GSM Touch Pro Forum on PPCGeeks - More Exposure - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

I don't want to get flamed for this post, I just wanted to inform the Chefs here that PPCGeeks has a GSM Touch Pro forum now, located here.
I figured if you want more exposure for your ROMs, you could post them over there as well.

Eris Q & A

Hey guys,
I was wondering if one of the mods could add a Q & A section for the Eris.
I noticed that there was one recently added to the Heroc forum. I think maybe if we had an FAQ stickied and all the "how to's" we have available to us that it would clean up the threads quite a bit. That way members can have access to the load of knowledge thats scattered and disorganized. Just a thought.

[Q] Do you like a forum reorg?

Hi,
I would like to propose the creation of a central reference thread for each sub-forum within the X10mini/pro fora.
They would contain rules, how to search, basics, FAQs, links to rooting, tutorials/guides, mods, themes, apps,... with respect to the respective sub-forum.
To get an idea check e.g. Hero CDMA Android Dev.
This will hopefully
-help organizing the fora more clearly
-prevent the same questions coming up all over again
-provide a useful pool of up-to-date information for both new and experienced users
-reduce everyone's need to search for fundamental things
-negate the need to otherwise sticky so many threads that the fora are just becoming unclear and clogged
You would be responsible to propose threads kept for future reference.
Opinions pls.
Thx and Best, DK
i think we have a thread like the CDMA thread made by dettofatto. the only thing is that we have multiple threads on same topic which could be deleted
just checked them briefly and yes, very good and helpful, not stickied though
so referencing them would be a must but imo wouldn't contradict my proposal about the central thread...
still, that's just me and its about you...will therefore patiently wait for further comments on this
Ed. I can add a poll if you think that's more helpful/faster
Sounds good.. and while we are at it.. get people to stick to the threads.. put all Themes in the Themes and Apps thread (not in Development) keep DEV stuff in the Dev Thread etc.. perhaps add a Newbie Thread where newbs can ask for help with issues so they don't fill the other threads...
Why are there Themes in the Dev section?
But yes a reorg is needed.

My concern is create two separate forums for x10 mini and x10 mini pro

unfortunately happens regularly, excuses are manyfold and it would be naive to think this project will prevent it
still should be well worth the effort
cleanup and heavy thread shifting will be done anyway, already started but due to time restriction only on the dev fora...but will be continued

I assume you mean for all subfora and not only for dev?
are accessories, t&a and so on so different that one cannot be used for/is incompatible to the other device?
then I would talk to admin, so pls enlighten me
I think that is fine and useful to put all important sw,updates and guides in same thread and link discussions only to this thread, of course then each sw has own discussions for help and experiences.
I would like a forum reorg
i also think that there are too many simillar threads, some that are just questions and are very missleading sometimes, also in the wrong place, maybe a structure like
*general
--tutorials/findings/configs/etc
--questions
*developement
--e10i/u20i
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
--e10i specific
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
--u20i specific
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
*themes
--method tutorials
--themes postings
--questions
*requests
or something like that because a reorganization is in need
also i think that there should be a section for both mini and pro because they may be different in hardware, but many methods, apps and ideas frome one work on the other and i feel that sometimes we miss out on developement from one or the other
hi
thx all for the contribution, I waited some time hoping additional ones might be posted, but maybe all are happy with the current suggestions...or waiting for my response...
lets comment:
all devices get as default the layout
xx General
xx Development
xx Accessories
xx Themes & Apps
device specific we have the known two dev fora, one for e10i and one for u20i and I don't think I can convince admin to create another one for shared development
not that I don't see the potential advantage, but I assume "misuse" would dominate so I'm fine as it is
still I also considered it wise to provide a place to collect development results of any kind usable on both devices
so alternately you have to specify dual usage in the thread title and we can also create an additional thread with references on that
reaching certain criteria a separate Q&A can be added, which I personally like very much and will address to admin immediately when a fore mentioned criteria are fulfilled
so as mentioned we are bound to the general forum layout, but what we might achieve could be like this:
*general
---->tutorials/findings/configuration/requests/FAQs/troubleshooting/references/how to/etc
---->e.g. separate thread like "newbies questions here"
---->OT chat thread if you like
*accessories
---->all accessories (batteries, cases, screen protection,...)
*development
--e10i specific
---->development (non app, non theme)/findings/breakthroughs/tutorials/roms/guides/modifications
---->reference thread for everything proven working/usable on both devices
--u20i specific
---->development (non app, non theme)/findings/breakthroughs/tutorials/roms/guides/modifications
*themes and apps
---->method tutorials/themes postings/applications posting/screen shots/miscellaneous (like splash screens,...)
*questions&answers (hopefully soon)
---->for all the rest (when available)
not stating this is finalized but it should give a good idea
comments pls
Cheers, DK
Reorganize! Hellyah!
Reorganize! Hellyah!
I intend to start this weekend, because I won't find the time before, but it's scheduled...
sounds really good!
maybe creating at the theme section a difference for mini and pro, or does the most of them on both models?
I would like to see a Q&A section. It would be nothing but beneficial as a place for people to ask questions without cluttering the general thread.

