If your phone was bricked in any way, but still shows something on the screen when powered on or plugged in, try this.
1. Take out battery, put it back in. (to turn the phone fully off)
2. Don't turn it the phone on!
3. Plug the phone into your PC, do not hit the power button!
4. See if the phone shows anything on the screen
IF the phone screen does show the battery charger or something else on the screen after being plugged in without you hitting the power button, so far so good.
5. Now while it's on like this, hold the volume up and volume down buttons.
6. Hold the power button as well as the volume buttons until the screen goes black.
7. As soon as the screen goes black, let go of the power button! But DON'T let go of the volume buttons!
When done properly, this will always get you into Download mode. After that you should be able to use Odin to revert to stock, tar and instructions here:

This fixed my 'odd' bricks. Over and over again.
I'd say it's impossible to truly brick this phone.
I have been researching this most of the day, due to some testing I was doing, and the one thing I have come to realize is that this phone recovers well from "brick" it's not a true brick it's just scary. One of the posts I read, here on xda, said that unless the blue progress bar started advancing while using Odin, you can unplug, pull battery fairly safely.

Haha well that's exactly what happened to me. I flashed wrong with Odin and it failed halfway through, and I had no choice but to reboot the phone.
And when I did I got a truly odd screen. All I could see was a picture of a phone connected to an exclamation point connected to a laptop. That's it. Lol.
And I fixed it by doing this.
omg, i love you This totally fixed my problem XD
Everyone kept saying go to download mode, but no one ever said to "7. As soon as the screen goes black, let go of the power button! But DON'T let go of the volume buttons!"
super life saver... thanks alot
I actually did find someone else say to do that but it was out of luck as it was deeply buried. Don't remember where it was here lol
Its nice to have people who help us newbies

Yea, last night I was messing around with the latest lag fix, but it ending up causing a lot of FC's, so I had to revert to stock a few times. I tried to make it work using ext2 and ext3, but it still wasn't stable enough. I didn't enjoy the noticeable speed increase, but it wasn't worth it since launcher pro was one of the programs that was FCing.
Anyways, so after I gave up for the 3rd time, I flashed stock using ODIN and it got stuck. I left it there for awhile with no progress and the phone's screen actually just went completely black. I pulled the battery and got the weird cell phone pointing to computer icon. I almost crapped my pants at that point. Very scary moment since I had not seen that screen before.
A quick google search for "bricked Vibrant" led me to this thread and voila! My Vibrant is alive and well again.
Thanks a bunch.
PS: After reflashing stock that many times, I still find it strange that after a fresh flash, I still get a noticeable speed boost by wiping the phone through the privacy setting. Not sure if it's a placebo effect, but I swear it makes a noticeable difference every time.

Glad I could help!
And that's intersting. I'll make sure to wipe the privacy settings. I actually haven't ever wiped them yet.
No go for me.
I used the stupid partition tool in rom manager. partitioned the internal memory not the sd card.
Saw a few others did this, and this worked for them, either right away or after flashing eugene's froyo rom then reverting back, but that rom just hangs on cache.fsd or something like that.
Trying to repartition through odin, with no download files selected right now. It does not appear to be doing anything, just set pit file, then do not turn off target in odin.
Will leave it for a bit, maybe try to flash this again, i think the issue might be deeper for me though. need kernel and everything else.
I did that but my phone locked up and now all I get is a picture of a yellow cation sign next to a little phone and pc pic.. anything I can do at this point or??
tried going into recovery and download mode but it wont let me past that screen.
Thank you so much for this, I received a replacement set 2 days ago and was playing around the the phone and I bricked it, it thought it was frozen so I pulled the batter and it bricked.
I followed your instructions and it works like a charm. What I did find though is that i can't seem you use odin on a mac even with a virtual machine. I had to use an actual PC.

