dont get me started on the iPod touch being described by apple as a "handheld learning device" to flog it to education! grrrrr.
And the Leo? I fought for two of them in place of two serras that developed faults cos there was no equivalent replacement.
Hmm, if you ask me, the best ROM that just works is EnergyROM (the most current one is Phoenix 2). From my experience, EnergyROM is very fast, very stable, and tends to be streamlined. In my opinion, this is probably the best ROM for simplicity.
Mind you, I'm not knocking Tael ROM. I tried the version with Sense 2.5 recently and I'm in love. It is shockingly fast and stable; much more so than any other ROMs with Sense 2.5 that I tried.
Simple ROM
If i were you id use Tael's rom... i used Energy ROM for about 7-8 months because it was eye candy and had a lot of apps i needed... its the best looking and most loaded ROM there is in this forum... but i made the switch because the battery didn last very long and i started gettin a lot of bugs after like a month of use... don know how it happened... Energy ROM is more for personal use and for showing off... (Dont get me wrong... i appreciate all the work NRGZ does and all the time he puts into his wonderful ROM)
I switched to Tael's ROM about like a month ago and it is the most stable ROM there is... during this whole month i didn have one problem with it. the ROM has only the most basic and useful applications... It also gives me a battery life of about 3 days on normal texting, bluetooth for like 5-6 hrs a day, phone usage of about 2 hrs of talk everyday and 3G on at all times! if i probably turn of the 3G, auto updates of some program, and stop using bluetooth... i would get atleast 4 days out of it! If u want a reliable ROM with almost all the functions of the phone, Tael's ROM is the best!
OK, so what about the best simple ROM for tilt, or both tilt and fuze?
I just picked up a Tilt and Fuze and would greatly appreciate advice as which best "simple" (=stable, easy install) ROM would be for each, please? And ideally, if there is a ROM which would cover both? (I'm on t-mo)
many thanks

Fuze, unlocked to T-mo

Er, EnergyROM is the most loaded ROM? I think you're mistaken. That would probably be Chrome ROM (which even the author calls 'the Cadillac' of ROMs).
Your claims about battery life confuses me even more. I put my Fuze (with EnergyROM at the time) through a stress test and it lasted roughly 6-8 hours with constant Youtube, video playback, and 3G radio. I have not done the same for Tael ROM, but judging from usage, it would lastly roughly the same amount.
I'm not saying you were lying about your experience regarding EnergyROM, but I just wanted to put in that ER is definitely not as bad as you described.
i'm liking taels rom right now, it seems to be faster than the energy rom as i'm getting less hang ups while scrolling etc. battery lif is about two days with tael and about the same with energy, sending/receiving 300 txts a day and maybe a couple of phone calls...

I'd recommend that you stay away from any roms using the new office 2010. It's beta, and expires in 5-6 months. Since the phones aren't going to be updated frequently (hopefully never, I'm sure), you don't want any part of time-bombs. You might consider just flashing a stock HTC rom.

I agree. Just grab this ROM: http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=140&cat=2&dl_id=501 and you won't regret - it's bug-free, stable, fast enough.
Alternately, you can try shep's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497699, but not the new version, because it's buggy. I recommend the "old" ROM (10. august), I used it for a month without problems, then I reverted to HTC latest primarily because I don't like 6.5 Start Menu.

I'm a Chrome ROM lover, they are as loaded as NRGZ ROM.
Performance they both have their pros and cons.
For the ROM your looking i would suggest nothing but Timolol's ROM.
They are so fast and So basic.
As basic as stock with no extra apps.
They don't have a manila version hece only the simple titanium to use.
They are on a old build which is very stable.
Though i would never use such a bland ROm but for the people for whom you are going to Flash the ROM this is the Best ROM.
Give it a try.
It is really Light !
Timolol's ROM
Even the chef calls it "Stock like ROM"
Hi everyone.
There was a worrying moment where I thought we were going all emotional!
Mind you its the varied opinions that make this place so interesting.
I'm really grateful to all of you for your effort in replying.
I think the bottom line is I need a ROM for "someone who has never been on XDA-Dev".
I'm going to try Tael's latest ROM as I've personally found it solid enough in the past, and the feeling I'm getting from you is that it is pretty well liked.
I do however like the idea of a stock ROM. What would they be missing out on by using the stock HTC ROM? Anything a normal person would miss?
Cheers

