MSVC vs. CSVD - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

What is the reason why quite a few people prefer CSVD to MSVC? Unless I am missing something, MSVC works very well.
Thanks in advance

What's difference between them ?

If I remember Right, CSVD (Cyberon Voice Dialer) needs you to record names for each contact you want it to use.
Cyberon Voice Commander is a more direct competitor to MSVC as it doesn't need any recorded samples.

It's clear now. Thx

If this is the only difference, why would anyone be interested in CSVD? This was the implication of my original question.

What does this have to do with ROM development shouldn't this be in the General Forum?
-McMex

MS voice command announces emails in sender and subject line, but does not read the body of the email - does read sms -
cybron reads all the email in full- which is great if you are drving and have it on bluetooth or speaker- but it sounds very very robatic and yep crap-
mods move this to genreal forum -
Would love to get other peoples insights into what roms work best for bluetooth handsfree, and what apps people use for voice dialing etc

Because if you're willing to spend twenty minutes assigning voice tags to your contacts (and to launching applications, if that's also your thing), you may find sound recognition software to be more accurate than speech recognition of software, probably a lot more so with background noise, that guesses without much reference how you might pronounce names which not only sound differently than how others pronounce it (and with different tone, speed, intonation etc) are often not pronounced phonetically. On the other hand, it won't read things to you and it won't tell you what time it is.
OP, for future reference, mcmexican is right.

RAPHAEL: Cyberon Voice Command (CVC) / Microsoft Voice Command (MSVC)
Additionally, CVC will not work properly without the Bluetooth OEMAGW.dll from HTC 5.05.405.1 Raphael ROM.
There are a few posts in the Raphael Software section that cover this in a bit more detail.
Cheers,

Fring works awesome on my AP4 I love it and it allows for me to use my bluetooth headset for calls I have configured and tested all services (with the exception of twitter). It does have a strange hick-up in that it mutes my VOIP calls at the start, so manual adjustment is required, I also wish that I could group the services independently, but aside from a few little quirks, it is soo much better than skype ever was... it also allows for integrated phone call history, integrated dial-pad and chat.
Has anyone gotten SMS to work yet? one of my phone contacts is also in skype so it sets her default text messages to her skype account rather than via SMS.
I will play with it a bit more but it answers one of my biggest concerns about skype and it gets us working with bluetooth, as it should have been all along...
Thanks again and hope this helps...

Yes, it is annoying that bluetooth mutes when the call is made and answered... but hey, we got functional voice in skype, google talk etc. and even better Skype voice works over an EDGE connection without trouble. I am impressed.
However, the best quality calls are Fring to Fring calls.
I can't help you with the phone book integration, but maybe the fring fourm people can help.
Thanks for the post and for the tip on the application, I am sure that they will be improving upon the application in the future, I will continue to keep my eyes open for updates... If you have a link to an active user community for fring, let me know.
In the interim, I fully agree and am impressed with FRING

Just a quick update, I have just been trying out the Full rom from Irus and it runs skype with no problems. As irus's rom is WM 6.1 it would indicate that the compatibility problem is not with WM 6.1 but with something else in AP 4.0.

Jay
Jay, thanks for the great news, please keep us posted on your progress
from what pk explained to me... the roms that run skype are just ports of 6.1 not full 6.1
ap4 is a full 6.1 rom therefor it wont work
skype is incompatible with 6.1
There are known compatibility issues with skype and pk addressed this a few times.Check the ap4 thread by pawel.
edit: deactivate htc home and/or install the htc home from addond.Home is a major resource hog.

