Will it be able to at least connect to AT&T's EDGE network? It's for the wife and 3G doesnt matter. Edge would be nice though. I have an 8525 that I've done a lot to so I'm not a complete noob, but some general direction/help would be great.
What I'm working with:
I purchased a UK (orange) touch dual through ebay. It arrived this morning and I have already flashed the hard-spl and then flashed Tom Codons v2 rom. The first splash screen (orange) says "security unlocked" at the top ... does this mean it is super cid already?? I then ran the connection wizard setting everything for AT&T. With the default connection set to media net it would not connect or update weather from htc home or anything to i set it to my isp and it works; I can browse the internet, download weather from htc home, everything she needs to do on the phone.
The only thing I'm not sure about is at the top bar of the today screen, it shows a small G icon (data im assuming), and where the larger connection icon normally is I have an icon with 2 arrows and an x. Is something not fully functioning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It really depends on what bands ATT has in your local area. In my geography (central PA), there used to be legacy orange/blue ATT networks as Cingular and ATT merged years back, so we have pretty good overlapping coverage of 850/900 bands. In this area, 900 is pretty solid but it flips between G and E often.
If I drive to other regions though, such as northern Baltimore, MD, the coverage is much worse and there are miles of highway where I get no signal at all.

Looks like in a few months I'll switch her to t-mob, functioning enough for now though.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I travel between the UK and Canada a lot (originally from UK, in Canada for school), and I purchased an HTC Radar last week while I was in England. I got back to Canada today and I've found my signal is *crap*.
I knew HSPA would be, understandably, garbage (due to the lack of frequency coverage) -- however, as I understood, I should at least have quality Edge (lol, as quality as that can be).
What I've found is that my signal is beyond abysmal -- this is the first phone I've purchased that's nearly unusable in Canada. As soon as I get into any building or otherwise, I'm out of signal. I've only got signal outside or near windows.
Is there anything that can be done? I'm here for another three weeks and I just brought this phone. lol
Thanks for looking...
Sorry, not really. Canada has just really poor coverage. EDGE speed is directly related to signal strenght unlike 3G or 3.5G.
If the phone is used in 2G mode, GPRS is suppose to be main (for talking and etc, coverage in Estonia 99%) and edge covering where able (in Estonia, thats about 75%). If in 3G then it is still not suppose to be main but also as EDGE used where able (in Estonia thats about 50%)
This question is for the t-mobile guys that have their AT&T phone unlocked. Do you guys pick up "H" icon on your display or does it go into 3g or just stays at "Edge".
And if no, what APN's or settings did you use to bypass the "Edge" network.
And for the folks that say "use the connection app" I've done it, which is why I'm here.
Anyone have trouble getting 3g/4g speeds on their debranded AT&T phones via other carriers?

No Titan variant anywhere has support for the 1700MHz band ("AWS") T-Mobile USA uses for their UMTS services.
T-Mobile is re-purposing some of their 1900MHz spectrum for UMTS; once that happens in your area you may get 3G/H on your Titan. Until then you will not.

Thanks for the feedback.
I am sorry bro. I was like the few first people who own the International Titan and use it with T-Mobile Bands, I stucked at EDGE/2.5G for all the time before i switched to AT&T so look like you are out of luck.
Sorry.
I can confirm that it is rolling out as we speak, I have the TITAN 2 from ATT using a Tmobile sim and i often get the 4G signal, this started about 5 days ago (September 5th) in the Maryland, Washington DC area. I even tested the connection speed and got a 0.2 Mpbs which actually allowed me to stream netflix on the phone. I was so happy to see that 4G hopefully it can be permanent soon. otherwise I always get the E (edge) slow speed.

I'm in the city and still see 2g on my phone =(.
Under Settings -> Cellular -> Highest Connection Speed, did you set to 3G? Otherwise maybe it hasn't reached your part of the city yet... Tmo forums are pretty set on having the majority of the country covered by Q4 so a few more months I guess...

Lucky y'all!!! There's this big ol donut hole in the state of Georgia and we're in it...No 3G...3.5G...imaginary (AT&T) 4G...and worse...AT&T has their Titans throttled back on Cat 8 so nothing to write home there. I'm returning to T-Mobile at the end of the month and keeping my Titan...and I'm more than aware it will only run on EDGE until T-Mobile "completely" reforms 1900 so all you folks in the big cities; you live in small town USA; it might as well be never. Wherever there's WiFi...the phone is a dream to use but no amount of flashing the Titan is going to change the fact it will only run on 2G if you have either the Straight Talk (T-Mobile) SIM card or T-Mobile SIM card in it...bottom line is T-Mobile is 1700 and a few of us won't see 1900 until we're dead.

