FM radio frequencies - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

I tried the FM radio frequency tweak, as used in other HTC devices.
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer\Band"
0 = 87.5 - 108.0 MHz
1 = 76.0 - 108.0 MHz
2 = 76.0 - 91.0 MHz

When setting the Band value to 1, I do not get the channels which I do get when it is set to 0.
A. Did anyone succesfully experiment with this?
B. Can anyone "patch" the FM radio software to default a big FM-range?
C. What are the min and max frequencies the chip can handle?

it probably has nothing to do with the chip but with the radio module firmware (different in each area devices are sold, handling GSM/GPRS/GPS/FM etc.)

Ok
D. Is the FM-radio firmware part of the "radio firmware"?
E. Is the firmware area dependent?
For the last one I think that isn't true, otherwise you couldn't load custom firmware I think.

D. maybe - but makes sense to be like that
E. yes - they make them aread dependent but nobody forces you to use your area's (people try different radios)

I'm using HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer\Band=1 in Japan.
It's works fine with wired headset.
I bought my Touch Pro from mobilx.hu at Hungary.
ROM version: 1.90.401.1 WWE
Radio version: 1.02.25.19
best regards,
riki0081 from Japan

mine seems to work fine and i get alll the channels i expect too straight out of the box from expansys

I wonder if you can scan ranges between 30 and 200 instead of the defaults as mentioned in my opening post

Most FM radio channels are in a specific range. It seems there are 3 ranges used worldwide. Out of these ranges there is a lot of other things you can here. I know in my country a few years ago the police and radio communication was arround 70, which a normal radio won't receive. I also think certain non-dect phones are on 33.
So if the hardware is capable of receiving these ranges I would like to use that!

would be interesting to find out

What I got is
0 = 87.5 - 108.0 MHz
1 = 76.0 - 91.0 MHz
2 is a invalid value
It is pity it doesn't support eastern European band as low as 6x MHz

hmmm... this al sound interesting.
any progress yet auxaux?

Can't get a signal on my SX56-- Help

I bought a new SX56 from an ebayer and it appears to be unlocked etc. I put my current active Cingular SIM card in it but I get a no signal message after it searches for signal. The device came with xda-developers.com ROM version v1.2 on it. I have tried to switch to all of the different Bandswitch settings with no success. HELP PLEASE!!! ANYONE??!!
What's your RSU version ... you can get it from device info or displayed while booting.
PS: it's very risky to use the GSM menu this way. Check with your operator and select the right band once and for ever.
No signal on SX56
My device info is:
ROM ver: 3.17.03 ENG
ROM date? 05/15/03
Radio Version 6.12
Protocol version 324e4
Seems you have a bit old ROM and RSU ... you better check with one in your area but I see here some people have either TMO 4.01.00 + 6.24 or AT&T 30.09 + A30 and they are on Cingular. The right bandwidth setting is the key factor.
Thanks for your reply. I don't know how to do the updates you refer to. I hate to return the thing because I got a good deal on it, but if I can't use it on Cingular I don't know what else to do with it? Any help would be appreciated.
Doc
You can get the complete TMO update (ROM + RSU) here ftp://tmobile:[email protected]:21
Good luck ...
Hi,
I tried to link and get an error trying to connect. Could you please send it again :?: ? Do you think updating to windows 2003 would be if help? I can download it for free from the Siemens website. I just don't want it to lock the phone or cause any damage!
Doc
The official update from AT&T should be OK ... however, you device is better to be PW10B type (check the rear sticker) these upgrades were made for USA use.
Also, if you are in the Cingular 850Mhz only zone, you wont be able to catch signal, cause none of the RSU's will support this band.... (quite unfortunate for all of us in North America)
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure of the Band mHz on Cingular. I will try to find out from them if I can. Guess I'm the die hard type but I still want it to work or I'll have to abandon it. Any other help will be appreciated

Quite unfortunate indeed. What are the chances that AT&T will release one in the future to make it compatible with Cingular 850 networks after the merger?
I still think there is a way to tune a digital device to another frequency. AT&T has a deal on these for $99.99 and it was just bought out by Cingular. It would be logical that Siemens has something in the mix an upgraded model, different freq. etc.

