Hello,
Does someone know a solution for mapping the hardware buttton that normaly launch internet explorer? I would like to use it for X/closing cause I'm already tired to go on the upper side of the screen. i.e. when you put a new meeting with the keyboard, it is hard to go to the cross (up and right) for "saving" the new meeting.
I just bought this phone cause it has a good harware keyboard, but it's not important for me to have a direct access to internet explorer.
Thanks for your replies!!

Which button are you talking about?
I use AE Button to assign the Voice Recorder button to the OK/Close function and it works brilliantly. You can assign single press, long press and double press to different functions. It's a great little app that takes up very little system resources.
I'd still like to know which button is the Internet Explorer button because I didn't know we had that feature!
EDIT: Okay I just realised that you probably have the 16 key version whereas mine is the 20 key version
that's it, I've got the 16 key keypad. I really miss teh Ok/close button, caus I have to grip off my phone for going to the upper right corner of the screen and come back to the keypad....
AE button, doesn't work for this button, neither Vito button...
Anyone an other solution

Why doesn't AE Button Plus work?
I use it for OK/Close and it works perfectly well
So I must not have using it the good way.
But wich button are you talking about, cause with AE button, it only "see" the three external button (wich are on the side). I know that you can assign every button with AEbutton, but when I assign the internet key for ok/close, it close the app the first time I use it and then the key come back to its previous function (internet explorer). Someone a reg trick?
I have the 16 key version too and want the same, an ok button on the keyboard. button utilities only recognize the hardware buttons and not the keyboard buttons so there is no way to map these. hopefully someone will update their utility to include the keyboard buttons.
cheers,
cojones
"happy" to see that I'm not the only one who don't suceed by trying to change the function of the internet explorer button on a 16 keypad of a dual for using it with the ok/close button...
I found the camera button akwardly placed (kept launching the damn thing by accident) and dont use the camera much - so I remapped the cam button to OK/Close and have found this does the job for me. Not really a solution I know, but it wokrs for me.
Yes AE Button is great, but while you can map any key like Mail or IE, it will still launch the old app, we'd have to find a way to not launch the old app, in the registry possibly.

I have found the same. Has anyone managed to map IE button succesfully? Also there is a pause/delay when using buttons handled by AE Button, has anyone else noticed this?
any updates!? i think it can be done in the registry though i don't know how. hope that someone can crack this.

I have found a rudimentary solution. Add the IE key using AE Button Plus and run the following Mortscript (I am still a novice scripter) to close IE when it opens automatically and then run Opera Mini.
WaitFor("Internet Explorer",5)
Close("Internet Explorer")
Run("\Windows\jbed.exe", "-run s0_")
It works for me. If anyone has any suggestions on improving it, please let me know.
anythig new about this, pls?

Did anyone has a solution for this? Have been searching to change Ok/Enter and IE buttons. AEBPlus doesnt really work perfectly and eat into RAM..
Can we change registry? lnk? read somewhere about long_press_xxxx.ink but dont find it in our Nike.
Anybody found a solution for this? I've tried everything but couldn't map the IE button on my 16-key Nike to OK/Close.
I have changed my Diamond bay a Touch HD and what I miss more is the d-pad.
I really need it because I read a lot on my device and it is necessary to turn pages, etc. So I searched for a solution.
I've using remaping keys programs for some days, but they are big and have some limitations so I've done my own program with a very simple behaviour:
-Volume UP is remaped to d-pad UP. Can be hold for autorepeat.
-Volume DOWN is remaped to d-pad DOWN. Can be hold for autorepeat.
-Double click Volume UP is remaped to d-pad LEFT. Does not support autorepeat.
-Double click Volume DOWN is remaped to d-pad RIGHT. Does not support autorepeat.
-Double click with hold in Volume UP is remaped to d-Pad RETURN with Hold.Does not support autorepeat.
-Double click with hold in Volume DOWN is remaped to d-Pad RETURN.Does not support autorepeat.
-If a call is being established or is active the volume keys will behave normally.
-Running the file a second time will close the resident with a small tone.
The program is small (7Kb) and remain resident without making use of CPU, it is simply a keyboard hook.
To install it copy the file werever you want and execute it. If you want it to start automatically after a Soft Reset make a link (DO NOT PUT THE FILE DIRECTLY) under \Windows\Startup or your locale equivalent.
REVISIONS

