messaging service stopped working - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Upgrading

[solved!]
hey guys.
something weird happend on my athena. all of a sudden, the messaging service stopped working. "messaging" wont open. even the sms feature of spbdiary wont load. i cant receive sms. i simply cant send/receive sms. even if i use different applications for sending sms. i dont do rom upgrades. and i havent installed/configured anything today.
anybody knows what i should do first? im hoping there might be a workaround other than a hardreset. i already did softresets a couple of times.

Try flashing Mitchy's rom.

the thing is, after reading all through the horror stories here at the forum, concerning flashing roms, im still hesitant to do it myself.
unless maybe you can guide me through all the way tootalk?
i have x7501 bought from the states. also, in a few words, what are the best things that mitchys rom have?
im surprised nobody else had experienced this problem before.
ciao!

if you installed any of those "lost and found" tools, then that's most likely the problem
since i had exactly your problem, until i removed those programs.
those programs might be good,
but unfortunately, it takes your SMS hostage, and wont release it.
making your SMS useless.
so i opted to have SMS, and well too bad if the phone gets lost, then it's lost.
yay! time to buy a new one the perfect excuse

hey allgamer,
what do you mean by "lost and found" tool? you mean like those security apps that sends messages to the owner just in case the phone got stolen? i have two of those installed, but i installed them a couple of months ago, and i never had any problems concerning them.
i'm now researching on how to flash my rom with mitchy.

Sorry for the delay dude. Shoot me a PM with your yahoo or AIM/AOL id and I can walk you through the steps to flashing with his ROM. To be honest, it's way faster and better than any factory ROM. I'm at the point now where If I don't even want to touch any PDA's with factory ROM's anymore lol.... I suggest you read up on how to CID unlock the phone first before you anything else.

messaging comes back if i remove memorycard
the messaging service works whenever i remove the memorycard, so i'm beginning to think that there might be an app that's messing around with the system.
another problem though, after i put back the memory card, the system created a "memory card" folder on the root file system. and the real memorycard now is called "memorycard2". the inbox folder has been created inside "memory card" folder.
anyway, i'm trying to muster up my courage and am going to accept tootalk's generous offer of helping me up with my very first rom flashing.
UPDATED:
i renamed the folder "memory card" which the system created, to "memory card err" and then rebooted. the messaging service is now back to normal.
but i'll still check out on the flashing.
ciao!

What do you guys do with old SMSes?

Hey all..
First of all, im a noob here, and I have tried to search the forum regarding this issue but nothing seems to match exactly what Im looking for.
I have recently gotten HTC HD2, my first ever cool phone. I thought it was so great that it could handle everything. I have used my phone like 6 days now, and im starting to notice significant delay in its performance, especially when it comes to messaging. Huge number of smses in my inbox is my main suspect. So, is it common for the phone to slow down when the inbox gets fuller? Is there a remedy for this, like can I store the messages in other places instead of inbox? What do you guys do to tackle this issue? Or do you guys simply delete old smses?
Regards
i know what u mean but i doubt there is such software
or a need for one..
personally i dont see the point of all the messages in there my max message count was 100 average 15 then delete

If you want to keep them but get them off your phone, sign up for My Phone with Microsoft and archive them from the web interface. They'll be removed from your phone and you can still get them online. You can get them back on your phone by moving them from the archive back to your phone from the web interface.

There's also PIM backup that can be found on this site. You can back them up from there but you can't choose individual messages.
Thanks for your quick reply guys. Looks like i've to live with it. Previously I was using an ancient phone, nokia 6680. It used to have the same problem. And I thought my main problem will be over when I switch to HTC HD2, but nope.. Looks like I have to either delete the old msgs, or back it up some place other than in the phone.
By the way guys, try Jeyo Mobile Companion. Its less than 2MB, and it is very usefull. U can store and manage your msgs easily when you connect your phone to your computer. Very easy to use, i like it.
Myphone has already been suggested and you can save messages on there its a great way and you can go through it on the pc so you can delete items you don't want

[Q] How to stop OTA update notification after update has been downloaded??

