got it at launch, afraid of roms but plunged in last week (finally).
Now it's got:
GPS radio (thanks DCD),
mapping (via GPSgate and iguidance)
total commander
HHC (plus all appearances)
pocket esword (and NASB)
calc-lite
skyfire
keep recordin'
and about 2 gigs of music
so now what?!?
What else do you guys do with these things?
(I don't run a web server, or need to do anything of that nature)
I am looking for other awesome things this thing can do, gaming? poker? video? audio? (anyone ever figure out a remote control?) anything... guess I'm just bored with it now that it's perfect...nuthin more to tweak
Let me know if you figure out how to make an ATM spit out tons of $$$ using the infrared
now you wait until DCD comes out with a new ROM so you can reflash and start all over again! its great fun i might add.
i'm sure with every reflash new problem will arise and you will spend countless hours on the forums trying to figure them out.
plus always be on the look out for new cool apps, they seem to pop up time to time
dcd's roms
while they are awesome, once I have it done, why go for another? to get an additional 2% ram available, to make it 8% faster after a soft reset? I mean there seems to be no reason to move to another rom at this point (unless it included a gameboy emulator and 300 games or something). I guess there's nowhere to go from here, time to get a new gadget!
There is a remote control app that is suppose to be pretty good. Also there are some internet radio apps and I think Sprint has a online TV app but not sure if it works on other carriers or not. Go to Handango.com and you will find all kinds of apps.

there are lots of applications one that seems to have most of all the info and will import a GPX file is BeeLineGPS. Free for 30 days. This way you can export out geocaches on the site and import them to this app and then mark them found and I believe export your find list to check them off on the geocaching site. The have a link on geocaching about good apps to use as well.

I have several maps for Tom Tom,which i received from a friend. The problem that i am having is that whenever i connect via usb and try to use the Tom Tom Home to load the maps(Even putting them in the correct folder on the pc)It still will not show them up.Any ideas on what im doing wrong? And this version that comes with the device is (compared to the other software that is out now)kind of old in the tom tom family.Anyone with any ideas or help would be good.
Last question is that when it trys to update, via the cable connected to the pc,no matter if i try to update the phone data base to the micro drive or internal memory it tells me that the drive is read only.If i put in my memory card it will say that it cannot access the file.

Are the maps for version 6 of TomTom? versions lower than 6 will not work. If they are version 6, did your friend activate any of the maps from the package he purchased? If yes, they probably will not activate on your pda unless you call TomTom and have them switch the activation from your old pda( your friends) to your new pda...But that would not cause the problem of transfering them to your device. Did you upgrade your version of TomTom home? they have had several upgrades to the home app. Man, I hate that Home app. It was much easier just copying the maps to your sdcard or microdrive.
I have tom tom home on the pc .but they said you should have it on the phone as well, but its not there, ony tom tom.and i dont know what version the maps are

Tom-Tom on the Ameo with all the maps of western europe loaded runs like a dog.
Pop along to your nearest torrent site and find iGO, load up and give it a try - it's much better than Tom-Tom (only IMHO), the maps load and scroll quicker and it is just more visually pleasing.
Make sure you have Bluetooth Explorer UNTICKED. Reset your device and it should find the maps.

I should have checked first before posting - yeah, unfortunately they only do Europe at the moment. They are expanding though, and because they use Tele-Atlas maps it shouldn't be too long before they do USA & Canada.
Another good thing about iGo is that you don't have to have a PC installer. You just copy to SD/MD and run.

No problem, I used TomTom Mobile in all it's different guises over the years and then a friend suggested iGo. I took TomTom off after only 1 trip with iGo. The only problem I've found so far is that it can't find Pizza Hut in Monchengladbach!

Cut tomtom maps?
Is it possible to cut tomtom navigator 6 maps? I have the USA and Canada maps which take 1GB. I don't want to store all of this on my 2GB miniSD card (I need space for music and stuff), especially since I only need maps of California. I know, one solution is to carry another card, but I don't want to do that. I have tried that and it's really annoying having to switch cards all the time.

