So I think I already know the answer but I thought I would get some opinions before I break the news to one of my clients.
One of my clients got a new Mogul and connected it to his computer. He was using active sync 4.5 which he just downloaded and outlook connected to an exchange server. Sprint just transferred 400+ contacts from a Nextel phone to his Mogul and when he ran active sync it wiped all the contacts off the phone. He has no backup, the contacts are already wiped off the other phone and there is nothing on the sim from the Nextel phone. I told the client to check the deleted folder in outlook but since the contacts have never made into outlook I doubt there will be anything in there. Is the person SOL? I think so, what you think?
Cheers,
Mikee

Mikee I am with you on this one.....SOL...I don't know if you can access the PIM (how I am not sure...never tried it as I have about 8 backups for contacts) which may be able to help him....but he still would have to manually add them one by one....

Hi,
Sorry for the newbie question.
I have a Touch HD/Blackstone, currently with about 200 phone contacts in it, I don't sync the phone contacts with outlook as I don't want the ( literally) 1000's of old/rubbish/wrong contacts that I have in outlook cluttering up my phone contacts list.
I do have agoogle account linked to my outlook, so the calender apointments have synced to the phone fine.
Question is, how do I simply port my contacts in my blackstone to the hero?
I'm sure it's simple, but I can't figure it out...
Clock is ticking, My number ports over to the hero Tuesday and it is my work phone (own business) so not having contacts on the phone is going to be rather disastrous! ( They are both network locked, so can't simply swap sims)
BTW, Am I right in thinking once I have my contacts over, set my email (pop3) that there is no need to plug my phone into my work PC as everything will be coming across wirelessly? ( Contacts already there, calender is sent via google wirelessly and email via pop3 account..)
Sorry to ramble and thanks in advance for any answers.
BTW... The hero is a class apart from the Blackstone, despite running all sorts of decent stuff and (IMO) the best/smoothest Rom for it ( Topix ). Won't be going back to Winmo intil windows 7 is released-and thats only if it is any good- but by then Android will be ruling the mobile world I'm sure!
perhaps this: http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
Thats great, thansk for that.
All new to me this Google stuff, didn't know that existed.

You can also use the main Active Sync application on the blackstone creating a server m.google.com with your username and password.
Make sure only contacts and calendar are ticked (as notes /tasks and email aren't supported yet) and this will work when you sync
Thanks ,
Did this last night and now have 223 contacts on the phone.
The more I use the Hero the more impressed I am!
Hi All
I currently have a Diamond and am due for an upgrade and am seriously thinking about the Hero.
I've looked around the various forums but can't seem to find the answer to my question. When changing between Win Mo Pro phones I could easily backup contacts, calender, text messages, emails etc using PPCbackup.
Is there a program that will allow a backup from WinMoPro and restore it onto the Andriod system?
I know I can backup the contacts and calender using outlook 2003 and squirt them over the Hero using the HTC Sync program but not sure about anything else? It would be very helpful to have my text messages sent on the Hero as alot of work communication is sent that way.
Help much appreciated
Ed
You send your outlook contacts to your googlemail account. google backs then all up, so as soon as you sign in (say after a wipe) they all come back to the phone as before.
There is also various backup aps as well.
can you not sync ur winmo phone to an exchange server then sync ur android one too.
also theres a app called windows mobile sms migrator. http://android.modaco.com/content/software/288916/windows-mobile-sms-migrator-beta-1/
Well if all your contacts are in Outlook the HTC sync software just simply pulls the contacts from Outlook.

My contacts and calender aren't the issue but thanks for replying, it the SMS messages I'm more concerned about.
I'll upgrade and give the modaco app a try and see how I get on.
It would of course be nice to see migration software that'll squirt everything across in one go that would indeed be a shot across the bow's for windows lol.
Thanks for the replies everyone
Ok, got the Hero (after a diamond and trinity) works nice BUT what is with the HTC Sync Thing?
Everytime it connects it udates random conacts from Outlook, so that at the moment the wife has 4 entries and some other numbers are the same yet others are fine.
ANyone else any experience and more importantly how to heck do I stop it?!
ta muchly
What? Really? HTC Sync lets you synchronize Outlook or Windows Address Book contacts on your PC with your Hero.

Just don't use it! there is nothing to say you have to use 'HTC Sync'.
I never use it as I don't want the contacts in Outlook to sync to my Hero. I just use my google contacts for this.
No there is nothing saying I HAVE to use HTC Sync however if I want to put all my contacts across in one easy go then the options seem a little limited.
Fixed it now just told it not to auto sync and that seems to have got control back to me
Glad to hear you got it sorted...
I know there are limited options when 'sync-ing' contacts to your Hero.
I used 'ExportContacts' app in the market to export all my 'old' SIM contacts into a csv file. I then exported my contacts from outlook also to a csv file which can then be imported into your Google account.
All to do then was to 'merge' all of the contacts in my Google account. This then syncs with the phone and I never bothered to use HTC Sync.
Makes sense, I dont use the google address book as I tend to keep the data useage to a minimum mainly as when at work we dont even have a phone signal, so prefer to carry everything "locally" properly, hence the much abused and hated outlook ;0
Bought a HTC HD2 yesterday and got the ms exchange set up info (servername, domain, etc) from our IT department to sync work e-mails, calendar and contacts over my 3G telstra SIM that I have used for the past 2 years with no problems.
I have stayed up to 6 AM trying to get it to sync to no avail!!!! active sync keeps trying to sync and goes into loops with no positive results...
The thing is once I connect to my home internet via wi-fi my emails start to sync without sweat!!!!
It seems that for some reason my 3G is not doing the job, or is there something I need to enable in the setting!!
I am flying to Singapore early Sunday and desperately need to get this sorted...Your help would be very appreciated if you could please guide me
Thanks
Hanney
Well, personally, I would prefer to use outlook to sync my stuff... I find it's a more pleasurable experience... Maybe you can try setting up outlook to get all your mails from your email, and from there sync?? My contacts are sync-ed through outlook too.. Anyway, I'm pretty new here, so just my 2 cents.. =) Hope this helps man...