So a couple of days ago I updated to UEKME via PhantomHacker's StarBurst ROM, and right afterwards I noticed I continued to receive OTA update notifications from my Samsung account. So of course my first step was to change the settings in that account so that the device no longer looked for updates, however it appears that the update had already been downloaded or received. So then I started thinking, maybe if I could just find that downloaded update file, I could delete it and fix the issue that way. But after exhaustive searches, I have no idea where such a file could be. And of course all the while, I continue to get those damn annoying update popup notifications, with no way of stopping them.
Has anyone else either 1) encountered the same problem, or 2) know where the downloaded update file could be or what it might be named? Someone in another thread said it would be in the root of the SD card, but that I can confirm is not the case. And I performed a full system search of the term "update" and found no file, so that's why I'm wondering what exactly that file's name might actually be.
I'm looking for an answer to this as well. Thanks.

Cool, at least I'm not the only one having this problem!
Just an idea... since you use Starburst you don't need OTA anymore.
What happens if you remove the Samsung account, do you still get update notifications?
I have the exact same issue. The update downloaded before I flashed the custom ROM, so it keeps letting me know that an update has been downloaded and if it should be applied. Even if I hit do not remind me, it still pops up.
I think finding the update data and deleting it would solve this problem. Problem is, nobody seems to know where the update data is downloaded to. I've asked in a couple of different threads, but no dice so far.
Let's hope someone comes through with an answer

Ok well I'm giving this a shot, only I've found that one can't just delete the Samsung account in the more obvious fashion, that is by going to Settings-->Accounts and sync and simply deleting the account there (in fact it is not possible to do it this way, it simply won't let you as apparently "other programs" are using the account). Instead, using Titanium Backup I located the app called "Samsung account" and uninstalled that app. I have now done that, and (so far) I haven't gotten another update notification. But I'll give it more time and will report back with my findings over the coming hours/days.
Not sure 100%, but if you stop the Software Update service you should be able to remove the account. Or the radical way, you can remove all accounts with Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
Ah crap, well after removing the account (i.e., uninstalling "Samsung account" app), about 2 hours later I awakened my tab only to find that damned update notification pop up, so obviously that didn't work at all. I guess we are now just stuck with waiting to see if someone can actually find the correct file that one must delete in order to stop this incredibly annoying and frustrating phenomenon from occurring. Damn.
One more little thing I'm now trying - while looking through things again in Titanium, I found another apk that I believe was called "Software updater" or something similar to that, so I've tried uninstalling that using Titanium. I have since rebooted and have the tab running, so as with earlier I'll keep checking in on it to see if the update notification comes back, or if by some miracle this fixes it. Fingers crossed, because after this I'm going to begin getting ready for a full wipe and build things back up from scratch.
UPDATE: things might be headed in the right direction after all. Before uninstalling this particular apk (the Software Updater), I used to be able to reproduce the typical "software update successfully received - do you want to install?" popup by going to Settings-->About tablet-->Software update-->Update, and when I'd click "Update" I'd get the notification...but now when I try it, it does absolutely nothing. So I have a feeling this might have done it. So again basically I have killed both the Samsung Account apk and the Software updater apk (uninstalled them, that is, using TB). If I don't get another popup by tomorrow morning, we can consider this a success....
Ya, I thought so. I still want to know where the updates are stored. There must be a file written somewhere and when that file is present the update is trigerred.

Agreed, you're right that has got to be the case, but where is the million dollar question. But so far so good at my end with the removal of the Software Updater app
FIXED
I think I can now confirm that the problem is fixed. The key is apparently uninstalling the "Software Updater" app using Titanium Backup. I also removed the "Samsung Account" app in the same way, but the Updater program seemed to be the real key (but I would still remove the Account app since obviously you don't need it). Good luck!

