Anyone else want a Verizon Subcategory under Raph CDMA? - Touch Pro CDMA

I was wondering if anyone else would find it convienent to have a sub category under Raphela CDMA just for us VZW users. We do have a slightly different device and it would be great if we could group all of our stuff together for quick reference.
Any other thoughts?

I found it more convenient to convert the Sprint model to VZW!
It is unfortunate that the devices are so different that they do need a seperate forum for the VZW version. That extra memory sure is nice though...

I'll second that motion scrosler

third vote on that. As a very newbe to all this, I find my self reading a long thread only to realize that info is no good for me.

Yeah, I agree with you. But it is what it is. All the *****ing in the world will not add memory if so I would have a gigbyte of RAM on my phone right now ;c). Hence I would like to see a sep forum. But nothing makes up for RAM!
Also different processors.
All in all, you have to admit, even without the memory its a BAD ASS PHONE!

Good deal!

Count me IN!
I would love to see a seperate section for VZW TP users. It does get confusing at times and it is so much easier (and the peace of mind) knowing that they are SPECIFICALLY talking about your phone and carrier. I feel a lot more at ease with the apps, tweaks, hacks, etc. suggested.

I agree with previous posters. Having a sub-forum would make it much easier for noobs like me to figure out what works and what doesn't with my phone.

wrong name!?
Maybe the new forumn should say 'Herman!' Isnt the VZW the real Raph

Ummmm. Thats not a legit doc. I know everyone thinks it is but it isnt. Our dvices do not have a 400MHZ processor. That was sprint propaganda that was "leaked". We do have the 524MHZ processor but not the same one as sprint.

I just asked the Mod of this thread via PM about a new sub forum.
Keep the votres coming so he / she can see we are serious.
I also asked for moderator status of the board if they create it BUT that has nothing at all to do with casting your vote for the sub forum!

Cast my vote Pro...
FYI on the Sprint vs Verizon procs:
Sprint Touch Pro sports the Qualcomm MSM7501A clocked at 528MHz.
Verizon Touch Pro has the MSM7500A clocked at 528MHz.
The primary functional difference between the MSM7501a and the MSM7500a is that the MSM7501a is the special version of the MSM7500a that was developed to help get around Broadcomm patent problems. Even though the import ban has been vacated (for now), it's a safe bet to say that the Verizon Touch Pro was in development well before that happened and nobody wanted to take a chance.
So Verizon could have gone with the MSM7201a like the Sprint version, but it looks like they went with the MSM7500a for whatever reason. They can do that, it turns out, because Verizon likely agreed to pay Broadcomm the licensing fee to import the chips in question.
Bottom line: the Verizon Touch Pro has the MSM7500a and it's clocked at 528MHz.

THats how Ive come to understand it as well. Thats why I hate that Sprint vs VZW flyer. Its propaganda from sprint.
Also, the main diff in the chips is the lack of FM tuner and the TV Out I believe. Never really researched it on qualcoms site.

That would be nice to have all the VZW under one category.

This is a great idea!!
So TV out does NOT work on VZW version??

Don't get me wrong people, I was voting for the seperate VZW subforum. At least you could tell right away in that forum if things were compatible with the verizon hardware.
But now that i think about it, it may confuse everybody to have seperate fora when many things would be compatible cross-carrier. Its really up to the people to voice their opinion and the mods to judge.

I Vote YESSS

"Yes" from me...

i vote for a separate forum too. it would make thing a lot easier. i am sure that cross carrier info will find it's way in. besides, i troll the whole forum, so i am none too afraid of missing something, though it would make my life easier if i knew what was carrier specific.

I vote yes as well.

Hi,
Brand New user Coming from EverythingQ.com Which is now everythingWM.com
My last phone was a Motorola Q ( Which i was in LOVE with )

I see all CDMA carriers Ex Us Cellular....so will this work?
I guess if its CDMA it will right?
( I feel like the only person on here with Us Cellular =/ it really is a great company )
My second question is
Is Flashing/Unlocking The CDMA Touch Pro as easy as Jailbreaking a iphone?
also how long does it take?
( Which ive done twice 1 for me and 1 time for my friend )
I see the 1st sticky thread in this section which i AM going to read and follow but i would just like that comparison please......

that is winmo 6.5. as far as the kitchens have you tried the PPCGEEKS kitchen? i think they have US cell but i cant swear to that. i will check to see. also, check out PPCgeeks for all your needs. it seems to be a more active forum but this place has brilliant guys on it.
just checked and the PPC kitchen does not have USC. if you can find the carrier cab any of the kitchens should work. again, check over there to see.