Great find for all.
has anyone found a way to unbrick a flashed EU rom then the person flashed to US rom? and then the power wont come on? But the unit does get hot when plugged in?
Im trying to see if i need to jtag this thing. or if anyone had success?
Thanks
ok so my vibrant gave me the cell phone and computer screen i got it back in download mode. started odin to get it back to stock but no matter how long i let odin go nothing happens i got the files that i need for odin out of a thread on these forums and i have followed the directions to the letter and still nothing. any help some one can give would be great. thank you for your time.
How do I know if my phone is being picked up by Odin or being flashed?
did the same thing the clockwork partition wiped my internal memory
F**k!
woop guess im going to tmobile in the a.m. and playin the whole
idk what happened it wont turn on
thank god for the 14 day return policy!
I ran into "brick mode" myself 2 nights ago and could not get my phone into download mode. Any possible combo of volume key up/down and power had no effect. Just that phone exclamation point pc icon slowly blinking in the center of the screen. I did finally get it into download mode but it wasn't using any of the previously mentioned methods, so I'll add one more to the growing list to try. This one worked for me after almost 4 hours of experimenting.
BTW....my phone would never display the battery charging image when powered off and plugged in. Just this same annoying image.
Pull the battery. Put it back in. Hold the just the volume down button. Do not hold the power button. Plug in either a wall charger or USB cable. The cable will power up the phone and voila. I was in the download screen.
I also highly recommend the stock ROM from the thread
"[ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working)" In Vibrant > Vibrant Android Development
I tried another ROM found out on the internet and ended up with a shell that crashed and restarted every 60 seconds.
For those running into Odin stuck on a message about verifying the file system, I had no luck when the phone used COM3. I suggest moving your USB cable into different ports on your PC. Each new port will "install" a new instance of the phone using different COM ports. COM5 and COM6 both worked as I was reflashing the day away yesterday.
I posted this over at SD, but not sure that gets the traffic that XDA does so I'm double posting...

I was upgrading from an old version of VeganTab to Brillant Corners. I NVFlashed to 1.1 3588 and made sure things worked. I then nvflashed to 1.2 4349 and let things boot up. Everything seemed to work. I then put the BC update.zip on the sdcard and rebooted to recovery which installed BC. I also installed the supplement. Everything worked although I noticed some instability in BC, I gave it a few days but it just didn't seem right so I nvflashed back to 4349.
I was going to reinstall BC but after I nvflashed 4349 I had some issues... I ended up getting a magic number mismatch and when I shut off the tablet and tried to start it again I no longer got any birds or any gtablet screen. It didn't seem like anything was happening. I panicked a little and started reading the recovery options over at the dummies site. I talked myself into cracking open the tab and trying the unplug the battery method of getting back into APX mode. After turning on and off the device a few times, I believe I also ended up hitting the reset button inside the case, I finally noticed that when I was powering on the tab it was going straight to APX mode without showing the birds.
I then nvflashed back to 4349 and booted up. I put the tab back together and when I got booted back up I noticed that I now had no touch screen. My buttons work (home, back, etc...). I could plug in a mouse and click around. But the screen didn't register any touches. I started reading about the touch screen and trying things. I flashed back to 1.1 different roms, flashed back to 1.2. Nothing fixed the screen. I ran the fix screen calibration from the 1.2 recovery and also by putting the file on the sdcard and external sdcard.
I also let the battery drain all the way dead and tried reflashing and recharging and still had no luck.
I also cracked the tab back open to check all the connections. I can't find any reference as to what cord is the connection for the touch screen. Everything internal looks plugged in and ok. I'm always careful with electronics, I have a desk for working on them and have been playing with them since modding PS1's back in the late 90's.
Does anybody have any ideas, anybody head of this. Did some hardware get ruined and do I have a broken tab. I have one of the original tabs, bought when they first appeared at Staples last fall.
*** Somebody suggested running the Code Detox from the dummies site ***
Well I did the detox, after wiping and using the format nvflash I ended up with a magic value mismatch. I used the internal reset button to get the device to connect in APX mode and successfully flashed back to 1.1 3588. Booted up normally but the touch screen is still not responsive. I'm not sure what else to try. I might have just borked the device. I may try completely disassembling the table and reassembling it to make sure nothing got disconnected. I'll also inspect the connections to make sure no wires look damaged.
Anybody else have any other ideas?