Nothing really important. On stock ROM there is an older Manila build, that's maybe the most important thing, also cooked ROMs are often loaded with apps. But, stock HTC ROM has one big advantage over all cooked ROMs - absolutely everything is working, and that's not the case with cooked ROMs - there's always something wrong, missing from ROM etc. For example, on most cooked ROMs (OS 6.5) you will find that video call doesn't work, if it works there are some other bugs with the dialer, such as non-working USSD codes or inability to answer calls (not chef's mistake, just dialers ported from other devices do not work 100%). Then there are some other problems - on one ROM MMS ain't working, on the other battery is pathetic, or the phone is very slow and buggy due to the use of Sense (Manila) 2.5 etc. You get the point - if you choose cooked ROM, there will always be something that isn't working, question is - do you (your workers) need those non-working functions.

Did you try the timolol's ROM.
Everything is working on that !
You must give it a try.
Which ROM should meet these requirements:
1. Will get a GPS fix quickly every time.
2. Good battery life.
3. Fast 4G LTE.
4. Market works fully.
5. Relatively bug free.
6. Still supported by developer.
7. Has decent install instructions - I have not installed a ROM on the Thunderbolt yet, and compared to my OGD, it seems more complex (e.g., flash a radio separately).
8. As little Sense as possible. (None would be ideal.)
9. USB tethering is rock solid reliable.
10. Gingerbread 2.3.4 (so Google Talk video works)
I initially wanted an AOSP ROM, but it seems like Sense-based ROM are working better. Is this true?
I just rooted and I want to install a custom ROM right now. Waiting impatiently for responses. hehe

It says, "An work in progress to bring working 4G to Gingerbread AOSP. Only available for Froyo MR1 radio."
That doesn't sound good to me... however, I admit that I don't know the details about the radios. I just assumed MR2 or MR2.5 would be an improvement. I'm not very happy with the stock Froyo radio (or GPS or battery life or anything else really).
Th3ory roms have been my favorite since his introduction, everything you're looking for. Try out the tester coming tonight, or wait a day for the release. Rediculous amount of dev support.

Thank you. I've been reading a lot of different threads and I was getting the impression that Th3ory roms are really good and the support is great.
What about INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 (SenseLESS)?
Regarding "the tester coming tonight" are you talking about this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186218
I was concerned about the market problems discussed in that thread. I know there are two different resolutions for market problems, but I got the feeling that this tester ROM is too bleeding edge for my first Thunderbolt ROM.
In reference to my list of important features in the OP, what advantages does the tester ROM have over INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01?
I'll go ahead and put in my 2 cents and suggest CM7.

Be sure that you flash the MR2 OTA radio and you'll be fine and dandy.

So if I flash the MR2 radio, I don't have to worry about the CM7 4G problems mentioned in various places such as this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057757
EDIT: ooops, the known issues listed rule this ROM out for me:
**Known Issues**
-Possible Data/Voice bugs and issues.
-gps slow to get locks
Looks like INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 is still the favorite.
I just installed INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01.
It is sync'ing at the moment. I haven't really used it yet, except to go through the steps to add my google account, etc.

