I never did get GPS working well on Alltel - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Has anyone in Alltel gotten GPS working well (lock within a minute)?
Just curious. I'd largely given up on this 3 months ago. I do know it works MUCH better in Orlando than Sarasota, FL (where I live). I just want to make sure I haven't missed any magic bullets our there for Alltel.

I am getting a good lock within 30 seconds. I am using the newest alltel Radio that is no longer available. HTC pulled it and DCD's Rom 3.2.6. I live in TEXAS and have clear blue skies most of the time.
ROM 3.2.6 DCD's
Radio Alltel 3.37.20

After flashing i have noticed the first lock takes awhile. I use google maps. You may need to go through the google maps retry process(maybe a couple times). After i get my first lock the next ones i grab within 30 to 45 seconds.
ppc 6800
alltel
dcd 3.2.6
radio 3.42.50

Mine locks in 5-20seconds
dcd 3.2.2
3.42.30 radio
and the GPS PST mod

I have no problems getting a GPS lock with my alltel. I have the latest ROM and Radio put out by DCD. If you need some help shoot me a PM and I will do what i can to get it working for ya.

*Cingular 8525 on T-Mobile* Need Radio Suggestions for Houston, Texas are

Hello all, 1st off this site is awesome! I'm a noob, but have been searching and reading as much info as possible...
Any suggestions from someone in the Houston, Texas area for a good Radio version to use? Calls are constantly dropped and device keeps freezing up.
Unlocked Cingular 8525 used (not very effectively) on T-Mobile network
WM5
Current ROM 2.15.502.3
Radio 1.5
Hello,
Not sure if this helps but I live in Houston and use 1.54.07.00 radio from ATT. Although I am on their network it might work for Tmobile too. Worth a shot. There is a link further down this forum for that radio.
I had to change flights in Houston recently, and my t-mobile & radio 1.47 worked well at the airport.
thanks for the suggestions...1.54.07 didn't work so well, it dropped signal after about 5 mins and it never came back. I tried 1.40...it did the same and the device froze up.
I'm currently on 1.47, can't really test it right now but we'll see what happens tomorrow.
It's looking like I might just sell this and get the Wing so I can move on with my life! albeit with a slower processor...
thx again, more suggestions/help would be welcome
*UPDATE*
It looks like 1.47 might be good...I've been using the phone/texting all morning long and it's held up.
thx!

GPS Frustrations on the 6800

I've been following the threads on XDA for a while now, and have been having a great time flashing, de-flashing, reflashing, cooking, and in every other way messing with my Alltel HTC 6800.
The reason I took such an interest in all of this was to get the GPS working on my phone. Thanks to all that have contributed, I have been able to access the GPS, but it usually takes HOURS to get a lock, no matter what version radio I use.
There are no duhhs here; I've tested multiple scenarios, inside, outside, waiting for a lock, moving, not moving, using quickGPS, Google maps, GPS viewer, the latest radio, etc.
I would like to explore what the people with GPS success have in common, and what those with GPS frustrations have in common (excluding noobie issues).
If your GPS is working great, post your geography and carrier. If it's not, do the same. If you're a pro who likes a challenge, lets find out what the issues are (if they are indeed something that can be dealt with programmatically).
*****Please list your Carrier******
I also have a alltel htc 6800 and upgraded for the gps feature. I live in ohio and sometimes have trouble aquireing a signal with gps. I have tried a couple things to get the signal usually it takes a while sometimes i can grab it really quick if you wana trail and error something we can to find out whats wrong.
I'm in Florida. Alltel htc 6800. I'm currently using dcd's 3.0.0 with the 3.35 radio. I actually haven't gotten a lock at all since upgrading the radio, but its only been 1 day.
I suspect geography to be a big factor but gosh darn, alot of boats and cars use GPS in Florida with no issues!
Bell in Calgary. I am getting "locked" every time I do a hard reset within 1-2 min. It has never been a problem and I have used all DCD roms since Nov 07.
Sprint in Virginia, and I get a lock in like 15 secounds.
living in south florida, locks in like 15 secs too using google maps,
btw using dcd 3.0 with new radio
Takes about 15 seconds in NW Florida too.. Standard Sprint 3.35 ROM...
Was taking me 4 to 5 minutes with DCD 2.3.2 ROM and the 3.27 radio...
I have Sprint, 3.35 radio with dcd 3.0.0, in CT, using Garmin Mobile XT, get lock in under 2 mins (usually under 1) to anywhere from 6-11 sats.
I prev. had 3.27 with dcd 2.3.1 and used Garmin xt and google maps while on vaca in FLA, same lock time 1-2 mins, no problems at all, then drove from FL to CT using garmin xt and only lost sat connection 2-3 times for less than 10-15 seconds.
Sorry but mine is working superbly, and i cant think of anything special or different i've done.
I do not use any astrolauncher or gps gateway apps. i do have quick gps with the dcd rom though.
Verizon - Dallas - DCD 3.0.0 - Windows Live Search - can't get a lock indoors 10 ft from windows - outdoors get within 15 miles in a few seconds, gets right on my location as I move around.
Who is your carrier, Heatball?
Looks like alot of happy sprint people, even in FL
Could it be that Alltel's 6800 has something different under the hood? Its starting to look like a carrier-specific issue, not geographic.
im in binghamton, new york, and sometimes i get a lock in a minute or so and get anywhere from 3-7 sats, sometimes it takes a few minutes, not more than 4. but sometimes i cant get one for what seems like a long time until i give up and try again later. still havent figured out how to make sure its solid enough to rely on.
cant wait to get back home to the city(NYC) and see what its like there. hopefully someone posts there results on this thread.
im on dcd 3.0.1 with the new radio, obviously.
Sprint, Idaho.
With the unOfficial ROM locks took 5 to 10 mins. With Official ROM locks with in 15 seconds - 2 min. Depending upon surrounding enviroment.
I have a Alltel 6800 in Phoenix, AZ and running DCD 3.0.0 Radio 3.35.04 and mine locks on to 5 to 9 satelites usually 15 feet off within 2-5 minutes

