Hello, greetings all
Want to ask of my confusing problem, i had Dopod 838 Pro always freeze when used as modem (using Internet Sharing). My past experience with shipped ROM was normal, but after using cooked ROM (schap's, CRC, PDAViet) and upgrading Radio to 1.47.30.10 and then to 1.56.70.11, problem came true
By PIE, it goes normally, just always as PC modem always freeze. I had to did soft reset to get my system back.
Hope for enlighment...
Thank You
Adding info, it's happen both on 2G and 3G network, i'm suspecting fault on radio ROM, but why it's normal when using PPC itself, but not with PC (as modem)
Yesterday i fall back to my default WM6 shipped ROM, but problem still exist. I used both shipped ROM with radio 1.47.0.0.1 and the latest 1.47.30.10.
Don't know why, could it be my hardware? Or my laptop?
Oh, i forgot to asked, whenever we use Internet Sharing, do we had to uncheck "allow USB" check box on activesync? I want to know wether i do all the procedure right?
Please help
Hi...with usb Internet Sharing you do uncheck "allow USB" check box on activesync. I use internet sharing all the time, but never had a freeze...

Thanks Galaxys, Yes lately i do uncheck allow USB checkbox. I use pure shipped ROM (radio 1.47.0.10), but it still freezing some minutes ahead, after opening several pages.
I'm wonderring is all these radio ROM 1.47.30.10 and 1.56.70.11 are suitable be used on Indonesian? Here in Indonesia using standard GSM band (900, 1800) and WCDMA/3G band (2100).
Oh No, problem got worse
Now whenever i try to connecting via Internet Sharing, it always failed, it used to be the LED lit orange, now the LED was just blinking (means it's disconnected from PC) and on Internet sharing windows, it said check USB connection...arrrrrghhhh
When i click disconnect, then all comes normally, Hermes well synchronized.
I just hope it was an USB cable problem, not my beloved Hermes
Any clue for my problems?
Thanks for Your attentions
sounds like a cable...so try another cable to find out your issue. regards

Hello,
a friend of mine got his new Qtek 8500. He first installed the latest ActiveSync 4.2, then connected the Qtek with the provided cable to his notebook. Charging started, as expected.
However, nothing else happens. Device Manager can't find anything new, of course ActiveSync does not find the phone.
Tried already different USB ports, still the same. Charging yes, ActiveSync no.
Am I missing something? Like enabling USB on the phone?
8500 - not recognized
I had the same issue and was able to correct it by downloading and installng ActiveSync 4.5 Beta - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/default.mspx
Hope that works for you also

Make sure all your firewall are off as well...
Try to turn off Spyware and Antivirus programs. It helped for me
A problem - activesync and qtek 8500
Yesterday I got my qtek. I immediately wanted to synch all my contacts, it didn't work however. The phone established only a guest relationship. Reinstall didn't help at all, neiter did a hard reset.
After about 4 hours of looking for a solution I finally found it. Its not mine but taken from
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/t-shootactivesync.htm
- really wonderful guide to active sync problems.
The solution: (a quote)
"Check and see of the registration key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services and see whether a key named GuestOnly has a value of 1. If it does then change the value to 0 to allow you to setup a partnership."
after that - just one mean digit, it simply worked.
hope it helps anybody in any way
All,
My Hermes is able to charge via USB on the usb port of my pc, but the hermes is not seen by activesync. I tried soft aswell as hard reset, but nothing seems to cure the USB syncing....
Any suggestions?
Cheers
You may check in your desktop PC if ActiveSync got "Allow USB connections" checked. It's in File -> Communications.

Oh, so it seems to be an Hermes problem (or maybe an USB cable problem)... If it's not solved with the hard Reset it may be an hardware issue . I hope that somebody can help you better.
active sync
did you by any chance did a backup restore?
i had once or twice the same problem.
if so try another time to restore it or else with an older backup

Nope, no backup resores.....
try going to Start>Settings>Connections "USB to PC" and either check or uncheck the box
Same problem happen to my friend's dopod last a few week. I found out that activesync application was gone. Why not try to check your program folder, whether activesync shortcut still there or valid.
So I decide to reflash the roms. After that everything back to normal.
I had the same problem, what i did was to uninstall Activesync, then Reboot, Re-install ActiveSync.
It work after that.
Cheers.

I've had this problem numerous times, but i think i stumbled upon a fix/workaround. Its seems lately within the past month my 8525 has been flawlessly connecting to activesync after i did a hard reset and installed the ext rom software manually, one by one. I left out all of the cingular custom crap, and its been good so far! Before this i used to all always get a dropped AS connection but it would still be charging, or my phone wouldnt sync upon the 1st connection, and i would have to unplug and plug again!