Automatically forward SMS to another number

Hello,
is there a way (software or setting) to configure my Wallaby (with PPC2002 or WM2003) that any incoming sms is forwarded to a defined number?
Thanks for any answer
Best regards
nobody an idea how to do that?
wallaby is the first htc phone out and a pretty dead device
I would
1 use search and look in the forum search for any info about forward calls
2 ask in another forum as forwarding of sms's would likely be a general wm thing rather then a spec wallaby thing
Hello Rudegar,
thanks for your answer.
The forwarding of calls is not really a problem.
But the forwarding of sms is one!
I have found some programs that can do automatic sms forwarding, but the problem is that they don't work with WM2003 or PPC2002 (the two OS for Wallaby).
Now i'm searching for a program that works on WM2003 or PPC2002!
I know that this device is very old, but i only want that this device forwards my calls and sms! So this device would be the whole time in the cradle. And i would use another device "Samsung Omnia" for working with it. So i think it would be a little bit to expensive to buy a new device only for being in the cradle and forwarding sms and calls!
I hope you know what i mean!
Best regards
Andy
i've not seen any .net sdk code that can handle sms for wm02/3, just the pocketoutlook for wm5/6.
i could be missing it, but goodchance you're going to be out of luck.

I bought txtForward. It forwards incoming text messages (with an option for outgoing as well) to an email address. So, since all my "phones" have at least exchange/active sync support, i get my text messages delivered to my email that i am always connected to. Good enough.

Voice Command Announcement Fix (Version 0.10 Released)

.NET CF 3.5 is required.
UPDATE (3/29/10): Version 0.10 Released - See Post 77 for Change Log.
UPDATE (3/11/10): Version 0.9 Released - See Post 67 for Change Log.
UPDATE (3/8/10): Version 0.8 Released - See Post 63 for Change Log
UPDATE (3/3/10): Version 0.7 Released - Only changes are some registry settings that I missed earlier. With this, both Caller ID Announcements and Voice Dialing should work with this installer.
UPDATE (3/3/10): Version 0.5 Released - See Post 55 for Change Log - Device List below updated ... Updated v0.6 with auto start on device boot attached ... If you are using v0.5 (or v0.5_autostart which I screwed up ... sorry), uninstall it and install the v0.6.
Device List (Updated 3/8/10)
Known Working Devices
HTC Titan
HTC RhodiumW (Touch Pro 2)
HTC Rhodium (Tilt 2)
NOT Known Working Devices - If anyone uses a device listed here and my app, please let me know if it works.
HTC HD2 - I think this is similar to the TP2 - Should work, but I need someone to confirm this
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 - I have no idea ... Does this device use the WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack? Can someone test the latest app?
If you install this app, and have problems, uninstall msvcFix and install "revert_msvcFix.cab"
UPDATE (8/11/09): I have fixed the native app (now referred to as v0.3) and attached. I will leave the v0.1 attached as well.
UPDATE (8/10/09): Sorry, but there is something wrong in the native v0.2 ... I have posted the orig v0.1 in the mean time.
Not sure what devices this effects/fixes, but on my Titan, Voice Command incoming caller ID announcements don't work correctly. The work-around I use is ...
To enable caller ID announcements:
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce\Category to "Ring"
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Category to "_Ring"
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundsCategories\Ring\initVol to 15
To disable caller ID announcements:
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce\Category to "_Ring"
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Category to "Ring"
Set HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundsCategories\Ring\initVol to 5
I have written a program to address these "fixes". My program checks the MSVC "Announce incoming caller ID" option, and checks to see if bluetooth is paired and headset service is active. If all these checks pass, I set the "enable" registry settings ... If not, set the "disable" registry settings.
Currently, the default interval is 5 seconds. I intend to make the interval a setting in the registry in the next version. Attached is a CAB install for version 0.3. The CAB will install the EXE to \Program Files\dj13241\ and create a shortcut in \Windows\Startup\ (it will auto-run on device boot). Version 0.1 was written in VB .Net, and took up to ~1.5 MB after running for some time. This version (v0.3) was written entirely in native C and compiled with cegcc-mingw32ce-gcc on Linux, and takes up 32 KB! Quite a memory improvement!
Feedback anyone?
Anyone have any feedback on this? Should I spend the time to improve it? Any feature requests? Anything?