[Q] GALAXY S2 I9100 cannot send sms

Hi,
Since yesterday i cannot send any sms/mms.
The mobile is able to receive sms but when trying to send a new message i get a sending..... status and that's all. The message is not send.
I have checked the Message center number it is Ok
When changing my SIM to another phone ......it works
I contacted VODAFONE to send the setup.....they did it but nothing
I DO NOT WANT TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE.
Does anybody knows something?
Service stopped or anything?
Backup all your stuff and perform a factory data reset...it will fix the issue.

Hi snest,
I have the exact same issue, since 5th-Feb-2012. It seems to be related to the stock messaging app. Don't have a clue what went wrong, but it just stopped sending messages. I have no issues receiving though...
I've checked my logs and I didn't install anything. Perhaps I did some updates, I'm not sure...
I also called Vodafone PT to check if everything was ok, and it was.
So I decided to start my own testing in order to try to narrow down the problem.
1st test: different SIM. No go, same problem, which means the problem is on the phone.
2nd test: restore the latest ROM backup (CWM). It worked. I was able to send/receive SMS flawlessly. The only problem was the backup date... it was 2 months old. My bad.
--> At this point I realized that the problem was on the messaging app. Something messed with it.
3rd test: Install a messaging app from the market and re-test. So I flashed the current ROM back (I backed up just before test #2), and when it came up I re-tested. No go. Then I installed the Handcend Messaging app from the Market, tested, et Voilá. It works.
I tested the stock messaging app once again and nothing, but from Handcent works like a charm.
So it's proven: the problem is on the stock messaging app.
A hard reset will solve the issue for sure, but before going there I'd like to try to reinstall the stock messaging app, if possible...
If your S2 is not rooted yet, a hard reset is the (only) way to go. I don't see any other way to solve this...
Cheers
Hi, I had a similar problems a little while after I installed handcent. SMS stopped sending. I had done some messing around removing bloatware with titanium prior to that, so assumed it was something I had done. I went back and defrosted all the apps I had frozen, but SMS still not working :-( I then thought to reinstall handcent, after which the problem disappeared , so in my case it was the other messaging app causing the problem!
My advice would be to try a different SMS app and see if that fixes the problem. Might be enough to get things going again.

This was the reason why I installed Handcent - to try and "wake up" the stock messaging app. Handcent works flawlessly, but it didn't solve the original issue.
I never had any other messaging software installed before, and my bloatware was removed a long time ago (October 2011) right after flashing a new Android version (2.3.5). So this was not the root cause for the messaging app to stop sending sms...
Go SMS Solved the problem?
Hi All,
Thank your for your replies.
I installed the Go SMS and merely resolved the problem of sending SMS.
But still I can not sent via stock messaging apk .

Try clearing data from your Messaging app from menu > applications > manage applications.
Unfortunately cleaning data did not solve the problem.
Factory reset. Or do a clean flash of GB stock rom.
Same difference, pick your poison. You may not like it but that's the only thing that's going to fix the problem (unless it is a network/apn/sim problem).
Most probably the Message centre Number has got corrupted...
Do this..
Open messaging ... Menu... settings..scroll down to Message Centre..
Note down the number ...
Either contact the network service provider...or first check the network provider support forums...to see if the number is correct...
once this message centre number has been corrected..you should be able to send messages...
I dont use Go SMS... but if you see the number there...you can copy it to stock messaging app..
I forgot to update this thread... Sorry.
I managed to isolate the issue, and found that the problem was on the messaging app itself (mms.apk) that somehow got corrupted. I tried to reinstall from an old APK backup, but it got worse, it stopped working completely.
After several hours and many tests, I ended up restoring a 2 month old CWM image (equivalent to a Factory Reset). Then I fully restored a 2 days old backup (Titanium Backup) leaving out mms.apk. Problem solved.
In your case, my advice is:
1. Install Titanium Backup from the market and perform a Full Backup (to SD card, otherwise you'll just loose it);
2. Factory Reset;
3. Setup the basics, access the market, and install Titanium Backup;
4. Full Restore (all files) EXCEPT mms.apk.
This is the only way to have the messaging app to work again with minimum (acceptable) data loss. Good luck.
Excellent advice Mnico