I'm currently only syncing via bluetooth, works excellent!
I'll try the hard reset some other time.
But thanks anyway!
oh yeah, bluetooth syncing always worked for me as well!
Firewallsoftware stops ActiveSync
ActiveSync 4.1 and up is IP-based instead of the standard USB-protocol. Some Firewall-software block any IP-based communication. If you're affected update your firewall-rules to allow ActiveSync to pass.
I had this today - my T-Mobile MDA Vario II would not sync with either home or work pc. It just kept saying "usb device attatched to this computer has malfunctioned"
I phoned tmobile, who told me to take out the battery and that they would send a reset signal to my phone. I took the battery out, put it back in, powered up, got a txt from t-mobile to say the reset had happened, plugged the usb cable back in and it synced properly right away.
Might be worth calling your provider see if the same works for you?
Dear All,
after plug my startrek to usb activesync starts and identified it and the local network connected but after seconds it disconnect from the activesync.
i'd search all the net for a solution but not finding any.
mabey the drivers?
anybody could give me the drivers for the activesync 4.5 on starttrek
thanks alot
Maddening, I just went through the same thing. Drill down into Microsoft's site, there's some additional info on reconfiguring your usb port, it was just a button, on/off kind of thing so if it's X try Y and vice versa. That solved it for me, sorry I can't be more specific but I didn't write anything down. I did get the initial link from the activesync trouble shooter however.
in my case my firewall (zone labs) was the cause.
thanks alot for replay
i've went through all the microsofts' but nothing, it still connect and disconnect.
thier is somthing else.
the below site may help others have same problem.

I suggest you do a hard reset without any extra installed and check whether you are able to connect to wifi and WLM.
If still failed, most likely is your hardware problem.
Tried it aswell, even installed it on my 02 atom stll had the same problem then
Live messenger
Here's what I did to get it going, if this helps.
Turn on WIFI, make sure you found a router and that you are connected, check with your browser to ensure data flow.
Click on the Windows Live Icon, not the Windows Live Messenger.
Once you got Windows Live running, start Live messenger and it should work
At first, I was clicking on the Live Messenger login and it never worked, it seems once you got Windows Live running once, it solves the problem.
From here on, I can start it directly after connecting to a WIFI without having to click on Windows Live before, kinda like a one time setup thing, maybe it writes something to the registry, go figure, it's Microshaft right?
Hope this helps.
start/settings/connections/network cards/
tap the network adapters tab.
in " my network card connects to:"
make sure you got " The internet" selected.
if you got "work" change it and reboot the device.
hope it helps.
failling that it means tha wlive is not properlly installed. maybe missing some reg keys.
Howdy,
I have a 'jasjam' and am presently running WM6 Black. I decided today that I would upgrade to the new HTC ROM but almost every time I connect my phone to the PC here (Win XP) I get 'USB Device Not Recognized' on the occasion it does work, once the phone goes into the boatload when I try to upgrade (Hard SPL) I get 'A device attached to the computer has malfunctioned.' or something along those lines.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Ben.
Bump...
The phone seems to initially recognized (XP installs driver for HTC USB Sync), but after a little while the charge light will turn off and the phone will not be seen. After reconnecting it it becomes an 'Unknown USB device' again.
I'm running Schap's 3.54c.
Hopefully someone's encountered this problem before.
Ben.
Managed to upgrade with SD card, which indicently I felt was rather an improved process over upgrading via USB.
In any case I'm still having no luck getting the USB connection to function even now with the new HTC rom.
I've tried various things including cycling 'advanted networking features' under the USB connection properties (I saw this mentioned in another thread).
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Ben.
Try a different usb cable...they have been known to go bad.

I got the same thing with my hermes...i think its a hardware issue. Do you have issues with slow bootup, lost BT etc?
do a system restore on your machine. select the time before you did your last flash. my pc at work does the same thing, system restore usually fixes it.

That's a good idea, that's worked before for me also.
Another option, if you can find the phone under 'Device Manager' on your PC, is to remove it.
And then when you plug your phone back in to your PC it recognizes 'New Hardware' and reinstalls it.
Sometimes that works.
It's happening also for me from time to time.
- A restart of both machines sometimes helps.
- good usb cable is needed (I had a retractable and it was almost never syncing).
- reinstall activesync + delete partenrship on both tel & pc is the last thing you could try...
Still it happens to me sometimes.
PS1: I was almost never able to sync via usb cable when not connected to the Company Lan.
PS2: I found a Mobile Checkpoint VPN client was also "disturbing".