I've hit 3g+ in the NYC area, typically in the lower west side of Manhattan. I guess it's slowly making it's way up.
I experienced T-Mobile 3G on a Titan in Redmond, WA yesterday. Got about 2.8Mbit download.
On AT&T I usually get about half that.
Denver 4G
Looks like T-Mobile is doing something in SE Denver right now. I'm starting to see 4G light up on my AT&T Titan phone.
Keep going T-Mo!

If your Titan I is unlocked, download Advanced Configuration 1.5 and within it you can toggle either 3G or H. That said, as T-Mobile refarms their GSM 1900 band, those cities will be able to use their AT&T Titans on 3G/H. It is expected to be in most T-Mobile markets by the end of 2013. I would encourage you to check out TMo News web page at www.tmonews.com for where they are rolling their high speed 1900 band out.
There is spotty 4g service in the NYC metro area now. It would be nice if it was where I reside at lol. I can deal with the wait. It's so much fun having 4g speed on the titan though.

Be lucky and happy then; we live in a donut hole in West Central Georgia (US) and there is no T-Mobile service here and where there is AT&T and what remains of All-Tel after Verizon Wireless and AT&T got of what Verizon Wireless had to divest; there is no 3G or H and where my kids live in Opelika, AL, not AT&T but T-Mobile and no 3G there. Auburn-Opelika I doubt is big enough to get the refarmed 1900 H band anytime soon. Though none of these carriers mind us paying for it anyway; amazing how that works; they ***** about some folks using their data up but do you think they charge those on EDGE less; nope!
Hey Everyone,
I picked up the Dev version of the Lumia 920 and have been using it for a couple days. Everything has been great except the phone doesn't seem to hit LTE. It stays on 4G. The area I'm in does have LTE and when I put my sim card back into my 900, LTE works fine.
I've spent some time on the phone with Rogers and attempted to reset settings on their side and have even registered the device IMEI with them to no avail.
Does anybody know what I can do to get this to work? I'm fine keeping the phone on 4G but would love to see it on LTE eventually.
Thanks in advance!!
Go into cellular settings and make sure your highest connection speed is set to LTE and not 3G. Also make sure you have your APN set correctly. Without the right APN you won't get any evidence of LTE on the device. Once you set it correctly LTE should magically start working.
I have tried manually inputting the APN for Rogers LTE and that did not work. My sim also has settings programmed which show up and can be selected. The first is Rogers 3G which doesn't work at all and the second is Rogers LTE which makes everything work but only gets me a 4G connection.
The highest connection speed is set to 4G as it doesn't have an LTE option which is similar to how it was on my 900. Upon picking 4G, it should just hit LTE but it doesn't. I've taken the sim out and put it into the 900 and confirmed that LTE does work but when I put the sim back into my 920, I only get 4G.
4G is LTE ...
That's what I initially thought but the phone indicator should actually say LTE instead of 4G. I've checked this on my lumia 900 as well as on other 920's seen around the net.

hmm never seen that .. got any screenshots of photo's of a 920 showing this? That would mean I have not been on LTE even once !
For the current signal the Rogers variant shows
3G
4G -- refers to HSDPA etc
LTE -- refers to LTE
I know this because I experienced LTE on AT&T with a Rogers 920. But it didn't start working until I had the right APN.
The options in Cellular Settings for highest speed are 2G, 3G, LTE. Make sure it's set to LTE.

on the dev version of the phone (from MS build, which I also have), 4G is LTE. If you are on 3g you will get an H indicator. It won't say LTE.
Trust me, if it says 4G, it is on LTE. I've done some speed tests, and a few other tests, it really is LTE.

thanks! I'll take your word for it. I found it weird that it never said LTE but speeds have been fairly good!
Are you sure '4G' is LTE on the dev version? Speeds alone won't necessarily tell you.
On the Rogers variant, I'm seeing something like this:
'3G' --> non-HSDPA UMTS
'4G' --> HSDPA, HSPA+
'LTE' --> LTE
It's possible for the MO to customize some of these strings and they do it for marketing reasons. On the MS variant I'd expect the indicators to be a default set that are closely tied to the actual technology without any of the marketing-speak, something like
3G -- non-HSDPA 3G
H -- HSDPA
H+ -- HSPA+
LTE -- LTE
I could be wrong.
Where did you guys pick your Dev versions up?

