here is AP3 version (based on latest Dual) I made that will work properly if you upgraded to new SPL but want to go back to AP3 from the AP4 beta.
(only the kernel needed changes. the rest is the same.)
download:
http://htc-hackers.com/uploads/ap3newspl.zip
IMPORTANT NOTE: this will only work if you ran the AP4 package (prerelease, final (when it comes out) etc.) and your SPL now is version 3.xx.OliNex
if you are unsure about your SPL/bootloader version then check in bootloader/tricolour screen by pressing and holding the camera button (as far as it will go!!) while doing a soft reset - keep the camera pressed until the tricolour screen appears.
Not sure why people would want to go back to AP3 - but I'm sure someone will and this will help them.
Did you have a good time in London?
how safe is it? im thinking about going back to ap dual. I only really like the homescreen. I miss the high res mode in ie

just 2 questions:
- which is latest SPL version?
- in case I haven't, where to download?
thanks.
Does this mean that if I wanted to go back to AP3 I will not get the extra 20MB space back, and I can not install any of the existing athena roms without risk?

my understanding is that the olinex3.xx spl stays with the same available memory .
I and other people tried installing other roms but was unsuccessful and that is why Cmonex had to alter the ap3 to install with SPL3.XX.
I gather it would be possible to alter the other roms to install , but I dont know how to do this

if you want an old rom, Cmonex correct me if im wrong, all you need to do is extract the nbh file and take the os.nb from ap3 or what ever rom you want and it should work. I am not a pro at cooking roms but thats how i got ap4 on my device and i still have spl 1.2
note: i had to mod the os.nb file so it would fit on the old partition jsuk
can we only have the exe that turns off the auto rotation for the screen?
this is my only problem with the prerelease, it is the best rom i ever had.
thanks boys great work.
thanks for the ap3 for the new spl mine is 3.20 olinex, but no thanks, pre ap4 is the best.

Will there be a way to install AP4 and still go bo back to factory ROMs if and when needed? e.g. for warranty purposes? I know we've had the usual reasons that they do not check the spl at all, etc, etc but is it possible for it to be an option? In vanilla, perhaps?

dear, don't tell people to just go and flash the OS part of AP4 without the new SPL. unless they know how to delete files from the IMGFS to make the OS.nb as small as the original AP3.
your responsibility for making misleading posts where only a small note says what to do to avoid problems
oh and no, you need to do more than just extract the OS.nb, because the old kernel on new SPL will hard reset instead of soft reset.

correct, the partitioning stays the same. one day I will figure out how to do repartitioning at will but until then to get back to an old rom, you will need to change the NK.exe as I said. only the one from AP4 will work - I patched that one to work (x7510 nk.exe would boot and soft reset properly but would have problems with keyboard interrupt handling).
unless someone wants me to patch another nk.exe, but I don't think that it'd be a problem with warranty, they won't really be able to check the nk.exe version (i.e. can only be done manually).

no 20MB, for that you have to downgrade the SPL - there will be a package to do that after AP4 final comes out
by the way there is no risk, just the roms will not be able to do a soft reset (just hard), and other small problems such as RUU won't be able to put your device in bootloader (you can still do it manually of course). unless, of course, the RUU enterbootloader.exe is customized to run an SSPL such as in AP4 package - that's just to be more precise before someone chimes in that they've been able to flash back to AP4 from an unmodified AP3 with new SPL already flashed.

