Hello,
My htc tytn works very slow and with errors with the cooked versions.
I am new to wondows mobile.
How do I get the latest official windows mobile without all the cooked applications?
There is no "Official" WM6.1. Its been ported from later HTC models. HTC stopped supporting the Hermes about 6 months or more ago and only ever officially made WM06 for it.
You will need to stay with cooked roms to keep it but you should look for the "naked" roms - OS only, no 3rd party apps.
Cheers...
Popular recommends?
What are some of the more popular "naked" rom/s?
Dvha79_ddt is one of the best, fast and very stable rom.

Stability?...
Thank you, FileFixer for link.
how "stable" is "stable"? I mean, i typically soft-reset two or three times a day with official HTC wm6 release. ROM upgrades average about the same? worse? better? Is it the same kind of stability issues i already have? freezes? screen display gets garbled?
2 or 3 times a day thats so inconsiderate of these people to make you pull the stylus out and press the reset button, or just click the screen twice lol.
Its part of life when you have a ppc, i must reset mine 6-8 times a day but its not a big problem. Install a naked rom and dont install any apps and see how it flys along
Blame the app makers not the rom cookers or htc to that mind,

Thas the HTC realise a version of wm6.1 for this device? sorry i`m not so familliar with this device cuz i have it just from almost 3days so i have a lot of things to learn
PS: I have the official wm6 for HTC Tytn is there a ROM more faster then this?(one without prb with wi-fi?)
Profy_X, refer to post #2...
I know what you mean. . .
I know what you mean about blaming the apps and htc. Certain apps would constantly make my phone crash and I've since uninstalled. One of the biggest offenders I've found was WisBar. Made my phone go crazy. Anyone else out there experience that? Or other apps that fit the description?
However, 6-8 resets is an awful lot. The only reason I want to upgrade to 6.1 is for the threaded tracking SMS. Are there any apps out there that offer that before i take the plunge and use a cooked ROM?
I also wouldn't mind getting rid of all that bloatware in at&t's ROM has that's hogging my internal memory.
I think you'll find that using a cooked rom will in fact speed up your phone as the bloatware uses a large amount of ram. I personally like the BS roms as most chefs add what is needed anyway. I like to keep some storage space on my Hermes and using the BS roms does that.
With the NBS roms I've used I can't put the core apps I like on.
However, if you want to keep the rom you've got, there isa cab file for threaded sms. Do a search and you should find it...
Cheers...
Wm 6.1 for AT&T
Have an 8525 & would like to put WM 6.1 on it. What's the best ROM for this version of the Hermes for speed & stability?
At the moment I'm liking PDACorner V27. Seems pretty stable and I've thrown a few things at it that HRed the other roms I've tried. I also like the Halloween rom V10 but I tend to find the fonts are TINY.... Even when I alter the font to the largest.
The truth is, each rom is a personal choice and what is good for me may not be for you. This is all personal preference....
Cheers...
Just guessing
Hi folks, have anybody tried to put TYTN II's WM6.1 Rom into a Hermes before?, I'm wondering if this could work but I'm afraid of fry my phone.
Thanks,
Freddy.

rfreddy, You need to research....
Wrong rom= BRICK... Kaiser rom (Tytn II) is not compatible with a Hermes UNLESS its ported... Do some research, port it yourself or maybe ask the chef if he might might port it across (don't hold your breath though)...

You can use nuefonts to easily put it back to the tahoma font. I haven't cared for any of the calibri fonts, especially if you use landscape mode very much, then it looks like crap!

I understant that most of you are flashoolics. But maybe some are like me
and are waiting for the perfect or almost perfect WM6 Prophet Rom.
Can i ask if that is your case ?
(Respects and admiration to: Cloudyfa, hma4, Gollum, korand)
Yes I'm waiting for a 'perfect' wm6 ROM...
I'm using Prophet Shadow Touch Edition from Cloudyfa and I think that's almost perfect
Just a little memory leak but reboot and bye bye ^^
Well the perfect rom won't come i think.. You can only cook a perfect rom by youself if you want it perfect as everyone is different and use their PDA's for different things, and therefore needs different software.. But it should be possible to get really close.. Iam using Prophet Shadow and i think it is allmost a perfect rom for me.. But to be perfect it would need Korand's roms speed and some apps that i use..
i think that this thread is useless
No perfect ROM
The problem is that diferent users needs diferent things, the perfect ROM shouldn't include a program in ROM that you know you'll never use. The only perfect ROM is a kitchen ROM.

