I have a HTC Touch Pro on the sprint network and I do not have a Data plan. I have installed NoData so I can connect just by wifi, but I am not sure if it is working. How do I know if it is working or not?
why dont you have data? especially on sprint with how cheap it is
Most places I go there is wifi available.
...So back to the question. How do I know if it is working?
there are diff icons for data connection over cell network and wifi
if you dont see the 2 way arrows starting up around the 3g or g or h whatever icon you got when you use data but have the wifi icon which look like a pinhead with spidersense lines out from
and you got data from the internet it works

my wifi was working fine with dcd 2.2.6, but since the upgrade to 2.3.x ive been having issues with it. it doesnt connect to my network, or search for networks like it should. sometimes it tries to connect and stays with the wifi icon on and arrows continuously going back and forth, but wheb i tap the icon, all it shows is the cellular data connection as active and no no wifi access point. in the wireless LAN settings it lists my networks as unavailable and wheb i click add new it wont search for ones that i know are around, it just asks me to put in the name of a new one. sometimes i dont even get the flashing arrows back and forth, but just get the antenna without a circle around it. any suggestions? either known problem related or just basic wifi fixes you can help me out with.
thanks
righ after posting i saw what i think is a similar problem in the thread right below me, so before someone calls me an idiot for not searching enough i wanna get that out there
I purchased a gameloft game and after installing it is asking to download additional data via wifi or 3g .unfortunately I don't have wifi connection anywhere here and data plans on reliance are too much expensive. So is there any way to force my evo to use PCs internet connection to download the data. I tried the internet pass through option but its not working for those gameloft games. So is there anything I can do?
Not that I know of. U can send data to pc through cable but I don't think u can reverse it. There are so many free WiFi hotspots around these days u probably should go find one at mcdonalds or Starbucks. Wireless routers are like 30$ now days it would be money well spent if u want WiFi on your EVO.

if your pc has a wifi card/built in wifi. use connectify to have it broadcast its data as a wifi router
Last ditch option: Go to the nearest McDonald's/Starbucks/BWW/Culver's/YouGetThePoint and use their wifi.
Hi,
I just got this white Skyrocket phone with 200MB data plan.
I heard that when connected to 4G, the phone uses data allowance from the data package, whereas if connected to WIFI (like at home), the data usage doesn't come off my AT&T data allowance.
So I want to disconnect from 4G and connect to my WIFI when I am at home.
At the store, the just told me to make sure that WIFI is showing as on on the top bar (or when you swipe that bar down). They said if WIFI is showing on, it means that the phone is using WIFI connection.
However, I see that at the same time when WIFI is showing on, the "4G" icon is also showing on and looking active! So- they are both looking active! That's why I wonder which connection is my Skyrocket actually using?
It looks like the data I use on WIFI also comes out of my data plan because the data packet is on.
So I had an idea, went to settings-wireless-mobile networks and unchecked "Use Data Packet".
When the above was unchecked, 4G icon disappeared and I could see only WIFI icon on the top bar, which would be good - however, the problem is that now I cannot connect to internet. (I turned the phone on and off- no change)
Does it mean that there is no way on Skyrocket to bypass AT&T data allowance and whether I use 4G or my own WIFI, there is no free internet access on this phone?
Or is there something else I can do to make sure I am connected just to my WIFI and data is free?
I would appreciate your help.
Thank you
This isnt the skyrocket forum.
wrong forum.. don't know about Skyrocket.. this is Galaxy S II SGH-i777
But you can always check by running some speedtest if you know how fast your wifi is.. or just go to settings and make sure it says connected.. or turn off your data when you're not using it.
Grab a program like traffic monitor. It'll show where your apps are getting data from and how much they're using.

Sometimes apps like the market actually use your mobile data connection so both icons will show. From your phone dialer enter *3282# and hit call. It will send you a text letting you know how much data you've used.

I have currently gone over my broadband limit with my ISP, so I am using wifi tethering on my SGS3 to access the internet as I have a truly unlimited data plan. However I noticed that I cannot use the internet connection on my phone while I am tethering, I have always been able to do this with previous phones, is there a way it can be done with SGS3?
It does work for me and there is no reason why it shouldn't.
Are sure sure your data network is not just overloaded or flaky?
Well it's not a network restriction because I used the exact same sim in my DHD yesterday to tether and I could access the connection on my phone too
works for me too.
Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I have Alcatel One Touch Evo 7 tablet and after updating the software to newer version, it started having problems with the 3g modem - it can detect a network but it won't connect with any. Surrpisingly - whenever I connect with WIFI, the 3G or EDGE icon appears as well and it looks like I was connected to both WiFi and mobile network! I double checked the APN settings and it was working before - now it isn't... Is there some way to downgrade the software or flash it? I don't have a warranty for this tablet.
When you have active wireless connection, the "modem icon" only show signal strength, it's true that E or H depend on "what it hear" but that's all. So if modem get signal from umts it will show umts (even when he is unable to connect because of poor quality), because he thinks that he is connected to the GSM, but he is connected to net threw wireless. (like it have only one connection status for wireless and gsm)
And as for me, my evo7 behave the same way as yours when i have something wrong with APN, so my guess it that you have:
-apn or other settings problem
-signal strength - check your signal and other in settings
-hardware problem - maybe some interference with other components, like gps, wifi, ... (i have evo7 that have good gps but very poor gsm, and my friend bought evo7 that have GSM like a rock, hardly ever lose gsm network, but gps work like hell, sometimes never get fix or lose it all the time)
My question: How did you do software update? I somehow didn't find any room or how to do that.
