Hello
in the last few weeks i got some emails of ppl who had problems charging
their XDA's. So i decided to redo my Mod and make a few new pics.
First of all it seems like XDA Charger can't filter fluctuations in the powerline hence the fuse that is supposed to make sure your XDA wont be fried blows and you cant charge it anymore.
The fuse itself seems to be a 1.5 AMP fuse, unfortunatly i wasnt able to get one of these babies in...i could have used the 3.0 AMPs but i thought it
might be smarter to stick with the specs.
So where to get it from? Fortunatly i discovered that the same fuse is
built into the XDA twice. The second one is responsible for the extended battery pack, which i dont use. Perfect for my mod
Please DO NOT do this if you dont know anything about soldering.
I was just lucky Just call and expert...most will do it for free or charge a small fee.
@Peter Poelman : i hope you like this one better
Okay...lets start with the pics...
its upside down...lol
lucky the ones who preview
sorry for that
Before i forget...after this mod you should not use an extended battery pack anymore....i bought a 1800mAh battery from expansys.
which lasts me for 7 hours hard PDA gaming fun...
Aquasesh,
Your post will quite probably save my day as I have pluged the wrong cable in my XDA.
But I'm quite unclear on the exact order of your picture. I've seen it's been posted in reverse but I'm still confuse.
Could anyone put numbers instead of my X so that I can next search a techni guys to have him do it for me.
. X X
. X X
. X X
. X
Tanguy
Ignore the bottom picture, then read right, left, right, left, right, left.
Where's the blown fuse?
I know it's been a while since you must have done this but how do I get the top cover off. I unscrewed the one black screw I could find and managed to get the 4-way cursor button out but I don't see how to get access to the front to do the soldering.
Thanks,
Daniel

after solder the wallaby fuse...don´t work
hi
I have solder the fuse one month ago...and works fine...now after charge in my car the wallaby stay´s off...try to solder the fuses again...but nothing.
Is my wallaby dead?
to all
better replace fuse with same value, not bigger or with wires, and check your charger, maybe voltage is too high.otherwise you'll damage your device.abnormal voltage input may fry your xda.
hi
one month ago i have solder and dont put a fuse...whne i charge in the car the led turn off and never wake up again...so may be my wallaby is dead now?

manythanks
Hi
I removed the battery a lot of hours...and nothing
anotther sugestion please?
i dropped my phone in the gym changing rooms today and i think that is the reason it won't charge any more ):
my beautiful HD2 is dead ):
i can't take it to T-Mobile because i have a custom ROM on it and it would void the warranty and they wouldn't fix it
and i can't put a standard ROM back on because you need to charge your phone over 50% battery!!!
all i simply ask is that someone near me could maybe lend me a battery or their own battery so i can have enough power to flash a standard ROM back on so i can take it to a T-Mobile shop and get this problem sorted out, it would really help alot.
it's been dead 10 mins and i am lost without it.
seriously, anyone from
cambusnethan > wishaw > north lanarkshire > lanarkshire > scotland
fancy helping me out?
dude, sorry to hear about the issue!
but you should know that the 50% battery requirement is only applicable if you are flashing via the usb cable while your device is in windows. however, you can still flash (via the usb cable or using the "sd card method") by placing your phone in "boot loader mode". this by passes the 50% battery check, so its worth a shot if you have enough battery, like say about 20%...i guess it would be a bit dangerous if your battery is below 10% because the flash might get interrupted if the battery runs out, further compounding your problem.
i personally recommend the "sd card method" for flashing a stock rom because this will revert BOTH your custom rom as well as your hardspl back to stock state in one go! and i believe that is exactly what you want!

thanks for replying,
yeah i read before flashing from sd card wipes hspl and i've done it before too but right now my main battery is dead and the spare (ebay knock off, hd2 fake battery) is sitting about 20% i think
not sure if i should put it in to risk it?
also, because its fake, it's got about 4/5ths the battery life of the real hd2 one :/
at 20% of a real battery you should be able to flash a half dozen times easy.

