PLEASE help a Noob! - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I have a VZW XV6800. Getting a replacement device so I decided to practice flashing a new radio/ ROM. Last night was my first time! lol and I was up until 4am trying to follow the guide. I was flashing wby USB. What seem like pretty straight forward directions had me baffled. I ended up with a updated radio and a sprint rom.
I understand the order to be
unlock
update radio
update rom
install carrier CAB
I couldn't find the compatable Radio without the Sprint ROM. So I flashed that and then Flashed dcd Titan 3.2.5 ROM and installed vzw cab. Got the phone to work but could'nt get the data to work. Also I noticed that my phone had switched to 1x instead of EV.
PLEASE help! I have my new phone and want to flash correctly this time. I also have to flash my old phone back to stock before I return it. I swear im not retarded! I only hope its easier the second time.

If you are new to this, and don't wanna brick your phone, then install these in this order...(HardSPL rom, Radio rom, Phone rom, Carrier cab)
1.Here is the HardSPL ROM:
http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/spl/titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe
2. Here is the radio rom:
http://lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/radios/Titan%20Radio%20ROM%203.42.50.rar
3. Here is the phone rom:
http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/roms/dcd_titan_3.2.5.exe
4. Here are the carrier cabs:
http://lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/carriers/
Do all that, from the beginning, and you will be fine. (Also, showing 1X or EV will depend on your location)

After flashing, if you have no data you need to call verizon, tell them you hard reset your phone and data does not work. Request they reset your data services. If you get the message "Not authorized" while trying to make a call.. you need an AKey Reset.
To avoid this:
While you still have your old phone.....
1) Log into your verizon account... switch activation to your old phone.
2) Flash your new phone following the instructions already posted.
3) When you are finished, switch activation back to the new phone.
This should reset your Akey and data services so you dont need to call verizon to get them to work... As long as you have two phones, you can switch back and forth.
On my last replacement I kept the old phone for about 45 days.. was starting to wonder if I actually needed to send it back
Also when you post, put a real description of your issue in the title.. you'll get more reads and replies that way.

Thank you both! I plan on having time to flash Saturday. I will let you know how it goes. BTW are there any tips or tricks to getting a faster connection from my vzw aircard?

Once they give you an A-Key to manually type in, you will never need another one.
I have flashed my phone 100 times since I got my first A-Key, ane never had to call them back or do that activation-switch trick. My unlimited data works 100% on first boot after a rom and radio flash everytime.

sorry, dont use a vzw aircard, just have unlimited data plan, which gets me over DSL/Cable speeds...I am fine with that.

Data Issues with IOTA on Verizon

Hi all.
with the 6800-
I flash nexvisions rom and the new radio. After reading ppcgeeks tutorial, I thought I needed to run IOTA.cab to get my data settings even though I'm on Verizon. Well, after doing a *228 and calling verizion to get my calls to go though, my data is now screwing up.
The problem is- when I run internet explorer (with google mobile as my homepage) it chokes after about 50 K downloaded and wont finish. The data connection is lousy. If I try to close out my data connection using the connection manager it comes up with a warning about IOTA data errors.
Now I know that vzw users do not need IOTA. Is there a way to reset what IOTA does to your data connection settings without doing a hard reset? I can't find a 'unintstall' IOTA.cab anywhere.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cook ROM as Verizon, not Sprint?
Maybe just run the ROM again
I can not think of a good way to get it all out but maybe someone has an idea. I am on VZW and it worked perfectly.
You should reflash.
Perhaps you shouldn't use Nexvision's ROM since it obviously has Sprint "parts" in it that seem to be interfering.
Here is what worked and is still working very well for me. I have no data or voice issues at all right now:

In fact, all is well.
I flashed back to the stock VZW ROM (third time I think), I made sure all of my provisioning issues with Verizon were worked out (finally had the tech "kick the switch").
1) Then I proceeded to load the 2.4 bootloader,
2) then the 3.16 Unauthorized Sprint ROM w/ radio,
3) then finally installed a cooked DCD 2.3.2 ROM.
Things to note:
1) I never let the Sprint ROM boot up (this is VERY important!!)
2) I had no signal so ran *22802 then hit End as soon as it connected
3) Still no signal after reboot
4) No A key, MSID, or MDN issues, but I did re-enter the MSID and MDN as discussed in other threads
5) After re-entering MSID and MDN then after reboot I had signal (even though they are there and correct, type re-enter the information anyway)
6) never had to run *228 to OTA program (in the past programming with *228 has reversed the effect of re-entering the MSID and MDN)
In general, I feel that the OTA from VZW sends down some programming that conflicts with the 3.27 radio...but I have nothing to prove that.
GPS is running great (I just loaded the AstroGPSLauncher)
Not sure about Rev A. It does seem snappy. What's a good site to test from the phone?
I'm happy and not re-flashing until a solid radio for Verizon arrives.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
First- I'll try a hard reset first and see if that clears it up.
Then if that doesn't work, I'll try reflashing nexvisions rom and see if that clears it up.
If that doesn't work, I'll reflash trying the dcd rom.