I have to agree
I don't agree at all. The perfect rom would be just one that was bug-free.
I keep balancing between different roms because they all seem to have one fundamental flaw which isn't found in the others. The Touch series was pretty slow, sometimes unstable (for me) but functional, Crystal had unstable wifi and certificates problems, Shadow has a problem with the buttons in media player and k0ster's superfast rom has had bluetooth issues (these may now be fixed) and has now lost part of Office.
It would be wonderful if the great rom cookers could get rid of the bugs between them and then we could choose between different versions according to what they looked like or the included apps. Today its like picking the one which doesnt break functions too much.
Before you start on me - I know full well that people cook roms in their own time and I'm more than grateful for their efforts. I just don't get why they're still all broken.
The Perfect Rom will appear when the planets align, when the sky goes red and death drops from above!!!!
But seriously you can only make your perfect ROM yourself everyone has different expectations. Me personally, I like the Crystal v5.0 it seems stable only had one problem (that was solvable) so other than that you can’t go wrong.

I think your observation is very usefull. And I can admire the trouble that you have to write a reply.
Let me say that Da9L, WhiteWizard and jspacemarine have the opinion that the perfect rom is a rom with the apps that we need pre-installed.
Why ? Do we have that on i386 SO's ?
NO, i like to tweak and install the apps in my way, but with cabs in ppc.
Now littld have a better aproximation to the problem in my opinion.
A clean and 100% bug-free Rom, that is my point. Not a Rom with apps pre-installed, because i have brains and can install the apps my self.
The reference should be an official Rom, and when achieved, we start from there.
But that is me, and with that in mind, can you believe ?

Check this thread how to add/remove programs from ROM.

I think a (almost) perfect rom is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349338
but its only for the hermes. Seens to be very fast, with a lot of tweaks and big storage.
For my Prophet i´m using the "Vista stylish ROM ( NEOMAX )" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351103, wich
is very fast and stable.

That's not what iam saying.. Iam saying that the perfect rom dosn't exist because everyone is different .. As an example my perfect rom would be with all the software i use pre installed and bug free.. But that would probably not be a perfect rom for you.. Which means that the perfect rom dosn't exist..
BUT a bug free rom would be the most perfect rom you could get, that would be perfect for everyone..

Yes, yes, is that what i'm asking, i'm not requesting any rom.
But I-mate, qtek and others decided to not upgrade prophet to wm6, when we all know that he have nice specs. Market strategy or they know that wm6 would never fit on prophet like Vista does not fit on a pentium I.
The question is more like,
Do you think prophet can be 100% WM6 compatible. Not requesting a costumized rom.
Perfect or not perfect is just about need of something..
Perfect Rom for someone is not same as the others..
So.. I think ROM that I use is perfect...

1. I made the skin and its different from everything that out there.

If there are any problems I was hoping that the people who like it and would be able to help each other. I haven't had any problems with it other than running out of memory. But I do run alot of programs. I would like to know how stable it is on a touch since it has more memory than my titan.

The trend is all about the phone and what I have and what you don't. Since the marketing for the iphone has been very successful. Non nerds are invading the pda market. They all want to touch, stroke and feel all of my goodies.

Hey! You know, good job on the ROM. I can tell you put in a lot of effort and your intension's are in the right place. But I cannot say that would actually flash this ROM because I need to feel secure that I will actually be able to USE my phone after the fact. Also, I am not a fan of your UI graphics. I prefer a more sleek look 'n feel. Oh, and I like having lots of memory as opposed to running out of it...
I think this covers the list of requests for most people in your next version, if you decide to release one.
I call this skin "FASHION CUBE"
Here is my latest skin for the cube.
I think it has both a sleek and slick look.
Let me know what you think.
I am acutally trying to reduce the total amount of BMP to make a fast- stable - slick - sleeek- sweet.