really nice app
but does it work in touch pro 2 ?
I've tested it only on a Diamond and on a Touch HD.
But the technology should be the same for the TP2
well this is brilliant! and it works great on my blackstone.
few suggestions:
- it would be a good idea to have command-line support so that you can turn it on and off easily by creating shortcuts or assigning hardware buttons to enable or disable it, or having a status check so that if it's on, next time you run it will turn it off and vice versa.
-it would be great to have both the "ok" button support and the "hold ok" button support so that you can load "right click" menus.. (you can have the upper vol button function as "ok" and lower vol button function as "hold ok")
wonderful work
it works perfectly on my HD!
Virtual button interrupt on HD?
hi all,
installed this on my HD and it works well, but i notice that when i try to use the virtual button to go <Back> (looks like a left arrow <-- ), now it goes up instead.
anyone else have this issue?
This is a fantastic app, will be useful specially for those who play games on their phone. One query; is there a way to remap the vol key buttons? For example can volume up key be mapped to left key, and volume down key mapped to right key. I say this because in Diamond and Touch Pro the Up and Down key on D-Pad functions normally, its only the left key and the right key that has a problem.
I just check - program works good on samsung i780. Is it possible to disable left/right/return function, but remain only up/down? Could you please add (in future version) any configuration file?
Best regards
Tomasz

Same here on the Diamond 2, otherwise, fantastic stuff! If we can either get the Back Arrow button to act like the OK, or return it to its former glory, we are good to go!
Brillant, and I agree with the ML idea
fantastic. been looking for something like this for my touch hd
Awesome app! It works great with mobipocket. You can easily start/kill it with mortscripts (put links in the start menu, and you can do it with voice command). Edit the path as necessary.
kill("\Program Files\VolD-Pad\VolDpad.exe")
run("\Program Files\VolD-Pad\VolDpad.exe")
well done job
Nice work thx
vol buttons as a d-pad
Hi....anyone got it working for worms world party?? Kinda miss that game after changing from a kaiser to a blackstone....
thanks in advance.
Great App! Thanks!
Great stuff. I would add my vote to remove the left/right functionality and replace with 'OK' and 'context menu' support. I miss my Kaiser scroll wheel
It is difficult to do smething that will be perfect for all
I'll try to add support for exiting the program (easy) and for context menus (more difficult).
I also revise the issues with the back key.
EDIT: Done
One thing, What context menu can be reached with holding return? I wish to know for testing it
Thanks
Usefull app, I will get use to it.
Does not work for the TG01! After soft-reset it hijacks the bluetooth, switching it on and removing the BT link from the comm manager. It will not allow delete from any folder where it is copied! even the shortcut will not delete. (Had to manually disable the BT, then it auto deletes the shortcut, andyou can delete from a secondary folder. After soft-reset it will again delete from Primary folder, releasing control of the BT!)
I was looking a way to remap the camera key to Toshiba settings through registry without having other progs like AEbutton Plus (which is not free btw) or other software running on the back. Found an article here, this method probably applies to all keys.
Made a shortcut of \Windows\settings.exe (shows only in totalcommander cause it's hidden) and put it in \Windows\AppButtons\settings.lnk (the folder probably doesn't mean anything).
In HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys you'll find 6 folders 40C1-6. Those correspond to the hardware buttons.
Camera key is the 40C3 folder. I didn't care to find which folder is vol up/down etc. but don't think many people will want to change the volume keys. The article explains some of the folder's contents:
1 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C3", (Default)
set it to point to the location of the program you want to start.
(e.g. \Windows\AppButoons\settings.lnk for my purpose)
2 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C3", "Flags"
set this to 0
3 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C3", "Name"
the name of this button, this is what you will see in Settings\Buttons
4 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C3", "Icon"
set it to point the location of your program again, or any other resource containing an icon (dll, exe file) so you will have a nice icon in the Settings\Buttons window.
That's it you're done. The program you've mapped opens with long press of the camera button. I don't know if and how you can change the short press action, If someone knows or finds out please let us know.
--------------------------
Hmm after posting I found out that when the phone is restarted the string "Flags" resets back to value 4 and the button doesn't launch the mapped app. Any thoughts?

