Alltel Touch Pro Battery getting very hot... - Touch Pro CDMA

I have noticed about 5 times in the last 3 nights that my phone is telling me that it has a dead battery just after it has 2 bars left and me not using it at all. When i take the phone out of the case it came with i notice that it is extremely hot and the battery is dead. Is anyone else having this problem and if so does anyone know the solution.
My batter life on this phone last a couple hours at the max with minimal use. I think this is terrible and im also looking for a solution to that if there is one.
Thanks in advance.
Jimmy

Sounds like a program is running... like you are continuously streaming data for some reason?
Even when I'm in an area with no signal and my phone is "searching" for a signal (which kills the battery) most of the time I still get around 8 hours or so out of it and it does not get hot. If I'm in an area with a good signal and I use only the phone as a phone a few times I can easily get well over 16 hours out of it.
The only time my phone gets "warm" is when I'm talking for a long time or streaming data for a long period of time (like using Google Maps or streaming XM radio).
Check your taskbar to see what programs you have running.

I have the same problem with my Alltel Touch Pro. I haven't found a solution yet. I have a spare battery and even with two batteries can't get through an entire day with minimal usage!

Battery life problem related to Radio Rom 1.16?

Good morning!
Over the last week, the battery life on my JASJAM has become totally miserable. I'm just barely getting over the 12-hour mark most days, and this is with very little use, mostly just receiving emails on my desk while I'm sitting at work. The only programs running are ActiveSync and Outlook, as I use Microsoft Direct-Push with my company's Exchange server. I am always connected to 3G in New York City.
Now, this might be due to the usual crappy Cingular 3G issues in New York City. Before this ROM upgrade, in some parts of the city, my phone would constantly turn on as the network was creating some wacky reactions with the phone. Since going to the Cingular-inspired radio ROM, the screen stays off but I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.
Anyway, do you think my battery problems are ROM related, network related or something else? BTW, I've tried two different batteries and they've both had similar run-down characteristics.
Thanks!
Mine was last loaded 3 days ago and has more than 60% left.
But i've used the phone just some times and only 4 or 45 phone calls.
And NO UMTS!
Greetz
sphings
This is a problem that I have talked about before on other forums. Using 3G on the tytn will shorten your battery life about half compared to using edge. I dont use my tytn for much (a few calls, msn for chatting and email and some browsing) and I can't get more than 10 hours on a charge. When I change it to edge I can get over 24 hours.
Hollywood...
Believe me, I feel your pain. I'm using an extended 1500mah battery right now (which doesn't quite fit perfectly but close enough) and I think it should be good for about 17 hours according to the current calculation with UMTS always connected. That's enough to get me through 1 day, but it's pushing it. Do you think the next HTC rom might show improvements in battery life?
Thanks
hey CNJYC, slightly OT but did you get the Seidio battery or the one from Lionbattery.com?
Sleuth255...
I have the Mugen 1500mah version from Lionbattery.com. It is every so slightly thick which causes the battery cover to bow out maybe a millimeter or two in the middle, really not much at all. I will not go with anything larger that requires a new battery cover, as this defeats the purpose of such a nice, small device. Instead, I carry a spare or two when I'm traveling. Do you know anything about the Seidio battery?
Yeah, it has the same problem. I have a Seidio. I was wondering if the Lion battery fit a bit better.
Got it...thanks
@CJNYC and Sleuth255,
Compare to standard battery, how much more (hours or minutes) do you get from the extended battery?
Maybe 2 hours on 3G
After ur post and continious using of 1.16 radio on mu HTC TyTN for a week now i also feeling that the radio seems drain battry fast....the situation is that i generelly receive/made 10-15 call a day of total 1 hour or so duration....30-40 min of game play and may be more less 10-20 min of chatting and browsing in my tytn and i can get upto 2 days easily with 20-30 % of battry life left in gsm 900 mode ooo and always pushmail activated and of avarage 8-10 e-mail receiving and sending...
but after 1.16 radio i thnk i can go upto 1.5 days with same battry left and the senerio is the same regerding my usage pattern....and most of all before that the battry used to discharged 10% overnight at maximum when i was sleeping with 2-3 mail receiving through pushmail and of course no other use...but now it seems im loosing 20% on same time period...
i think i need to do some more testing regarding this battry life probs...any other feedback is really wanted...
thanks
Sajib...
Thanks for your posting. The 25% reduction since going to the 1.16 ROM that you reported is basically exactly the reduction I'm seeing here on 3G in NYC. Everything else about the ROM is better, especially how it handles weak signals and not forcing the screen on, but if I can't get a full day out of it I will probably downgrade. I'm just holding out for a new HTC ROM, but I'm not sure I can wait any longer.
Any other experiences with the 1.16 Radio ROM?
Thanks!
I have some problem... Dunno is because of 1.16 Radio ROM or my application. But i did Hard Reset & Install bk the Application that i use previously. The problem still same...
Let say i didn't touch my phone (Button) for about 30min and more. The phone will like go to Searching Mode.....wat i did is turn to FLIGHT MODE, then OFF the FLIGHT MODE. Then the phone only will get the service provider. After that it's ok. ...
Anyone encouter this problem b4?

