Just purchased X7510 Advantage - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Hi
I am new to this and have purchased a new HTC Advantage on WM6.1. I also have a Touch Diamond. It there anything i should do to have the Advantage running at its best or any good apps that would make its more useful?
I will mainly use the Advantage for mobile working, email and reviewing documents. I also will use it to keep my banking blog up to date while on the move.
Thanks in advance for your help.

jonryan,
Welcome to the forum
You might want to try out SoftMaker, which lets you have full office documents creating, editing, and viewing capabilities. In fact, it has exactly the same full desktop functionalities on the 5 inch screen.
Of course, viewing videos on the move on this large screen is something no other phones can match. This includes doing youtube on the move too, with either Coreplayer or YoutubePlayer. I use both, but more the later. I always prefer to save it first before watching, as it means I'm charged the data download cost only once, not to mention the smoother playing of the video too.
Another software that works uniquely well only on the Athena (again it is because of the large screen) is realVGA at 96dpi. No other phone is really still useable at that dpi IMHO.
The Athena also manifests it's strength using GoogleMap. You can see the satellite maps so much more and better.
Same goes for Webbrowsers, eReaders, PDF file readers and the like. You can see MORE with the same font size as the other phones.
Cheers.

Does Coreplayer download to save youtube videos or does it stream?

Coreplayer streams, but very high quality and fast.

Guys
Thanks for all your replys. It is great to get such good information and actual user specific info. Will let you know how it goes.

Windows Media Player Not Full Screen

I purchased the digital version of Alice In Wonderland. It does play on the HD2 with Windows Media Player. When I tap menu, then full screen, the movie plays in landscape, but does not fill the entire screen. There is black on all 4 sides of the picture. I looked in options, and there is a check mark in the box for "scale to fit window".
Is anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
I did search for an answer but found nothing. Why isn't my movie filling the entire screen?
Same Problem
Okay I'm finally getting back to my same old problem. No one responded before so here are more details.
Searches tell me that the HD2 will play wmv right out of the box. That's true if you use Windows Media Player. I can't get HTC Sense to even find my wmv file when I point the album right at the correct folder!
So I play the wmv with Windows Media Player and it won't go full screen.
Is anyone else having this problem? What's going on?
mmm every one knows windows media play is ****...try core player or TCMPC players their the best for watching video files
Thank You

Thanks for the reply. I've seen coreplayer recommended but there is no trial version to see if it will take this wmv to full screen. I'll look at TCMPC. Do you happen to know if either of them play videos full screen on the HD2?
I finally blew off the digital version that came with the DVD. I took the DVD and ripped it to a mp4 using DVDFab7. I have no idea if I've selected the ideal settings but it worked. I can play Alice full screen using the HTC Album.
trial version to see? yes it plays full screen..
1st rule google.com

3rd ur wasting my time and others time by posting this instead of actually reading descriptions and searching around!
hence why u had no replys
Wow, I cant help in anyway here, but I think the response given is totally uncalled for...
Of course I searched!

Of course I want a trial version to test it out. I could waste a lot of money buying every single app I want to try. I did search around and saw posts here and on other sites that said coreplayer doesn't have full screen acceleration.
I always search, I'm not new to xda.
Thank you Gstq10000, for your reply.
well for ppl who want things to happen things happen...soz i found a trial version of core before i bought cause i actually googled it...
it would be one less worthless thread on xda if ppl read the rules and used google and xda search
To the OP: What it sounds like you're experiencing is a resolution conflict. I've recently been experiencing this as well, and the "quick fix" solution was to reduce my display resolution when watching one of those videos. While I have little doubt that it has to do with the codec used to encode the video, I don't have a solid explanation for why it is that some videos have a maximum resolution after which they simply refuse to fit to the screen whereas other videos of similar resolution are all too happy to scale to fit even if it means enlarging the pixels so the video will fill the screen.
Perhaps a more knowledgeable traveler could shed some light on why this occurs if not also on a more permanent practical solution.
**Edit** I apologize for the necromancy. I failed to check the last post date before submitting this reply.

