This is a strange one to describe and I cannot figure out the pattern. I use a BT set all day and at the end of the night I turn it off as well as the phone BT. However I cannot hear sound (voices) from the phone or the speaker phone. This is both ways when I call out or I call myself from home to the 6800. Now I can do a reset and it all works. I also can turn the BT on after the reset then it all works. I only notice this when I am on BT all day and at the end of the day turning it all off.
Not making a big deal out of it just curious if anyone else have had this issue. I have been on different roms 3.12, 3.22 not stating at all it is an issue there....just asking to see if there is a fix.
Thx
I had this issue with the 3.27 (DCD 3.0.1) radio and my plantronics 855. I got used to resetting (something all Mogul owners are used to doing!) the phone when I disconnected BT. Since changing to the 3.42.30 (DCD 3.2.2) radio I haven't had the problem. Keep in mind that It's only been a week! I think the radio has more to do with this than the ROM.

My XDA phone seems to work just dandy...as long as it doesn't lose connection. If this happens I invariably have to switch the phone off and then on (not the whole xda) for it to pick up the signal. Sometimes when I do this it jumps up to full strength so it's certainly not signal problems.
Is there same way to force a signal search without turning the phone off? It's very annoying as I miss calls because of this assuming i'm connected when in an area with good signal (central london say - no i'm NOT in the tube!)
Thanks for any help here.
Daniel
You may want to upgrade the phone software. I used to have this problem on older RSU versions, and it disappeared somewhere along the road. 4.21 seems fine.
(The XDA will never be the phone for rural environments though. Radio reception just doesn't compare to e.g. the better Nokias..)
Thanks kindly for your reply.
ROM Version: 3.17.03 ENG
Rom Date: 05/15/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol Version: 32S54
Anything wrong there? Would it be worth reinstalling the radio stack perhaps?
Do any of you XDA pro's know if there is actually a function to force a re-scan of frequencies to find a connection? How difficult would it be to write one as I could see it being incredibly useful even for people who's phones DO reconnect themselves (After a while).
Best regards,
Daniel
Hi Daniel, I have the same problem as do 54 of my colleagues. I have just had to rollout these XDA's out to my colleagues as part of a real time
information project and all have the radio stack 4.21 installed. If the guys are in a dead phone area in excess of 30 mins, it will never find the network again until we do a POR. I guess that the firmware either has a retry limit then gives up or it is done by time then gives up. I sure would like to see if this can be resolved?
Yep, I too have the same problem!!
And it's a pain in the arse! Anyone have any ideas? I have the latest firmware, radio stack etc from o2 UK.
Any of you technical sort of people know?
What we need are two little apps...
1. An app that will run the "reconnection" process without requiring the pin number to be re-entered.
2. a "cron" type program that will run it every 30 mins.
But I'm dammed if I have a clue how to do that!! =) Techy types...heeelllppp!!!
I'm in asia and running the same 4.21 have the same problem using the 900 band but with the 1800 frequency it's ok.
I'm in Argentina (GSM 900-1900), same problem. Tried different PPC versions / Radio Stack versions. Now it is:
ROM version A.30.09 ENG
ROM date: 01/01/04
Radio version: 6.24.00
Protocol version 324e4
(Hardware model PW10B1)
I hate going somewhere and when I get there check the green light just to see if it blinks and it doesn't! And when I turn on flight mode and then off, I get a strong signal. I can't have a phone like that! Why it doesn't check for signal automatically???
A solution would be to have a program turn on the PDA with the backlight off (to keep battery life) at predefined intervals, check the signal and if it is OK turn off the phone but if it is on No Signal "tap" on the signal icon, then on Turn On Flight mode, then repeat. That would be a quick and dirty solution. I would love to implement it but I don't have the resources (you can read programming knowledge) to do it.
Kind regards,
Marton
I also have this problem (in australia) but only noticed it since upgrading to the latest firmware. Hopefully when they do their next release they correct the problem agian.
If you happen to find a revision that doesn't have this problem, please let me know!!! Thanks!!
Marton
What happens when you try to make a call after you have lost the signal, and are back in an area with signal?
I did have the same problem- every time I came out of the underground.
It would often say 'Unable to make the call' etc.
But then i found that sometimes, if I called voicemail, the phone would pause for 30 seconds, then suddenly re-aquire the signal.
This seems to work most of the time now.