Worldwide English sometimes WWE...if that's what your asking.
If you asking what's the difference between a ROM and a kitchen...
ROM = Flashed OS on the phone
Kitchen = Resources (on the PC) that make the ROM

OK, typically the ROM iteself shouldn't affect your radio. So if you flash a CDMA (make sure it's CDMA) your phone will function. Now there may be some picture mail things, or little tweaks like that; that could essentially get funky, but in a mater of speaking; ALL CARRIER ROMs function fine on VZW, SPRINT, US Cell, etc. VZW users have to play w/ pagepool simetimes since there carrier's a bunch of douche's and stripped there phone on them...but besides that, pretty simple.

Check out that same thread at PPC Geeks. Although there is fantastic applications, mods etc. which we can benefit from and use from this forum, PPC Geeks is CDMA heavy. I jump around betwen both.
StarROM is a good 6.5 ROM
Mighty Mike good 6.5
Juicy 8 has a nice TF3D2 and 6.5

Well, isnt the Atrix the sister of Bionic? I heard from VZW that it was delay due to melting issue. Over heat in situation due to the dual core it uses.
Motorola phones are pointless if you care about aosp kernels etc
Also you are supporting the company that wants root community to die...screw them
I like the fascinate, I dont like samsung, the samsung charge looks a lot like the fascinate, with LTE, and front facing camera, I think is better than the thunderbolt, but again, what good is it to have an unencrypted bootloader if the source codes are not released by samsung, see how we have managed with the fascinate, just hunting for leaks, fortunately we have better releases from our devs than from samsung or verizon, and it is very true what Nitsuj17 wrote, we dont want to support a company that wants to control how you use your owned and purchased with your hard earned money phone, screw motorola.
in simple words, I think I am leaning towards samsung charge

Correct and correct. Cyanogen (of all people) has actually picked LG over HTC for his next phone because of this.
I have been with samsung since my first cellphone back in 2004, I will be getting the charge when the price drops.
I think all of them will eventually lock bootloader. Either that or suck.**** on release like samsung. Tbolt looks promising, so is charger.

Same here. I think I'm addicted to the AMOLED screens (cause it sure isn't TouchWiz, using SPB Mobile Shell on the Omnias and LauncherPro on the Fascinate).
The Charge is the new 'big brother' to the Fascinate. The same guts more or less (nothing has changed profoundly), but the 4.3" SuperAMOLED+ Screen vs the 4" SuperAMOLED screen is sexy. Then you sprinkle a little 4G in there and some new cameras, and bam, you have the Charge.

With the OTA 2.2 update tho I'm pretty damn happy with my Fascinate once again. I really think it'd take a screamin' dual core 4G phone to make me really want to jump to a new on.
Yeah I think a dual core would make me more likely to upgrade even sooner.
The charge originally was supposed to be a dual core, but alas it was not to be.
$300 is steep, but if you think about it, its the exact same price as a 32gb iphone.
Think how much better a charge will be than an iphone:
almost 1 inch larger next gen screen.
lte
not stuck on inferior os
etc etc
If you think about it that way, the price seems much more palatable.
I just hope they make the physical buttons better than the DX. Those were flimsy.
That is steep. All of my last four phones were all under 250. Charge has less ram than tbolt. So what warrant the price?

I would rather have the international version even though I'm not a big fan of the button layout on it. One thing to consider is the higher resale value of it.
Well if I would of had to pay full retail for my i777, I would have an i9100 instead. I would rather have the i9100 myself, however, for paying $ 199.99 for my i777 coming from a broken captivate, it was nice to at least get a sgs2 with out having to pay $ 600 for.
HTH,

International. . . I'd love to have a button
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
International (even though i do not like the button) because it gets better dev support (ICS for example). ICS is easier to develop for the i9100 because it gets updated more and source code related things, etc. Sound will be a ***** for our phone because of a couple things being changed. (this is what I'm getting from all of these posts feel free to correct me if I am horribly wrong)
If I had the money, I would have gone with the International S2. ^^ I like the design of International Version better, but for convenience's sake I got the AT&T version.
Yep same here. Seems we all think the same thing

I prefer the att version, I hate that button.
I wish they made an android with slide up keyboard. Or even a Nokia n95 dual slide. Some kind of non generic design
I prefer to have a button for contextual search. And as annoying as it is, I'd trade the loss of FM radio for NFC support.
Primary downside is fewer ROM/Kernel choices. Primary upside is my phone only cost $200.
At&t button looks cheap and iphoneish