Battery Life

My battery life seems far too short. If I remove my phone from charge at 6am it's got very little life left by 10pm. 16 hours is pretty poor... No WiFi or BT, but I do have reasonably high usage of around 15-20% perhaps.
I did read something about Quick Calendar being a bit of a drain, but I really like this widget, so I don't really want to lose it.
I don't have all that many apps installed, maybe 10-15. How does this battery life compare to everyone elses? Is there anything I can do to extend it?
mine last about the same. I am using the internet alot & widgets like twitter & flickr as well as watching films/listening to music. To be honest I think that this battery is pretty good seeing as how much I use.
When I compare this to my Diamond which i was using a lil bit less by way of features I am truly impressed with the stamina they have given to the stock battery.
That being said if they ever release an extended battery I will be buying that in a heart beat
Generally I think it has decent battery life, but its changeable. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and the battery has drained overnight from nearly full to totally empty, but sometimes there is no indicated overnight drain based on the battery meter.
I think the battery meter is probably about as accurate as the one on my Diamond (ie not accurate at all)! I get the same battery life from my Hero if not more as I did on my Diamond with the extended battery which considering I do a lot more with my Hero is impressive.
I think the battery is pretty good considering all it's doing.
When I have it on, playing mp3s and HSDPA and wifi all day, I'm lucky to get 12 hours. I mean literally MP3s all day though, and since I'm at work having a usb cable into my laptop isn't a big problem, which removes the battery problem.
Today I've had limited internet use (mostly just 2g email polling, with about 30 minutes of whatever 3g exists in the bowels of wiltshire) and, as I've just noticed about 3 hours of GPS. It says it's used about a quarter of it's battery. Used as a simple phone, I'm sure it would last more than 3 days, but why bother?. As a pure email device, maybe just under 2, and as an always racing internet/music/gps beasty 1 day.
I'm happy with it.
Have you tried intstalling taskiller to get rid of those apps using power in the background?
My battery life is terrible. I fully charged my hero and unpluged it 8 hours ago. Since then i've made 10 minutes of calls, around 45 minutes of browsing (with 15 minutes using wifi), and 'played' about with it for around 30 minutes. My battery is down to 20%. I don't think this is good at all because i haven't used it that much.
edit: I also use taskiller to close apps after im finished with them.
Yeah, I use taskiller, nice app. I've also installed something called Power Manager v1.5.9 but I'm not really sure how it helps... if it does...
Woah I started doing a Battery Saving /Speed up Tips thread last night - Just posted it - Any good stuff post on there... Plus there might be stuff you've not done yet (Tho its pretty straightforward stuff that I reckon you'll have done already Ya never know tho)
Dayz xx
I found the first 3 charges only gave me a day (but this was when hammering the phone for the first few days), after the 4th charge and dropping to my normal useage i get 2 - 3 days, which is just better than my Tytn2.
I use my hero as my works phone and make about 40 minutes of phone calls on a 12 hour shift, it also picks up my emails and does about 30 minutes of browsing during that time, and by the time i get home it has about 30% of battery left which isn't too bad, and is much better than my diamond.
Things seem to be improving for me too now. Also, I took of Quick Calendar which people were suggesting was eating battery...

Sprint Hero battery life

I'm fairly disappointed in this battery and will start gathering benchmark metrics, asking others to do the same for more data points and what does and doesnt work to increase.
Currently I have disabled sense ui and reduced widgets down to hardly anything, just a search and taskiller. I seem to get around 10 hours with moderate usage (occasional short call, several texts and quick searches, etc) letting android download background data and check google accounts email, contacts and calendar (this really is the power of the phone, cloud syncing pim). Weather, stocks and other "widgetable" apps are refreshed only on demand.
It's worse than I thought. I went less than 6 hours today with only one quick call (<1 minute) a few youtube clips and 2 texts. I noticed the phone was pretty warm in my pocket compared to my HTC touch (it actually felt cold sometimes if left on the desk) and a few times I noticed that there would be no radio "bars" but most of the time I had 3-4 out of 5 bars (I never have recetpion problems where I am) leading me to believe that something goofy is going on with the radio. I am going to reset since my testing is over today!!

