Australian Network Original ROMS - Updated 3 Jan 09 - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi to all budding cooks!
I have links here - thanks to HTC e-Club Australia - for those who wish to download the original signed ROMS for three of the four Australian mobile network providers: Optus, Vodafone and 3 Mobile. Unfortunately the folks at HTC haven't seen fit to publicly release a Telstra-specific ROM for the Next-G network, or else I'd have a link here for that too.
The ROMs available from the links below include the radio in the package, and will install it along with the network-specific stuff for each provider.
Click on the link to start your direct-to-PC download:
Hutchison Telecoms - 3 Mobile (this is the latest one, released on December 4, 2008)
Optus and Vodafone Networks (this is the same one HTC released on October 27, 2008 - no other update for Optus/Vodafone available as of January 3, 2009)
Links also added to the Raphael Wiki Page
Hope these can be of help to someone.....

Thanks for these. Have you tested any of them

Optus / Vodafone ROM
OK I have flash to this rom and so far so good.
It's a fully unbranded rom. Not even the program shortcuts in touchflow have been inserted.
This upgrade has fixed a main problem of mms for me where I can now send and receive mms again. I could not do this with.405 WWE rom. Radio is the the stock radio and I have had not improvment here in AUS and will upgrade to .28 or .32 shortly.
No speed diffrence and you will need to redo your confiqs again or restore from backup

Only the 3 Mobile and Optus ones, and both work well. Haven't tried the Telstra ones, 'cos I hate Telstra and everything they stand for. My only dislikes are the telco's brandings everywhere on the 3 Mobile ROM, other than that they run exactly like the stock HTC ROM.
As for the radio I'm using with Optus, it's 1.02.25.32, and here in Newcastle it's clear as crystal. Send/receive MMS is fine, and SMS goes on GSM like it always has with Optus.

Great thanks. Yes I am using the Optus one as well and still on orignal radio and so far so good, only had issue restoring the backups would not reinstall the programs and settings which is a bit of a pain But the Rom feels faster after the settings applied then the orignal I had. I don't know why I could not get mms to work on orignal rom .405 I had all the correct settings and it would never send now it's like perfect again.
Will upgrade radio next as .19 always has some lagg in connecting to the network

The file name of Telstra rom seems like Diamond... I don't think Diamond and Raphael shares the same rom right?

Not sure, mate. Seeming though I live in Australia, I haven't been able to set up my computer somewhere in the UK and get my hands on a Vodafone UK edition Raph to test it. Maybe you could test it yourself, see how it goes, and post your results here.
There's nothing to worry about. Only one of four things could happen, and all of them are reversible.
(1) The flash is a failure: you brick the phone. Elsewhere in this forum are threads committed to helping those with bricked phones;
(2) The flash is a success, but you don't like the look, feel and speed of the ROM post-install;
(3) The flash is a success, but the Radio/modem isn't working well for you on your particular network, or
(4) The flash is a success and the whole thing works to your satisfaction.
Trial and error is the key to advancement. You will get nowhere if you don't try, and you always have here a number of others with the same device, to help you out of a bind if you get stuck. Great minds think alike, and as Dr. Conrad Zimsky said in 'The Core', "That's all science is, is best guess..."

cheers mate, my only worry is bricking. im new to winmo so all the flashin is new to me.

I suggest first and foremost you go to the Raphael Elite Team Thread and grab the HardSPL from there. For further instructions on how not to brick your phone, check out this thread. If you haven't already, install ActiveSync 4.5 for Windows XP, or Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista. Make sure you download and install the correct version for your operating system, as there are 32- and 64-bit variants.
Connect your phone to your PC through whatever Sync application you installed, then Flash your phone with the HardSPL first. Trust me, I've done it myself and it works, as long as you follow the instructions the boys have left in a text file included in the *.zip's you'll grab from that thread. After that, it's all smooth sailing. Installation of ROM's from wherever you decide to grab them is a risk each time you do it, but make sure that if the ROM's chef has specified a certain Radio to use with what he's cooked, that you Flash that to your device first then hard-reset, then Flash the ROM.
Hope this has helped a little bit.....

hmmm i think i must be missing something. ive flashed hardspl no problem but i get an invalid vendor error when i try to flash the voda rom, i thought hardspl stopped that? maybe im just a noob missing something

Try going back to the original SPL that you can grab from the same place you got the unsigned from. Then try flashing with the Vodafone/Optus one I've posted links to @top of thread.

same error. everything back to stock & nothings bricked so no biggy. i wanted the radios more than anything because i get pretty sucky reception at home but vodafone say i shudnt. oh well, no harm done a least.
Thanks for your help.

