Is There an Audio Adapter Cable That Lasts...? - Touch Cruise Accessories

My Seido Audio Adapter cable is starting to go out on me, almost made it for 2 weeks. The ends on this cable aren't 'molded', meaning the cable itself is inserted into each end, instead of being part of the piece of plastic they feed into. Day-to-day use has provided just enough tugging to loosen the connections and now the audio stutters, or goes off on one side and I have to jiggle the adapter cable to get it back.
Anyone find a higher quality version with molded ends so they don't work their way loose inside? It's not mentioned in any descriptions of others I've found, and you can't really tell from the product pictures. I've just ordered a Smartphone Experts one and am hoping for a bit more mileage, but, can't tell if the ends are molded.

HERE is the first adapter, ~16€ in Italy !! (..no comment)
9.95 on expansys.com HERE
I think the Brando adapters are better than the expansys ones, they look a bit more flexible.

Please let us know what you think of it!
Guys I have just recieved mine from brando this morning. And I have to say that I am not impressed at all! Within minutes of using it the shell of the mic fell off! I was on the train and didn't even realise untill I looked down in my hands and saw the bare connection exposed. No force at all was used it simply came off. On closer inspection it looks like it wasn't stuck together properly! Not a big problem as such. But I am still not happy with the build quality!!

Hmm interesting.
1.How long is the lead from the usb connector to the mic?
2.Have you had any feed back as to the voice quality of the mic?
3.Finally what 3.5mm headphones are using with it? (though any headphones I suspect would be an improvement over the supplied ones!! )
Sorry mate don't have a ruler at work to measure it at the moment. But at a guess i'd say probably about 45 - 50cm. But again I could be wrong as that was just an estimate! I'll check when I get home.
Haven't tested the mic on a call yet! Again will post back when I do.
I am using the Creative Labs EP-630 in ear earphones. Got to say the sound is excellent. Much better than the original ones you get with the phone. I hate using the originals they don't fit properly and they sound crap as well!
The only thing that was good about the original earphones was that the wire from the USB adaptor to the mic is quite thick. The wire on the Brando is thin, that was the first thing I noticed when I opened up the pack. It looks more delicate. And I found it impossible to attach the clip that they supply to the wire, the gap is too small and even the slightest attempt to clip it in causes marks on the wire and it feels like it will damage it.
Triple adapter
Does anyone have the first adapter with the 3 different sockets? I was just wondering if you use the 3.5mm headphone jack does the mic on the handset still work? If it does it'll be great for using in my car.
Thanks

It does NOT. The microphone is dead when the 3.5 jack is plugged in...
that just simply SUCKS!

I concur. I have the Brando product. I don't know why they even included the clip; it's impossible to attach to the wire. I tried, and the wire now has two glaring gashes in it that I've had to cover with electrical tape.
That being said, i use a set of Sony earbud earphones with it, and the sound quality is infinitely better than the original headset.
just received mine a few day ago. its just a 'not bad' thing. i'm using it with sony ericsson headset. the sounds is good enough to make me deaf.

No more dongle!

I hate using the dongle with my wired earphones on my Tilt 2. Even though I mostly use a Motorola S9 BT headset, there are times when the wired earphones are the only option. I prefer the in-ear type sets with silicone cups. I've been looking all over for a set like that with a mini-USB connector so I wouldn't have to use the dongle, but they are nowhere to be found. There are a few sets, including the OEM ones from HTC, but they all have crappy earbuds. I found a set on eBay, but when I got them I was disappointed with the sound quality. They sucked. Decided that I would combine the plug from those with the rest from my nice set of 3.5mm plug earphones. If you've ever cut into the wires on these earphones you know how hard they are to work with. Not wires, actually, more like filaments. They have a cooating on them to prevent shorting so they can be put together without individual insulation. This makes them thinner and more bendable. Unfortunately, it makes them extremely hard to solder. After some considerable time spent figuring out which wire went where (color codes didn't match, one set had 5 wires, the other only 4) I managed to get it all together and now have a mini-USB in-ear silicone headset that sounds awesome and still allows access to the phone controls. No more dongle for me!
Oh yeah, and I can use the FM radio with them.

Yeah, and I ordered one last night. Still, there are situations where a corded headset is the only option (airplanes, some government buildings). Not having to use the clumsy OEM dongle is a joy.

heh, i once used my BT headset to listen to music on a plane (shh, dont tell the FAA )
Hey do you, are you able to do a how to, i did think/try, and as try i mean cut the mini usb cord from other headphones, and as u said there were so many difference wires.
Thanks
Not sure about a how-to. The wire colors are different depending on whose headphones you have and whose you sacrifice for the USB end. Soldering these filament wires is a real chore. The color coating is what insulates them from each other in the cord. I scraped the coloring off to expose a little of the copper so I could solder them then I used tiny shrink sleeve to reinsulate them. When all done I slid a larger piece of shrink sleeve over all of it. You'll need a meter to figure out which wire is which, but I can tell you which pins from the USB connector on the phone are which. That'll make it a little easier for you. Give me a day or 2 to make up a diagram.
found good usb dongle for headset

You can get them cheaper on eBay. I got 3 of them for $3 shipped. Amazon charges shipping so you're better off going with eBay. Also make sure you get a bunch of them. The quality of these adapters are pretty bad and they fall apart after a month or so. You get what you pay for.