a quick newbie question about the cinema plugin

just to clear things up before my 101 arrives in a few days : is the cinema plugin needed only for the mpeg2/ac3 5.1 combo or also for mpeg2 video in combination with some other type audio, and ac3 5.1 audio in combination with some other type video? in other words, is any of the two in a media file enough for the cinema plugin to be needed or do they both have to be present? h.264/ac3 5.1 combo works without the plugin? i guess not but i'd like to make certain...
thanks!

no.
thanks for the answer!
now, i have several video clips with h.264/ac3 5.1 in an mkv container. i'm trying to transcode these clips into mkvs or mp4s with the same video stream (so, video direct stream copy) and transcoded audio to either ac3 2.0 or aac that archos supports without the cinema plugin. none of the transcoders i tried seemed to be able to do this: mediacoder, super, handbrake (i'm not even sure if handbrake supports direct video stream copy, i wasn't able to find it) - they all failed. has anyone tried to do this and can recommend a good transcoder? i don't want to re-encode the video, just the audio stream.
thanks!
try vlc, ok it's a bit complicated but it definitly supports reuse of streams on the fly.
and do not reencode to ac3, afaik ac3 is completely depending on the cinema plugin
You can also use rock player free, although it leaves buttons on edge

yes, i read that everything above 540p is choppy without hw accel on a101.
i used a workaround that works but it's not ideal: i demuxed the ac3 5.1 audio stream from the mkv and re-encoded it into aac, then remuxed it back into the mkv. this works but it would be nice to have a one-step process to do this. i'm not sure what goes wrong with all the transcoders if you use direct video stram copying, i must be doing something wrong ... i'll be grateful if someone has any ideas. oh, and i haven't tried vlc yet - didn't even know it features transcoding, too...
thanks!
...or i'll just buy the freaking cinema plugin, it's only 15€ after all ... it's just that i like fooling around with free tools before i buy something which is not necessary and is something which should've come free with the product imo... oh, well
cheers
You got two options:
a) transcode all your movies/videos and spend couple of hours fooling around (how much $$$ is an hour? )
b) spend 15$ and be happy with the best video player available on archos' android devices
Okay, I have to ask. Can someone give a link to where you can buy the cinema pack? I've been trying to find it at store.archos.com or whatever and I can't find it. And yes...I feel pretty stupid about it since it seems everyone else knows where to buy it.

You have to put in your product key and it should give you the option for the plugin.
Don't feel stupid; the Archos site is awful and half the links don't work right. The above link that blazingwolf posted should work. Note that when you do successfully purchase the pack, you will get a download link presented on the web page - that one does NOT work, or at least it didn't for me... it kept saying invalid product ID.
I had to use the link in the email they sent out after the order was completed. That one downloaded fine.

Thanks Wolf! Or is it Blazing? Either way, thanks. I'm tempted to get it, but on the flip side I'm not sure if I will keep the 101 or upgrade to the Xoom WiFi only tablet. I don't really NEED more than the 101, but you know...in reality I probably didn't even NEED the 101 to begin with. I'm kind of rambling...so I'll post now and put down the keyboard...

[Q] Video Playback Problems

For some reason when I try to play videos on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 they keep coming out choppy and pixilated. I tried the default player, Mobo, and RockPlayer, and the videos still come out all pixilated and choppy. I tried putting a few movies on there last night like Inception, The Dark Knight, and Limitless and they were all choppy and pixilated. I used .avi, .mp4, and .m4v formats, none of which worked. I even tried downloading vids encoded specifically to work on mobile devices such as iPod/PSP and they didn't work. I even downloaded HandBrake for Mac and followed the directions on Cnet and nothing played properly. Everything played choppy and pixilated on all the players.
A Google search showed that MANY people are all having the same problem, so I don't think it is an isolated issue with my specific Tab. How the hell can I play videos clearly on my Tab???
I use vplayer
try Diceplayer.... IT plays anything i throw at IT..... except 1080 mkv, they stutter sometimes
Use the low profile settings for handbrake from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825
Or use the Samsung Kies software and let it automatically convert the video for you when you transfer it to your device (handbrake is faster and slightly better quality imo).
Or as has been suggested already, try DicePlayer from the market and see if it works with your files.
MeGUI is the only way for top video quality in your tablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245668
mine doesn't even play divx.. on my galaxy s its no problem, it plays almost anything
Upload the sample-megui.mp4 file to your tablet and open it with Google Videos app. Let me know if it works and how is the quality. Make sure you tap on the 5.1CH logo to enable the 6 channels sound.
Not sure if you have an unlocked bootloader, but I heard that the Videos will force a bootloader lock. Mines is already locked, so I don't care...
I've the same problem. I've tried everything (change player, video quality, etc.) but the video playback still sucks. I hope the release of vlc for android will fix this issue, but I'm a little bit disappointed..