I love my ATT version very much, but I think I like the feel of the International version a bit more. It's nice to have a physical button, as well as the greater dev support.
I had bell galaxy s2 (international) but it got stolen so I bought an unlocked AT&T one because it's almost $200 chb~eaper. I am very unimpressed, the international version has more dev support, the i9100 is noticbly thiner by like 2 mm even more important with a phone this big. I used the fm radio humders times more then i will probably use nfc. EVEN THE CUSTOM ROMS HAVE ATT&T CRAPWARE BURRIED DEEP IN THE INSIDES OF THE OS THE the bell version has stock samasung + only a few user removable apks. And if you want to enable anything taken out by the carrier all you have to do is delete a file.
The $200 is save is worth all the minor annoynces but i wouldnt do it again

2 mm is noticeable?
I have thought about buying the international version and then selling the phone I have now to recoup the difference.
Ill probably just keep this though. I got most of the bloat off the phone.

I think I might try to get one instead of the AT&T phone, if I can anyway...

Yup works fine.
I have both. (I damaged my international version and got an ATT version to replace it.)
My observations:
- i really like the home button on the international, (but hated the way the home button was hardcoded to the old version of Vlingo). I like to way removed the double tap for Vlingo on the ATT version.
- I get somewhat better voice quality with the ATT version. (the voice quality on the international may have gotten worse after installed a custom kernal, I'm not sure. But ATT version has less static incoming and clearer louder sound outgoing.
- The ATT version has somewhat better data speed (may be due to new sim card I got with ATT version).
Well I think I might have to keep my eyes out for an Intl version =P
I'll probably be very passive about it, just cause its so nice here!
Also, lol @ no love for sprint version

2mm would be noticeable... EXCEPT the difference isn't 2mm. The i9100 is 8.5mm thick whereas the i777 8.9mm. Is 0.5mm noticeable? Highly doubtful.
Another thing that the i9100 doesn't have is the NFC feature. The ICS is supposed to bring a bunch of NFC-enabled apps, and that would be a value-add for the i777.

Yes, it is not inteded for the general population

Its very embarassing to publish something like that. Sounds like a little kid tyrade!!
The Galaxy Note essentially has everything you’d want in a smartphone: a great dual-core processor, a solid camera, a beautiful display and good build quality, and it runs on AT&T’s new 4G LTE network that delivers incredibly fast downloads speeds. Plus the battery seems actually decent so far, which is a triumph for modern smartphones.
Throw all of that right out the window.

Essentially: Nothing but praise, but it's too big!
If you look at the first picture you can see that the "reviewer" has pretty small hands. It's fair to write an article saying that the phone doesn't work for you, but to say that anyone who uses the phone looks ridiculous and that people will laugh at you is just poor journalism.
I think size 6 shoes are too small, but I don't go around criticizing people that wear them...
it's not something I hide...I can't stand that site.. they rarely back anything up
but this kind of thing happens often with android phones in general....
they get used to simply point out how much better some other device is.
Did you expect anything less from this apple fanboi? He just had not been told by apple yet that a 5.3 inch screen is better than a 3.5 inch screen.
No sense in waiting to get the phone to prove him "wrong". The phone is / will be amazing and the biggest reason I personally bought it was for its size. The guy who wrote the article doesn't like things that are big.......just the same way some people would prefer to drive a Civic over a lifted F350 Diesel. Big deal? The guy is entitled to his opinion as much as you are entitled to your right to buy and enjoy the best smartphone currently out.
I will give him 2 thumbs up on the comment about Android Phones having 7 different flagships in the same year......that part needed to be said. Each time I walk into an AT&T or Verizon store, they have a different lineup of Android phones....but the iPhone is sitting there...in the same place it has for months.....and still outselling all the rest.
Be secure with your purchase - and use it because YOU want to use it, not to use it to prove someone else wrong. That's just......silly.
I guess jockey-sized hipsters shouldn't be reviewing Samsung devices ...
His article kind of reminds me of the Burger King commercial about the guy that doesn't want to go and get a BK Double Cheeseburger because it will make his hands look small.
This is an example of an apple fanboy in fear that android has made a device that totally demolishes the iPhone. Get over it and suck on your apple.
This image sums up my reaction to the article.

Im 6'5 and have big hands. I own a HTC Desire HD and every time i went to type on a new rom i either had to install a new keyboard theme with bigger keys or turn to landscape to type. This phone is exactly what i need. Having a stylus is great too because some people can write faster than typing...i do see gimmicks here but what phone doesnt have them? its how they sell. some people use them, some dont.