well the AP4 that was released was still beta, so if someone wants to go back to AP3, they can do it right now, no need to wait.
or if the device has a corrupt OS, they can reflash to AP3 with this, then flash whatever else they want. (though that works already with unmodified AP3 but it's a pain in the ass because of the reset loop thanks to the silly customizations)
oh, yeah, we did have a good time there, thanks for asking

thanks a lot friend.
I have some questions, and yes, I am slightly new to the HTC Hermes, so cut me alittle slack.
I have purchased a unlocked AT&T 8525(herm100), with a cooked rom for WM6.1. While it looks great, it seems to make the phone function slower, compared to the one I used with WM05 on it.
I would really like to make the device operate and respond much like WM05 did. Is this at all possible with WM6 or 6.1? Or would I be better off going back to WM05(if thats possible now)? If I should need to go back to WM05, is it possible to cook a rom, and remove and add things that I would want?
Throw me some Idea's here, I'm open to anything.
if you want fast just get a superstorage rom, those roms are faster than the original WM5 shipping rom
superstorage rom? Do explain please. Is it WM6.1? Where would I get it? is it hosted on the FTP? Also, could you point me in the direction for instructions on how to flash the device?
Do a search for hermes roms. There are a lot of good roms from faria, pays, schapps, tnt, PDAViet...... The list goes on..... They range from wm06 to wm6.1. I'm using Pdaviet 6.1 version 19213. It was just release but is REALLY quick. I suggest you read the threads to determine which is good for you as it is as personel a choice as what clothes you like...
As for how to upgrade, !st do some reading... It's recommended to flash Hard SPL onto your phone as it makes it easier to recover IF/WHEN something goes wrong. Check out this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Also, use the search function to find out "how to upgrade rom". There are some good tutorials by MrVanx and a lot of information on the wiki..
PLEAE READ A BIT BEFORE FLASHING... and make sure you only use a hermes rom.
Happy Flashing & welcome....
One more question. By flashing this, will it stay unlocked? and i keep seeing HTC TyTN(Herm627) for the roms for PDAviet. same with others, is this the one im wanting?

Herm 100 - aka 8525, jasjam, tytn, vario II...... all these are hermes... As long as you pick a HERMES rom you'll be okay. Cheers...
I just found out the firmware ID that is already on my phone.
ROM version: Faria.R-32
ROM date: 11/6/07
Radio version: 1.54.07.00
Protocol ver.: 32.86u.7020.23H
ExtROM ver.: BIGSTORAGE
This firmware just seems really slow. Im looking at trying one of these listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380433
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364031
Obviously this is a cooked rom. I don't know how it was flashed, and it may have HardSPL on it already. Will it harm anything if I install HardSPL 2.10 to my phone?
I've also read somewhere that the 1.47 radio firmware has better connectivity and battery life. Is this true, and would it increase my signal any? I get little to no signal in my house, but my wife's Razr gets 2-3 bars constantly, and we both have T-Mobile.
1st, go to bootloader(hold down power button, OK button above flywheel and then use stylus to soft reset. keep all three buttons pushed in until the tricolour screen comes up.) This will tell you IPL & SPL.
Pays is very good if a little older now and s64's rom is also good (but packed with 3rd party apps that SLOWWWEEED things down a bit to much for my liking).
Both good.
The rom you are using now is a bit newer. It should be fairly good too. I personally prefer PDAViets roms which are REALLY fast and pretty stable(ver 129400, 129701, 129900 and 129213.). Its really up to you though as your preferences may be at odds with mine.
As for the radio rom, This is the most "dangerous" part of the firmware flash with most bricks happening because of problems happening while being flashed. If you want to go ahead and flash this make sure its not gonna be a repeat performance. Find out what radio works best in your area & flash once. I would SERIOUSLY recommend the sd method to flash this. Read up on this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
Cheers...