If that doesn't work, you should do like I did and start with a clean slate. All the reflashing of ROMs and radios did me no good. Whatever issues I had were not going away with just another flash from one ROM to another.
Hard resetting fix everything.

Hello everyone! I have searched a lot and after about 6 flashes back to stock and retrying I can't seem to get this to work.. Please I have searched a lot and I am just frustrated now. Among other possible problems, you definitely applied the wrong radio. v3.27 of the CDMA radio from February was only intended for builds off of a very early and leaked pre-release Sprint testing ROM.
Where did you get informatino to flash to that radio version?

dcd 3.2.2 rom causes WIFI and data network to not work ??

ever since I installed the rom, my wifi stopped catching signals completely. now I just added the data plan on my phone, and the data isnt working either. Any idea what the problem could be?
EDIT: ALSO I have a verizon phone, yet when I soft reset, Alltell shows up instead of the Verizon Logo. Maybe this has something to do with it
fix
What radio are you using?
Have you tried hard resetting and skipping the customizations? I don't see why Alltel would be displayed if you did a fresh ROM flash, as there is nothing associated with AllTel unless you installed the wrong CAB.
Best bet would be: Go to the Radio 3.40.30 thread, download the Unlocker for Olipro 1.2 and most recent Radio...flash the Unlocker, let it get into Boot Loader mode, then flash the Radio. Then it will boot up again, and flash your phone with Olipro 2.4, then flash the 3.2.3 DCD rom. Install carrier cab, and the Arcsoft one if you need it....then you're done.
The data connection may be another story...but I'd first get the ROM up and going, with the ability to make phone calls / send texts.

Actually that's the funny part, I CAN make calls and texts. I didn't brick my phone or anything, GPS works fine too. The only problem is the WIFI and data connection - should I still go ahead and try that new rom?
problem
I would definitely suggest the whole procedure, from Radio flash and then further to the ROM reflash.
If after you've done all those things, and your WiFi is jacked, at least in my mind, the things probably broken.
Data connection could just be a matter of password being incorrect, or needing a DMU reset. See if you can do the flash to get the WiFI working first.

Do you have aim/msn or something? I updated to DCD 3.2.3 and the wifi works great now. But the data network keeps saying I have the wrong username and password. I even called up verizon for that and they dont know what the problem is. I bet it's incredible simple :/ What is a DMU reset????
Thanks a bunch in advance
EDIT: Also my phone is RIDDLED with alltel settings when it should be verizon, even AFTER all these updates!! I went into the EPST and a bunch of things had alltel. need help fast :/

Ok pm'ed you back! let me know if you get my email, if not i'll just post it here
I've upgraded and changed to:
NueRom v2.2
Chose Verizon, checked the EPST. Everything looked fine, but the m.IP Default Profile is still [email protected].
I was able to get an A-Key (and a password???) from the rep. The A-Key is pretty long.. does that sound about right? Anyway DATA still doesn't work. Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm trying to get this up and running as soon as possible

question about installing new update

Okay okay, I know the new update breaks gps and if you flash back data doesn't work... That happened to me, and Verizon just gave me a new phone because I said data all of a sudden stopped working. I now have a brand new 6800 with nothing on it yet. But of course I want GPS again. So my question is will this work:
1. Install Spring 3.56 Rom, do not let customizations run.
2. Install new Verizon Rom, again do NOT let customizations run.
3. Install 3.42 Radio.
Will this allow me to get gps and not mess up my data connection?
Thanks guys.
PS. If you do flash new VZ rom and realize you hate it like everyone else, and you flash back to Old Stock VZ, you know your data is screwed. GC gave great instructions on how to restore data, but those options dont work for everyone, such as me, as I do not have other phones to activate. So you should restore stock Rom, and make sure everything is clean, then go to VZ Store with a tech center and explain your data stopped working all of a sudden. They replaced my mogul with a brand new one with old vz rom. Hope this helps. Thanks for the responses guys.
Yes that should allow you to use the GPS, though you'll have to apply the Titan GPS Fix with QPST.
As far as the data goes....if you never update the PRI in the first place, your data will not be lost. The only way the data gets screwed is if you update to the new VZW rom, let the customizations run, then try and go back to the old PRI.
thanks, meant to put in there flash custom rom after VZ rom update, but it should still be the same. thanks again

WHAT! THEY GAVE U A BRAND NEW ONE!
That is the first I've ever heard of this... they usually ONLY give out refurbs and, in my experience, they NEVER have them in stock in the store... You got lucky, my friend.

Bad GPS chip on refurb? Ephem but no lock

For those who know me, I have flashed a zillion times and am no rookie. I want to verify that this GPS chip is toast before sending in the replacement phone to get another and want to make sure I am not missing something simple.
FYI here are the steps I did:
updated BL to 2.40, updated radio to 3.42.50, updated ROM to 3.2.6, did GC aGPS tutorial (QPST, location/GPS settings, cab), ephemeris data streams but no lock (using HTC GPS tool).
Rolled back to stock, started from scratch above and verified QPST persisted, still no lock but I am getting ephemeris data to start but it never has anything exciting showing, just empty lines after hours of running (see screenshot).
Any thoughts or do I send it back? This is the first time this has happened after receiving several xv6800s where it never locks. There is a white dot so I can use that as an excuse to get a new one sent.
Did the phone come with MR1 or MR2 on it? I've read you need to flash an older stock ROM before upgrading to have working GPS if it came with that.