I'm using an Unlocked Rogers Lumia 920 on the Telus network in Calgary. At first I assumed seeing 4G on the screen meant I was connected via LTE (the speeds were reasonably fast). However it turns out I just don't have LTE coverage in my house.
I was visiting a friend one day and noticed LTE had popped up, did a speed test and it was significantly faster.
Here are a few speed tests I've done around Calgary using the Free Speed Test app (all numbers in mbps):
my house, 4G: 7 down, 2.75 up (not sure which location I tested against)
friends house, LTE: 12.21 down, 0.88 up (tested against Idaho)
friends house, LTE: 16.56 down, 1.77 up (same physical location as previous test, tested against Seattle)
at work, LTE: 15.16 down, 5.67 up (tested against Seattle)
Next time I'm downtown I'll do more testing there. I would assume the coverage is better as you get closer to city center.
[I'm cross-posting this in the Sprint HTC One forum as well]
My situation:
1. I've been with Sprint since the OG Evo, but after getting the One, I was really frustrated with the slow LTE speeds especially after years of Network Vision promises and paying an extra $10 a month (per phone) for "high speed data" that was anything but. I was also irked at all the crap I had to go through to get the SIM unlocked.
2. The area I live in has refarmed HSPA+ to the 1900Mhz band.
3. The area I live in has AWS LTE.
4. I currently have a Sprint, T-Mobile, and Developer Edition One.
My original plan was to use the DE to test the TMO network to see if it was faster than Sprint and available in all the places I frequent. If so, then I'd sell my (now SIM unlocked) Sprint model and keep the DE, otherwise, I'd return the DE for a refund.
But over the last week and a half I've noticed that, while LTE speeds were frequently pretty high (15-20Mbps) there were still plenty of times when I was only seeing an H or an E. I couldn't even tell if the H was HSPA or HSPA+. So then I began to wonder if I was missing out because of the lack of the 1700Mhz band, thus I bought the TMO version to see if I was missing anything.
Turns out, I wasn't. The H I've been seeing is indeed HSPA+ but nowhere near the advertised 42Mbps. Granted, I wasn't naive enough to think I would pull 42Mbps even with the TMO version, but I expected to get at least in the 20-30Mbps range, instead I've been seeing 5-9Mbps. (Thanks to the Sensorly app, I can now tell which H I'm seeing).
After running around with TMO version, I'm seeing the exact same speeds in the same places. So, I'm not missing anything by not having 1700Mhz. In the meantime, TMO is still refarming more areas so the 1700Mhz is becoming less and less important.
So what about Sprint? At their lowest, the TMO speeds are equal to or a little above the Sprint speeds I've been seeing (my wife inherited the Sprint version during this trial run), and at their highest, Sprint can't touch them (in this area--I've gotten up to 20Mbps in PA).
So T-Mobile it is. When the wife's contract is up at the end of the month, the Sprint model is going up on Swappa. Meanwhile, the TMO version is going back to the store tomorrow.
What about AT&T you ask? Way faster, but way more expensive. Truth is, I spend most of my time on wifi anyway, so I'm not willing to pay AT&T prices for cable internet speeds for the times in between.
Hope this helps anyone else facing the same dilemma.
What are your apns for t-mobile. The LTE apn settings are slower than the HSPA apn. Unless you're in a LTE T-Mobile area.

I have different result with comparing a Dev edtion and T-Mobile edition One. NY is a refarmed market but there would be times I would still get EDGE in some spots. In the same area the T-Mo One would have a constant 4G/LTE connection while the Dev One would fluctuate between 2G/4G/LTE. I would recommend stick with the T-Mo One just in case you go into area that is not refarmed. I had faster 4G speed on the T-Mo one as well. (Single digits with PCS 4G compared to double digit AWS 4G)
Just popping in to say congrats on leaving Sprint.
I had them for about 8 months and could not stand them anymore. Paid $350 ETF and been happy ever since.
I read how the alpha works with att but it doesn't support LTE.. Is that the same for TMobile?
just an update in case anyone is wondering. Yes it did work with tmobile but just like the other guy who got it for ATT, I won't get LTE. I get H+ or whatever it's called but not LTE. Also, Tmobile isn't all that great in my area so I'll be switching back to Verizon, hopefully this phone gets released for Verizon someday.

Same goes for me. I just received a European version(SM-G850F) and it's data speeds are unusable on T-Mobile's network in Southern California.
I saw a post about a Canadian version (SM-G850W8) that has the 1700/2100 bands for T-Mobile on the CanadaGSM website. This model isn't listed anywhere else. Is this an error in listing or is it worth ordering?