That's what I am thinking. I am a Cingular employee so I bought one to put on my ERP but I can only use AT&T and T-Mobile signals at the moment.
I am 100% certain that it is possible to get the device to work on 850, more than likely just restricted in the radio stack.
You are lucky!! I have six phones through Cingular and they have been trying to get me a Treo 600 since December!! I'd prefer a windows based device hence my reason for buying a SX56. I had no way to know it would not work on Cingular. All the ads I see for unlocked phones claim they will work on any GSM carrier with an active SIM card.
Obviously it doesn't work hence my involvement in all of this!!
Doc
It is possible that somebody has got cingular sim to work on 850, if they were in close proximity to a mast maybe the 50mhz wouldnt mean too much and a signal could be acquired, but you would still be using a phone detuned by 50mhz which isnt an ideal situation.
I'm not an expert but 50mhz is a pretty big difference in frequency. The splash over from 800 to 850 or 900 to 850 is pretty big. It probably would not work very well even a few feet away from the site where it functions. Still there has to be a way to to tune one of these to 850mhz.
Doc
re: the 850 tunning question, As far as I understand this is a hardware aspect of the radio, thus you can not tune to this freq. This is also the reason AT&T did not brand the XDA II, because HTC would not impliment 850 into the device. You are more likely to see a HP6300 or MPx in this department as they are both quadband phones (meaning 850 implimentation) the real question is, will either of these phones be EDGE enabled? My quess is the HP will but the MPx will not. Reasoning: Rumor was HP was using TI Ref design WANDA. TI make EDGE hardware for phones. TI processor may be in the HP phone. The bottom line is you will need new hardware for 850 or EDGE. Sorry for the bad news, I too would love to be proved wrong. Guess I'll have to pony the dough for one of these two new devices. I really loved my HTC device but if they aren't going to keep up...I have no choice. I still feel the XDA will be a better over all device, but without 850 & EDGE implimentation it's going to fall way short. It's nice to own a Corvet, but if a Honda goes faster...why buy the brand name.

I'm getting depressed. I bought this thing thinking it would just be a matter of sticking the SIM card in and off we go!! I've emailed 15 times, joined three different PDA/Phone forums and learned more about these damn things than I ever intended. Now I have a slow PDA, a car charger, extra case, extra sync/usb cable and it won't work on Cingular which I can't change!!!
HELP!!!

Excuse me if I'm way off base, but I just moved over to Cingular from T-Mobile using an unlocked Wallaby, and it works fine. The only thing I haven't been able to do is to make a GPRS connection.

You can probably think of this as the RF (Radio Frequency) driver if you like, it is firmware (software for the hardware) that controls the way the device handles anything to do with RF, so thats wifi, gsm, hsdpa, bluetooth and GPS.
The main thing is, each radio version performs differently in different regions of the world, and also is dependant on your mobile provider. Performance being mainly down to voice quality, if you have a certain radio, and you have lots of drop outs, dropped calls and so on, its quite possible you need to try a different radio.
For instance for us in the UK, 0300 or 0321 is by far the best choice, in europe many people find 1600 or 1700 to be better.
Many people in Asia find 1800 to be best.

Mobile Network problems with Le Max 2 - 6GB / 128 GB

Hello, I have got a Le Max 2 with 6 GB / 128 GB (used, no warranty). Got it with ROM EUI 5.8.019S.
I have severe mobile network problems. I live in Dusseldorf, Germany, where LTE/4G (vodafone) never was a problem. The Le Max 2 shows 4G, often H or E or no service. Very rarely I get up to 15.000 kbit/s, but more often I get nothing. I tried with new APN, both SIM slots, vodafone and O2-SIM cards, reset to factory and finally i changed to Madsurfer ROM which works fine but does not change the network problem.
I don't know much about mobile network management but it seems like something is going wrong there. When my phone can not work with 4G it does not fallback to 3G or 2G but is completely offline.
Is it possible to flash a different modem?