It may be an option but it isn't the ONLY option (Handbrake is at least one other proven option that many people here use), keep your marketing spam out of this thread.
Anyone who claims that their solution is the ONLY solution is clearly here to do some marketing.
In fact, for those who use MacOS or Linux, MeGUI is NOT an option, period.
Nah, no marketing here. Been on forums for a long time (Google my full name) and I hear what you say... sorry for misunderstanding. I'm an old member on doom9, they are hardcore video people. Handbrake is great for mobile devices, while MeGUI allows you to to encode your video's at any level you want.
Cheers

Heh, I was on Doom9 when Doom9 the dude was still a regular, and Gej was still pounding on DivX 3.11. Old times, eh.
As for MeGUI, it's not the only front-end around. If you're on Doom9, then you know better. Most do basically the same thing, which is to run x264.dll plus some processing via AVISynth. Each front-end has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Despite its dinosaur interface, Handbrake is still more user friendly than MeGUI or most front-ends, and it does the job more than well enough. The auto-IVTC works well.
MeGUI allows more manual fiddling, as of course do most geek tools. It's been around a while, and there are newer "geek" front-ends with better UI. But for the hardcore, the "only way" is to ignore front-ends and use the tools directly, ie x264.exe and AVISynth, and write scripts as needed.
Check out my "conversion" script below. It's a geek tool geared for noobs (only one menu), but is infinitely adjustable for geeks. The script is only a text file, after all.

I totally agree with you, MeGUI is a pro tool not intended for the novice user. However, as you said it so well, you can't beat MeGUI's customization levels allowing you to achieve amazing results. I get both of worlds, I do my own AviSynth scripts directly into MeGUI... I encode all my Bluray's with it for Media Center and push the data through Yammm. Now that I got a tablet, is time to redo some of my faves for the P7510.
BTW, good fortune with Searchlight and Axivo.