Are you guys using DCDs 6.1 Rom or the stock Sprint ROM? I think that's what matters the most here.. I'm getting satellites, but none of them are locking on so I can't do anything with them.
Alltel PPC6800
Mid-Michigan - Alltel - PPC6800 -
Radio 3.27 - DCD 2.32
I was acquiring signal in about 2 - 3 minutes with TomTom
Radio 3.35 - DCD 3.0
I'm acquiring signal in about 10 - 20 seconds with TomTom
I'm using BAF's GPS Launcher to launch.
Alltel PPC 6800
Raleigh, NC - Alltel - PPC6800 -
Radio 3.27 - DCD 2.32
I was acquiring signal in about 2 - 3 minutes Google Maps
Radio 3.35 - DCD 3.0.0
I'm acquiring signal in about .5 - 1 minute with Google Maps
Getting ready to try out DCD 3.0.1...and hopefully that will be my last flash for a while, I bought this thing to save time and have found myself spending more time flashing, setting everything back up, walking around my neighborhood staring at the GPS screen, etc... than being productive. But, I love the new toy!
I'm on Sprint in Washington DC, using the stock 3.35 ROM with Live Search and Quick GPS. Without QGPS I get a lock in about 15 seconds with it I get a lock in like 5 secs.

Anyone having signal issues with Radio 3.42.30?

Anyone having signal issues with Radio 3.42.30? I have the verizon xv6800, and i am dropping calls and having signal issues left and right where i never had issues before with any Verizon phone?
I dropped only one call, and that's when I was at home over the 4th. I have terrible service at home (usually no bars even show, 1 at the most), so I can't really say much. You want want to try the whole M.IP settings fix that everyone has been doing, it might help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406041
See if doing that stuff helps any (i know it seems slightly irrelevant, but it can't hurt to try)

is it more irrelevant that 1 of the settings that supposedly needed to be changed was already correct by default? does that mean i shouldnt be having any issues and i just wished i had better service than i do? haha
How I did it:
Write down all the settings you currently have. WRITE THEM DOWN.
Change all M.IP settings to wrong values. Save, and if it dosen't tell you SR the phone.
Upon reboot, wait 15min and set the settings back to what they are supposed to be. SR if it doesn't tell you to.
Now, It took me like 10-15 of these cycles in order to get my phone to work... I don't know if it was my phone, the ROM, or VZW sucking. But now I get instant service, and plenty of bars.
I'm on Sprint and not having any issues at all - the only change I've noticed is faster GPS locking. I also have crappy service due to location, but when I'm not at that location, it's been working flawlessly. No dropped calls.

Since switching over to the new Radio I'm having dropped calls, VERY poor reception, and almost no bars in areas where I usually have great signal... frustrating, I'm going to downgrade as soon as I have the chance

Dont you have to worry about certain ROMS and older radio's
I've also noticed that when I try to use the internet at home my internet sometimes refuses to work because the signal is too low when it always worked great before.
Also, this may be the source of my text messaging issues (have to resend about 4 times sometimes before it goes through).
I live in the country and have never got great signal but I didn't have as many issues before. I'd rather not downgrade... is there a newer radio ROM out somewhere I could try?
If I were to downgrade, any suggestions on which version to use?
Over the past few months starting just before 3.37 was released my signal went to unusable phone at my house. I was using 3.39 with the same results but was happy with the radio all in all. I bought a touch using 3.37 by default. It still had crap signal at my house but better then my titan I could atleast stay on the internet. I put 3.42.30 on my titan and my signal went from 0-1x to 1-2EVDO instantly. Now my phone acts like it used to the day I got the thing. I can kinda use my phone again lol instead of useless.
lost signal
i have had 5 dropped calls where i usually get great signal. and GPS still takes time to fix but does seem to be quick. I DEF lost signal strength when upgrading.
How many that upgraded are on Sprint vs. VZW..?
As I read the posting, I've noted that it seems that (unless I'm wrong...) those reporting improvement are currently Verizon Wireless users, and those with more dropped calls, etc. are Sprint users. Am I reading between the lines here, or is that accurate? If so, then those of us that are VZW customers should do the upgrade to the 3.42.30 Radio...! (and those of us on Sprint - should not.)