That's new to me. Most of my previous replacements were pre MR1 and MR2. I will work on it and repost.
If anyone else has any thoughts let me know.
He's right. If you flashed to a ROM from MR1 or MR2, the aGPS fix doesn't work.
You have to flash back to a stock ROM, then flash to the custom ROM again. Once that's done, it'll work.
I made this mistake the first time I flashed a phone.
after you go back to a stock 6.0 rom make sure you go back and do the GC gps fix again
steps
roll back to 6.0 stock
install Custom ROM (dcd,Reloded)
GC fix again

Does this mean BL relocker 1.04 (see here) then 2.09.605.8 (Radio 1.30.00) for me on Verizon?
Why are there no tutorials or notes for GC? He is usually pretty good at that kind of thing.
I just received a refurb which has MR2 as well, so I'm going to have to do the same thing.
I'm going to use the Re-locker
Flash back to stock
Use NueSPL 2.47
Flash a Rom
Do DCD aGPS fix
See if it works
Now to go and find Stock Verizon Rom...
Ok, so the stock rom is in the Wiki. I really don't want to call Vzw for a new a-Key though....
hmm...does the gpsserver.cab work without doing the aGPS fix?
ok, the gpsserver.cab does no good, so I was forced to downgrade.
The good news is I now have aGPS back on the phone! The bad news is my aKey is wrong, and I need it reset by Verizon. So after calling customer support apparently they only offer in person customer support until 11pm
So I will have to call in tomo and get it reset. The good thing is, data works fine....
I tried to use the new *228 and option 3, but since I didn't switch phones a new aKey was not set. Oh well, no worries....

MrTek, please post your exact steps (if they are different from your prior post) and maybe we can update the wiki with the new instructions.
Do you mean that you needed to downgrade to stock vzw 6.0 because gpsserver.cab didn't work?
If anyone else wants to pitch in and help write the instrux, feel free.
If you start with MR1 and go custom the gps is locked by Verizon. You first must relock the phone and downgrade to a pregps Verizon rom. Then unlock phone and flash gps radio and custom rom. Then apply agps fix.
I did the steps in the Wiki as they are, so I don't think they need to change.
When I said the gpsserver.cab didn't work, I meant that it didn't work on a custom rom after I applied the QPST info. I didn't expect it to work, but it was just an idea to keep me from having to truely downgrade the radio.
The exact steps were:
1 - Use Nue's Re-locker to get back to SPL 2.07
2 - Use a SDcard to flash back to Stock VZW rom, reboot
3 - Use SDcard to flash latest Titan Radio
4 - Use RUUupdate to load your choice of custom ROM,reboot
5 - Use QPST to set aGPS ip settings in config
6 - install the aGPS.cab settings
7 - GPS works as expected now
8 - Call VZW to reset my Akey
9 - Phone is fully functional, with aGPS working correctly
I believe there should be a step between 2 and 3 to change bootloader to nue 2.47, right?
Otherwise this is great.

That is correct after the stock rom install you need to unlock the phone with 2.47
So here is updated with links, I will put in main forum to make it easier for people who are searching with a better thread title.
1 - Use Nue's Re-locker to get back to SPL 2.07
2 - Use a SDcard to flash back to Stock VZW 6.0 rom, reboot
3 - Use nueSPL-2.47 to update bootloader
4 - Use SDcard to flash latest Titan Radio
5 - Use RUUupdate to load your choice of custom ROM,reboot
6 - Use QPST to set aGPS ip settings in config (use GC tutorial)
7 - install the aGPS.cab
8 - GPS works as expected now
9 - Call VZW to reset my Akey
10 - Phone is fully functional, with aGPS working correctly
Oops, I missed that in the list, sorry. yes, I had used nueSPL 2.47
I just flashed the the 6.5 B2, and everything works great so far...
Just got my refurb (2nd one cause first replacement had a white dot out of the box) and followed the steps and my phone is better than ever. Thanks again for your help guys.
Actually, what might be a good recommendation is to Do the unlock, and Flash BEFORE you switch to the refurb phone.
When you receive your refurb, you dial #228 on the refurb phone, and choose option #3. This walks you through moving your service to this new phone.
During the process, a new A key is also set I believe, so if you unlock and flash before you do the process you won't need to call VZW for the aKey.

Or if you have not yet sent back the other device , login to the website at verizonwireless.com and activate your old phone again. Wait 10 minutes, activate the new phone.. and the Akey should be fine.
Verizon will update your phone 24 hours a day. If you listen to the message on their 800 number "If you cannot make phone calls from your phone, please press" and you can get customer service after hours.
I've done it two times by screwing with my phone late at night.