Update
Hey, did you update the Zip Files with your latest. I am interested in testing.
Is there an opportunity to get a port of this awesome feature?
You know, what I'm mainly talking about is this kind of taskbar at the bottom of the screen and the with this linked programs that open. This would be awesome if someone could port this or has already done this.
If it's absolutely not possible to create this it would be nice to tell me why
Thanks in advance.
It is so much possible. But it'd consist of so many mods. It's a lot of work. You need to be making a whole launcher. I've seen WM6.5 on the HD2, looked awesome, but I think we'll never see this like a 1:1 mod.
Hmm. Ok, you say it's possible!
That's a good thing.
But I personally find it so hard to believe that nobody tries to do this... Ok, as you said, it seems to be quite hard and difficult and so on, but come on... There are so many guys, android community is so big and I can't believe there is nobody willing to do that... And I mean, it's not a crappy and ugly looking mod of a buggy whatever, it looks awesome and is so functional and in my view it would be used as launcher by so many people. Even just because it's so different to the 'standard-launcher' with this 4 or 5 buttons at the bottom of the screen and the widgets.

You will not (100%) get WM on the GS2. Totally forget that idea.
If, however, you're just after Sense then just use the search button and see the suggested apps and launchers that have been discussed before. It will make the phone look very similar.

I think that is talking about the old Sense, like in the Windows Mobile era. Not the Sense port from an Android phone. Atleast that is what I make of it

Of course I'm only talking about Sense of Windows Mobile (Sense of HTC HD2!).
I looked it up, everyone else is talking about Sense of an Android based device by HTC, but that's not what I'm looking for.
Why is that?
theres a such thing as theming and doing a custom ui and doing it in the style of old sence/manilla could be possible but as a direct port, its a no
So I don't know if 'port' is something special again, what I want is that it looks like on HD2 and has the same functions, not just shortcut-like.
But I thought 'port' would fit for that then.

Do you know how many people here are working on other stuff already? I think that no one will make a working android copy of the WM6.5 Sense interface. And nobody is willing to, it's too much work. They can't simply port it, they need to rebuild everything from scratch.
I indeed say its possible, but I am sure it will not happen.

Yeah for sure.
But as I already said, Android comunity is so big and hmm... I don't know, somehow I can't imagine that there are no other 'fanboys' of Sense of WM like me
I also have to say, I have no idea how porting something should work, why it is so much harder to port sth from another OS, I have no idea of all these things. So I don't want to be offensive or something, just want to get to know why this is like it is.

Do you think itle be easier to do if you had a zip file from this to do it,then all you have to do is make a script for it work and do the apk for it to work on android or make it compatible with an existing Launcher
Oh yeah. The theme has been uncrompressed from an ios format and put into zip format.take a look
http://www.mediafire.com/?jnnhtmjznmz
Do you have a video of this working? :O
Or do you know that it works just the way it works on HD2?
I have no clue why or who ever in Samsung development messed this up, but when you stream flash videos in full screen the notification does not auto hide. To me this is completely unacceptable as it ruins the possibility of "full screen" and it can actually damage the oled in these phones.
I think this fix should be a MUST for any developer currently making rooms for this phone. The only from currently that I know of that fixes it is Cyanogen.. but I do want a stable ICS and oh boy can't we all dream of a perfect aosp from... dreams of super fast clean friendly user experience...

They are still beta builds so stop moaning until we get official roms.

I think this fix should be a MUST for any developer currently making rooms for this phone.

And you feel that you can issue demands to the devs because...?? Why are you so special?
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms? The only thing I'm wondering is why has this not been addressed by the community? Why is this still "OK" and why are trolls immediately the only ones present in this forum?
There's a Q&A for ya..
Its funny how you think my suggestion is un warranted. I just desperately want to ruin my phone with burn in right?
It's not your suggestion, it's your attitude.

AS said above, it looks like your are running ICS which is in beta and has not been officially released, you are complaining about an unfinished, unofficially released BETA rom.
You may need some time of reflection and a lot of reading to understand what you are doing......
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms?
You answer your question yourself why build a rom based on a half assed buggy beta release .
Put in a very simple way . Why waste time on a buggy beta build that may be very different come release day .
When ICS is released and if a dev thinks its worth fixing your problem i am sure they will .

OK it sounds like no one understood , I will attempt to explain this better. This is NOT an ICS problem this problem is with EVERY rom including stock update strait from Kies. I went as far as contacting Samsung to get a fix, but as you can see in my profile I live in the US and the US Samsung will not help me with my UK phone. Why everything between us is so divided beats me but still the issue remains.
As I stated currently the only rom that fixes it is Cyanogen but just as JJ stated why use a buggy beta when the release will be much different/better. Also I am currently running ICS and have not encountered a single bug. Everything works perfect except for Samsung's stupid attempt to burn in my screen. I don't know about everyone else but I paid $580 for this phone and the last thing I want is a permanent" 3g" on my screen...