There is description here how to check bands. Maybe you have US bands? There is also newest version of ROM 5.9 21s
If I help you please express it.
Do you mean the post about activating LTE / 3G bands? I tried this and it improved a little but only for a while (maybe random coincidence) and now it seems to be even worse. I flashed several roms with twrp but there was no improvement.
I found out that the modem settings are stored in special small partitions like modemst1 / -2 and you can erase them with fastboot. There exist some post about other phones where it helped to erase them and after a reboot they are created new (from other backup partitions) but I hesitate before I have further information - though I think I can not destroy more.

The modem files are changed by original roms.
Cooked roms do not change modem files.
so, try to install a original rom, like indian o chinese...
Try with the Indian ROM.
I flashed indian and chinese stock (with full wipe each time), did not help. Tried also madsurfer, TeamSpain Revolution and now Rom V6-X820 of Bshuy2003.
I still get network, internet works, after a while I can't download anything and often lose network completely or get E(DGE) though LTE signal should be good even inside building (in Düsseldorf) where I am testing. My Note 4 gets 4G all the time with no problem. I do not only have that problem in buildings though. Net is unreliable even outside. Works and then stops working after a while.
I installed LTE Discovery and found out: The Phone connects to LTE band 20 station, RSRP from -70 to -90 dBm (which is good), I can download at reasonable speeds (not very good though), after a while it connects to LTE band 3 or 7 stations with bad RSRP (above -100 dBm, often -115 dBm) and I can't download anything (My Note 4 can even with about same RSRP). Often it then moves to (E)DGE. If I restrict the Phone to 3G sometimes I get H or H+ (HSPA) but no good connection. Often carrier is lost completely. Sometimes LTE Discovery app states "Potential eCSFB issue detected", maybe there is a problem with the Fallback management.
It would work if the Phone did not change vom LTE band 20 to 3 or 7 stations.
I found this in CatLog, could it be related to the problem?

I also faced the same problem with brand new Indian X821. Mobile signal very weak or not signal at all. No amount of flashing stock or custom ROM fixed the problem. Flashing new or old NOH-HLOS.bin doesn't help. Other than this, there is no problem at all with the phone.
Any help is appreciated.

I didn't face such issue. Probably hardware problem?

Flash it with twrp and reboot.
I have a 4GB X820 and use USA AT&T. After recovering my phone from a hard brick using FlashOne, my cell data (voice would still work) would never come back up after switching out of airplane mode, and I'd have to reboot to get it to work again. Also at times, I would be in my house and would watch my signal go from full bars to one or none, every several seconds. I just flashed the 16s v.00024 modem in the USA folder from the link sky104hk posted and all is well so far.
For reference, my old modem was MPSS.TH.2.0.c1-00229-M8996FAAAANAZM-1 1
Thanks for the list of modems!
My phone no longer connects to the Tmobile network. It will connect to some towers and not others. Did tmobile push some sort of update? Many places I just get no service. I tried flashing the 26s radio, but still no dice. Or is the cell modem in my phone broke?

Hello and thank you for your work. I have an X829 and I want to use it with European frequencies including the B20. What version of modem should I flash. Because I don't read Russian. Thanks
None of them. X829 does not support B20 so you will get LTE only in areas with B3 coverage. X820 supports both of them.

Dear siijii, I have the same problem.have you find a solution? Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for sharing Modem files.
I just got X820 but for some reason it is not connecting to LTE Band 20.
The ROM it came with is 5.8.019S
The questions are:
1) Is there any hardware difference between International version and Chinese version?
2) can i flash Chinese ROM on my x820 (my mobile has CE0560 written on back cover, so i assume it is international version)
3) When selecting *#*#4636*#*# >> select radio band >> "set GSM/UMTS band" list is empty, so do you think i need to flash modem to get European band profile here?
4) Which modem file should i flash for band 20, the Modem directory i downloaded from your link, has Russian language directory name.s If i use Google translate i can see the directory name with modem files are "For developers" , India, China, Russia & USA. No modem file for Europe which has Band 20 enabled?
Thanks in advance.
Take a look at the backside of your X2. If there is a branding in the downside of it, it isnt a X820. Got the same problem, bought a X820 and became a X829. Luckily, I got B3 here working.

