Hey what would be the best app for watching movies because windows media player just laggs the heck outta em. Is there anything better out there?
I use CorePlayer and it works great.

Something that's free to convert movies? Or something free to play them?
Handbrake or AutoGK are two free movie converters I can think of. TCPMP is a good free player, as mentioned above. Set the audio delay to -300 or it won't quite sync with the video (or so I've found anyway).
I use PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.96 for converting video. It's free and fast. From player - TCPMP best freeware player for movies.

Hello
Im looking for a media player that can reproduce all possible formats (mostly videos). Something like VLC for Android would be nice.
Anything out there?
Rockplayer is awsome, but it's only for videos, and it's not free either, but worth the $, so far it played any video I threw at it. Videos over 2GB tend to play a bit slow though.
Vplayer alpha is your best bet. It is free and it supports all fortmas.

Also option is to get xiisoft (take regard of name typo) video converter who got a lot of profiles to optimise playing from multiple different devices and such, one of those profiles includes lot of android devices.
To just span the options here.

I see it is free but just has ads at the bottom (of the program I assume; Not during playback)
Thats alright.
can we get a new thread on this? i would liek to know what to use
i think MX player is the best one or else you can go for paid player they will give more formats and mx player is best for watching videos and also you can add custom subtitle and there is an option like video play back hahaha it is very interesting while lock the phone and listing audio without video.
What is the best video player that works on atrix? I tried QQ and V Player and they both fail pretty hard. V player won't even open anything

I ve only used one since I had the atrix and it plays all of my movies flawless that's "rockplayer lite" I don't know which is the best because it's the only one I tried but I will stick with it since it works.

Check out Vital Player.
arcMedia has worked very well for me, handles .avi files and doesn't afraid of anything..
edit: I tried to post a link but lurking has its disadvantages. Search "arcmedia" in the market and you should find it ezpz
I personally use doubletwist and that does music and video so that's what I use

I use mVideo Player. It works great with added feature of specifying your video folder, adding subtitles from the web and downloading Poster pics for your converted videos. Plays .m4v,mp4, or .mak formats which are the only ones I use.

This. I use the stock video player for everything (I just convert the videos...it takes 10 seconds) but if I use an app to download a youtube video that doesn't play natively VitalPlayer can do it.
I agree with Vital Player. Just grabbed it and it works great.

What do you use to convert the videos?
I use handbrake with the normal preset setting modified only for screensize.

Same as circuit, but you have to make sure to use FFMpeg since the Atrix doesn't play high-profile H.264. Plays perfectly though if you transcode in FFMPeg even up to 1080p and 5,000kbps or higher. Doesn't seem to phase it at all.
i use rockplayer and it works pretty solid. plays anything i downloaded from the internet.

this is strictly converter for iPhone, and it doesn't do .avi files. I use FormatFactory to convert my videos, it's a very powerful app and support many formats.

It reads everything I have thrown at it so far. If I want XVID though I use xvid4psp.

No handbrake is not only for iphone, its for mpg4. So its perfect for transcoding to .mp4 or containers like *.mkv. I use it all the time and it works great if you make your own presets. Heck even the presets for iphone work great if you don't mind the scaling.
Do these converters retain sub titles? I wish we didn't have to convert anything. When I had the Galaxy Tab that thing played everything I threw at it with no conversions.

With handbrake you can hard sub or multi lang sub. But im not sure how well different players will work with muti lang subs. VLC needs to get a native android app with gpu and smp decoding asap!
Rockplayer iprettyawsome even plays mkv

I run Rock Player Lite. It plays .avi files flawlessly and that's the majority of my vids. Also the default Entertainment via hdmi works wonders.
MoboPlayer is the best
I have a bunch of video players each with its own set of features. MoboPlayer is excellent. It shows you video list screenshots, it reads off the external SD card, it plays all formats, it has onscreen controls, there are onscreen controls to size the screen, it is fast and colors are good. The only thing it does not do is play videos in the background. I believe Meridian Player does that.
Hello.
Who does have any experience with video playback?
I always record TV-Shows and watch them here and there.
Did try yesterday with the X10 mini pro and the video was not smooth at all.
I tried several players. Either the voice was normal speed and video was going way slower or video was hanging/jumping every few seconds to catch up with voice.
It's not HD. I did attach the file information.
I'm running on slades froyo rom (v5).
Thanks.

Sometimes I end up watching a video or two as well, the best player for this that I found was vPlayer, a special version for low end devices, it has an option for maximum speed, which allows me to play tv show rips or movies with no problem.
I can't find free version of vPlayer in the market... Only the unlocker, which requires the free version... weird.
Wait and will see if somebody else has some suggestions too.
Thank you.

Have you ever tried alternative video players, such as QQ Player?
simple question really, aside from all the 1080p videos and all that HD bollocks... If I download a torrent dvd rip from internet - will it play out of the box on SGT 10.1 ?
mine did but found that with the standard player there were sometimes synching issues between audio and video. I downloaded Dice player and paid £2.90 and watch all my .avi/Xvids etc using that player instead and have had ZERO problems. Well worth the money.
Try MX Player...it's free.

I have downloaded and tried lots of video players from the Android Market, namely Vplayer, mVideoPlayer, Rockplayer Lite, RealPlayer, Meridian and MX Video Player. They are all similar and lack one function which I have to have, and that is being able to play at a higher speed, around 1.3x to 1.7x like desktop VLC player.
Do you you know any video player currently on Android that has this function? I can not stand movies at normal pace because I find them too slow for my taste.
Thanks.
bump (10 char)
still searching a for a video player that can play at a faster speed...
Free player that can speed up and slow video
Look for "Astro Player Nova" in the Android store. It is the only free app that I'm aware of that lets you speed up or slow down video

I downloaded this app, it does not let you change speed of the video.
Anyone know any app that can do this? Thanks.

Wow! Wasting your time! Huh.I just tried to help you. With,my experience Vplayer is the best for me.It does what I expecting from a video player. So I recommended you that. Also, keep your valuable time instead of posting on a forum.

your experience is not what the OP is asking. So it is irrelevant. Vplayer does not play video at a higher speed. So no matter how good you think it is. It is useless for the purpose which the OP is asking.

Try Dice Player
Thank you. DicePlayer indeed have speed control. It will now replace MXplayer for me.
Is DicePlayer currently the only player on the market that have this function?
DicePlayer didnt work for me. Everytime I open it (by opening both a video or the app from launcher) there is a popup message "sorry, this video cannot be played" and the app closes.
I really need this feature, so I went on digging.
I found out that BS player is capable of doing this too.
Hope this helps people, who have problem with dicePlayer...
I just tried BSplayer, both BSplay and Dice have maximum playspeed of 2 times. But IMO dice is better.