This sums it up nicely.
If he'd given specific reasons like:
Screen is too big so battery life is horrible
Phone is too big and makes it heavy in the pocket
its not a review but a rant.

Not really sure he's claiming anything different, and he does say a proper review is forthcoming. I don't follow bgr--and after reading this I definitely won't--but posting childish rants like this just strikes me as the sort of thing people should reserve for their livejournals and not for a site that would like to provide credible tech info and reviews.
Is the phone too big? As many (reasonable) posters have said in this forum, that's a matter of opinion. Obviously Mr. Geller feels that it is, but I can't imagine why anyone posting with that tone would expect to be taken seriously. The iPhone comparison is particularly ridiculous at this point; while it is more or less indisputable that Samsung's Galaxy line took a great deal of inspiration from the iPhone design (he should have found a pic of the international note with its physical home button to up the similarity!), the Note actually looks significantly less like the iPhone than some of the earlier incarnations. That sort of comparison would be better suited to some BS patent infringement case filing.
This type of article is exactly why I have been posting the details I can get like I did with my in and review thread. tons of details and a few opinions.
I am no journalist but I like to believe people get something useful from it.

Sprint drops Evo 3D

Not sure if anyone is aware but Sprint no longer carries the Evo 3D. You can go to their site and look and the Evo 3D is no longer in their line-up. Some retailers still have some in stock, as of now RadioShack is offering the Evo 3D for $29.99 for new upgrade or add-a-line.
lmao! umm yeah. that's been the story for over 2-3 months now. lol. But oh well, you just now figured it out. Discontinued a long time ago. Sadly, the Evo 3D really is a great phone. But they can't just have 60 phones in their lineup. wish they could keep this one.
they need to grow a sack.
with ICS, the device should be a front runner, and HTC devs should have overclocked the GPU a tick to keep it up with other devices coming out. They could have kept selling the damn things, for the same price, it's all about how you market a product... and with hardware, as always, the performance is only as limited as the restricting software loaded to it.
truly disappointing. with ICS available, they could still be marketing these devices at 100 bucks a pop, even more, and people would still be buying them up.

None of this matters if the phone doesnt sell. It clearly didn't meet their expectations on the sales end which is why they elected NOT to put 3D on the next Evo. Doesn't matter what the hardware is, if people aren't buying it they aren't going to keep paying HTC to make them. Pretty simple business practice there.

+1
The GS2 killed that phone. I had the 3d and figured it be just like my OG evo and i would keep it for a year. I got really bored with the phone. It was like they sold us a cool 3d phone and said have fun go find tour own 3d stuff lol. The phone didnt sell bc it wasnt that big of a difference from the original evo except the 3d and well there wasnt alot of 3d stuff available so what was the point in getting it. The GS2 how ever was thinner faster sexier and had a way better camera. The day the GS2 hit the shelves the 3d was done. I jumped ship asap

on a more serious note... glad you aren't the one making the decissions for sprint though
Marketing ICS
The general public seems to be a little uninformed about android versions. I work at best buy mobile and often used android version as a selling point (Especially when the Galaxy Nexus came out with pure ICS). However I don't emphasize software version as much now since most consumers have no earthly idea what it means. even after explaining, most customers respond with a lack of enthusiasm: "oh... that's neat..."
For myself and probably many power users, It would have made sense to release ICS earlier on the E3D so it could have a better edge on the competition, (iphone, Gs2), but the general public... Android versions don't seem to motive them as much. the early move to ICS would have translated to insignificant increases in sales to justify the release.
Atleast on Iphone instead of saying "The new 5.0/5.1" you can just say, "it's loaded with icloud." Consumers respond a lot better to that. even though I like selling androids better. especially after apple screwed up my evo LTE pre-order (was supposed to get it day after my birthday)

You know I don't have my head up Sprint's butt or my face constantly glued to XDA. So when someone makes a post that may be a little behind or in the wrong forum, coming out and try to make fun and humiliate them only pushes people away from the site. Next time show some courtesy and some decency and correct them in a respectful manner. Some people such as myself didn't know this until I went to add-a-line and saw it was no longer offered, others may see this post and find the same info and see a good sale for a great phone.

Another point is that HTC screwed up on this phone. About 70 percent of the people who've had this phone say its glitchy. I inherited this phone from my dad and when he had it, it would reboot or shut off by itself. Had it not been for it glitching out all the time my dad would'be kept it. And if a lot of people weren't hearing such things it wouldve been more popular.