UPDATE
Second Release
Right, you need to download the website and the application. Both of which i have now attached to this thread.
Follow the same process you did with the initial release, however, DO NOT edit the config file. There is now a tab in the app for this, please use this instead.
Also, there is now a log file if something goes wrong. It is called 2me2u_logfile.log and will be created in the same folder as the executable.
Initial Release: http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk/blo...sending-smss-via-your-mobile-using-interwebs/
Evening guys,
I don't know about you, but i'm tired of texting from my whone when i'm at my desk. It's a long process and makes it look like i'm not busy at my desk, especially if i'm having a bit of a discussion with friends.
So i decided to write an app that sits on the phone, waiting for SMS's to be sent. You login to a web portal (which the app also logs into) and create your SMS there (as many as you wish) and when the app checks (every 1s to 300s) it'll download the messages you want to send, then send them. With a delivery report if you so wish.
Also looking for more features to add in once released, for example, SMSing you where your phone is, if you've lost it. Using the GPS.
It's still early, but that app is nearly programmatically complete. It's not very pretty, nor is the website. Hoping to get time this week to tidy it all up and get a test release out.
Watch this space Not even sure if this sort of app will be popular!
Will also be posting release information to my blog, http://www.spikedsoftware.co.uk

Not sure if this app will be popular!! Who are you kidding?
They charge a lot for this kind of thing, so it isn't cheap. If you want free hosting, let me know - I am not sure what methods you will be using for this, but as long as you know how to create the site, I can host it.
Thanks for the offer, for the moment i have hosting sorted however
Do you have the urls to the competitors?
Cheers,
Dean
Sounds good, but how will this differ from, say, mIQ? That allows you to send and receive SMSs via the web.
Huh... didn't actually see that on the web there.
Safe to say it's far more advanced that my application would be anytime soon. The only difference would be my remote GPS finder and that i had a plan to develop an app for Android.
Not much point now.
Thanks for finding that before i got too far into development!
sounds great, looking forward to it
Other than remote GPS finder, will there be any other special features?
Looks like i won't be continuing, mIQ already have the app i'm creating!
Well don't lose interest just yet. A dedicated solution just for that task, especially one I could host on say my own website would be a much preferred solution for me than yet another social site having access to all my information.
Its a cool idea, but I could see how people would be concerned with privacy. My text messages aren't always PG nor are the discussions always "legal". I personally don't concern myself with privacy anyhow.
Right now I just run MyMobiler and tether the phone to my PC and use the phone GUI with my keyboard. This app/service WOULD be very helpful for people with ridiculously strict IT departments and people who don't use Windows OS on their workstations. I'll definitely check it out when released. Sounds cool.

+1, a server that YOU choose would be fairly better than having to use a common service that would store our data...
The webserver could be our pc, or why not, getting a way to get it working throught a php script that could be hosted on any host we want to
Just my opinion...
[APP - Release] Send SMS from your PC, RELEASED.
Well, you guys are on the exact train i am.
Basically, i was going to host it on my site, and if people were interested, then open it up for registration etc. However, you're right, Privacy was a worry and i'm not sure i like my information being held by someone else, i only just allowe Facebook to.
So, i'll continue, get it polished up, then release a package that people can deploy wherever the hell they want
Hopefully this weekend some time, i would imagine? Busy all week
Cheers guys!
thats the spirit man.. just checked out that other software.. exactly the sort of thing i DIDN'T want.. uninstalled it within 5mins of messing around.
Looking forward to your solution! sounds much more like the sort of thing I would be interested in (and many more im sure)

Because you need to be able to get to your phone, i.e. ActiveSync or via WiFi.
I don't know about you, but at my place of work, we don't have any drivers installed on the machines to allow us to use USB Devices, other than the keyboard and mouse. And we don't have WiFi that will get us onto the main network. So that option would be out.
Sounds really cool, I'd definitely use it. Right now I just use MyMobiler and just type with my pc keyboard on my phone under the keyboard on ABC. Works fine for me now, but my phone needs to be plugged in if I want to use it.
Hey all,
Thanks for the support, very early release can be found here.
Please can you all try it, let me know how you get on. It's very simple, but it does the trick.
Cheers,

Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how many people know this, but as long as you know that format for a carrier you can actually send a message via e-mail to a person's phone as a text.
For Sprint it's <10 digit number>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
for AT&T it's <10 digit number>@txt.att.net and to send MMS to ATT it's @mms.att.net
I have a list of HUNDREDS of the formats somewhere I will post if you all want.
Could you? Would be interesting. Thanks.
Any tried it yet? I've had alot of views and no feedback?
Have copied Navipanel shortcut to start menu but when activated will only connect to Co pilot. Is there any tweak to coonect this to Tomtom navigator which I have installed.
It would be great if this is possible. Thanks in advance
mmine connects to telenav.. asked the same thing with no answer... i don't believe there is a way... just a scheme to make you use the gps app that came with the phone....... unless someone can prove me otherwise
Using Telenav and have absolutely no problem with it. What makes it better is that I have not paid a penny for it yet. Can't beat free, plus it works just fine.