When I turn it on, the signal icon starts "Searching" and the three dots go blinking endless without getting the signal. If I turn on flight mode on and off, signal comes in normally. It is very strange but it seems too many people has this problem and it's sad that there's no aparent solution
Marton
Yup. But i found making a call (e.g. to voicemail) even when it shows 'no signal' did force it to start searching for a signal, although it freezes for 30 seconds.
OK, but I have no problems with turning on and off flight mode to get the signal back to make calls. The problem is that the phone can't receive calls.....
This sux
I was kinda hoping I was the only person with this problem, or that I'd find sum1 else had the same problem & knew how 2 fix it... I just purchased a Wallaby on eBay, but am becoming EXTREMELY frustrated with the lack of reception (0-1 bars connecting to Optus PrePaid within Australia) and when it frequently loses the signal all 2gether, I have 2 reset the phone 2 get it 2 pick it up again. VERY annoying. If ne1 knows of nething that might help (I no very little about all this ROM/radio stack stuff) then please, let us know!
Hello,
How are you?
I also have this singnal problem.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
I am running radio 4.21 in France.
Does anyone know if there is a later version of the radio stack?
thanks for advice,
monza
Good day peoples... I've got a question:
Will upgrading the radio ROM affect the interference the phone causes on other electrical devices, such as PC speakers?
The reason I'm asking is because I use the newest South African ROM and my phone pretty much messes with everyone's PC speakers around me; my data connection (EDGE) is pretty much always on. My boss who is in an office behind me has forbidden me from having my phone on because he's sick of the buzzing.
I can't stand to be disconnected from the world for 8 hrs a day. I need your guys' help.
yeah, i'm dying for a solution too and preferable not a radio upgrade since i ruined my phone doing upgrades.
I doubt it will help. Prior to my AT&T 8525 I had an Audiovox SMT-5600 and it caused the same interference with speakers and such. It was not only data connections that caused the issue but incoming calls as well. Many people I know have the same problem as well with other makes and models.
I have a Hermes Cingular 8525, running radio version 1.41.00.10. I have been on this ROM/radio for over 2 months, and everything was fine. Within the last week I installed some programs and noticed my phone would "Constantly" broadcast to the cell towers. (I'm not sure how to explain that, but when you have your phone next to speakers and it makes that buzzing GSM noise. Mine does this every nearly every minute)
So is it possible one of these programs intentionally messed up my radio to constantly broadcast???
Now also at the exact same time I noticed the Cell Towers names changed from Cingular/3G Cingular to AT&T/UMTS AT&T. Is it possible that during this tower change they are causing phones to broadcast more frequently???
I don't know how this technology works, does the phone send out the broadcasts or do the cell towers request the broadcasts???
So my main concern is the battery drain, because my phone now drains overnight. I tried doing a hard reset and its still occurring. So my conclusion is its either the radio or the cell towers.
hey everyone, maybe I have a bogus phone, but I've tried multiple roms based on the 3.27 antenna, DCD's WM6 & WM6.1 versions.
Each time, after the flash (both radio and rom) it takes me over 5 minutes to get a signal (RT or EVDO). After it gets a cell signal, everything works fine including GPS. But after each soft reset, it takes me 5 minutes to get a phone signal again.
I thought it was the ROM, but after trying it with multiple versions, I am at a loss.
Any ideas?
FWIW MSL/MDN/MSID codes are intact and correct. Signal area is consistently 4 bars. Phone functions fine after getting a signal.
**SOLUTION**
1. Have MSL code ready
2. From phone app, type ##PST#
3. Click EDIT
4. Type in MSL code
5. Click VIEW INFO in bottom left corner
6. Click M.IP SETTINGS
7. Change value of MIP REGISTRATION RETRY to 1000 ms
8. Change value of MIP MODE to MOBILE IP PREFERRED****
9. Click MENU in bottom right corner
10. Click OK
11. Soft reset device
**** note, I had to adjust MIP MODE 3 times before I got it to work.
Thanks everyone!!
especially limezednem!!
no issues so far. My phone boots up super quick now since i did this wm 6.1 and radio update. Feels kind of naked but love the speed. It has frozen on me on multiple occassions when trying to uninstall certain programs but as far as phone connectivity, i have had no issues since i got it working. Connects right away.
I had the same issue. I flashed back to the original ROM and it signal was acquired in a flash. I have since swapped the phone from Verizon, but I am reluctant to re-flash, though I REALLY want the GPS functionality... please some one come up with a cure for this slow signal malady!
anyon else had this issue?