I already flashed INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01, so we'll see how that goes. If it doesn't work out for me, I am interested in either das BAMF or CM 7.1.
haha yes! sorry for the typo. i'd suggest going ahead and flashing those other 2 ROMs when you get the chance to whether you like injectedtheory or not. one might suit your preferences more than another.
I was just making fun of threads like this in another post.
I've read these threads, tried most of them people swear by, didn't like most of them... And I'm back to my daily driver as usual. Every ROM has it's quirks. It's just a matter of what you're going to tolerate. Frankly, I don't know how people stand AOSP. My girlfriend loves it and I hate even touching that phone now. I've got this sexy 3D ROM that flows like water and it's literally 4.5 times the size. I'm just saying that if I posted this exact same thread, I'd find every single answer pretty much useless. Whatever you do, don't do a nightly.

The answers were not useless at all. The conversation helped me. But you notice that I didn't just ask a generic question. In the OP listed specific features that were important to me.
BTW, I only like ASOP ROMS as a rule, but I learned from this forum that Sense-based ROMs give less trouble on the Thunderbolt. If that wasn't true I would have stuck totally to ASOP.
Inject is great, and I do believe satisfies all of your bullets, except for dev support.

Thanks for that feedback. It was one of the first ROMs I looked at and I initially rejected it because Th3ory had moved on the the tester ROM and I do value active dev support.
But the potential market issues with tester10 concerned me more. So I came back to Inject. It's nice to hear your confirmation that it will probably satisfy most of my bullet points.

I'm going to keep following the tester thread. Now that I have installed my first Thunderbolt ROM, next time I might be ready for something a bit more challenging (but I still want a stable ROM I can use for all my daily needs).
Thanks again.
Are you guys noticing that a lot of the custom ROMs out now are pretty buggy? I have tried about 10 ROMs in the last two weeks, and usually they seem great at first. Eventually weird things start happening, like sluggish rotation behavior, or random reboots. Sometimes MMS messages will not send, sometimes texts get hung up and I have to delete all my threads... I've had my phone freeze while sleeping, and missed alarms. I find myself flashing a ROM almost every other day, because it seems that I don't notice a huge problem until it has a day to settle on my phone. One problem that really annoys me is that in the Gallery app, on some ROMs, when you rotate the phone, the picture flys off the screen for a second or so, then re-centers itself. In general I've had issues with 3G/1X, and sometimes even calls being sent to voicemail without ringing. I also notice that from one ROM to the next, battery life can be dramatically different, despite having the same exact settings.
When I had my un-rooted Evo 3D, I had barely any of those problems. I definitely never had it freeze during the middle of the night, or overheat, or get wildly-sluggish. Now, with my stock ROM, I never had as SMOOTH as an experience as the fastest custom ROM I've used, and I've also never had as great battery life as the longest-lasting custom ROM out there. I just wish there was a way to take all the good things from every ROM out there, and put it into one, perfect ROM. I have seen the ROMs that claim to do this, but they still tend to have basic flaws. It makes me think that an updated base is to blame for a lot of this. The first round of custom ROMs I had that were based off the original stock seemed rock-solid. Now I've tried just about everything, and there are glaring problems with each of them. Sometimes I am embarassed because my phone has powered off during very important times--like on-call situations at night.
I have multiple wipe APKs, but I was told that the newer superwipe was the end-all be-all of wiping, so that's what I've been using lately. Right now I am using one of the more stable ROMs, Revolution HD 1.1.1, but I still get the random picture movement when rotating in Gallery, I still get really bad 3G/1X problems, where I have to frequently turn off mobile data to get it back... I have had it reboot on me twice in the last 2 days. One thing that really pisses me off, which is not specific to this ROM, is that when I am on WIFI, MMS messages tend not to send or receive... I can't recall if the original stock ROM had this problem or not. I have this issue with stock messaging as well as Handcent. The moment I disable WIFI, my messages appear with images.
Being that I didn't have these issues with truly stock ROMs, I don't believe it is a hardware issue. Am I the only one experiencing these problems, or are others just glossing over these sort of reliability issues, and accounting them to being a flashaholic, or something similar? The only reason I keep flashing is to find one that is rock solid. If I could get the original stock ROM with battery life to get me through an entire day, I'd be happy, but it didn't come close.
What ROMs did you try?
MMS Messages send and receive over WiFi for me just fine (Sense ROM) but on AOSP, they will not.
I suggest you try one of the lesser popular ROMs, as the top ones seem to have the most issues according to my reading and research.
If you want a fast, stable and great battery life that just works check out CleanROM. It is basically stock with the junk pulled out. The dev is very hands. Worth looking at the very least.