Those of you who've upgraded to the new 3.42.30 Radio...
1. What carrier are you with?
2. Did you notice any improvement, and if so - what? Please describe.
Thanks from all of us.
I am on Verizon. Switched back to .02. .30 was not working well for me. .02 works much better, GPS and service wise.
Sandy,
I'm on Verizon and use 3.42.30. There are noticeable improvements in both GPS lock time and overall signal strength.
My coworker is on Sprint, uses 3.43.30 and also notices an improvement in signal strength (GPS lock time is moot for him as Sprint uses aGPS and his lock times are near instant).
XV6800 with 3.42.30 and it seems no better/worse than it was before. GPS does work now, it didn't previously when 3.42.02 was loaded (It did with 3.35 too).
VZW
im on Verizon, and 2 different units verified the poor signal and dropped calls. i used to get great signal with old drivers maybe could be something else...
3.2.0 DCD with 3.42.30

I need the best VERIZON radio to go along with dvd 3.2.3

I need the best VERIZON radio to go along with dvd 3.2.3. Any offical verizon radio's?
I have 3.42.02 and i drop calls and have low signal, where i would have full coverage with my old Lg Voyager. I have tired 3.42.30 too.
The GPS isnt a big deal to me, JUST SERVICE TO PLACE CALLS
==================================================================
dcd 3.2.3 rom---sorry dcd
I am in a different boat than you. 3.39.10 dropped many calls for me and now rock solid with 3.42.30. Try 3.39.10 found in the Wiki section.
I am currently using the 3.42.02 radio with DCD 3.2.3 ROM. If I upgrade to the 3.42.30 radio, will I have to call Verizon to get a new A-Key? I did have to call Verizon when I upgraded from the default radio to the 3.42.02 one.

You didn't even have to call Verizon when you upgrade the radio from the stock one? Wow, I had to call them to re-authenticate my phone.
Did you notice a difference between 3.42.02 and 3.42.30?

I bought my phone off ebay and the stock rom and radio was already removed... I tired 3.42.30 and i hated it. Dropped calls constantly...Other people have had nothing but outstanding performance from it. So its a trial by error thing I guess
Coming from DCD 3.0.4 and older radio, went to DCD 3.2.2 and radio 3.42.30. Reception doesn't seem to be much different than before but my battery life has increased dramatically. I don't have any factual comparisons but by estimation it's 50% better. I live and work in areas where EVDO is marginal so my phone is constantly switching between 1X and EVDO, maybe the new radio does in fact work better and my phone isn't constantly switching between them eating up the battery.

Hi jeffgman,
You should only have to call Verizon for a new A-key when going from a non-GPS radio (Ex 1.x and 2.x) to a GPS radio (3.x). Once on a GPS radio you are able to flash any other GPS radio without needing to call Verizon.

Great. Thanks for the information. I might try the 3.24.30 radio today and see how the quality and battery life is.
Jeff
I use verizon with the 3.42.30 radio and I like it....except the screeching sound when call waiting is used... but everything else is great
I am on rom 3.22 and had radio 3.42.30. This is a nice radio and found the signal to be great. I did downgrade since I do business travel for tech support and need gps and found that radio 3.39 worked better for my testing results. I would switch them on the fly to location testing...
I am using BAFs tools for gps connection so I have not tested this with 3.42.30 radio but I am not willing to lose my good standing right now to test...again I do think 3.42.30 is good and GC recommends this radio as well...

Verizon Touch Pro Radio

Just got my Verizon TP today.
I'm in a pretty poor signal area and at home, I'm just hanging in with around 1 bar on average and phone switches from 1x to Ev frequently.
That's going to kill my battery quickly.
Are there any alternate radios that I can try yet that might improve reception?
I saw some radio threads, but nothing, in particular for Verizon yet.
there is a couple of radios floating around, but from my understanding is that the touchpro unlocker wont work on the the verzion version, yet. so for the time being your stuck with the stock radio
there is a unlock for it u can just use the mighty rom 6 and it will come with the new radio and u will have to use a hardspl program for that phone they make one for verizon everything can be found here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=52695