At the risk of blowing my own horn, try my ROMs out. You can chose between bleeding edge (the development thread) or tried and tested (the stable thread).
They both come with minimal applications to be like a usable phone, but giving you the flexibility to do whatever you want with the device afterwards.
nice. looks like its
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
I do have one more question. I downloaded PAYS rom. It came with an EXE(RUUWrapper.exe and RUU_signed.nbh), it looks exactly like the HardSPL, do I just run that and it flash it? Or do I still have to go through all the other steps on the Wiki page for flashing the Hermes?
After installing HardSPL, connect your device up with ActiveSync, then run RUU_Wrapper.exe.
Follow the prompts.
CRC's are good... Like them....
According to you information about the bootloader it seems you are already set to push any Hermes ROM in your device
Hi there everyone.
I have just bought a new HTC Cingular 8525 but it is running windows mobile 5. I would like to upgrade but I cannot find any downloads or instructions on how to do so. I do not want to brick up my new phone. Does anybody know a download link to upgrade to the latest windows mobile version that will work on my phone. Its an american bought phone which is unlocked and I am using it in the UK on Three. It used to be locked to at&t and I am pretty sure much of the at&t rubbish is slowing my memory and speed of the unit. If I were to upgrade will the phone still be unlocked?
Rom version is 2.15.502.3
Rom date is 04/09/07
Radio version is 1.40.30.00
Protocol version is 32.73.7020.16H
Operating system is (build 15706.3.5.2)
I am all new to this and would appreciate any advice idiot proof I have flashed many PSPs and other things but nothing like this.
As I have just got the phone I am still trying to work out how to use it so I have no idea how to do a Hard or Soft reset and have no idea about the roms
Sorry to waste your time
Please help
Rob
You should read through the Hermes wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Make sure you install hardspl! If you install the "official" AT&T WM6 install hardspl again, your phone will stay unlocked, even with custom roms. If you flash one of the big storage roms, then go to try another, flash the "official" rom before flashing another custom rom.
Read the wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I would also suggest making sure your phone is "super cid" before flashing custom roms, you'll also be able to flash from an sd card if you are super cid.
Read a bunch before flashing any radio roms!!!
Read, read, and re-read before you flash, and you should be fine. They have made the process fairly straight forward, but you can never be too sure. I have never "bricked" my phone, and I jumped in with both feet!
Mustn't flash a lot then because if you did you will end up with a brick sometime... I've always been able to recover my Hermes but there is STILL the possibility it won't.... one day...

I guess I have been lucky, but I'm sure I haven't flashed as much as others on here. But, I tried to follow the wiki, and tried to learn from others mistakes before I made some of my own. So, I figure if I can flash my Hermes, others should be able to do the same. And I have read up on the issues for when you "brick it", just in case.
I flashed several roms from the beginning (when I got my hermes), and learned a bunch. Then found what I needed/wanted in a rom, and spent days and days and days reading through many threads to find ones that fit me. I actually tried not to flash too much, but that can be a hard temptation to overcome.
So, just trying to pass on what has worked for me, to avoid the hard resets and such.
I would like to attempt cooking my own rom, and have read through tons of info on it, and played with some kitchens. Still working on learning that stuff, it'll give you a good appreciation of what the chefs around here do.

With no avail. It wont even let me install the HARD-SPL as it just gets stuck in bootloader mode with the error 260.
I have no idea what to do now. This process needs to be simplified more