Hey
Im also suffering from a similar problem. Everything works and my gtab boots up fine, but the touchscreen is unresponsive. Ive pulled the device apart and looked for any damaged connections especially the ribbon connection to the outer touch screen layer. Everything looked fine. After putting back together, i started and it booted up fine, but touchscreen still unresponsive.
Has anyone else been able to recover from this? What did you do?
Cheers
I ended up calling the support number and the device was under waranty so I got a RMA and sent it in. 2 weeks later I had it back working, same case but I think the guts were swapped. Only cost me the shipping. Pretty good deal. Just make sure you flash back to stock.

Hello,
Don't know if this has been asked but I have been looking for it for a while. Cant seem to fine a solution.
I flashed my phone wrong with hemdall now my phone wont turn on. Screen completely black i reboot pulled out the battery everything I can think of can you give me a suggestion. I was thinking about buying a USB Jig.
I'm in the same boat and I bought the Jig. However I think Josh just acts as a middle man on this one and shipping is actually from overseas. But you can find it here. http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/ I suggest a little extra shipping cost.
However the other suggestion if that is not working (I think I killed my phone) is to have Josh do a Jtag on the phone. You can find that at http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-vibrant-jtag-brick-repair/
Can you get into download mode? Remove battery, plug usb, press up+down vol buttons and insert battery.
hey i having same problem but i could see the vibrant samsung screen but my phone won't pass that and like you say about the usb cable and then plugging the battery i can do that as well but how can i get my phone back and running another rom!!!

If you can see the Vibrant Samsung screen just use Odin to flash back to stock

The real solution here i doing a JTAG to your phone or make the Unbrickable MOD (It's very dangerous, a person with Welding and electronic skills must do this).
Another thing you can do is buy a broken Screen phone from Ebay (it more cheaply) and change the motherboard!!
My suggestion would be to continue to try to get into Download mode on the phone. My phone was DEAD no life at all plugged into the wall or PC. I kept trying to get it into download mode and magically after hours of failures, ODIN recognized the device! The phone was still DEAD no life at all on the screen but ODIN had recognized that my device WAS indeed connected. So I continued to flash back to stock and as always with a little patience ODIN was there to save me. The phone automatically rebooted after ODIN was done and BOOM! Good2Go
Goodluck!
^^I'm gonna try that and hopefully with some patience it will work. Otherwise I'm also gonna be ordering a jig, they're not that expensive. My problem is the same as the OP's. My vibrant will just not give any signs of life. I was trying to odin to stock from one cosmics ics RC3.1. Wanted to start on a fresh install for AOKP build 25. But then odin decided to fail on modem.bin. then it just hung and phone turned off, haven't been able to turn it on since. I've spent the last two hours trying to put in different combinations and keys and usb attachments to bring any hints of life, but so far nothing. Bootloader update was not checked on odin so I'm pretty confident that its not due to bootloader mismatch but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Sending it back to samsung or tmobile is very far of an option since I've modified the phone to add FFC. If anyone has any advice or hints it would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of hating myself and flashing now since I was very happy with the rom that I had and how everything was setup. I just wanted to try something new for fun and this went and blew everything up.
^^I literally held down the buttons > plugged in the cord > put in the battery > and counted in my head the amount of seconds it took the phone to "normally" boot to where I would "normally" let go of the power button to get into Download mode, lol I know it sounds ridiculous but that's how I did it. It helped that I had my sisters working Vibrant right there, I used her phone to get into download mode and timed the process and used that as a baseline for the timing of trying to get the "DEAD" Vibrant into download mode.
If all else fails a JTAG as mentioned should fix your problem fosho!
Goodluck!
Ye I fixed it. One day I did what I had been doing the whole time and it just decided to work. Got into download mode then went back to stock. Our phone is so freaking weird yet I love the damn thing. It really is unbrickable. To anyone in this situation just never give up.

