There's only one way to do an actual CID unlock on a G4, and that's to pay these guys to do it for you http://www.imei-check.co.uk. But, if you just want to flash various ROMS on it, then you don't need to unlock it. Just check out the first thread in this forum and the wiki.

I understand that there is not a free way to CID unlock a G4 device, but the question is, is there a way to just SIM Unlock it so you can use it with a different carrier? I understood CID unlock and SIM unlock is not the same.

That's right, CID and SIM unlocking are different. If you want to SIM unlock your phone, the only option is to pay that same company I mentioned. There is no free way to SIM unlock your phone still.

Yes, the lokiwiz program worked for me to SIM unlock my 8125 G4. I can't remember the details-- I vaguely recall that version 02b worked better than the 03 version. But yes, it works for SIM unlocking a G4.

Just be sure NOT to flash the button rom or any other "FULL" rom that contains IPL/SPL or you will ruin your device. It is not advisable to follow G3 instructions for your G4 device for this reason.
But, then again I am sure you already knew this because you read the wiki and the stickies right
Sim Unlocking a G4 8125
No disrespect to any of the developers here who have done shiploads of brilliant work to unlock the 8125's et al. Sadly though when reading you have to take a geat deal of care and read a lot of stuff to try to figure out what to really do because it would seem there is loads of half truth and uninformed comment being passed off as fact.
Having read 100's of posts here I launched into the SIM unlocking process and found that on my G4 8125 Phone that Lokiwiz version 0.2 threw errors and did not seem to successfully SIM unlock the phone.
So I moved up to LokiWiz 0.3a which contains LokiWizMSL.exe 845,932 Bytes. This package on my G4 Cingular 8125 running 2.25.0001 IPL and SPL, OS 2.25.11.1 and successfully unlocked the phone. When you run Lokiwiz look for the lines:
SIMLock Code is your code... Type it with another SIM in...
--------------------
Lock Status: 0100000000000000
SIMLock Code: 926***** <==== 8 Digit number
Write down the SimLock Code you need this number.
The one confusing thing is that is now totally obvious is that after you run Lokiwiz you need to swap to a SIM card from another provider to enter the code when the phone reboots, in my case I borrowed a workmates U.S. TMobile SIM Card and when the phone booted up it asked for the code that I generated above. Once that is entered your G4 phone is SIM Unlocked.
This part ain't that hard it is nerve wracking for us noobs tho.
Huge thanks to everyone whose work contributed to these tools, next chance I get I have you nominated for God.
Now I'm on to CID unlocking my phone to get WM6 and Touchflo on it. I suspect several more days reading will be required.

Unlocked Cingular 8125 G4
Thanks for the guidance.
Just installed Lokiwiz03a, ran the batch file, swapped cards, and put in the new code. Everything worked perfectly.
Thank you everyone for the software and tutorials.
YES lokiwiz03a worked flawlessly for my wizard G4 too, Now i have sim unlocked my phone, is CID unlocking same as making the device Super CID?
Easier Than Cutting Warm Butter
actually it is so simple and by the way : HERE IS A HINT:
I DID INSTALL THE ENABLERAPID.CAB AND CERT_SPCS.CAB LOCATED IN THE UTILS INFO.. AFTER I SWICHED THE SIM CARD REBOOT THE PHONE AND RUN THE lokiwiz03a.exe IT GAVE ME THE CODE.. I DIDNT HAD TO SWAP SIMS.. AND WOALA....
IT WORKS EASIER THAN MOST EXPECTED THINGS...
STOP PAYING $40 DOLARS TO UNLOCK THIS THINGS.. THESE IS A VERY NOOB GUIDE..
I AM ATTACHING THE RAPID.CAB
NOW I AM INTO MAKING MY CINGULAR 8125 WM6..
ANYSUGGESTIONS
Congratulations Phil!, I hope you find the way to CID-Unlock ours Cingular 8125.
I'll be readingo this post for future results.

Does anyone know if there has been any new developments on a free method of CID unlocking a G4?
I have tried the methid mentioned earlier, I get my 9 digit number, swap the sim to a locked network, enter the 9 digit number when asked, and it seems to unlock the phone, but as soon as it tried to register on the network I am presented with the network is locked screen again.....Unless I turn the phone to flight mode and then of course it all works fine (except the phone ) any ideas why this might be?
Syngress
This works
I would like to just say how grateful i am to everyone working so hard to make all our G4 wizard users' lifes a little easier. THANKS AGAIN.
Im wondering what I need to do to get the TouchFlo on my G4 Wizard without risking bricking it (i have enough horror stories to not want this to happen). So anyone with advice id very much appreciate it or links on where i can download it.
Thanks

Today, I used Lokiwiz 03a. I ran it and it unlocked my Cingular G4 8125. I am now using it on T-Mobile. I works. Plain and simple.

is anyone from xda-dev working on G4 simlock unlocking?
Is there any BOX ( I saw service boxes for smartphones like JAFWM, it says it can also unlock wizard but I don't know if this info is about G4 wizard)?
I know about IMEI-CHECK. Now I just can't pay for it. I live outside of GB.
Polish PAYPAL really sucks

Hello,
I tried the TOUCH 3.0, but after it gets to 1% update, the htc reboots and on the pc it says "image is corrupt, please check your updater utility" I have re-downloaded the touch and same thing happens, any help?
Thanks
You are probably going to get flamed for not searching, but I believe that means your phone isn't unlocked. If you haven't used Olipro's unlocker do that then retry the update. His unlocker isn't the same as sim unlocking just in case you didn't know. Good luck to you.
I did do search and I did come up with what you are saying that the phone is not unlocked, but it is unlocked, and I purchased it as an unlock phone, this is why I am stuck. So any help would be much appreciated.
From what I understand and read is that there are two unlocks that your phone needs. Sim unlock which is what your phone has and I believe IMEI unlock which it doesn't. Olipro's unlocker will take care of that. Using the unlocker either way is just a safe bet for making sure everything works well with your device.

you device needs to be cid unlocked not sim. Goto athena thread and dow nload unlocker from there. Use step one to unlock then you will be able to use this rom.