Can anyone verify if the optus rom gives access to the WCMDA 900 band that we know the device is capable of? Cheers

As far as I am aware, the device flicks between whatever frequency is available. That is, if the 900MHz band is there, then it uses it, but when the 2100MHz band is around, it'll switch to that one. I was happy with that stock Optus ROM in my Raph, using my Optus SIM card, but have gone back to the T.I.R. (PDM) one simply 'cos I like it.
My Raph is an original outright device bought from 3 Mobile - with the 3 generic ROM installed - but because I jumped from a stock Vodafone service to Optus ('cos Vodafone here in Newcastle are not providing 3G/HSDPA) I chose a ROM I liked the look of.

Hi there do you get the UMTS 900 band option in the band tab? My 3 rom only gives me 2100, 800, 850 options in UMTS and the usual GSM frequencies.

Perfect! Thanks very much for the info.

Hi, this is an interesting discussion about band freq's here...
I'm running 1.02.25.19 with ROMeOS 1.21 WWE and I see the following options:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
I'm with Vodafone. I do not experience any call quality issues, slow call connection or internet speed issues... so I'm not too sure if this changes anything considering Vodafone mainly uses 1800 and they're still in the process of running out 900MHz.
FWIW... I tried running Radio 1.02.25.28 but I did experience issues with my camera, which is why I'm back on .19

Da_G thanks for your help.
Sounds like a great ROM, Im more than willing to try it. My only question is, does this fix the whole issue of when using Fido, it claims Im roaming?
Thanks!
I could be wrong...but I think that might have something to do with your SIM, it might not consider Fido and Rogers network as one (outdated SIM maybe?)
The reason I am saying that is because when I do a network search on my Fuze, it only brings up Rogers Network as the available network and I am in downtown Toronto.
I am unable to test it unfortunately.
Great work! Keep it up
My original (old, first sim card) got destroyed with my Excalibur in a car accident I got into. I have the latest and newwest SIM. I guess the whole thing is because non Fido branded handsets don't know that the Rogers & Fido network are the same, so it raises the flag but thats something software related no?
the Fuze I am using was bought from US (AT&T Branded) and I am using it with Rogers SIM...I never noticed that issue...
Can you post a few Screen shoot of this?
I'm feeling that I can request on this ROM
Let's all put our effort together and make a nice Canadian ROM.
Im not much of a cook though if u need any beta testing, im ur man. let me know and keep up the good work.
ps. Anyone wanna try releasing a rom with the BELL UI or a cab for it at least? it seems real nice.

If you have rogers then you can not see fido (no in-canada roaming, you have 97-98% of Canada's populated area as non-roaming), ld charges are still applicable
If you have Fido, I think once you are out of metropolitan areas, you are technically roaming, unless you have the extended network soc on your account (contact customer care to find out more) which will stop roaming, but not the potential long distance charges.
I know for sure about rogers, but I gave up my fido sim 1.5 years ago, so things may have changed. It used to cost about $5.
Thanks buddy. I am ordering a fuze this week and I cannot wait to flash your rom.
Looking forward to it.

sounds like a good idea, im gonna flash in a minute and see how it goes, will let you know if i find anything funny.
Ive been having problems trying to web browse on Rogers, not sure if its the ROM on it now or not, but i cant seem to find a fix. Hopefully a new flash will fix it.
This is by far the best rom ive used so far especially since it fixed the sms time stamp issue on rogers. The rom is stable and for some reason give me a lot better battery life with the same radio compared to other roms. base rom and functionality seems excellent for now. i believe a newer OS is out which would be a next step. Also, the color icons for the signal strength, 3G/H/E icons, etc. from the RRE HTC Fuze ROM Ver 4.5 Special Edition rom looks good and that would be good if it could be cooked into the next rom. jus suggestions to improve the visual aspects. keep up the good work.

Thanks, I will definately keep working on it as I get comfortable with things to include in the ROM to make sure they are stable, that will be my goal.
Also just a note: I have tried almost all other famous radios and have found this one to give a better voice quality (sounds less hollow, using other radios I was able to hear a bit of myself as well, 25.32 specifically)
First time the GPS fix may take a very long time but afterwards, it almost connects right away using TomTom, I think some people just give up the first time due to not good visibility to the sky etc. and consider the radio to be not good for GPS, that has not been the issue for me in and around Toronto using this ROM and the radio even through I do admit that the GPS signal is not that strong.
This is a very good mod for at&t fuze canadian user. Thanks and looking forward to updates.
A little suggestion: the version of rom is a little bit old. Why not try to cook a newer one? I think 1.95 is also a stable version.