Hi macnaque.
Your problem is slightly different from the one that is being discussed on this thread... and a lot easier to solve as well.
It seems that your problem is due to a simple misconfiguration of the Message Centre number for your main carrier. Try the following:
- Boot the phone using your main carrier SIM. Then open the original Messaging app, and open "Settings". Scroll down to "Text Message (SMS) settings" and compare the number you have set under "Message Centre" to the one provided by your carrier. (you may need to check their website or call the customer support service to get it)
I had this same issue just 5 or 6 days after buying my S2. Somehow the last digit of the Message Centre number just... disappeared. Never happened again though.
Same issue fixed
I had the same issue on ShoStock rom on my SGH-I777, Put my sim in another phone and was able to receive messages just fine, BUt when I had my Sim out, I did a simple reboot on my phone and then put the Sim back in and rebooted the phone again and everything works just fine. I am pretty sure it had something to do with the efs folder and the IMEI number because when the sms wouldn't work, I could not open the efs folder but after the reboot and the sms working I can open the folder and view the contents,
I had the same problem. I tried everything and only installing rom by odin works for me.

Whatsapp is driving me insane..

This happened the first time I transferred my sim to my new phone. For a few days, Whatsapp just wouldn't verify. Then it got automatically sorted out. I have no idea how. Maybe you could just wait it out.

Yeah it didn't help i was on the whatsapp website for hours. Looking at FAQ's. Related Problems etc. I checked my connection's i can make calls and receive calls. Also can send and receive text messages. I checked to see if my roaming was off. I manually selected Vodafone UK. Requested Vodafone settings from Vodafone. I tried to use my mobile internet then my wifi.
I guess i will have to wait it out. It just sucks that all my mates are complaining that i have not been on all day etc.. And my gf and i are having to resort to using ****y kik messenger lol.. I hate texting i just don't know why.. But do like using messengers just feels better and you can backup your convo's easily..
Yeah.. I can understand. It sucks when WhatsApp gives trouble.
You can contact them and ask for a direct solution if it still doesn't work.

[Q] SMS/Text messages disappearing

Hi,
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't seem to find anything on it, and everything I did find seemed to mostly be for Froyo on much older phones... The cause might still be the same but don't know.
Anyway, I recently installed SynergyRom on my Galaxy S4, I'm also admittedly a hoarder of text messages, and have 11,000 or so text messages backed up through sms backup & restore. I kind of like having them all on my phone (yes, I've read before that sometimes restored messages cause minor issues, but I like it *shrug*). Anyway, I restored the messages to my phone, and eventually when I was texting someone, the stock messaging app got a force close, after which, all of my messages had disappeared. I didn't think much of it, restored again, and then today when I received a text the app force closed again, and all my messages disappeared again. Any thoughts?
Hopefully the answer isn't just I need to be less crazy about saving texts, but if that's really the cause, that's it.. Anyway, help/suggestions would be appreciated. T hanks!
Waiting for the answer too. I did not root my phone or anything, just the original phone from store. Sometimes the messages in message app disappear. The phone shows "there is no message", the only thing I can do is create new message. After I restart the phone, the messages come back in the message app.
I know by default in the messaging settings that there is a setting check box for "delete old messages....seems after so many message it will delete from a certain point...something like 200 messages...deletes oldest first. Go in and uncheck the box...see if that helps. Having that many texts is nuts...your a texting border...
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Yea, I know about limits, and that's definitely not it.. I've heard other people say the text messages come back after you restart, but I'm not sure if that's only if you restart right away without sending more texts.. Mine didn't come back after a restart at least, but I didn't restart until much later.. Thanks for the suggestions so far though!

I konw some data recoverying program will help to restore text messages from phone directly.
Not sure about retrieving from an app.
Visit CNET you might find something useful.
Was this ever solved? I'm having this too on STock mj7