I have the Verizon LG G3. I rooted the phone and had Jasmine rom 7.0 and TWRP installed and it ran flawlessly for the past 2 weeks or so. Today I went to look at the phone and while it looked like the phone was powered down the screen was slightly brighter than normal. I tried to double tap the screen to wake it, and then I tried to use the power button. No response. I pulled the battery, stuck it back in and turned the power on. I get to the LG logo and then the phone goes dark and the led starts flashing red and blue until I pull the battery again. I then try and manually go into TWRP mode and I get to the menu and press factory reset it then asks me if I am sure I press yes and it turns the screen off and back to the flashing red and blue LED with a black screen. The same thing happens no matter what option I try and when I try to go into download mode as well. I get to download mode but once I let go of the volume button it goes back to the black screen with the red and blue flashing led. The firmware screen never appears so not sure what else I can do. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Very weird, when the phone is flashing the red and blue LED and the screen is black if I press the down volume button the LED's stop blinking and the LG logo comes on the screen and just sits there. I tried again to use recovery to factory reset to put me into TWRP and again after I hit the yes button the phone turns off and the blue and red LED's start flashing. I am ready to fire this phone into a wall. It was working perfectly fine and then p00f.
I'm sorry to say I think the only help would be a warranty repair if it's under a year or insurance if you have that.
Without being able to keep it in Download mode, I wouldn't know what else to do.

I believe your only hope is this, and you will need to carefully adapt it to the G3. You can use a linux live cd, or run linux in virtual machine - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
23C img's here - https://www.mediafire.com/folder/dz9jknpwjdifw/23c
Or, if you have a microphone crack like many of us do have it replaced for that.
Thanks guys...my phone does not show up at all in Device manager (so this doesn't apply "LG detected as qhsusb_bulk in device manager") not to mention that sounds a bit too complicated to me. I think there is something hardware wise wrong with the phone. I didn't screw anything up, it was running Jasmine 7.0 perfectly. TWRP was installed and I had not tried to do any other flashes since installing Jasmine a while ago so I think something crapped out. The phone always felt way too warm even when I wasn't doing anything with it and this is before I rooted it so maybe it was just a dud. I will bring it back to Verizon as roirraW "edor" ehT suggested and see what they say. Thanks again for the replies..