TFP Review, tips, apps, test videos

Hey all.
Just wanted to share with you a series of youtube videos I'm doing covering all aspects of the TFP. I'm well aware that many of you in this forum are far more knowledgable than me about getting the best out of the prime but it's thanks to little help posts and stuff that I've learned the things I've learned so I thought I'd share my knowledge as I learn more and more and enjoy what the prime has to offer. I've tried using the youtube link button but it doesn't seem to set them up as videos so I guess you'll have to use the links. I'll update this thread as and when I make more videos. Thanks for watching and commenting in advance
Thanks
THANKS. AS I ran out of them. YouTube button is easy to use. Just press it. Then add the YouTube video code in the middle. Make sure no spaces are in-between. I had a hard time at first figuring it out. The spaces are what messed me up. Now its very easy to do and works. It would be better for you to convert links to embedded videos. To keep everything centralized and within this thread. If I get a chance, I might look into converting them for you. It is alot of videos though..lmfao. or I might make you a little how to on it.
Will be checking these out soon.
Thanks for your efforts.
Setting up a bluetooth mouse
Here's another one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jethnymDlmY - Setting up a bluetooth mouse
And here's an attempt with the youtube button. Still doesn't seem to work for me
See only this part " jethnymDlmY" needs to go in-between [YOUTUBE]exAmplecode[YOUTUBE] Best way is go to desktop YouTube site. Then on video page, click share that's underneath video. A code will pop up like the one you just tried to post. Instead of the whole thing, only grab the last part of code /last part. Then come back here. Make your post. Press YouTube button. Then paste code exactly in the middle. Make sure no spaces. Then press OK or whatever and video should be embedded. That's exactly what I did with what I saw you try to post. Put last part of code in between both [YOUTUBE][YOUTUBE] And here's the embedded video
Awesome. Thanks for that. I've worked out how to fix it - done one video. I'll do the rest soon.
Videos now fixed and embedded. Thanks to demandarin. More videos coming soon
A video review about google currents
A highlight reel of the videos I've done so far
Fixed the above one which was showing the wrong video. Today's video is about my cloud storage.
One I'm sure most of you are aware of but a useful demonstration of the volume difference using your right hand.
Putting Snesdroid through its paces.
Hi there, not to disrupt the cleanliness of your thread here, but:
Did you happen to catch the app that would let us stream chosen content (say YouTube as the most obvious) over other apps? I'm pretty sure I remember just such an app being named at some point and have since lost the thread.
Don't know to be honest. Sorry
This is a two-parter. Things didn't go quite as planned because of the tablet and applications. That's why I did it though; to show if it could be done, how difficult it could be to do and what the final end product would look like. It shows how, productivity wise, tablets just still aren't up to the task.
The first video is actually the final product of me recording stuff with the Prime tablet and editing it together using the Movie Studio app.
The second video is of me editing the first video together.
This is a look at the BBC iplayer application/website.
A look at the ASUS exclusive widget: myzine
A pretty cool news app here for you. News Republic.
MX Video and Swipepad
Two vids today. One about MX Video
The second is about an application I came across after it being mentioned on here actually: Swipe pad - a very cool task switcher/app launcher app.
Today's video is a look at a variant of the News Republic app I did a few days ago. This one is called Appy Geek.
might be time to make vids of newer apps n stuff. like overskreen, stickit, etc...more hardcore apps that'll gain interest. also, how come you just don't organize all your videos into the OP? instead of being spread throughout the thread where posts integrate with them and vids will be lost in the pages.
just a tip. good work regardless

[Q] HP TouchPad advice for my Grandmother

Hello everyone,
So like many of you I picked up an HP TouchPad when they were on sale. I gave the TouchPad to my Grandma. I figured it would be worth it alone for just using it as an interactive photo frame. With 32GB of space to spare I even put some QuickTime videos converted from home video VHS tapes.
While it works well for that, the organization of the Photo program on WebOS isn't the best. Viewing photos and albums isn't as simple as I thought it may be. So I started looking at some other options as far as alternative OS for the TouchPad. It looks like Android seems to be running quite well on the device (from what I've seen). So I was wondering if any of you could suggest a build / type of Android install I should attempt to use?
My needs are simple. I would like a nicer Photo Management software (if available with video playback for QuickTime / MPEG-4 files) and working Wi-Fi The ability to have multiple icons on a home screen is good. It makes it easier for her to select what she wants to do. Is there an option to make a keyboard larger? Or is there any font options to make things larger? She'll be 93 this month, and although her vision is pretty good, she can use all the help she can get.
Skype would be nice, but from what I understand camera and microphone compatibility is limited. Of course I'd like it to be as stable as possible. I haven't looked at her TouchPad in a bit, I'll see if there are any WebOS updates before continuing. But I'm curious as to what is out there to make this tablet a bit easier to use.
Thank you in advance for your help!

The CM9 builds are very stable and extremely usable. Try the nightly builds for good wifi. Also, the latest nightlies have working mic, though not camera.
There are tons of photo managers and video players on the Google Play Store; I like QuickPic for photos, but I don't watch a lot of videos.
The default homescreen has multiple icons.
There is an option for larger font in Settings -> Accessibility -> Large Text.
Several 3rd-party keyboards allow you to change the size of the keyboard. For example, I use SwiftKey, and it has 4 sizes. It is paid, though.