Then give us more information. Saying that streaming videos don't go full screen is no where near enough. What ROM, website, browser etc are you using because the last time I tried this (Not long after the S2 was released) it worked just fine. I tried a 720p video from megaupload and it went full screen just fine. Same with youtube/youtube app. Give more information, not attitude. Also, i'd wager than there is zero chance of your display burning in a 3G icon. Perhaps the full notification bar if you use MIUI/a white or light theme but I highly doubt the majority of people will experience any burn in, never mind such a small specific burn in.
Fair enough.. more info. I usually run completely stock and decided to play around with ics. A main site I stream with is twitch.TV (I am a big starcraft2 player and use the pro streams to get better) while I'm at work I watch for hours sometimes 7 hours straight. This WILL cause burn in.
When the problem occurs:
Watching ANY true flash video online(not YouTube app) while in full screen mode in any browser or Rom besides cyanogen.
If you don't believe me test it yourself. Go to twitch.TV pick a stream let the video load and click the full screen button. If you have a rom that the notification bar disappears let me know and you won't hear.me "moan" anymore.
Or maybe one of you super nice Brits can call UK Samsung and get an official fix. The number is 08702420303.

Does this work on the new ICS browser? I only see 2.xx on there. It would be a beneficial trade but I just started enjoying the new browser :/

Download the diff, check for relevant changes (there's not many for fullscreen) and mod your own browser. Before you ask, I'm not going to hold your hand on this one, and am not willing to do it for you either (I don't use an ICS ROM).
Not asking for any hand holding or hand outs for that matter.. one last question can it be done completely from the phone?
Actually nvm that browser mod will not work with ics. Even states in that post "should be comparable with 2.3.x roms.

Sure it will, you just have to be willing to put in some work. Namely, as I already said, downloading the diff, checking for relevant changes (I think there's only two changes relating to full screen) and getting them into your Browser.apk. You're probably going to need to do some reading.
Judging by this part of your post:

I'm going to make a guess you won't bother with this.
Hi everybody!
Im from Argentina, sorry if my english isn`t the best.
Saying that, im trying to use kitchen to make a simple rom for my forum in argentina. no one there knows about it..
And is my first samsung ever, before i had HOX, atrix, rzr hd... so im not familiar with some stuff like knox, the archive hidden and so...
My first project trys to run up form an FW, the ins 4.4, but i get stuck and change it for a nand of russian FW...
At that point i cuold use the system.ext4.tar.a just taking out the .a
I worked with that in the kitchen and im worry if i reput the worked system inside the nand something goes wrong, sadlly i cant afford to loose this phone cause of its price...
i was searching a lot and reading very hard this pasts weeks but i cant find any guides to cook a little rom so any help is wellcome
Ty for reading this.
Augusto.
Please define a real question. Right now I have an answer that is just some information. no real specific answers
Since the only thing you need to target is the system folder and the kernel Knox isn't even coming close, this also counts for the hidden partition. unless you want to make an odin rom.. but since you use the kitchen you probably don't want to use it.
My advise, take a look at other touchwiz custom roms, and see how they did it. There is no reason you would brick your device by flashing a valid system with CWM (which is less 'aggressive' then odin 1:1 write), if you don't trust it, first try using a zip from some other rom and make some customizations inside it.
If you are an actual developer, read this, although I think you can't handle the truth :silly:
The biggest thing that you will explore in your journey to touchwiz when you've made ROMS for HTC is that
a. Samsung has really easy flashing methods without risking a brick so fast. (compared to HTC it feels unbrickable), this is really the best thing about Samsung (When using the S series, Note series suck as well)
b. Samsung is the absolute world #1 in writing terrible firmware for relatively good hardware. (wasted space, sad work arounds, strange daemons, infected by many unknown things such as NSA crap)
c. Samsung absolutely loves to pretend their fail stock rom is great (which is what the average android user (without developing knowledge) would think), although they know it actually sucks donkey balls
(i can continue until 'f' or 'g' but I think you get the point)
Just letting you know that this extra partitions are not required, If you don't want to deal with either Knox or the hidden partition or w/e bull**** touchwiz roms come with, just use a rom base that actually is still Android, like an AOSP based ROM. which does not require many weird ways
Some people may be very angry when reading this but it's the truth, the truth of a South Korean company that makes good hardware but always finds a way to screw up their good hardware with terrible firmware writing (not only phones also smarttv etc).