Definitely sounds like a hardware issue. I hope you still have the manufacturer warranty and a backup phone just in case they won't exchange yours for another :S
They wouldn't do a swap but they are sending me a new phone by Fed EX. The phone was only 3 months old so definitely still warrantied. They were all pretty flabbergasted by the flashing blue and red LED, even after getting into stock recovery nothing could be done from there.
Hey there. Out of nowhere today my phone rebooted on it's own and is now stuck on the "LG Life's Good" splash screen. I have the AT&T version (H900) and bone stock everything (I have not messed with bootloaders or rooting or anything). I tried removing the battery and this also does nothing. Anyone else have this issue and know what to do to fix it?
Thanks
Update: After letting the phone sit for about 20 minutes it magically booted and is now working fine... not sure what happened.
Have you tried doing a factory reset of you phone?
1) Turn off the phone.
2) Then hold down the Volume Down and Power button together for a couple of seconds.
3) As soon as the LG logo is displayed, let go of the Power key, keep pressing the Volume Down and then press once more the Power button.
Afterwards you should see a factory reset menu on your screen.
4) Confirm process by choosing appropriate options using Volume rockers to navigate and Power button to confirm.
5) Now your phone should restart.
6) Success! The hard reset has just been completed.
I am having this same problem.
Was using Pandora and GPS. It cut off and has not come back on. I attempted to open in safe mode recovery mode l and tried to-do a factory reset.
When I did the reset It went through the erasing process but when it rebooted it stayed on the LG screen. I've tried all the "common" trouble shooting suggestions... Its been two hours now.
Any new experiences with this issue?
Im also having the same issue with my V10 - Verizon model. Watching a YouTube video and it reset and got stuck on the LG logo splash screen. Followed instructions to do a factory reset and after about 45 min of being stuck on the factory reset screen after I confirmed it reset and booted up. All data and setting were still saved, and after about 3-5 minutes it reset again and went right back to being stuck on the LG splash screen.
Any other advice? or is it just dead?
I am having the same issue with my stock AT&T V10. It randomly turned off, then I couldn't even get it to turn on. No charge screen. No Life's Good. I took out the battery and it would get to the blinking red question mark, but there is no way that I can see that I can use the phone without the battery. Sometimes the phone will boot to the LG screen, but mostly it will not. Even if it does, it will shut down after 3 mins or so.
Once I tried to hard reset it, and the phone just vibrated until i took the battery out. So I dont know whats going on. The phone has been running warm when playing Pokemon Go so maybe that's the culprit? Not like I was playing it all the time though.
Luckily I moved *most* of the new baby pictures over to the microSD. Ugh, I hope I can get the rest!

@jjall Very odd. Glad I am not the only one, though! I chatted with an AT&T service tech last night and he basically said he has no idea what is going on, but what he read about something similar indicated that the phone and all the files are most likely corrupted. Luckily I moved most of the photos over to the extra microsd, I am going to an AT&T service center to see if they can work any magic and retrieve any other files. Last night the tech started a warranty replacement and the new(ish) phone is on its way.
I did get it to boot to the white safe mode screen but was not ready to say erase all, just in case it erases the photos. I chose to restart the phone and nothing, just black. Every once in a while the phone will just vibrate for 30 seconds before shutting down while the screen is black. Other times I get the soft vibrate as though it is turning on, but nothing happens. Some times I get the LG screen, but then that just turns off. No rhyme or reason except that I at least get some response after the phone and battery have been apart for a while.
I'll update when I get back.

Yeah. I get the same thing. I'm taking it to att today to see if anything can be done. My only problem is that I dropped the phone a few months ago, the only time i've dropped it, and lens came off without me noticing. I'm pretty sure that voids the warranty. Either way, i'll see if i can pay for an upgrade or something. Good luck to you.

My guys said they could not do anything, but as I was playing with the phone, it magically came to life! I was in the process of moving all the photos to the microsd, then it froze, crashed, then wouldn't turn on. So it's possible! They mentioned taking it to a cell-phone tech place to see if they could do anything as they have better tools to help fix things. Dunno what that would do to the warranty. The tech guys did say they dont carry any spare parts or batteries for the V10 because it never has a problem. I told them that there is a rash going around and they might see it soon.
I did notice that the colder i kept the phone, the more of a chance that it would *at least* turn on, before crashing. So at least there is hope...somewhere. Hoping a new battery will help maybe, even though it seems to be a hardware issue.
How's your luck @jjall?