You want an honest opinion? I returned this phone and picked up the Sony xperia z3 compact. The deal breaker on the alpha wasn't the lack of a SD slot. It was the battery life. On normal use it beraly make it through an 8 hour shift. I was at about 5 percent battery life and I know I can swap out batteries but the battery life overall is just poor.
I used my xperia compact all day yesterday, and then some after work, I ran some errands, used Google maps for a bit, made a few calls, paired it to my car so I can play some music, I was out and about for almost 14 hours and I was at about 20 percent. Yeah the lack of no removable battery sucks but it had great battery life.
It's not all pretty though. I don't like the back glass. It scratches easily, the dual stereo speakers sound muffled, call quality is fine. Picture speed seems a bit slow and the front facing camera is pretty poor. Still I think the z3 compact is cheaper than the alpha. I miss the build quality on the alpha but I'm happy with my xperia Oh and it's wager proof which is great but the glass makes the phone slippery which makes you wonder why they even made the back glass in the first place
Oh and the screen seems a bit too sensitive.
Anyway just thought I'd throw that out there. The alpha is great, just wish it had a better battery life.

The z3 compact would be my 2nd choice but I REALLY love the build quality. The battery life on the alpha is a big concern but it's a fair trade-off for me. I might just take the risk and order it from CanadaGSM.ca and see how that works out with T-Mobile's network.
***UPDATE***: DO NOT buy from CanadaGSM.ca website. They are fraudulent. I received a blank confirmation page upon order completion and the chat line said I needed to give them my CC's 3 digit security code even after they've charged my bank account. They also said my product will not be shipped. The number listed on their website is fake as well. Google... beware CanadaGSM.

I get around 24 hours from mine with 4 hours on screen time, I have tweaked it a bit but no harder to do than it was with the nexus 4
The Galaxy Alpha in Canada used by Bell Canada and
related Companies called the 850 W8 has the exact
Bands for METRO PCS/ TMOBILE USA including
3 G , 4 G, LTE ETC.
I've posted elsewhere but you can log on to their Site and look at their Devices.
They use 1700, 1900, 2100 on both 3G
AND 4 G LTE ( AWS Band ).
Update on this thread if any one will be looking
I have both G850F and G850M.
I have only cracked open the G850M to play with.
My display says 4G in most areas besides my work area inside a metal box.

How does the G850F work on T-Mobile? Does it get 4G LTE?
I have the 850m on tmobile in Austin, Texas and I get LTE coverage.
No not an error if you want LTE on TMO this will do it and the 850M will definitely do it because I have the 850M which has the LTE Bands for Tmo BUT you probably won't get VoLTE like a branded Tmo phone.
My 850M says LTE but drops to 3g on calls sometimes it goes to H+ on calls and I have voice and fast internet but sometimes NO Internet on calls....
Great fast little phone Exynos has better audio than qualcomm .
Canada Bell phones have the 3G and 4G bands for Tmo 1700, 1900,2100 LTE and
1700, 1900, 2100 3G
EDIT : After using a different combination of APN settings on the Metro/Tmobile Network I am getting much improved LTE and H and H+ speeds and stability.
Data very rarely stops during calls.
As confirmed by User Corvissimo I have also seem CDMA band 1700 on 3G in addition to 1900 band on 3G.
The 850M also has all the LTE Bands for Tmo
and locks onto very low level signals for calls and data sometimes in elevators.
When you do not have LTE or on a voice call this unlocked factory Alpha drops to 3 G or H H + AND you have 1900 band there for Reframed areas AND the rarely listed 1700 band on 3G confirmed by Corvussimo and now myself via simple diagnostic.
Now I am getting better handoffs switching from 3G H+ and back to LTE when call is over.
I am not a Dev. but above is correct especially the diagnostic I have a screen shot lol.

Excellent info, Thank You! Do you mind posting a Screen Shot (or a written list) of the new APN Settings that you are using for Tmo? I have a G850M on the way to me now and that would be very helpful. And my father is using an Unlocked SM-G850A.
I'm also interested in anyone's experience regarding LTE/HSPA+ connectivety & service using the SM-G850M specifically on AT&T in the Metro Los Angeles area.
Well my settings are tweaked for Metro PCS which uses the exact same Towers as Tmo AND the sims and most settings are interchangeable - BUT getting optimized settings on Metro is a little different.
For example you will use
Fast.t-mobile.com - I can use either that OR the fast.metropcs.com.
There are esoteric Metro settings GID which help but don't pertain to Tmo.
Yes 850m gets lte for att. Get it on Amazon. Their customer service is great. This phone is awesome. With the KitKat rom I was getting 20hours with 30-40% screen on time. Sometimes 50% . Best phone ever