Am i hampered by having the chinese Redmi 5 plus?? Help please...

Ok, sorry about this bit of a noob (and the MIUI forums are a bit sarcy) you guys are usually helpful..ok, i bought a redmi 5 + from ebay, it came as the chinese model i.e MEE7 (not MET7 or MEG7) now when i boot up it says 'unlocked' under the Mi logo and there's a unlocked padlock symbol, the MIUI version is Global 9.5 Stable 9.5.11.0 (NEGMIFA) which i received as an OTA (so i assume i can get OTAs for this phone even though it's Chinese?)...now i've been told that i can't get band 20 (via MIUI forums and said i was ripped off) after checking on LTE discovery i'm on band 7 (i'm in the UK and with EE and i seem to get 4G+) is band 20 that important? how can i check what bands this phone has got? is band 20 faster? on net velocity i get 35.25mps download and 19.72mps upload., is this ok?..also will i be hampered in anyway with regards to future updates, including Oreo and MIUI 10...any help would be great guys, and cheers for helping a noob.
See.:good:
Band 20 is an issue in some countries where it is used more, and not in others. Don't know about the UK, but it is being rolled out more and more across Europe.
It's important because it's a low frequency band for good coverage both outdoors over a long range and deep indoors. This is the band that also gives you the good converge inside of the buildings.
Higher frequency bands have more capacity. Lower frequency bands have better coverage.
You shouldn't be missing anything else. Your phone should update fine with the global rom.

Ok cool, so i'm not crippled by the fact it's a chinese model then (as it updates fine via OTA) by the way how can i check what bands are on this phone?? the apps i've tried just tell the band being currently used (in my case 7) but nothing tells you what is available (on Mediatek you can use engineering mode) does a mode exist for QC snapdragon?
But : are you sure your are getting 4g+ and not only 4g?
Because many xiaomi phones including the 5 plus don't have interband carrier aggregation on bands 3+7 (only intraband which is used in China).
There is however a patch on the miui forum to enable it. But some users have reported that the resulting speeds are slower than 4g. Others haven't said anything.

Yes, search Google for the ### code tu access the engineering info. You can see the bands there.

There are at least three versions of this same model (not variant);
First, the chinese version that was the first available in stores like Aliexpress, Gearbest and others (I bought this), it has firmware only in chinese and english and then to solve this some sellers flashed international rom to devices that were dispatched for other places in the world out of China and some devices came unlocked out of the box.
A second version precharged with international firmware (by the manufacturer) with more languages for the great demmand in the world.
These two previous versions came with the bands 4G: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8 and there´s no way to enable more bands cause is a limitation hardware related.
A third version Global that came with the bands 4G:FDD LTE B1: 2100/B3: 1800/B4: 1700/B5: 850/B7: 2600/B8: 900/B20: 800MHz for a difference about 25Usd at starting in february; in red marked the added bands.

Mine is MEE7 version, there is no substantial differences, most likely is a method to mark the batches simply.
This version is the first chinese anyway the second has the same bands enabled, only the differences are the firmware pre-installed. Other simply way to check this is that this version came into a box very red with all chinese letters and the second comes in a red-orange-ish. Yes, sellers unlock bootloader in this first version to can flash international firmware more easily and without risks to brick device.
If your carrier works in the band 7 for 4G and also 4G+ then it has to work normally, Many countries don't work with the band 20, any of the bands allows implement the most advanced features so them depends on the carrier it mean that an operator can improve the reachability in a band but improve the strength signal in other; first option is most used in cities with less population to reach great distances and a second is used to improve the quality when demand it's highly required.
No worry about OTAs, updates, miui 10, this version is absolutely functional and working great.

Hi
If you can get hold of an O2 SIM try and see if it will work in your phone, if it does you have Band 20 (800), as O2 only use Band 20 in UK.