I originally had problems with the dreaded Error 67 with the new ROMs (tried everything). I went back to the stock Sprint ROM and it disappeared.
On a whim I tried the upgraded ROM again (glutton for punishment). After it rebooted I couldn't get a phone signal... I went into Connections and turned off the phone and waited a minute and then turned it on again. Got a signal in less than 10 seconds. (Error 67 are gone too... go figure!)
Try that.
I'm w/Sprint and had the same issue with radio ROM 3.27,it took about 2 minutes to get cell signal after soft reset, then the data connection got disconnected every single,i was so frustrated since i did a lot of internet radio streaming and IMing.I flashed it back to 2.17,all is working fine with the old ROM,I think i can live w/o build in GPS for now.
You might have already tried this, but if not, try flashing to DCD's 2.1.0 ROM with the 3.27 Radio. This is the one and only ROM I've ever flashed to and probably ever will flash to unless some godlike official update is released. I stuck with this because I feel it's *easily* the most stable, has fully working BT AND has GPS & Rev A enabled (network permitting).
If you haven't already, try 2.1.0.

Try programming your phone OTA, and updating your PRL.
*22803 for telus, *228 for some other carriers. Not sure what you have, but that could be your issue.
Mine did this at first, I dont know what I did to change it but it went away. Problem is, when I updated my prl to 60711 or whatever the new one is, the problem came back. I reset on my way to work and it didnt get a signal until well after I parked (15 min drive) but for some reason sitting at home it would get the signal within 2 minutes. For me it hasn't been that big of an issue since I only soft reset once a week or so. But I am scared that this will occur in a time of need. Glad to hear there are others out there who share my problem.
SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME.. i made a thread about this too....
did you get it resolved?... its really frustrating.. i flashed it flawlessly to my room mates phone... then failed on mine.. figured it was my phones fault.. got a new one... and SAME thing on the brand new phone... where am i going wrong?
all ID numbers were correct... esn, mdn, msid. etc etc.
help me please
same EXACT Thing happened to me.. with 2 phones.. however, I flashed my room mates phone flawlessly and is still working without an issue...
double post... damn computer
no luck.
sticking with 2.17 for now.
i have SORT OF the same prob............ i get signal right away but it fades in and out from evo to 1x and back ...... sometimes it can take me a half hour to finally connect a phone call because of it.
any ideas?
bump because i really would like to know why this is happening to a few select people..
maybe ill just wait for sprint to release the official rom/radio... and go from there
I went back to 1.4 radio and custels 1.1 rom, now my internet isnt working....
go figure
i have a feling it might have to do with prl's.
try ##786# reset it and then load latest prl i hope this work
I have the latest PRL, still no luck.
I have Verizon and just dial *228 and when prompted press #2 and it updates my roaming capabilities (PRL) all over the air with out having to look for PRL's over the net and manually updating them.
I don't know if Sprint has this feature but if it does try it out.
Ohh yeah i was playing with the registry and found a way to make your signal stronger ( I think ) I don't know if it realy does work but it give me higher bars
go to
HKLM -- System -- State -- Phone
There are two strings.
One is Signal Strength and Signal Strength Raw.
I change the value to 100 on both and get full bars. I dont know if it does give a real effect.
But after a little while it goes back to the original signal value

diid You do ##786# and reset phone ?
I have the sprint 7800 with 6.1 mobile and I am having an issue with my reception as well with this radio. When I make / receive phone calls I get a crackling sound. It's faint but none the less enough to be annoying whne talking on the phone for awhile. Any one else having this problem or have a solution to it? Thanks ahead of time.
I am using a Sprint Mogul with DCD 2.3.2 firmware. I can't remember what version radio, but it's the one that was released for the GPS. Everything works fairly well, except for my bluetooth. I have a motorola bluetooth hands free car kit, and when I turn on the bluetooth on my phone, it connects just fine. But if someone calls me, I have to answer it via the bluetooth. If I answer it via the phone it picks up on the phone. When I answer it with the bluetooth, it picks up sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't. the bluetooth is very tempermental. Sometimes it connects without a problem, other times I will be on the phone for a few seconds then it connects. Anyone have any issues with this? Possibly a solution?
Hard to believe that with this many users in this forum, that no one has an answer to this one. I'll keep looking for one myself.