Whit what tool did you test it?
It's still to early to tell but I'm seeing decent battery life. Better than my pre but not great. Certainly acceptable considering I'm playing with it all the time since its new.
i also am seeing bad battery life.. i had court yesterday, and had it OFF most of the day.. and it was dead last night, i turned it on after court.
anyone notice this:
the website has extra batteries
http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASA...oryID=BSH5110&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0
they say 1340mAh. mine says 1500mAh
do you guys think thats a mistake?

I just looked at battery usage in Spare Parts at various parts of the day and input this manually to minitab. No special app or anything.

I read that the European version has a small battery, but because it is GSM is supposed to have as good or better battery life than the CDMA version.
The GSM Hero has a 1350mAh battery, and battery life is reportedly slightly better than the Sprint Hero even with its more capacious battery. As you correctly surmise, this is due to the Sprint being a CDMA network.
Why Sprint would want to sell a lower capacity battery though, I've no idea!
Regards,
Dave
my battery didn't last a full day either
I am into my 3rd day of usage (on single charge) on my week old hero.
Running on 2G network, turning off all data connectivity, manual reduce screen brightness, minimum vibrate and sound notifications for typing and applications
I have a Sprint Hero and the battery is at half strength not too long after lunch. But since I've only had the phone 3 days, I probably am playing with it more than usual. I'm guessing Seido will come out with an extended life, same size battery. They did with my Touch and it was great! It was very handy having a spare battery when I was out for a long period of time, away from anywhere to charge the phone.
Im also into my 3rd day of usage, and been off the charger all day today... had a couple calls, couple texts, bout 3hrs worth of browsing/facebook/twitter... down to about 60% as we speak so i know its a vast improvement from my tp... hell, 2 hrs of anything on that phone and it would be below 50 percent before the day even really started lol...
There are a number of things you can do to help improve battery life.
1 ) Turn off Wifi autodiscovery. You can always turn it on again if you are at a spot where you know you have a good wifi connection and plan on using it. My Hero was constantly telling me about wifi hotspots that I was driving past. I've found a number of widgets that will turn wifi on with one push.
2 ) Set Twitter, Facebook, and or email to check for updates less often than stock. I don't remember exactly what mine was set to at the beginning, but one of the first things I did was set Twitter to every four hours and Facebook to every two hours.
3 ) GPS is also a battery eater. Turn it off unless you need it.
4 ) Whenever you get a new phone, you ( well, I do, I'm just assuming that you do, too. ) use the heck out of it, playing with settings, seeing what all the programs do, downloading apps and games. Battery life should pick up as the newness wears off.
If you guys want a little more juice, Seidio just came out with a 1750mAh battery that fits in your device's existing battery space and doesn't require a replacement door.
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/basi17htp2.htm
Problem is, whats the point of having a phone designed to have al lthese features if you can't use them as the battery just dies.
My T-Mobile G2 / Hero dies so quick it's annoying.
Yes I've been doing lots of stuff with it this week but to have to turn of 3G to save battery is a laugh. My old Sony phone uses 3G etc and it can last a good two days without charge.
I've kept my 3G on but have kept all the updates to minimum amounts or to be done manually.
Background data also turned off most of the time but again, if it's required, then we shouldn't have to turn off.
It's about time batteries were developed or the companies actually provide longer life ones.
All the testers reviewes keep going on about how great the battery life is doing all these things and stuff, what batteries have they been given to use compared to the rest of us I wonder?

[Q] Mozart battery life

Hi!
How long does your Mozart work.
My settings: WiFi & BT are off / Exchange sync is permanent.
Around 30 mins calling time a day.
Battery is empty during the afternoon. It simply does not "survive the day" and has to be recharded. Is my device not ok, or do you have the same experience?

Are you on telstra network perhaps?
I read something on the internet about a bug in the Exchange service, it reestablishes the connection every minute, so thats why you battery is empty so fast. (probably)
HTC is working on the problem. but if you are on a Telstra network there is a workaround http://blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/
Hope this helps
I was not too pleased about the battery myself, but it was never as bad as what you're reporting!
I've always had Wifi turned on and use Exchange email... and have been continuously using the media player or an app or game now and then... and it lasts me a full day... There was once or twice when i had been continuously at it that it had 20% left by evening...
I posted about it on the forums too and someone said it'll automatically adjust itself... i was a bit skeptical, but today it still has 60% battery left and it is 12:15 AM now...! (though i did have Wifi turned off for the most part today)
Hello everyone

were you in an area with poor cell reception? if yes, that would affect the battery because the phone is constantly working to maintain a signal. i'm using an 1800 mAh battery from Mugen and it's easily lasting 32+ hours with 1 Push Exchange account, BT/Wifi off, 2 POP accounts (1 hour retrieval times) and about 40-80 minutes of calls when i'm in an area with a strong signal. i spent two weeks at a client site where i could barely get 1 Bar (and most often had "No Service) and the same battery would be depleted in about 18 hours. when working in an area with great cell reception, battery life is great for my use. on 2 occasions i forgot to charge the phone overnight and had about 15% battery left when i woke the next morning. in case you're wondering, i'm using the HTC TestTool - Battery Tool (v1.20.0.0) to determine battery percentage. you can find in in the WP7 forums.
I'm using the phone as I have always used but something happened that makes the battery last while. without stirring overnight stays with half in morning
i leave in portugal and use optimus
sotty bad english