No, I´m very prideful for this device, it´s not a fake at all, the great difference is only the two bands enabled in the global (really) version but I didn´t need this.
There is something that I noted like a difference within miui roms and any aosp based rom, the signal in aosp roms is slightly better than in miui roms. A simple way to see the strength is going to Settings/about phone/status/sim status you will see a range normally between (in my experience);
- In aosp based roms it´s -83 to -91
- In miui or miui based roms it´s -91 to -97
When the level is more (in a negative scale) it´s mean better signal. That´s about cellullar signal not specifically the uploading/downloading of data, for this there should be an application in Play Store also some custom tweaked roms can improve this.

Ok so i'm getting 83dBm 57 asu? don't you mean when the level is 'less' in a negative scale i.e the lower the better?
Yes, i'm pleased by the phone, just a bit worried about future updates, to be honest (with regards to it being a foreign ROM on a Chinese phone) i don't use my data much (only when travelling abroad or journeys within the UK) otherwise i leech from wifi...looking forward to MIUI 10 (and fingers crossed an Oreo update in its wake)

No, definitely you don´t have nothing to worry about, remember that really all R5+ are chinese, I just referred to a chinese version to indicate how it´s recogniced the first version but Xiaomi considers all these versions like upgradable.
You have an excellent signal strength, you forgot the symbol (-) and it´s correct the stated before, in a positive scale a superior number is more and in a negative scale an inferior number is in the same way by the logic of the opposites; more.

Question FM receiver or not ?

Hello everybody. I'm a newcomer here, and own the Samsung Galaxy A 52 5G (model SM-A526B/DS).
Unlike other Samsung devices I own or have owned, there's no radio app on it so far.
I've found several contradictory information about this on the net : some pages state there's an FM chip on the motherboard of the device, and others state the opposite.
So I'd like to know if someone here has the right answer. I don't want to use my data nor to empty my battery listening to radio apps, whereas former devices allowed me to listen to radio using only my headphones.
I also read somewhere - don't remember where, sorry - that rooting the device allowed one to use F-Droid (which I already installed for other purposes) to install a radio app called Spirit. But I first need to know if there's a radio chip on it, or it would have no interest otherwise. Though I intend to root the phone... one of these days...
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi, there's no FM radio chip on A52 5G.
Yes, there is.
I own an A526B/DS and it has an FM radio and the Radio app preinstalled. Maybe it's a regional thing? I have the UK model if that makes a difference. But I can 100% confirm that my A52 5G has a working FM radio as seen by the attached screenshot.

Thank you for your answer. As you said, maybe it's a regional thing : I'm in France. I sent Samsung a mail, and am waiting for the answer.
I wrote Samsung an inquiry mail, and just received an answer. I paste the translation here :
"
[...] I am following up on your message about the possibility of listening to the radio directly on your smartphone without using an Internet connection. To do this, your mobile must have an FM receiver. This chip, directly integrated into the motherboard of your phone, will allow you to pick up the waves emitted by the radios.
Some smartphones do not have an FM receiver.
Your Samsung Galaxy A52 5G does not have Radio.
The Radio application no longer exists. This is not a malfunction of your phone. When updates are made, some of the old features disappear to make room for new ones, depending on the memory of the device.
If your smartphone does not have an FM receiver, you can always turn to podcast services. Most major radio stations offer this type of offline listening.
- Open your web browser;
- Type in the URL of your favourite FM station;
- Then select the podcast section in the navigation menu.
In addition, the phone can work with third-party online radio applications that require an internet connection.
In the Play Store you will find a multitude of radio applications to choose from.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I wish you a pleasant day!
Sincerely yours, [...]"
So it seems to be a regional thing indeed. I should have bought and ordered mine in the UK...
Maybe Ill be able to use Spirit if I root the device. But I won't ask Samsung about it...
Thanks for the answres anyhow.
And a 2nd mail from Samsung taught me today it's a territorial restriction indeed : the Australian version for instance has got this radio chip...
I bought mine in Belgium and it has the Radio app as wel and it works!

Dear friends,
I read on gsmarena that the A52 5g has an fm radio.
After that, I bought it here in Greece, but when I opened it, I didn't find a radio app.
I don't know if it has the fm radio chip.
Is there any chance it has it disabled and I can somehow enable it?
What do you say;
Thanks!