It tells you how to Hard SPL your Hermes with the sd card method. It also gives you ALL the apps needed.
After you Hard SPL your phone you can use the sd card method to flash a new OS. Flashing a new OS though requires you to drop steps 5 & 6 (you don't need sspl.exe once you have Hard SPL). Just remember though that the bootloader won't recognize any sd card bigger than 2gb...
Cheers...
Thanks for that. Its just now I have a problem where my phone is stuck on the Tri-Colour screen
Did you format the sd card fat32 (they are default format FAT) and rename the .nbh file to "hermimg.nbh"?
Is the sd card 2Gb or less?
You're on bootloader, is your SPL 1.09 des? If yes then insert the sd card and reset.
Cheers...
it might be an issue with activesync
i read somewhere before that activesync 6.1 won't sync with WM6 on vista machines.
I had to downgrade mine to ActiveSync 6.0 to get mine working again.
just an idea that might work
I have a HTC Hermes and I have been having some problems with my phone. I read on some threads that people have been having similar problems and a possibly solution would be to change the ROM and/or the Radio.
SO NOW I have been trying to update the ROM yet it keeps coming up with errors.
Errors: [222]- Device not responding.
[260]- Update Error
I have tried MANY things. Vista, XP, putting PPC in boot loader mode before hand, not using boot loader, changing settings of Active Sync (disable connection through USB). Each of these things have been tried off and on multiple times, to ensure the problem was not just a one time thing.
Please let me know if there are any known solutions. I am hoping this will solve my random hard resets, frozen screens, and data loss.
Pda: Hermes 100
Rom: Pays Lite
Radio: 1.16.00.00
Did you flash HardSPL on your device? If not, you may be stuck, depending on what the issue is. Regardless, if you're getting connection-related errors when trying to flash, you should try using another cable as that may be a contributing cause to your issue.
yes I believe I did. Actually when i go into bootloader it actually says Olipro (aka Hard SPL). And yes I have tried various cables, not just one.
Use sd card method.
1. Format sd card fat32 and copy .nbh file to it. Rename to "hermimg.nbh".
2. insert sd card in phone and go to bootloader (hold power, ok key above flywheel and reset with stylus, hold in until the tri-colour screen appears).
3. As long as sd card is fat32 and herimg.nbh file is named properly, follow the prompts.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF HARD SPL V7 IS INSTALLED (I know you said you have it but this is a warning for others)...
Cheers...
I have heard about this step but to be honest I havn't heard of file formats nbh. I have a rom that I am using now (which I do NOT want to use anymore) that has a nbh file in the folder. BUT the ROM that I want to use (TNT and 1.19 Radio) do NOT have this file format, it does have .nbf though. Is there a difference and could you please give me some more help. Maybe some advice about where I could get nbh files for ROMs?
Thank you once again
Pda: Hermes 100
Rom: Pays Lite
Radio: 1.16.00.00
An NBF file is not a Hermes ROM. The Hermes (and later devices) always use NBH files. (Well, not considering extracted .nb files)
EDIT: Under no circumstances should you try to flash non-Hermes ROMs! While the flashing would usually fail safely, do not take that risk. Always flash ROMs made for the Hermes.
Go to the wm06 forum on here, it has a heap of roms available to flash, most are now 6.1 but I have seen 6 now & then. Do a search for "Hermes 6.1 roms" and see what you come up with.
There are heaps of roms here so pick 1, don't ask whats best as each rom is a personal preference and what 1 person needs may not be for you so do some research.
You're lucky you haven't been flamed for NOT checking if the rom was for your device, though its early yet.....
Cheers...
It worked great thank you all. Now, I can test new ROMs and hopefully my phone will not continue to do the random hard resets and all. If it does I will continue to post on the thread.
Thanks again.
Just be aware that flashing the radio rom is the riskiest part of rom flashing. It has almost a 100% casualty rating of bricks if something goes wrong with the flash. For this reason most people recommend the sd card method as the safest (lets be honest, if you reset your Hermes in the middle of a flash or use a flat battery, you deserve a brick) as there are less chances of stuff-ups.
If the radio rom works well, LEAVE IT ALONE... Unless there is a MAJOR gain by upgrading its best to leave well enough alone.
Cheers...
So I did what you all told me to do. I used the SD to flash my ROM. I am now currently running TNT official Hermes. The phone WAS running fine but today it hard reset itself once again. I have decided that it is time to try to flash the Radio to see if this process will help it from the random hard resets that it has been going through. My question is: Are radio roms also built for specific phones or are they typically universal?
Also if anyone believes that the hard resets are not because of my radio and may be because of something else please say so.
Thanks again
Hermes (8525)
TNT Hermes