In raphael family, only at&t fuze is a device can work on US 3G band(850MHz), canada as well. You chose 25.19 seems like a HTC retail version radio which does not support US 3G. I'm not sure cuz I never tried 25.19. Can you acces rogers 3G network?
And 25.32 seems have a stronger GPS signal.

You are welcome to try different radios as you wish, i never had issues with the one included that came with shipped rom, and yes I am on 3G Rogers without issues, if you go into the Phone settings, and look into the drop down menu that lets you select the GSM/UMTS band manually....you will see 850 there.

t mobile

hi, i need a rom for t mobile, i need one thats internet , text works with it. any of you guys can recommend one to me.
No rom is carrier specific, just run the connection setup program and tmob should be a choice. Personally I'm a fan of NATF's and Energy's roms. Also realize 3g will not work with Tmobile due to it using the 1700 frequency which the touch pro/fuze does not support. For more infomation check the Raphael wiki.
thanks, thats what i thouth

T-Mobile Stock rom needed

I've been searching all morning does anyone have any tmo roms that are or are close to stock. I need to get there wifi calling working properly and cant seem to manage it on any of the cooked roms
To explain myself a bit more, I have my ATT Fuze unlocked and im now on tmobile US. I dont get service very well in my house so I use tmobile home which just routes everything through wifi instead of gsm network. however I cant seem to get it to work on any roms. Yet it works on my shadow phone I have.
have you tried tael's rom? i have the older version and my wi-fi works fine. have t-mobile myself. has it been working on the stock one?
wifi works fine its the [email protected], Im trying to dump a shadow 2009 (with little luck so far) to see what the sw is and if there is in fact a hw encoder required (uma)
Look if they have an update on their website. Usually a tmobile "update" is a complete ROM.
It is here on Tmobile's Dutch website...
Works like a charm ;P
You can download T-Mobile ROM from here: http://bit.ly/4yGeEV It's an official T-Mobile ROM, RUU_Hermann_TMO_HR_1.69.119.1_Radio_Signed_Raphael_CRC_52.33.25.17_1.02.25.19_Ship and it's 109MB large.
have you ever tried to change wifi-power-mode into "best performance"? just to mention it...

Let us know what the differences are. I'm using an AT&T based rom from the group, and have just changed the connection for T-Mobile.
Maybe I'm lucky, but GPS works, etc.
Looks like the attached Rom is based on the old 505 AT&T release.

[Q] Remove Telstra Settings from the HD2 (Australia)

iv been wanting to buy teh htc hd2 for a while, and now that it has been released here in australia it is only exclusive to telstra!! im going to stay with my current provider vodafone!
ONE problem....... the phone is installed with teh telstra stuff, which i don't want!!! as i would like to use the phone with its original settings, (without telstras software installed!!) therefore i would like the phone to its custom and manufactured settings!!
is this possible?? can anyone please help??
Quite easy to do - have just finished the same myself. The Telstra-branded version is not operator locked, so all you need to do is install HSPL, followed by any of the HD2 ROMs (official or otherwise) here. I've loaded a couple of different ROMs so far, and am still trying to settle on which one to use permanently. It should also work with SSPL, but I found the HSPL route to be quick and easy.
The alternate ROMs do not affect the phone's ability to function on Next-G (mine is with Testra for the time being), and I've tested it brefly on a Vodafone SIM as well, with no problems.
I'm certainly no expert on this, but I'd be happy to help if you need any advice or assistance.......
So using the Official WWE would remove the Telstra stuff? I would just like a standard HTC ROM.
Yup - loading another ROM gets rid of ALL Telstra customisations. No loss of functionality that I've noticed, and I'm sure that you can still access mobile Foxtel etc if you wanted, just by entering the appropriate address in the browser (not that I've tried)......
thankyou for you reply cheesekeeper!!!
im sorry to be a pain but i am new to this i understand how to install HSPL, but i would liek to know which rom is safe to use and where can u get a good one from? the OFFICIAl htc website does not have any roms as it only has an upgrade for the camera at this stage!
So which one should i use? could you please guide me to one, i would be happy with any that would simply get rid of the telstra stuff!! so nothing too complex!
PeterMav suggested using the official WWE as he wanted a standard htc Rom... (its sounds like what i want) now how do u do that and where is that from.
i have done quite a bit of reading for most of the day today and it hasnt been as succesful as i hoped, but i feel im getting closer in finding an anwer now!! so i thankyou for you help!!
i also have another question....when i purchase the phone, i understand that wen my vodafone sim goes in, the internet will not work! but im guessing wen i ring vodafone they will send me settings to the phone....NOW do i get the settings sent after i do a rom update or before?
i thankyou for any help possible
This Link has the official WWE from another thread here.
Only got my HD2 today and been reading since this morning trying to get as much info as I can before I flash it.
petermav,
to flash that rom do u still need to install HSPL on the phone or just leave as is and use activesync?? as on the official htc website it doesnt say to do so.
By the way would it be still ok to upgrade using that rom being its not specifically for Australia or is it?
I assume you still need HSPL i'm trying to find that out.
And it should be fine for us in Australia from what I have read.
Warranty issue
HSPL will void your warranty. Make sure you read the threads before FLASHING your ROM.
And as for changing to another ROM you can still use your phone with all its functions.
I'm OPTUS user and I have dZenkinZ ROM installed on my HD2 works perfect, and is stable with minimal BATT drainage.
Can you please tell us what RADIO version TELSTRA uses.
Radio version is 2.05.51.11 for Telstra
So can you flash without using HSPL everything i've read so far says you need it.