AE Button Plus can do this and is free now, i cannot get camera button to work on it in mirom8 but it definately can remap the soft buttons of the tg01
soft buttons, aebuttons should do it
hard buttons, only registry hacking, which this thread explains
for how to make the registry setting persistent, i gave a solution in a separate thread (check my post above for the link)
I always want the left capacitive key to perform the function - switch apps ( recent apps) because long pressing the home button to call out switch apps function is time consuming (it takes about 2 seconds) and need too much effort ( the button is so tight).
I googled around and figure out how to do that. I think a lot of people will have interest in such changes, so I would post here.
Actually, it is easy. What you need is a rooted phone and a root explorer( an app)
Then, in the root explorer, open /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl in Text Editor, scroll down and find key 139 ( this is the key you need to change) change the word" menu" to " APP_SWITCH" after the key 139. save and exit then reboot.
This changes change the left capacitive button function to open switch apps function. Of course , you will lose the menu function.
Hope it helps.
Could you tell how would be the exact commands to make the buttons "back", "home(already is)" and "menu" respectively from left to right?

OK, originally, the lines in the generic.kl for the 3 buttons should be like this:
key 139 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
key 102 MOVE_HOME
key 158 BACK WAKE_DROPPED
If you want to change function of the buttons, you just need to know the function name, in my case, I want to change the function of the left capatcitive button function from menu to switch apps. Therefore I serach around the web and found that the function name is APP_SWITCH, then, I just need to replace the "MENU" to "APP_SWITCH" in the Generic.kl file in order to change the function.
After the changes, the line should be as follow:
key 139 APP_SWITCH WAKE_DROPPED
So, same theory, you could switch the functions of those keys, for example, if you want to switch the menu and back key, all you need to do is change to :
key 139 BACK WAKE_DROPPED
key 158 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
In addition, the word" wake_dropped" means that the key will function when your device is awake, that means, when your phone is not awake ( screen is off), the key will not function.
So,theoretically, if you want the keys to function when the phone is not awake ( when the screen is off), you could change the word" wake_dropped" to "WAKE" ( I have not tried, you could try that out). By doing so, you could wake the phone and perform the key function at the same time even when your phone is not awake.

how about keeping menu function
but long press will initiate switch apps?
This would be great :good:
Actually, mounting function to a long press capacitive key is not that simple, therefore I think it is not worthy to do so.
Alternatively, I would suggest installing virtual button apps such as button savior and add the menu function to it.

Sorry I am using omni 4.4.2 ROM now, there is already an option to assign functions to the keys, so I have no need to do in the other way. Can't help.
This works as a charm, however Android does not recognize that we no longer have a menu button. The tree dots in Chrome are not present for example. Is there a way of telling the system that no physical menu botton is there, so that apps show the soft menu?
Thanx!

Actually i would suggest installing xposed framework and use the module menubegone to performe same function-remap menu key to switch app key.
In addition it forced every apps to show the 3 dots menu button on the top left corner. That means the menu function is no longer needed. Try it out guys. This is the simplest way now.

It worked like a charm on My Samsung Galaxy J7 pro. Thank you. You made my day.
This guide is for the Note 3 Neo and should work on all variants.
If you're looking at this thread then you should have noticed that the Menu key on @FireLord 's CM12.1 is mapped to MENU and you can't change it from Buttons in Settings since it only has Power Button, Recents Button, Volume Button and Home button and no Menu Button.
Of course, there are a bunch of Xposed Modules such as MenuBegone available to do the same but if you'd rather not install anything or if you just like to mess with your phone then this is the guide to follow
So here's what you to do make your Menu key function as a Recent's key.
Download any Root Brower (I'd suggest the one included in Rom Toolbox)
Navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Open the File Generic.kl as a text file
Look for key 139 MENU in the list
Replace MENU with APP_SWITCH
Save and Reboot
Now your Menu key will function as a Recents Key and you'll also be able to change what tapping it and long-pressing it does through Buttons In Settings.