Radio ROMs are most definitely NOT universal. They depend heavily on the hardware, which is different between different models. You should never, ever flash a non-Hermes radio ROM on your device. The one possible exception is the Trinity, which has similar radio hardware.
As for your hard resets, you should flash an official Hermes ROM first (find a version without a radio) and then flash a custom one. It's an issue with how Big-Storage is implemented in custom ROMs.
So I ended up trying out TNT (for HERMES) and didn't like it so I went back to Pays Lite (which does have the nbh file.) I also found custom radio roms and flashed a 1.56.70.11 radio for Hermes. And it seems like this might have worked but than again I have only used it for a little while. The phone did hard reset it self, but I believe that was because I was running to many things and it froze. I am going to continue using this and see how it ends up. IF by any chance I do run into the same problems what do you recommend I do. (remember I have tried multiple roms and now have tried a new radio also)
Thanks
Herm 100

As I said in my previous post, your hard reset issue should be solved if you first flash an official ROM (from HTC itself or a carrier) and then flash a custom one afterward.
As Trancecoder sai, I'd also check for bad blocks as this may be a symptom. Use MTTY to check and fix bad blocks but remember that there may be "branded" bad blocks done by the carrier.
Cheers...
Sorry for the late reply, I have been quite busy with other things. I would like to state that I went along with putting a stock ROM onto my Herm and left it on like that for about 1.5 weeks to make sure that it was working ok. I than uploaded Pays Lite once again (I love this ROM) and I have been using it for a few days now and it has been working fine. I recently added some mods like cabs and a new radio just yesterday and I will let you all know if anything else goes wrong. I thank you all for the great suggestions. I certainly learned a lot. Thanks
I'm going to try a different radio,current is 1.16.00.00.
I've unlocked with pofs V3a unlocker.
I've already flashed a few roms to find one I like.
Just worried about bricking it
When I go to flash a radio rom it states....
"Intended solely for 1.11 SPL.You MUST have 1.11 hard SPL installed to flash"
Pretty sure pofs unlocker installs 1.40 olipro?
Do I need to downgrade to SPL 1.11?
So many threads/posts to read my eyes are starting to bleed.
I've found the Hermes radio rom thread so loads to look at but which one
My first question is: Are you flashing by SD card or by USB?
Probably USB but do have sdcard.
I recently learned how to flash by SD. You must have hard spl to do this. It is much easier and sometimes even faster than doing it by usb, not to mention the most important part- it is safer. You may look in this thread to figure out how to do it.
SPL info Needed.
Thanks for your help Shortie but..........

I've not read anywhere that I MUST have 1.11 when flashing radio?
Pretty sure I have hard SPL 1.40.
I have downloaded SPL's V7 and V9 but not flashed them.
Is it ok to flash SPL V7 and then flash ANY radio
Before I flash my phone for the very first time, I need to know some things.
I know there are threads who give info, but they aren't always up-to-date or handeling about my phone.
So I want to know, I heard about a third version of HSPL.
What are the things that I need to do?
If I want to install a new rom, I first install HSPL, then the rom, but do I have to install something like a radio too? or something else?
Will a custom rom always work in my language (BE/DUTCH),
and which rom is good for texting (no lag etc).
I want a clean and smooth rom, with not much BS. Any advice?
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm stuck with them for a long long time and I want to be well prepared.

RADIO: 2.06.51.07
Follow this thread step by step and you cant go wrong.
Its link you to HSPL3 and anything else you might need.
It tells you how to flash a radio (if you need to).....
It will tell you which radio you need in the thread for the rom your going to use....
You just have to read through all the rom threads to find out which one is going to be best for you...... I'd reccomend energy roms... I think they might only be available in english though. Different languages available will be listed in the rom thread...
The flash only takes 10 minutes...its the reading up first thats the time consuming part....
Hope it all goes well for you
thanks for the advice, I will follow it and read everything 10 times before flashing anything

Yea. Read it very very very carefully. Once you grasp the process, it's so easy and intuitive.

blimey, you can come again! hehe
So here are the steps that I'm about to take: (first off I saved all my data, sms, etc elsewhere).
1) flash HSPL 3

Seems all ROMs based on 1.42, 1.66, 1.XX can work with 2.08 SPL without problems.*