Actually, i just got home and I decided to try out to see if it worked. I got the 0% battery sign. Plugged it in and it actually seems to be charging! So i'm hopeful. I also noticed that my phone has been getting hot lately. And that my battery life was crap. But that's just LG. I talked to an ATT customer service rep. and they told me that I could have the camera lens replaced so that my phone would be covered for an exchange. Even if it turns on, i'm going to exchange it just as soon as save all my files. Hopefully they'll take it now that it's working....
EDIT
it decided to turn on while it was charging. Froze on booting screen. It was HOT. Like I almost dropped it.
Hmm, I was going to say "CONGRATS!" but sorry. Did the battery get hot or did the phone itself get hot? Feels like mine is getting hot at or near where the led flash is. Gonna let it stay in this LG welcome screen for a bit and find out. I'm wondering if a new battery would help, but I have to wait until the 19th though before my replacement shows up.
Also, were you playing Pokemon go before? Wondering if that is what started this all.
Hello!
So the same thing happened to me. I was not playing any games on my phone. I had JUST clocked out of work using an application on my phone and sent a text. It has turned off on its own and didn't want to even turn back on. I removed the battery and set it back in.. it turned on to the LG screen and stayed until it blacked out again shortly after.
Same issue with TMO LG V-10 here. Was using phone and it went black and shut down. Now in a loop with the LG boot screen. It tried a few times then just goes black.
Well I just got my replacement and the new battery didn't do anything to help the broken phone. Guess I am going to lose some important pictures. I have a few days to keep on trying before I have to send it back to AT&T. Interesting this is happening to a few people all around the same time.
@Buzzbee21 did you notice your phone running hot at all before the shut down? Mine was running hot a lot, so maybe the heat protection is the problem.
At time yes. Not so much when it did quit. However, I left it sit on a fan and chilled it, and one time when I was able to get to the wipe screen, before it quit again, it got very hot in the afformentioned area.
Less than a year old. Getting a warranty replacement, but still disappointed as I think having the replaceable battery and abiltiy to put a large Micro SD card in it, along with the finish, camera, and Audio make the V10 one of the nicest phones out there.

this may sound weird but the same thing happen to me.... put the phone in the freezer for a while then boot it up but be prepared to get your pics, music, etc off of it quick... mine works fine until it warms up to room temp, then back in the freezer it goes to do it again... did it like 4 times today and saved over 1600 pics, bunch of videos and music. (saved them to a mircoSD card)
Wow. This happened to me last night, and I thought it was the weirdest thing. I wasn't even using my phone. It was sitting on my dinner table, and I noticed the screen on with the LG logo. I went over and picked it up. It stayed on the logo a few minutes, so I took the battery out. Then I turned it on, nothing but LG screen. I kept messing with it with a combination of Power/volume down and finally got it to come on to my home screen. It worked for about five minutes before being wonky again. I took the batter out all night. I'm hoping that I can get it to come on again today (I've tried 10 times and not been able to) so that I can make sure the developer options is checked, then I can hook it to the computer and mess around with it.
Thanks for this thread. It seems most of us just started having this issue in August. I'm planning on getting the V20 next month, but I need this one to last until then. haha Please keep us updated if anyone figures anything out and I will do the same.

SO, not saying this will help anything but, after messing around with the phone for several hours I've learned this:
If you take the battery out, then plug it into your laptop, then turn it on: a battery icon will pop up with a ? on it.
From there, if you hold down the VOLUME down key, and insert the battery, it will take you into the quick boot menu automatically. Unfortunately I never set that up, and not it will not allow me to set it up. I assumed I could get to safe mode from there. This is the first time I've seen where I would have to "set up" the quick boot menu. This is my first LG phone though. I usually use HTC, or MOTO.
Now, the more interesting thing is, begin as I did last time.
Phone off, battery out, plug into computer, power on. Then hold the UP volume key as you insert the battery and it will take you to your "Tethering" option. So for most of you that have this problem, maybe you will be able to get the data to back it up. Unfortunately for me, it tells me I have to do a Firmware update first, and to not unplug the USB connection until it is complete. If your firmware is up to date, maybe it will allow you to do back up (I thought my firmware was up to date, but guess not).
I hope this helps someone, and I do hope that someone can build on what I've done so far so we can figure out how to at least get our data off the phone.

The phone got hot. It was getting hot starting from around the power buttons. And it sometimes got hot before i downloaded pokemon go. Not as often, but it happened from time to time. I think it might be because i'm no longer using the original power usb cable.... idk. Just waiting for a replacement.
Can you say the first 3 digits of the serial number of the device to boot loop problem?