i havnt got teh phoen yet, so i couldnt tell you, i wana know if i can change teh telstra before i actually buy it, thats y i am asking these questions!
SAIED16, do u have to install HSPL?? the clip i watched in you tube named "htc HD2 (leo) unlock. How to flash cooked rom" showed that it did not have hspl installed at the 4.30 min mark. it had spl.
besides that even if i want to instal an official htc rom from their website will that work and not void the warranty when i purchase the phone??
Well I just FLASHED the official WWE ROM.
I used HSPL and then run the ROM all the Telstra crap is gone and so far it's working great.
Took a whole 3 minutes to do.
YOu may want to check once you update to a Vanilla ROM that the BAND Selection still includes the NextG Frequency, ie WCDMA 850Mhz, thats if you still want to use the NextG Network. If it is missing you need to add some entries into the Registry to be able to select the WCDMA 850 Band
To check what BAND options you have, goto Phone -> Menu -> Options -> Band Settings.

Hi pies, Im just curious does the Vodafone HSDPA network cover the 850/2100 MHz frequency that the Telstra HD2 is soley supporting?

I would hold off because if you want to use Vodafone HSDPA then the Telstra version wont have any or as much covereage as the European one, 850 MHz is only used by Telstra as far as I know, whereas 3, Crazy John, Vodafone and Orange all use the 900/2100 MHz frequency.

hi flashmore,
so you think i should wait for the phone to be open to all networks? (i spoke to htc and they said after then it shall be available to the open networks) i know telstra only has the rights until the end of march! so i guess ill wait till then!
thanks flashmore.

Nothing would change at the end of March Telstra will likely re-contract, however, just do some research and check to make sure my info and other info is correct. I bought HD2 from UK which comes standard with a 2 year warranty, AUS you will most likely only have one year warranty, mind you I have the hassle of sending HD2 OS if there are any issues. That is no big deal to me really.
The phone cannot be open to all networks on HSDPA (sort of) since Telstra are the only comapany in Aus using the 850MHz frequency, Telstra model also supports 2100MHz HSDPA so you should get some coverage but not everywhere.
AUS, Telstra HSDPA (NextG) 850/2100 MHz
US, AT&T HSPDA 850/2100 MHz
Rest of the world (including Australia) HSDPA 900/2100 MHz
So the summary If you plan to use Telstra only then buy a Telstra branded model. If you decide to switch providers you will lose some coverage with a Telstra (NextG) model.
Regards

Sorry I need to correct myself FLASHING to a none official ROM will void your warranty.
I used a HTC TOUCH HD, which I bought from TELSTRA. and was Telstra branded. I had to take for warranty claim, since I FLASHED to a non Telstra ROM HTC claimed they will not fix it because I tampered with the phone.
HSPL is like jail breaking iPhone. and you can flash from your SD, and with SSPL you need your PC. Also with HSPL you can revert to Official ROM if something goes wrong during FLASHING which means you could get away with warranty issues. Read post 7.