the main battery is dead, it's the spare cheap ebay one that still has about 20%
it drains faster than the normal one.
yea, what i meant was it should be good for at least 1 or two flashes. just dont let the phone sit in bootloader any longer than you have to, it seems to chew through power, being on teh bootloader screen. (i do all my flashing from bootloader, never really monitored it, just a feeling.)
if ur not in a rush just buy a battery charger that will charge externally and alternate between batteries. looks like there are some on ebay for under 10.00. just throwing out another option.
thanks for your reply, i would buy another spare battery or charger but i am broke.
i am a student, i'm not exaggerating but i couldn't afford to pay 10
i need a job so bad

You're a student, you're broke and yet you afford a 400-500GBP device...
Anyway, you're a student??? THINK.
Look around you, realise you are surrounded by 200-1000 broke students with the latest expansive mobile phone.
Ask them randomly or ask your student association to ask around.
End of problems

good forum name for someone with a hd2...
it's on contract dude, my brother pays for it and i owe him it all at the end of the 18 months.
I know there is a Japanese site (I think its Japanese) out there that someone posted a person taking apart the Archos 70IT SD Version .. is there anything out there showing the same thing but for the 250GB version ?
I'm interested in seeing how they did the HDD installation .. to see if it would be possible to replace the HDD with a Solid State Drive .. so in other words, take out my 250GB spinning crap and replace it with a 256GB Solid State .. that would be sweet .. if possible.
WoW .. 94 people have read this and not one response !!!
Here I thought people were geeks and knew all about these things !!!
Anyone open their device yet?
I am also quite interested in this idea. From what I read, they built a custom hard drive which was ridiculously expensive. I'd like to swap out the drive for performance/speed and heat and weight of the device.
Has nobody opened theirs up? I just got mine, so I'm not quite ready to void my warranty just to take a peak.
In the past with previous hard drive models, Archos prevented you from swapping out the hard drive for one of your own by linking the drive serial number with the unit it was installed in. Only Archos could change out the drive. As I said, that was the way they have done it in the past. I don't know if they are still doing that.
Bye.
No response to this eh! Well I voided the warranty on my 70IT-h and have dropped it, had it slide down my angled driveway, screen down, in the rain with never a problem but some minor scratches. But a few weeks ago I dropped it off, accidentally from the top of the basement stairs where it landed on concrete did the hard drive die. It still boots but I have no storage space at all.
So I've taken the thing apart and found the hard drive is just a Seagate Momentum Thin with what appears to be a SATA 3 connection.
I did some searching on the internet and found that someone had taken the HD model apart and had connected the drive to their computer. I remember when I replaced the drive in my old AV320 without problem since it was just simply storage in that product too.
Long story short rather than buy a new 250gb Seagate thin, I've instead bought a OCZ Agility 60Gb SSD. I get it early next week and I can't see any reason whatsoever why it won't work, in fact it should give me better access speed, increased battery life and make it lighter which hopefully means I'll stop dropping it.
I'll post the results afterwards and let the forum know how it goes. In case anyone else wants to do it.
awesome! thanks for the update.
I completely forgot about this thread. A few months ago I dropped mine and it fell on the side and broke the volume up button inward. I had to take it apart and solder the volume up and down and the power button back into place. Works great again. Since I was in there, I took a peek at the hard drive. I didn't have time to play around with it much at the time though.
Anyway, I noticed an SSD should fit in there without a problem. I just didn't have one lying around to test. So, yes, please let me know how it works!
There is a thread on archosfans.com where someone put a 1TB drive into his A70H.
Hey all,
There doesnt appear to be a topic specifically on this(I have searched) so I have to ask.
Does this cripple the phone for you?
My personal situation:
Have an x10i
Long time SE user
Planning on upgrading in the next month
The two cons with this phone for me are the lack of an SD slot, and the battery. With google music and the like I can totally deal with the SD failing. But the battery, its got me totally conflicted. Ruining a dream phone. I've had several SE phones and their programming isnt great. Even just the other day my X10 crashed twice and I had to pull the battery. This is what worries me.
Thoughts?

