a good little idea from some dude over at PPCGeeks. i used a rectangle of clear masking tape a bit bigger than the card to hold it down.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=34913
someone said it was posted here a while back, but just for anyone who is interested.
niceeee
i used double sided tape and it hold the card in gud
thanks
I don't use anything to hold the card... It stays there just fine....
I laughed when I saw the pics, then I realized the ppcgeeks post was serious! lol
Why on earth would u need to do this? Get an 8GB card, then never need another one.
Lemme guess...the card you hide in your battery cover has naughty pics/vids? lol.

Nah, that's what hidden folders are for. I carry an extra card on me in a SD/USB adapter on my keychain, but only because I carry that thing on my keychain anyway. My current 2GB is useful enough as it is.
Actually, that brings to mind the other reason for it. If you DO have an 8GB card you can't flash from it. That's where having a smaller one on-hand comes in handy.

Then we all know how to handle that ;-)

I also did the same thing to my phone the other night and found that the original micro SD card was a class 4, so what I want to know is... What class of micro SD card did you use? I changed over my SD card the other night with a class 2 16GB and found that it showed up in the boot-loader as 'unknown' type SD card and that after the hard reset, when the phone was setting up and installing apps, it was taking 4 x longer then what it was when I had the original 8GB micro SD class 4 card in it.
Let me know if this has been the same for you or anyone else that has tried this. I have ordered a class 4 16GB SD card to try soon.
Cheers
Could you just copy/paste the procedure ?!...please
Ok Here is the link
Thanks Ralf
http://wp.me/p1azFB-J -try that
As you will see I just used an old class 2 16GB card that I had lying around, I think it is a Duracell brand !!. There were no problems with booting at all, just went straight to a message saying that the menu tiles were corrupt and asking for a reset. No noticable speed difference, but I will be getting a class 4 32Gb as soon as I can find one for a decent price.
Cheers
Andy
Good job...Thanks...!!
would 32GB Class 6 work fine ? and also will this effect Updates from MS, is there any serials on SD card that have to match up or something like that ? (hope not)

But i have a question: with what did you unscrew the screws? What are the tools needed?

Hi Pipolas
For 3 of the black screws you will need to use a torx screwdriver, they are sometimes sold as "security" screwdrivers . The size you need is T6 x50. There is also 2 phillips screws which I just used a very small star pointed screwdriver for.
Hope that helps and thanks for your comments

I dont know yet about a class 6 32Gb replacement, but I am going to order one and try myself, as I beleive it will be fine. I will let you know once I get it delivered.
BYW, in terms of speed comparison, I have non-scientifically compared my 16GB class2 with my wife's standard 8GB Class 4 and the results look almost identical, in fact in some tests loading into IE etc the Class 2 phone was quicker. I need to run some games though to test properly, as they run mainly from the SD card and any real speed variance will be most apparent then.
There are no serial numbers needed, what WP7 is doing is formating the card in a special way, hence the need for the hard reset. This is shown by the fact that the 8GB card removed from the phone is not Fat32 formatted when connected to a PC and therefore does not show up. Equally when you plug your WP7 phone into the usb slot, it does not show up as a Removable Disk so you cannot simply transfer files to it like with WM6 and before. It remains to be seen if it can be reformatted to use elswhere.
Hope that helps
Cheers

eh Andy i have a little problem :
how did you manage to put the power cord into the plug that is on the metal part? because I was handling, but the only thing that stuck is the mini usb port on this phone that is attached to the hull, I can not recharge the battery.
I suppose it is inserted incorrectly because at one point I tried to connect to PC USB port for a few seconds and he got "recognized" detected "then it went away.
thank you in advance for your help

I bought a 32 gig Kingston technologies sd card still in original package. Worked for 4 days then could only be read as blank sd card. Called manufacturer, gave the numbers off card and was told out was a fake.
got it straight from a verizon store, I could hardly believe it would be a fake, if anything I'll return it
nvm, it actually reads 30 gb, I was looking at my internal storage the whole time in media link doh!
got this card for a steal too at $50.

I wonder if anyone's looked in to this? Could be huge - most of us have a dead simcard slot - I wonder if there's a way to hack in an sdcard reader to the hardware?
What dead MicroSD card slot?
Do you mean the slot that has the serial # info and has nothing to do with ab SD card?

He said dead sim card slot, not dead MicroSD card slot. The OP clearly realises the slot has nothing to do with an SD card. Seems you have misunderstood or not bothered to read it properly but nevertheless im sure the pretty much redundant piece of plastic with the serial info is something that I'm sure a lot of TP users would be prepared to sacrifice if they could mod in a card reader.
If you're going to hack anything then hack the USB port to work as a host and read away!

you would probably need to create 5v first. the touchpad I think runs off something like 3v. while I seems like a good idea to hack in a card reader,my feeling is not to.worry until you in out of memory. a better idea might be a device stuck to the back containing a extra battery and a card.reader. It would make the tablet thicker but increase battery life and provide plenty of storageas well as providing the power needed for the reader.

This would also be awesome. I think it would take a bit more for this though than an sdcard since the sdcard can operate up to 3.7v.

Well that's not near what the OP was talking about. An SD card that give you build in storage, even on the go, is much more practical than this option.
Still could be useful, but for me it not very practical.