OEM Cables?

So I recently picked up some USB cables but, I found they are a little loose. The best cable that I have used is the one that comes with the Nexus 6 and presumable their similar flagships. I'm a big fan of how tightly it plugs into both ends. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could pick some up (cable only) or a similar option that makes a nice tight connection with the device and type A port because, the aukey ones I bought are a bit loose fitting on both ends.
I love these. The detents on the plug give a satisfying dull thump when I insert it into my phone, and they lock firmly. They look great too. It's a shame they'll be pretty much useless next fall when I move on to my next phone which will most certainly be USB-C.

I use these ones from Amazon exclusivley now:

I use Anker cables. Probably the best I've ever used.

Sony DK60 dock

I received the new Sony DK60 USB-C charging dock designed for the Xperia last week. It wasn't yet available in the US at the time I ordered it, but MobileFun was able to source it since it also operates a site overseas. It seems they have it available for order officially on its US site also now. I'd link to it if I had 10 posts under my belt.
What I like especially about this dock is that it provides essentially pass-through power with a USB-C port of its own, thereby allowing use of whatever adapter you already have available. The other dock options I have seen seem to be using only hard-wired power cord options and who knows about the quality of those cables. Sure enough, with the DK60 dock plugged into the OEM adapter, I get "Charging Rapidly." I didn't pay much attention, but I plugged in at 1% and was fully charged when I next checked a couple of hours later.
Unfortunately, the DK60 dock only works out of the box for a Pixel without a case because the USB-C plug in the dock is embedded in a shroud that serves as a very wide platform for the device to rest on. With either my Cruiserlite case or even my extremely thin Maxboost case, the thickness of the case actually prevents the plug from seating completely. That's never the end of it for me though, and the attached pics show the steps I took to make this work with either case.
Essentially, I wanted to reshape that plastic shroud that encases the USB-C plug so that it has a smaller footprint that fits within the USB-C port opening of most cases. I decided to open the dock up to get at it, but you could probably do the necessary work without taking everything apart. To open it, though, I needed to peel some of the grip tape from the bottom to expose to small screws - one on each side. I didn't know where they were, so I had to hunt a bit. Then a little prying to separate the top and bottom. Two more screws hold the plastic shroud onto the PCB assembly. Some filing to reshape the plastic piece and then reassembly. Works perfectly with or without a case now. Well, almost perfectly - it's so lightweight that it takes a second hand holding the dock itself to remove the phone, but I can live with that I suppose.
Looks like a good dock, I used some double sided tape to stick my Seidio down so I can remove the phone 1 handed...
I used microsuction tape to stick my dock to my nightstand. It's a little pricey, but a 10"x12" sheet is essentially a lifetime supply for me. I have the Seidio USB-C dock.
Thanks for sharing, this dock looks nice. Has your USB-C port been holding up with extended use with the dock?

Desktop and in car docking

Anyone have any nice finding on desktop and in car docking? Other than a brodit active charging cradle I couldn't find anything similar, would like to find something similar to hold the phone up higher a bit than leave it in the center pocket or have it stuck to the windscreen or air vent. Thanks
no body drive here? that cant be true, maybe you happy with any kind of car holders, I like one tht made to fit, so now I'm making my own, 3D Printed, with cutout for camera button, which isn't really needed
I just use a holder that goes into the CD player since I never use it. You want a stand that also works when it's on your desk? Why?
I don't know about other colour of this phone, but I have the one that's like a mirror and it slides around way to easily and I prefer to it to be on a charging dock, I will be designing a holder to add on to the cradle to hold the charge cable so I don't have to pick up the cable and plug it in anymore, just slot the phone in, I made mine to click on air vent
I have the chrome one as well, and I don't use a case or anything, unfortunately I don't even have a screen protector on it right now either. I use this in the car: Exogear Exomount. This works really well in the car, but obviously it won't work for you on your desk. There are lots of holders like this one though that have grips, my phone never slips out of this one.
That looks nice and neat, but I don't need to buy one now after designing and printing my own, just making a addon to hold the charging cable so when I slot the phone in, the cable plugs in like the brodit active charging cradle but doesn't cost me 65euro plus shipping, more like 2euro and few hours drawing in CAD , I will be designing a desktop one as well that also holds the charge cable, I made one for the z5 and was very handy, this phone is terrible for sliding around but it's a brilliant phone to use even with everything stock, the 3D creator is amazingly good too, all other scanner I tried were awful
P.s. I haven't use any sort of protective cover on my phone's since the z1, don't actually need it, and never even scratch a single screen for years, let's hope it stays this way in saying that, this xz premium has slide off the desk I don't know how many times, at least few times a day, but not a mark on it thank God