Hi,
where did you get the Telenav free from? I can do with a satnav.
Thanks
I just use the one that is pre-installed on the phone. Bear in mind that its probably because I reset my phone a lot . I install stuff and if it creates a hitch or a bug on my phone I reset it.
I can't remember exactly, but there's a registry and icon tweak that you have to do for it to work for any other GPS program, but it wont work the same way as when you click on Address or Home and have TomTom installed. Usually, since it comes with either CoPilot or TeleNav it is coded so it performs that action when you click it on Navipanel (Example: Click Home on Navipanel and it'll open CoPilot and automatically enter your Home address and all you have to do is press "Go"). The registry and cfg file hacks can help, but you're gonna have to search for those because I can't recall from memory.
As for the "free" Telenav, it's only a trial period. Meaning after 30 days it's gone. Unless you hard reset and enter new username or whatever information it asks for you won't be able to continue using it free. No such thing as "free" with Telenav since you have to connect to their servers to use their program (which is complete bull**** in my opinion).

Thanks for that it worked a treat with TomTom Navigator
You can get Telenav for free if you have Sprint, otherwise you can get a 30 day free trial from the website, telenav.com
Paying for it is worth it though, it's a nice app.
^ perhaps if it was a once time payment.. THEN i can probably justify that purchase... BUT it's a monthly subscription to something that i can get for free... totally ridiculous.. i hate how i can't use navipanel just because they have it locked to avoid using another gps software on it.. crap

It appears to want the trial CoPilot folder installed. If you have flashed, and therefore lost CoPilot, can it be rebuilt with an empty folder structure? If so, what should it have ?
I've been trying to find a nav app that will let me import pre-planned trips.
In my research I found only two; 1) copilot, 2) HTC Locations with Trips tab.
Well I can't stand #1, and it seems that #2 was only available in Asia, unless I'm missing something? it seems like a feature that should be standard as it has since the first days of dedicated gps devices but it still hasn't arrived on Android, not even in the Google suite of apps despite the constant posts in the Google forums requesting this function.
being able to create a specific route or record a route for the purpose of sharing and reuse I don't think is a lot to ask.
until this happens their will always be a market for a dedicated GPS.

that looks like a perfect companion to my Colorado GPS! I tracked our whole summer holiday with it, but it's be great to be able to see that track on a mobile device (that's a bit larger than that 2-something inch screen that my Colorado has )
There is an app I use quite a bit on Windows called Clock Stopper. All it does is freeze the computer's clock so apps and such are all dated at the same time when installed. It would be awesome if something like this was available for Android.
Why? Because I like to try LOTS of new apps. It would be easier to freeze the clock at a certain date & time, install the apps, create a backup, etc. It makes it easier for me to remember when and what I did.
Also some apps have time restraints on them when I want to use them longer before I decide to buy them.
Strange concept...
Strange concept. I don't quite get how this works and why you will need it. Mind giving more information? Is there anything I can read up online about this?

Some trial application, let users evaluate their FULL product for a certain days.
For example :
I downloaded an application and it lets me evaluate their product for 7 days.
If I stop the time on my phone, the app will allow me to use it for unlimited numbers of days.
I doubt such app will be helpful for many people.
Android developer usually use limited functionality or advertisement in free apps.
It's mainly for reasons I and frenzyboi listed.
Attached is the Windows version. Extract the files directly to C: and copy/paste the shortcut "Clock Stopper 1.0b" to your desktop then run as admin if using Windows 7 or Vista. The program runs from a folder so there is no installation needed.

Some trial application, let users evaluate their FULL product for a certain days.
For example :
I downloaded an application and it lets me evaluate their product for 7 days.
If I stop the time on my phone, the app will allow me to use it for unlimited numbers of days.

It isn't piracy at all! Piracy is when you use paid things without paying for them. Trial software is usually limited not only in time but in features.
Would be great
I would have a great use for something like this. My son changed the password on his tablet for the parental lock. Now the tablet is only able to be used for 3 hours per day. It has been this way for over 3 years. I tried to do a factory reset, but I think the parental lock won't let this happen. It just reboots. I also tried several rooting procedures, but that didn't work either.