I think I know what the problem is ... I don't have my earpiece with me to test it though. Are you comfortable using a registry editor? If so, please post the values for the following keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway]
"BTAGExtModule" =
"Capability" =
Also, please look in your \Windows\ directory for a file called "vcbthag.dll" ... You will have to check off 'Menu->Show all files' in order to see dll files.
Thank you for the constructive feedback!

I am VERY interested in getting incoming caller ID to announce over BT on my Tilt 2. If you get this, you are officially the ruler of the universe!!!
I'm interested, will give it a try on my HD2
Hi and thanks for all the great info. Please forgive me (newby) to winmo,i installed ms voice commander and installe the Voice Command Announcement Fix and it still wont announnce the caller calling.Has anyone got any insight to the problem.
Thankyou
Sorry, not working on HD2 either
pity.. does not work on xperia x1 either..
I'm on it ...
I have a Touch Pro 2 and with some registry mods (quite a hack job at this point), I got it to the point of announcing Caller ID without playing a ringtone, but it announced from the phone's external speaker and my earpiece played its internal ringer. It looks to me like a timing issue ... VC creates a file \Application Data\Volitle\TTSCallerID.wav which is the caller ID announcement ... I think that the delay involved with creating that file is causing the issue, and by the time the file is created, my earpiece is already ringing with its ringtone.
On another note, my original program is (apparently) dependent on a different Bluetooth stack that the TP2 (which uses the wildcomm stack) ... If anyone knows how to check for a BT headset via native API, I would love to know!
I will be editing the first post when I have some time later tonight ... I will add "known working" and "known not working" phone lists ... Looks like the "not working" list will be longer for now
Thanks for all the feedback so far.
The Tilt 2 also uses the Widcomm BT stack. We've been blaming everything on the Widcomm stack, but I've begun to suspect that the aging MSVC software is really more to blame as it doesn't know how to play nice with newer software. Of course, I remember all of us soundly denouncing MSVC a few years ago about not being very compatible with the MS BT stack either!
I think you are definitely on to something. Yes, the hacks you have may be a bit kludgy but accurate. A suggestion: forget the checks to see if BT enable or not for the time being; leave BT enabled and do all reg changes, etc with the assumption that BT is enabled and connected. Forgive me if that sounds condescending -- I lost all my programming skills about the time Turbo Pascal died, if anyone here even remembers that from the early 80s -- but sometimes an outside view can make a small difference.
Always willing to try any hacks you suggest to see how they work on my stock Tilt 2; feel free to PM fi there's anything I can do to help.
Hi,
I have a TP2 with Stock ROM and have no problems with announcing phone calls, but..
You may already know about the bug when an "unknown caller" calls. VC does three things choosing randomly:
- 1. Does not announce anything, phone does not ring
- 2. does not anonunce anything, phone rings for a sec.
- 3. does announce the LAST CALLER - and this is really annoying, when you think you have a call from a friend or something, and it turns out VC just scammed you badly.
So my question is can you fix at least the 3rd behavior?

Its good to know this info though ... Do you have a BT headset you could try it with? Has anyone else tried with a stock ROM, or is everyone using custom ROMs?
I'm going to dump the stock ROM registry and compare it to what I am running (which is a ROM built from Calkulin's 1.5 Beta Kitchen with a few of my own MODs).
Nope. The device itself gives me enough radiation I don't need more from a bluetooth device

[Q] audio identification of incoming call

My old Nokia N95 had a feature that announced via the speaker the name of the person making an incoming call (provided name was in contacts). It was not brilliant and it had difficulty with some names (my friend doug sounded more like dog). However it was a good method of screening calls remotely especially if you are on the top a a ladder! Is this feature available on my HTC HD2 (virgin mobile) ?

jeeem, you will be disappointed to note that there are still bugs reported with MSVC, however you can be glad that it will be announcing the respective incoming caller's names / numbers.
If you havn't installed the .cab yet please note 2 things:
First: during installation, you will be prompted (and WARNED!!!) to install the MSVC on your device instead of the storage card. It actually doesn't matter even if you install it on your storage card instead of device, so install it at your desired location. (I prefer to install it on the card as I am extremely miser to save every bit possible, on the device!!!).
Second: After the installtion, you will be prompted with a WARNING saying the installation was UNsuccessful. This is BUG!!!. Ignore it. Restart and enjoy...