Everyone uses their device differently, has wildly different settings, applications, amount of time per day spent doing one thing or another. In some cases we can consider there to be user error, but this really is unlikely in this case. The problem lies in the fact that we have more ROM"chefs" than developers that actually have the knowledge to code their own ROM from the ground up, instead of pasting other peoples work together and calling it an advancement. You can't provide support or bug fixes for work that isn't your's and you have little to no coding experience. Most of these roms are like some you mentioned; a ROM that just has simple things like "bloat" taken out. Those types of chefs have a purpose here, and their roms are nice for some users but they aren't doing much for the improvement of Android overall, and they don't know enough to be trying to slap features in that they can't debug...
Anyway, rant over. I think your reply was hasty and offensive, not to mention based on what I have seen, inaccurate. I think you have been lucky personally because you are using roms like clean ROM that don't add or change much. Therefore you really wouldn't experience what this user is referring to.
I get random reboots often. The mms over wifi has never been an issue though.

Yes to some extent I see your point. Smokin rom is a build based on steel rom... steel rom however, is just steel rom. Clean rom has had little issues with previous builds but scott being a dev has worked everything out and optimized that rom to the max... and it has its own tweaks to it as well. Same thing with steel rom. I'm not sure what wtsb is based off of but I have never had problems with that one either.
And virus rom is damn near flawless. I have never had a problem with... ever. Since day one. Been running 1.4 for over 2 weeks and it is just as fast as it was the day I flashed it. So im confused by the op's post when he says after a few days they have all lagged and become slow
Was I a little harsh? Maybe. But was I right to think this person is simply complaining and wasting my time? Absolutely. This thread is just him complaining, not problem solving, not helping anybody, just knocking people's hard work when the real issues are found on his end obviously.

Well ViperROM is actually known for having some problems. Viper is trying to fix that, but any other ROM that is posted (well some but not all) don't have any bugs unless they're posted on the OP. Any other weird hiccups you may experience will most likely be kernel related, such as the random reboots or severe battery drain. I've tried most of the ROMs here, and I have yet to experience any weird quirks unless they are the ones posted on the OP. There are some ROMs that do have weird bugs, but it's not all of the ROMs.

should you be whining about a "test" ROM having bugs? i think not, seeing as how it clearly says "Test" multiple times. what do you think test roms are for? to work out the bugs maybe. and phones are picky. all roms will not work perfectly for you. you "MUST" find the right rom/kernel combination that works best for the way you use your phone. less *****ing and more testing is all you need.

I'm with this guy.
Try a fresh install.
Only use stock apps for the first couple of days your trying.
The girlfriend used to have a stock unrooted Droid x that she would complain about screwing up but it was usually her using alternative music apps and such .
Also if you use titanium backup never batch restore your apps and data. Manually update each app that you want so your not restoring any nasty app data that might be screwing up your roms
Hope this helps

Yes, I've noticed it too but you just need to use a dose of caution and ask around. I tried about a half dozen ROM's and I've found that the ones that are more "tricked out" have the most problems. Makes sense, because they are fooling with more stuff in the ROM.
That said, there are some really fast and good ones out there. Deck's ROM never gave me any trouble but it was a little TOO stock for me. I've since switched to CleanROM 2.7 and that's incredibly solid and almost as fast as the tricked out OC'd ones. So try one of those preceded with a full wipe and you should be happy.