My ROM is 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD, so it seems that this is okay to do. I think I have the 'usualleo', can I check this somewhere?
When I look into RAM SIZE, it says 512 MB, and I don't know what telstra is, but I definitly won't need the last one (1024). I also think in HSPL itself, I need to choose 2.08.HSPL.
Next, I'm about to flash my first custom rom, and will follow the steps given here:
Flashing Via ActiveSync
1. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your computer
2. REMOVE SIM and microSD CARDS!! (this is a precautionary measure and is not compulsory)
3. Turn phone back on and wait until it syncs with your PC
4a. If your Rom is a .exe (customRUU.exe is already included in the Rom file) then run the file
4b. If your Rom is a .nbh file then run the CustomRUU.exe from the Roms Folder (if one isnt included then download it *HERE*)
5. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom
6. Once phone has gone through the customisation procedure then replace Sim and microSD Cards
7. Perform a Hard Reset to clear any leftover data from your previous Rom (see intructions at bottom).
8. Set up phone as required and job done.

I really can't find what ROM I should use..
I want a rom with landscape built in and the sms client 2016.
Are there much roms which include this?
yea thats all OK, except you dont really need to remove sim and sd. Only if you're stroubleshooting.
Plus, most cooked roms support 'autoinstall', , , create a folder on your sd card called autoinstall, put in there any cabs that are essentials, and the rom will install them as part of the post flash setup process.
as to which rom for what, thats gotta be down to you. Theyre all good, theres no such thing as a best rom, and what works brilliantly for one person makes the next person weep with frustration.
Flashing only takes 5/10 mins, you can try out a dozen roms in an evening.
Dont forget you only need apply hspl once. It will stay there till you either flash a stock from sd card (dont do this, theres no need nowadays) or you can run hspl2 (yes, hspl2) and choose your stock spl (1.42.0000 or 1.66.0000 or whatever)
can I run HSPL 2 after I firstly installed HSPL 3 for the custom rom I'm about to choose? And I'm guessing roms come packed (7z/zip/rar), need to unpack those files I guess? How do you actually start cooking a rom?
edit: I also gonna remove everything (hard reset) before I start flashing anything, so I start clean
Okay this is coming really close now:

Download Artemis 23.0 level A NLD (this I'm about to use)
I'm gonna go with artemis, but I also want a higher radio version. should I update my radio or my rom first? And how do I know which radio is compactible with that rom? the ones adviced in the rom? http://www.pilotlogic.com/artemis/htc_hd2_radio/ these?
I'm a bit confused what steps to take, in which order.
I know I have to HSPL first, (gonna use HSPL 3)
but then I doubt which to do first, rom or radio. And is it easy to install? Can I make any mistakes on this? what are the things that need special attention? thanks in advance guys, for all the help!
doesn't matter which order, except if you do rom first your phone will hang till you enter bootloader and flash a matching radio so most people say radio first.
heres how i'd do it
1 hspl3 (only needs doing once, not every time you flash)
2 enter bootloader manually
3 flash the radio
4 when it gets to 100% and is about to reboot, hold down voldown to go back into bootloader
5 flash the rom
6 allow phone to boot properly

SUPERB!! Thank you for the clear advice! Will try this step by step tonight. Thanks samsamuel I really like xda everybody is helping out :d
I used the video guides the first time..........
Id have freaked out about the radio hanging at 96% if I hadnt already seen that on the video.
Watch each step before you do it, that way you know what to expect.....
Happy flashing.........

damn guys? I'm really DOUBTING, should I flash a rom or a radio first?
I'm scared if I flash my rom first my cell won't startup because of incompactibility with my phone's rom? Or reversed ways. Can anyone advise me before I start?
Edit: took a leap of faith and trusted on the posts above, and I'm now running a new radio now only my rom and I'm done. Gonna see the video's and tuts first. I'll keep you updated. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW this radio is GREAT! my sound quality has improved like A LOT! very strange, with my original rom, I always heard noises, now it's way clearer when I call