[Q] iSecretary for Android ?? [answering machine app]

I have searched almost everywhere, but could not find this. I am surprised no such app for android exists
So should I conclude it is impossible due to some restriction in android OS to record incomming call or to play a message in incomming call, and hence, not possible to make an answering machine app ??
An app that has the features like isecretary has for windows mobile???
Why me and many others like me want this:
we do not have any voicemail service like hullomail, youmail etc available in our country.
voicemail is not free and is heavily charged
also no google service does this in our country afaik
Can any expert android developer tell me in detail as to why making such an app is not possible ??

I'm not so sure many App programers visit these forums. Even something basic would be nice. It would only work on a Rooted phone however.
There are many people on xda with good knowledge about Android and its possibilities.. But as you said, I don't think anyone of them cares about whats going on in this forum.
People are asking questions and same average users are trying to answer their questions by guessing stuff.
Nobody even with a little knowledge is trying to answer the question, as to why is this not possible!!!!

Probably because between their real job and their families, their free time is taken by developing roms or apps that make your phone awesome, while usually getting very little in return. Whatever time is left over, I hope they spend enjoying themselves or relaxing.
If it's that important, either learn to do it yourself or pm a developer and ask them (nicely!) if it's possible.
It's improbable that such an app would be possible. An internet connection and/or call forwarding would most likely be a requirement, which is not what you're asking for.

This seems to be a problem and a major complain from Android devs. There is no API to control the audio from incoming calls. Google problably doesnt include APIs to avoid privacy issues.
Im not sure about audio from you in a call if there are APIs for it.
The program, in theory with these APIs, is possible as it is very simple.
There is undocumented APIs which people have used to record audio from incoming calls. You need root and someone they dont work.
So if you want this then yes, you are either going to have to pay someone, learn how they have (using root and undocumented APIs) made it possible to record incoming voice from calls, or wait for Google to release call and voice related APIs.
---------- Post added at 12:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 PM ----------
In SDK 14 this has been added (maybe with workarounds it can be helpful to what you want):
Voicemail Provider
The new Voicemail Provider allows applications to add voicemails to the device, in order to present all the user's voicemails in a single visual presentation. For instance, it’s possible that a user has multiple voicemail sources, such as one from the phone’s service provider and others from VoIP or other alternative voice services. These apps can use the Voicemail Provider APIs to add their voicemails to the device. The built-in Phone application then presents all voicemails to the user in a unified presentation. Although the system’s Phone application is the only application that can read all the voicemails, each application that provides voicemails can read those that it has added to the system (but cannot read voicemails from other services).
Because the APIs currently do not allow third-party apps to read all the voicemails from the system, the only third-party apps that should use the voicemail APIs are those that have voicemail to deliver to the user.
The VoicemailContract class defines the content provider for the Voicemail Provder. The subclasses VoicemailContract.Voicemails and VoicemailContract.Status provide tables in which apps can insert voicemail data for storage on the device. For an example of a voicemail provider app, see the Voicemail Provider Demo.

lol what is your problem dude?? are you some sort of messiah ?
The point of these forums is people helping out each other and sometimes those with more knowledge than the average user, also jump in to the rescue. If those developers didn't have time apart from their daily life, the Q&A thread would never be created in the first place. And there are people, who are not developers, but have a much better android knowledge and are helping people on these forums.