I was originally coming onto the forum to post about how every rom/kernel combo eventually starts freezing on me after a few days of use (causing me to miss alarms/calls/etc), when I ran into this post.
I do use Titanium backup pro to batch restore and have been doing so on the Hero/Epic/Shift/3vo. This is the first device that I have had any problems with, but it does seem to coincide with titanium backup since the stock rom was butter.
What's the method of manually updating each app? Is it simply downloading from the market and restoring data to that app? And how is that any different with the likelihood of restoring "nasty app data"?
OP, do you use titanium backup to batch restore apps too?
Everyone else, is there a log file that I can look at to discover the process that triggers the freeze?
No problems on the roms I've used at all. Most of these posts do end up being user error, or just a bad phone. As someone else suggested, try Cleanrom. It is bullet proof. Nothing fancy, but it works forever.
If there were more problems, there would be a ton more threads like this. Yet we only see a post like this every week or so...
I read a reply in a thread which explained that the current ICS leak runs the CPU full speed, instead of scaling it, whenever the screen is on. This was the member's explanation for why some people notice their phones running hotter than on GB.
Is this true? And to the extent that it is true, is it true of the preceding leaks as well? I guess what I'm wondering is whether this is something that HTC might be hoping to resolve before going live with an OTA.

Your guess is as good as mine and I too read that same reply. I've been trying to figure this out since the leak came out. Some people aren't having any problems and some people are having all sorts of problems. I haven't been in the Rezound thread long but I'm not new to flashing and I've been going back on forth on doing the leak or waiting for either the source for kernel help or the official ota. I was thinking maybe it was "noob" mistakes but from alot of the posts it seems that experienced flashers are having problems as well. Scott has a kernel thread in the Dev section if you wish to follow that, if you aren't already. I know that all phones are created equal and there are some built better than others. So far I've been pretty fortunate in my phones. I've never had to take a phone in for repair that I didn't eff up myself.... Obviously, I'd like to think by the time we get the official ota all things will be resolved but you never know. When I had my Evo 3D it took the latest ota to solve alot of battery issues that we had. I know I don't answer your question but I too have similar ones myself. Be well.
The current leak/kernel that is having problems is part of a release candidate, we can only hope HTC resolves it before the update is finalized. I wouldn't be surprised if another leak/release candidate shows up in the near future, each one has fixed more issues found in the earlier leaks.
jjwalter--
If I was in your shoes I would not take the leak. My phone is worse than bricked.
I can put the .11 GB kernel back on the phone with my old software, but the WIFI doesn't seem to work with the ICS radio firmware, and the thing's running hotter than ever.
I had no heat or battery life issues on the current GB -- all my problems began when I flashed the .22 leak. And as long as I'm stuck with these radios I don't think they'll get better. Your mileage may vary, but if it was up to me I wouldn't get in that car again.

Thanks for the heads up. From past flashing experience I have never seen a leak with a radio and firmware update. It's usually just a rom. With a leak this close I'm sure the ota isn't too far off and I'll just keep hanging around and root and flash once that drops. Thanks again.
I know if I were HTC/Verizon/ATT/Motorola... I'd be leaking any new builds right here on XDA. You couldn't find a better group of knowledgeable testers anywhere. In my mind, these leaks are on purpose, and I'd also guess there will be future releases that fix the issues the group here has found.
im running the latest leaked version and i have no heat problems whatsoever. i play hd games, on youtube for hours, etc...hottest its gotten was 120 degrees thats it. im running stock. as far as im concerned GB is dead to me
My phone doesn't get hot playing games on the leak, but you put that mofo to stream some music and it about burns through my pants in class, and then half my extended battery is gone. It is definately due to the scaling issue
Yea I see a lot of people saying they have heat and reboot issue but they are the same people asking newb questions if ya wipe everything, check the md5, flash the ruu, and do it right you will not have problems 99% of the time. Don't be afraid to update just because a couple user experience problems its not like some guy in his mom's basement made this leak its a leak from google got out god knows how but still built with their algorithm, software, and knowledgeable engineers. I would update sense 3.6 is way better than 3.5 and ics has a lot more backup options and a better user experience. I recommend you do just make sure to do a backup before you do so you can revert back if need be.