No and no
The phone has built in reset button combinations (hard-coded so will always work). I don't see other than that, why the battery thing is a problem Unless you plan on keeping the phone for a very long time (read: to the point where the battery cant hold a charge) it's not worth losing sleep over. There's a few threads on how to remove the battery I believe as well, and by then your warranty will be up anyways, so who cares if you unscrew the back .
The no SD thing is also not a problem with the amount of internal memory available + USB OTG support

Ah jaysis, there were big rants about this on another forum and there was ZERO mention of the fact that it had a hardcoded reset.
*waits for burfday cash so he can run to the shop*
Thanks.
@Mods: feel free to close.

1st. The 32gb seams to do me at mo (may not be good for app hoarders) at the end of day the battery will die before watch 1 season of (e.g family guy) or half way through 1 good space hungry sd using game, so why do you need it full up. 2nd. Batt is not a problem unless you carry spares around with you. Hard reset = (power button and vol up) works same as pulling the batt out. this was my same worrie when read about it myself at first.
well, i forced a bootloop to test the "hard shutdown" and it works
Think about the HTC X devices, they are only coming with 16gb and dropbox as backup.

That's the one s. The one x has 32gb, just like xperia s.
About the sd card slot. I really don't miss it. 32gb is more than enough memory for me. In my old phone (htc desire) I had a 32gb sd card and never took it out of the phone. If you need some removeable memory for whatever reason usb on the go will do, but I doubt I will ever need it.
The the battery. Well running around with spares is not something I ever did. I usually just bring a charger or usb cable if I'm away from home for a while. If you are in places where you have no access to power, you could allways buy an external charger. That would basically do the same job as extra batteries. If you're worried the battery may wear out over time: it is removeable if you unscrew the back. So It can be replaced if needed.

Yes, the X has 32, same as us. Given how much stuff I have installed I would think I would have less space, my 4S was a 32gb and it was mostly full with half the apps and a few more pics and videos.
+1 about the charger, I have some old Nokia N882/N95 micro USB cables that I use as backup and might even buy:
http://www.obostore.com/2000mah-hbt-micro-usb-portable-power-bank-charger-p-4232-c-103.html
as a backup battery option.
Hi,
few months ago we were on a holiday and my mom took her Lumia 920 as a camera. All was going well, but one day when she opened the app, the screen was dark. After closing and reopening it was super overexposed, almost white. After next restart it was dark again.
She got scared and tried to restart the phone, but after shutting down the phone didn't turn back on. We left it on a charger for quite a long time but it didn't take the charge. I didn't think much about it since the battery was almost dead anyway, kept it's charge only for a half of a day, so I ordered a new one with SIM card contacts that got stripped in an accident.
Today I changed the SIM contacts, everything seemed nice, replaced the battery with new one (old one has exactly 0V, which is a little bit alarming), assembled the phone and nothing. Won't turn on, and on USB charger with ampermeter it shows 0A drainage, so it doesn't charge at all.
What can I do to revive it? My mom loves it as a camera since it is small and has really great optics. Even if it won't come back, how can I restore the data that was inside? It has about 50 GB of photos so it would really suck to lose it.
Thanks for any ideas
Hi,
did you already reset by pressing on/off and vol-lower together for at least 20 seconds? You can do that also while trying to charge. It worked fine for my 920.
Best regards,
Joachim
Hi,
yes, I indees tried this method with no such luck.
Thank you for your reply though.
Franta
Hi there,
I know this is an old thread but I had a similar issue and it turned out that the cable going from the USB port to the motherboard was torn.
You can buy a replacement for just a few monies and fit it very easily if you still have the phone.
I hope this helps someone