So if you want this then yes, you are either going to have to pay someone, learn how they have (using root and undocumented APIs) made it possible to record incoming voice from calls, or wait for Google to release call and voice related APIs.

I didn't notice this reply was made, when I was typing my previous post.
Thanks a lot, riahc3 for helping us out. Finally someone comes to the rescue xD
Google problably doesnt include APIs to avoid privacy issues.

yes, I have been reading regarding this lately, but I wasn't so sure until now. So this is a fact now that this is not possible in "normal" case (well, this almost answers my main question) as we don't have the APIs from google to help develop an app which is able to manipulate incoming call. And they do have a good reason for this i agree - privacy issues.
made it possible to record incoming voice from calls

well, then I guess I have to keep searching and learning more regarding this. I guess i' ll start with the Voicemail Provider Demo.
Thanks a lot again bro.. for finding out so much regarding the issue ..that helps clear out "the big confusion" . and hopefully, as you said, some workaround might be possible using the sdk14...
what arjas and i am looking for
We have an answering machine and voice mail available on the Samsung Start GT-5233A where you can set up the answering machine easily. It plays a greeting when you do not pick up and if he caller wishes, they can record a message as well.
This is a built in application. I believe Arjas and i are looking, trying to find a similar application for android.
I have a galaxy tab 10.1 but no luck so far.

Answering Machine for Android
Though There's no straight app for this, u can combine 2 apps to get the Answering Machine.
1) Auto Call Answer
2)auto call recorder.
of-course there are lots of similar applications too for each type. install both apps from the market.
when ever u don't answer the the call for certain number of rings the 1st app picks the call and plays the voice u recorded for the caller. But it cant record the callers voice.
Thats where the 2nd app comes in handy. It will record all the incoming calls irrespective of whether u lifted or the auto responder lifted.
When ever u find time u can check the recordings which are saved mostly by the number and time.
For the time being this is the only solution we have.
Also mind u,In the calls recorded the callers voice is very low in most of the android devices.Blame google for not giving API for that.So what the apps generally does is it will record from the mic resulting in poor quality.
I also observed that android devices with honkong firmware and arabic firmwares
the recording quality is good.I think the API is buit-in for that firmware. As recording calls in their countries is legal.
Unfortunately in India call recording is not legal.so is in most of the countries.
So the trick is to flash ur cell with honkong(hhkk) or arabic(jpxx) firmwares and u have the rec option right away in dailer options. Then try installing those two apps.
I am using Galaxy Note initially was on Indian firmware now i changed it honkong version and enjoying the rec fecility which is crystal clear.
But as u said when other brands like symbian, windows are offering this app theres no point in google not letting the developers do it. its shame for the owner of a 30k cell phone running the so called great android and not having a fecility that a cheap 3k phone has.
wakeup guys
if not u,who?
if not now when?
What about something like pbxes.org or something like that? The short answer to your original question is "Not right now" for the reasons mentioned by a previous poster. ICS seems to have the appropriate hooks built in, but that isn't the same as having the app.
I can't believe there isn't a SIP provider you could get set up with and manage voicemail over IP. But you would know better than me what you can reach or not. Just thinking there must be some other way to skin that cat.
It would be nice to have an offline standalone answering machine that plays greeting and records voice messages in the SD or phone's memory.
That will save me $7/month, so I am not expecting it for free.
Hi guys, I was thinking the same thing, then I found this thread.
My need is to have an app that answers an incoming call after 3-4 ringing, then it should play a short record and after that start recording the call.
For example when I'm doing shower and friends come my home, they call me, so it will be useful to have an app that auto-answer and say "I'm on shower, take keys under the tree and enter"...
I read previous posts, so I will try the 2 apps. Is there something new in the air? ICS is out since June...
I would spend 5 euros or something more for an app like this...
will we ever see that app ?
I hope so
It may be #1 wanted app in android
Anyway don't try to download "Auto call answer" it seems to be a malware