I already requested it, it will be available as soon as site admin finds the time

there already is as proposed in #1
pls explain in detail what you mean

how to be a developer on this forum?

I'm a ROM developer, i want to be a developer on xda, how to do it?
develop rom and put them in the development section.. wait until you get some fans.
BAM your a dev
I googled you, if that site is in fact you, then it seems legit once I translated the page.
To even be able to post a reply in the Dev section, you have to have ten posts under your belt. To post a new thread I think is the same. If you take a look in the Dev section here in the Vibrant forum, your rom is already hosted in two other threads. You will be able to host it yourself if you want, and I'm thinking you probably do. If you can prove you are the rightful owner of the build, you can request those others be closed by the mods if you choose to do so. Good luck around here, welcome to the community.
Edit - I wondered where that lidroid rom came from, never bothered to google it until tonight.

How come I cant post comment in Vibrant Android Development

Wish I can post some comment in Vibrant Android Development, But wont let me. I have flash many different rom for the right taste for me and found a perfect one for my Vibrant using Toxic Team RC3 D9
I know I can't reply there yet because I haven't posted enough elsewhere.
Mostdef-You should be able too post in the Dev section b/c you have 12 posts. If not, just PM me any questions about the Toxic ROMs and I'll help you out.
Jirie- Usual rule is you need 10+ post to be able to post inthe Dev section
Ok cool. I appericate it.
Don't post comments or opinions there.. we try to keep it uncluttered with just the dev's new stuff there and its cluttered still so still to this and general forum for those.
sent from the xda app on my android smartphone.
Thanks for this post. I was wondering all the time why I cannot comment on ROM's! I've flashed more than 20 times my phone with various ROM's and I have found numerous bugs in ROM's that can help developers to fix and fine tune their ROMs. Now I guess I know why I cannot comment and how I can comment

[REQ][MOD] Sense 4 ICS keyboard for JellyBean ROMS

Anyone else other than me prefer the ICS IME over JB keyboard?
I flashed the ICS Stock keyboard but, to no surprise, it created endless Force closes of htc input when I booted Jellybean Sense.
Is this a plausible?
Anyone backing me up?
You must have missed this post, even though it's sticked at the top of the forum...
EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM/Kernel/Device Hack/Mod, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing?... If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

Did you ever find one? I do not like the Jelly Bean keyboard either
none
I don't like jelly bean period, it may never find it's way on my phone lol
Yeah, the JB keyboard is atrocious!
The darn ".com" is taking up half the space bar now and I can't type for crap because of that.
I never found one. And actually, I am sticking with Stock with Goodied 2.28 by Flex. It has all the features I want in it, volume rocker track control, multitasking, etc. JB sense seemed to have threw out a lot of widgets and funcitons that I found most functional.
Same thing happened with me and my EVO 4G. I got perfectly settled in one ROM and stayed there despite updated and new ROMS.