Telstra flashing
Hello I am hoping to flash an official ROM to get rid of the telstra stuff, but still use the phone on the Telstra network- specificaly the 850 3G network
So could I get confirmation from somebody that the 850 UMTS frequency is still available to use after flashing, and if so which ROM did you use. (note that the phone working after flashing doesn't necesarily mean the 850 frequency is working- you may just be using Telstra's inferior 2100 frequency.
Thanks
non Telstra HTC HD2 no next G
Hi, im older, and not real high tech savvy but my new HTC HD2 from ebay did not work with Telstra MMS,they sent me settings for other model because theres none on auto config site. OK got MMS but appears only E for edge I assume is 2.5G? I have tried all settings on net and fiddled now got no MMS and Telstra sent me to HTC for rom upgrade..there is none..SO.
How can I get NextG or 3.5G whatever on this phone, getting dropouts as in country area. I would be happy for Telstra branded if the thing worked on Next G. I know settings up the creek as when send mms test message I get reply Pocket NEWS :code is invalid.ha ha ha boy im gonna be iNVALID soon.
Any help would be great .need sort of step by step config thanks
@rockerseven
If you bought your phone off ebay it probably does not have the 850 frequency- check the back- if there's no telstra logo you don't have the 850 frequency. No 850 frequency means no access to Telstras (better) Next G 3g service. This is a hardware problem, you can NOT fix it with a ROM unfortunately. Can't help with the MMS settings sorry- I find it cheaper and easier to send emails via my phone.
Onto my question-
anyone in Oz flashed their Telstra edition HD2 with a (non Telstra) stock or custom ROM and had it still work on the Next G 850 UMTS frequency, and if so what radio did you use?

Stock o2 UK ROM - Where?

Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction for a stock uk o2 rom?
I have been asked to look at my brother in law's S740 but am beginning to think something is corrupt. I have a thread in the general section if anyone wants a look.
If one is not available, is there a generic english ROM around?
Many thanks.
EDIT: I did find on, linked to from this board but unavailable. I found the same file elsewhere, but it told me it was the wrong one when I tried to flash it.
Hey,
Odd it won't install if you really have an Orange. I tried it on my 'Asia' S740 and it gave me the same error but now that HardSPL is available thanks to jocky2001 I was able to install the Orange S740 rom! I thought update had failed because it stuck at a generic 'Operator' boot screen FOREVER but eventually it did finish booting & initial setup. Bad news is that although the rom seems to work I can't get a signal. Perhaps the radio has been highly customized for Orange, not sure. The odd thing is everywhere I've looked says the Orange S740 is Quad band & even shows 850/1900 on spec pages but those are not even options in band selector.. Anyhow, if you want to give the Orange ROM a shot, try jocky2001's hardspl (worked for me) and maybe you'll at least get it installed.
Bill
Thanks Bill.
To be honest, I don't know what operator it was on before I was asked to look at it, as it was found discarded in the box with all the bits - in a bin!!!
Maybe thats why.
Are the orange ones branded as such? This has no branding apart from the HTC emblem.
Wow lucky you! Hey I think I lost my S740 near that bin.. You might install jocky2001's hardspl then at least try the Orange UK & Asia ROM's. Both roms refused to install on my S740 (HTC told me it originated in Singapore but even Asia ROM refused to intall) but after hardspl I can install either rom.
As far as branding, I've not seen an Orange S740 & the Orange site shows no logos or such but I will tell you the Orange logos display on bootup after installing the Orange ROM vs just HTC logos with the Asia ROM. They do seem to have different apps installed by default but didn't dig too deep to determine which. Pretty sure the Asia ROM auto-configured data settings for me but the Orange one required connection wizard cab although it didn't help much without a signal.
Btw mine says ROSE100 FCC ID:NM8RSV P/N: 99HFB012-00 behind battery if that helps
So does yours even boot or stuck at bootloader or what does it do to make you think the flashed rom is corrupt? Did you try a hard reset to clear settings? Often that works if someone did/installed something that mucked it up.
Bill
Ps. Here is the link to the ROM's I used. The Asia rom has English (is default actually) & seems to be true Quad band enabled vs the Orange which seems to be just dual band since it doesn't show 850 band & although 1900 is listed it won't connect to it for me even though I know AT&T has 850 & 1900 in my area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599520
EDIT: OK seems it does support 1900 but only if you manually select 1900 from band list. I tested with both TMobile & ATT SIM's and get a signal. The ATT signal is weaker than normal though because normally the 850 band is a lot stronger in my area than 1900. Field test confirms it's running on PCS/1900 band not 850. So far I found no way to get 850 to work but odds are there is a way since the radio supports it. (Works with Asia ROM on same phone)
It wasnt the ROM file that I thought was corrupt, it was more a case of trying to refresh / reload the various rom sections back onto the phone as there is nothing in the way of phone signal.
There is an image of the problem in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648169 - if you haven't already seen it.
I'll give it another go, but when I tried to flash an asia rom both before and after jocky's SPL it just throws up the "invalid vendor ID" error.
Yeah I assumed you meant the ROM on the phone was bad not the file.
No I hadn't looked at your other thread, I had just posted on this one because it was about the ROM. I get that symbol when I put in a bad/disabled SIM. I think it just means there's no service but emergency calls can still be made if there is a signal. The symbol is different if there is no SIM. Does it give you a 'locked' error indicating it's SIM locked to a carrier? Maybe the SIM slot is bad.. Or maybe the phone was reported stolen so the carrier is blocking it.. Have tried to run fieldtest.exe with a SIM in to see if it is indeed connected to a tower? Not sure what band it'd show for you but for me it is either 850 or PCS even if bad/disabled SIM is installed indicating it does have a signal for at least 911/emergency calls. Anyway, I'd hope you at least did a hard reset clear storage at least already & next do hardspl & install either original orange or Asia rom. I can confirm both posted on xda work on my S740 (aside from lack of 850 band on Orange rom) after installing the hardunlock where they did not work at all (same ID error) before the unlock..
Ok, here's the results of my testing, without having to install Jockey's SPL.
Both ROM's you refer to flashed ok. Obviously I didn't try to hard with the Orange ROM as I dont have an Orange sim to try.
I flashed the Asia ROM with success but still have the problem of no service.
HOWEVER, after having a play with the band and network selection settings, it now asks me to select a network, but the only one listed is T-Mobile.
Again, I only have an o2 sim to try as this is the preferred operator my bro wants.
This now leads me to believe that T-Mobile is the only one listed because it is locked to that carrier.
My assumption may be totally incorrect as my knowledge of phones is pretty much zero, but if this is the case, would you or anyone else know of a way to unlock it pretty much for free, lol, especially now the HardSPL is available.
Sorry, I meant to answer you other questions at the same time.
It could be the slot is bad, and I'm pretty sure it's not been blocked by the carrier as it was found by a cleaner working in an office.
In the bin were the box, phone, CD's, headphones and USB cable.
Even the little square pages of literature were there.
Its almost like it has stopped working and the owner has just taken his / sim out and binned it. !!
There hasnt been any locked error either.
I'll try that fieldtest next.
EDIT: I put the phone down for 10 minutes while typing this and getting fieldtest, only to pick the phone up and now have Orange on the "choose network" screen. I'm going to leave it overnight and see if it can get o2, lol.
Cool you got the roms to install but very strange it would let you without hardspl.. Btw, Orange ROM does not mean you have to use Orange SIM. Note that the Orange ROM has a newer radio which is worth a try too. For testing I'd leave the band stuff on auto unless you're sure you know what you're doing because it's easy to set it to wrong band & assume you get no signal. lol And I'm sure you want O2 but worth trying any valid SIM you can find just to see. But yeah the network select trick is helpful too just to see what is available but it can show different results depending on what SIM is in it, status of that SIM etc. If your phone was locked to a carrier it should tell you so when you 1st boot up with a SIM from a different carrier in it. And after searching I see nowhere that TMobile has ever had branded S740 so doubt seeing just TMobile in list is an indicator of being locked to Tmo.
Sounds like a SIM issue since it is doing the same as when I put a deactivated SIM in. I'd say either the SIM socket/contacts are bad, SIM isn't inserted properly, incompatible SIM (maybe they are super old?) or possibly the phone had damage to either antenna or water damage that ruined something. The more SIM's you try the better to narrow it down, especially if you were able to get your hands on an active Orange SIM.
Of course it's possible the phone's IMEI has been blacklisted as stolen & that is causing your phone to not be able to register on a network with SIM installed. From everything I've read when a phone is blacklisted it'll either say an error about not being able to register with network or simply show no signal as if a deactivated SIM was installed. I'd say if that is the case they'll come knocking on your door since they'll trace it back to your account. hehe US carriers don't seems to partake in the blacklist system so feel free to ship it to me & I'll test it here for you.
Well, just to close this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did have limited success as posted above but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think throught the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.