Are you trying to SIM or CID unlock?
SIM unlock G4 can only be done via calculated code, not direct unlock
cheers

It depends on the version of the phone,if its G3 lokiwiz02b will work, but if a G4,then lokiwiz03a will only work and generate a unlocking code.
Secondly, perhaps you are not performing the method correct, probably missing to complete some essential step. Read and do the method correct.
Try to use WinXP,its much easier and trouble free.
Hello,
how can I tell if my 8525 is SIM unlocked?
I bought my phone "unlocked", but then used ATT for service. If I end the service, will my phone revert back to being unlocked? And can an unlocked phone use Virgin mobile as a carrier? (I kinda doubt it, but maybe someone has tried it).
Should I use HardSPL 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7 - FIRST before trying the unlocking tool? (The Free unlocker by pof mentions it comes with HardSPL v1.40)
Thanks, all of y'all are extremely helpful. (and no I'm not being sarcastic)
to see if your phone is indeed unlocked, try to put in sim cards issued by different carriers, if you can make a phone call then your phone is sim unlocked. do the same test with virgin mobile (remember that you need to get a hold of the sim card to put into your phone in order to connect with the cellular network). if a carrier never issues any sim card then it'll be difficult to use your phone with their cellular service.
Also, if you want to unlock, flash hard spl AFTER you unlock as it will downgrade your spl to 1.40. You want 2.10 olipro for safety. With hard spl on yor phone its harder to brick it and easier to fix if something does go wrong. I also use the sd card method of flashing for preference as its harder to pry my phone out of my hand and resetting it with th stylus while I'm trying to kill you.... The pc can be reset, hang, have usb disconnected or have power outage... result : bricked hermes.... Hope this helps....
Thanks for the responses,
I can't use activesync because I always get errors, so I decided to use the SD card method. I want to install HardSPL (the new one) first, so my device won't get messed up, so I researched on how to install HardSPL via SD Card. I found out that that I needed to rename the .nbh file to HERMIMG.nbh, and then I needed to put it into the "root folder". There's just one problem... where is this "root folder" located at?? I searched the net, but I couldn't find an answer. Even if I make it to view hidden files, the only folders I see are :WMDRM and MSMETADATA
And again, .... if I unlock my phone, it will go back to being LOCKED after I choose a carrier correct? In other words, it's not a: once you unlock it, it will ALWAYS be unlocked.... correct?
I ask cuz my phone was supposedly "unlocked" when purchasing, and if it was ALREADY unlocked in the first place, then maybe I won't need to unlock it again.

it's always a good idea to catch up with computer vocabularies, otherwise you'd have more and more challenges following up moving forward.
try again with google, i did try searching for "root folder" and got a bunch of relevant hits explaining what it is and where to find it.

Hello All,
I have the Xperia X10 (SO-01B) from NTT Docomo, Japan.
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 2.0.52
Kernel version: 2.6.29 SEMCHost#1
Build #: 2.0.1.B.0.19
I have an unlock code but can't seem to figure out how to enter it into the phone.
When I put in either a T-Mobile or AT&T sim card, the sim card pic at the top of the phone has an "x" in it. I've watched the youtube video about unlocking and I don't get the screen to enter the code.
I've been reading a lot through XDA-developers and other sites and I'm getting conflicting info. Some say I need to flash a new ROM; some say I don't need to.
I'm not real confident flashing a ROM on this phone. Did it with my Treo years ago but I had a better handle on that phone...not so much with this Droid.
One last thing, where I'm staying only has an eMac for my use.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
If I remember correctly, all you had to do was pop in a different sim card (like a T-Mobile or AT&T) and restart your phone. The X10 would then prompt you to enter some sort of unlock code like a sim pin or something like that. With my once AT&T locked X10, any code I would enter wouldn't work. I suggest you fork over the $50 clams or so for a USB Data Cable unlock. It's a program that you pay for and download that gets you one unlock credit that unlocks
your X10. That's what I did and it worked beautifully. Just follow the directions, connect your phone to your comp, the flash tool will do its thing and it should successfully unlock your X10. Hope this helps.

thank you for the help and...
Yep, popped in the different sim card and restarted the phone. But I was never prompted to enter an unlock code. The phone goes right to my welcome screen and shows an "x" over the sim card.
Does the USB data cable unlock require a PC or will it work on a MAC?

Try pressing this combo from the lock screen when you got your SIM that works with the phone in.
Home>Back>Back>Home>Back>Home>Home>Back
That will get you in to the Service Menu. Then go in to the Service Info and press The SIM lock menu.
That gives you a screen that looks like the one i attached.
If your number next to "Network" says 0 you can't unlock it with a code.
Your screen will most likely have [ X ] when it's locked.

Believe you have to unbrand the phone there are other threads that talk about this.
BTW where did you get your code.
For Softbank , NTT Docomo etc.. you must get onto a stock rom ie an unbranded one for the phone to prompt you to enter the code.
If not you must do it using the USB cable method.
The unlock screen has been disabled on softbank and docomo firmwares.
I have the same problem~