Thanks for trying to help mate, but my problem is different.
I am trying to sync (on air) not connected to PC via 3G or GBPRS connecting to MS Exchange - This is a very normal work email set up protocol that for some rason won't work on HTC HD2.

I sync OTA with and exchange server, without issues, had to put in no special settings, have you tried removing and re-creating the setup ..
Also , try just selecting contacts to sync, see if it will sync anything ....
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me. I have a Fascinate which has worked fine up until I did a factory reset. I did this reset after picking up the Froyo update. The phone and calendar worked fine after getting Froyo, it was only after the reset that the exchange calendar stopped showing events...
I have never rooted or otherwise messed with my phone. It has picked up any available OTA updates and is running 2.2.1 and build ED04.
Here's some more info:
My corporate exchange calendar refuses to show any of my calendar events (but fortunately exchange email is fine).
I have been through multiple levels of support at both VZ and Samsung. I have also received a replacement phone from VZ (which behaves exactly the same).
No other Andriod phone hitting our exchange server seems to have this problem. I'm in our IT department so I know that all the account config settings are fine.
As I look at the timestamp for the corporate calendar it seems current but the calendar remains empty.
Both VZ and Samsung simply told me to use Touchdown as a "solution". I'd really, really like fix this and go back to using the stock calendar.
Any suggestions out there?
Welp, im just wondering all over today and i saw your question with not much of a response so i figured i'd throw in my "2 cents" as to what has solved that for a few people i work with.
First thing i'd like you to try (if you haven't already) is removing your account and creating your account again from scratch.
If that doesn't seem to fix it check and see if your calender events and such are going to your exchange moto calender...not google (Google doesnt sync with the Exchange were moto does)
All else fails, touchdown isn't the "stock" app but by standards, it's very effiecent and works just as well as the stock!
Sorry i couldn't be of more help, but i would love to know if any of my 2 suggestions above solved your problem, or if you've already done both and it still fails!
Best of Luck!
Same problem here...
On Friday, June 24th, while I was traveling on business I discovered to my horror that all of the corporate calendar items on my Samsung Fascinate suddenly disappeared and will no longer sync with my Exchange server. Almost a month and a half later, and I still can't find a solution. My corporate emails and contacts are still coming through like always, but it just won't sync the calendar anymore, even though the spinning disc beside the calendar indicates that it is. I've re-booted the phone, double-checked all of the settings, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the link to my Exchange, but always the same result: I can get my email and contacts, but not my calendar.
After all of my DIY ideas failed, I called Samsung's toll-free customer support number, and to her credit, the representative was very friendly and personable, but honestly, she was not very knowledgeable. I explained to her that my Fascinate suddenly lost all of my work calendar data and won't re-sync, even though my contacts and emails are still coming through. Her first question was what operating system I was running on my desktop at work. I told her that I'm running Microsoft XP, but I felt that it was necessary at that point to clarify that I don't sync my Fascinate to my desktop computer-- it syncs to my account on my employer's Microsoft Exchange, so my data gets pushed to my Fascinate through the Exchange server 24/7, even when my desktop computer is shut down. It took a little more explaining before she finally grasped it, but in the end, she agreed that the operating system was not relevant to my calendar sync issue. But then she asked me what version of Microsoft Outlook I'm running. Again, I was more than happy to give her the information that she requested (Outlook 2002 SP 3), but I felt compelled to explain yet again that the shell programs on my desktop doesn't matter, because my Fascinate syncs to Exchange (2003), and not to my desktop. I was respectful and patient, but unfortunately, there was simply no way to get her to comprehend that my desktop computer has nothing to do with the problem, and her parting advice before ending the call was that I must upgrade my Outlook to resolve the syncing issue. Face slap. When I told the IT director what she said, all he could do was laugh. I wish I could do the same. I'm very frustrated, because I really depend on my phone to manage my work calendar, and a few weeks ago, it worked perfectly for over six months. Like the OP says, none of the other Android/Fascinate who share my Exchange server are having syncing issues with their corporate calendars or other features.
When I went to a Verizon store, the rep listened to me, skeptically double-checked all of my settings, and then, stumped, suggested the nuclear option: reset the phone to the factory settings. I don't want to do that, for two reasons: one, it would take me days to reinstall all of my apps, data and media files, and two, I don't think that it would work anyway. According to others on the internet who have reported the same problem, even a replacement phone hasn't fixed the problem. So with that in mind, I again uninstalled my corporate account, and had the IT department delete my Exchange account as well. Later, we both re-established the account, and it still didn't work.
Finally, last night, the 2.2.2 update was pushed to my phone, and I thought, "Yes! At last, this could be the fix I've been waiting for!" But no such luck. Calendar still empty, and won't sync. I'm very disappointed. I need to access and manage my calendar while I'm on the go, so this is really affecting me. If anyone comes across the solution, PLEASE post. Thanks.
GQMoneySmooth,
I we must have been talking to the same reps at VZ. They could not get their mind around syncing directly with exchange.
I still have not found resolution to this problem either. I have even been lucky enough to have VZ replace my phone with another fascinate. Still the same problem.
I have installed Touchdown as means of getting my calendar info. It works but I HATE it.
I came really close to rooting and installing another ROM on my phone but I just don't have the time or energy to do this now. Minimally it IS functional...
Good luck and maybe someone smarter than us can figure out a way to get the native calendar working!