I don't have a problem...
1. I didn't see where he asked about it... my apologies there.
2. Just pointing out the limited usefulness compared to the SD card solution.
I wasn't trying to be a jerk.
Personally I think the best solution would have been if HP would of just included an SD or MicroSD card. It drive me nuts when manufacturers mimic the apple model and give you less option and features as if that will equal success (looking at you Touchpad and GalaxyTab 10.1).
Um... Looks like the subject is just about buried in the amount of crap everyone has been piling on so far.
So back to constructive discussion... What are the advantages of having SD card in your mobile device (be it a phone or a tablet)?
I have a 16GB microSD card in my Nexus One, and I have never taken it out. I almost wish all of the flash was just integrated.
With quality of USB and network file transfer protocols I think SD is just about useless.

Very simple, I can put all my photos, videos, documents, downloads, Maps for my GPS apps on my SD card. It leaves more space on my device for apps and if and when I wipe my device I don't lose any of it. I've had time when I was having an issue with a device and had to wipe everything. Having certain files on my SDcard kept me from loosing anything. with my phone I've stored different ROM on my SDcard so I could test them out and switch between various ROM with ease.
I don't take my SDcard out either, the purpose of the SDcard isn't to move files from you computer to you phone but rather as storage.
But, I'll give you $10 for that useless 16GB microSD card.

Technically a TouchPad without hardware damage is unbrickable, USB is connected to CPU so you could always push a boot image to RAM.
You do bring up a valid issue, but some of the ways you can stop relying on local storage are cloud storage and cloud backups. These Palm accounts that we get with WebOS on the TouchPads do just that.
Which brings us to the next question, can we have an application to access our Palm accounts from Android?

But I like local storage. I rather have my music on my SD card. There are some picture I'd also like to have on my device locally. Same with documents and a variety of other thing. I don't have to have everything on there, but there are something I would like to have. Not to mention that being a WiFi device I can't always have access to cloud storage.
There is room for both in my opinion.
OK, I'm done... back to you regularly scheduled thread.
ive been curious about this since i got mine, but i have a 32gb, so its never really been a project in the front of my mind...imma take a look at the whitesheets and teardowns (cuz i dont wanna open mine if SD isnt possible ) and see if there are even pins for data available, but im pretty sure there isnt, which would also explain why devs are working on getting OTG running
Did yours come with one?

No it didn't and you have to get the top back part of the phone off. Kinda feels like you're gonna break it lol mine didn't seem to want to slide off, so I just kinda pulled up from the charging port and slid my finger toward the top corner and pulled it off.
Mine didn't either. Felt like I was going to break it also so I was hesitent on ripping it off haha. All is well now 32GB class 10 should be in tomorrow.
Phone is beautiful!
Took me a sec to figure out, but there is a recessed tab behind the power button to assist in snapping it off.
I looked like an idiot for like 10 mins when I tried to slide it off then my gf pointed it out. *facepalm

I have a Sandisk Ultra 64GB card and it works great!
I'm seriously thinking about getting DNA on Wednesday and giving my S3 to my Spouse, who's still rocking the Thunderbolt. At first I was a bit dismayed by the 16GB storage option, but I looked at my 16GB S3 and realized that I never used more than 4 GB for Pics and Video, since everything is uploaded to my G+ account anyhow, and my 32GB SD Card is sitting idle. Here's something interesting.....this is available for the S3 and the iPhone....maybe they'll make it for the DNA? http://egoncompany.com/collections/hybrid-series-galaxy-s3
dude this is sick! i hope they do i will buy one asap!!
That is awesome!!!
I have to add....I don't play any games on my phone. I strictly use my phone for checking e-mails, surfing, FB, Google+, Twitter, and Pictures (I don't think I've unpacked my D-SLR at all since I've gotten the S3...it's a capable Point&Shoot), so even 16GB would be enough for me, but it's nice to know that there's possibly an option out there. Even if it isn't....I have a 3rd, 4th, and 5th line all coming up for renewal in March, so if I'm not happy, I'll just play the hand-me-down game and give the DNA to my mom, and get myself whatever the flavor of the day is at that point.
Okay, that is awesome. We need to bug the hell out of them and see what happens. I would certainly think they'd see the value in doing it, as the models the currently list offer higher memory configs out of the box.
Update: I sent them an email politely suggesting that we've got the perfect device for their business model. Lower memory than some and likely popular despite it's configuration.
This is great. I'll definitely pick one up if they make them for the DNA.
guys i dont get why you are all so excited... this is just a case with a sub holder - the memory on the usb itself does not integrate with the phone lol

Just a small USB drive.
I am crying over here, LOL...
As soon as I went on to the EGO Online Shop and saw the case, I knew immediately that it was nothing more than a case, storing a Micro USB Thumb Drive.
It does not mention anything about storing photos, music, apps, NOTHING on the Thumb Drive directly off of the phone.
It pretty much doesn't explain anything about what it does or it's use.
So, I can see where some people thought it would expand the on board memory of the DNA or iPhone or whatever phone they make a case for.
BUT, I did get a good kick out of some of the comments after people thought it would be a memory expansion for the phone.
ECO should be more specific and at least explain what the case and USB Drive is for.
On that note, if they were to make a case that would expand the on board memory or just so that we don't have to store all our pics/songs etc
on the phone and onto a USB Drive, that would be awesome.
Good luck to all with the DNA.
Nice phone, but I have had a ton of Androids (Most recently SGS3 from T-Mobile and Verizon), and this is just another one to add to my list. With the exception of the really nice 5" screen and
gorgeous display, it's just another Android Phone.