That the point you living in area where the cell phone reception is really bad!! It's same for me when I go to my Island in carraibe !!But where I living Paris and London I can keep the battry 100% at 7h in the morning till late in evening around 2h at 20%; Using all day Wifi, TV, Game... So the issue about battery is not the phone but carrier issue.
Because when I take a "Metro" or "Tube" where the reception are really bad my battery drainning fast....
For me it last for a day, since i don use 3g n wifi, i use followin settings.
3g turned off
wifi turned off
Always try to close the running apps using the back key.
everynite i switch my phone to low brightness, so that i don need much time in charging my phone in the morning b4 i leave to work.
with every settings turned on the battery last for 15-17 hours.
hope they fix the battery issue in the comming update.
With heavy usage 9-10 hours battery life for me.3g,4 e-mail account.One is push,the others checking every 15 minutes(almost getting 150 e-mails every day).1 hour talk time,Web browsing over 3G,listening music 30-45 mins,playing games 15 mins.(Brighness medium,location service all on)
using dark back grounds will help save power, but everyone nows that dont they.
Except it won't help with Mozart. It only works for AMOLED displays, Mozart has an LCD.
it has at least awesome standby time...
the red light once began to flash when i went to sleep.
when i got up around 9-10h later the phone was still on.
only bluetooth was off...
even more standby power, im back to report:
3+ DAY STANDBY!
i charged my phone friday 02-11-2011
untill today (tuesday) it still lasted,
same-time as last-charge 02-15-2011
thats incredible 4 days...
WLAN was OFF the most time
3G on
only did around 4-7 2min calls
didnt play much with it,
only quickly checking for news in market from time to time
had 2 reboots because of that
and did around 5 pictures.
i think its pretty awesome times...
yeah with heavy usage its only 1 day
but still its a phone and its standby is great
There's no surprise that the phone lasts long when you don't do anything with it.
As far as I can see, the battery annihilating combination is browsing the web via 3G. Guess IE was optimized for speed to impress with responsiveness. This probably won't change much until IE9 comes (which may or may not help). The power-hungry screens are a universal problem on all current HTC devices, with WP7 and Android equally, so this won't change.
The real killer is WI-FI, i upgraded to the MUGUN 1800MiH Battery, and im not looking back, it lasts way more than 50% longer than the standard battery did.
for £28 with free delivery, you'd be silly not to buy it.
also, as an aside, the Battery arrived within 4 days from HONGKONG, which is great because it advertised that the battery would have a 10 - 15 day shipping time.
Okay... what if
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!!
the first two days when i got my mozart it died on me due to low battery. but when i upgraded it to nodo(i think), the battery is longer now. but i will check some more.
my battery usually lasts 24 hours. But when I open htc weather, starts to pick up GPS signal if I leave soon have a very abnormal wear of the battery.
I tried with other Porgram gps and the same happens, the battery does not last 10h

Great battery life until yesterday

I've been very happy with my 3vo battery getting all day usage with no problems up to 15 hours.
Then yesterday left the house with a full charge and a couple of hours later noticed my phone was warm but I was in and out of a friends house, very hot outside so didn't think anything about it. 5 hours later noticed my battery was very low and got the low battery warning at 6 hours.
I'm thinking something got stuck running, guess I'll find out today

There have been numerous reports of this. I did not take the OTA, for the record. What resolved this was a reboot but I can confirm that my phone wasn't sleeping yesterday until I rebooted it.
I had the same problem (i.e. it getting warmer than usual and then crappy battery life) I also noticed it dropped from full signal at my house to half. One hard reset later and it seems to be working like the awesome candy bar sized technical technical soul bot that it is (translation its great).
This could all be due to having a bad signal in the location you were. My battery life is great at home where I have 3-4 bars of service. When I go to work where Im lucky if I have 1 bar, my battery drains much quicker.

That would cause battery drain, but wouldn't explain the phone staying awake. The sleeping issue happened to me in the exact same location.
Take the OTA, it completely fixes the awake issue.
HTC sync gets "stuck" on and kills yoUr battery.
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D.
I took the OTA yesterday and now my phone isn't sleeping at all idk what's happening
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Yeah this has happened to me twice so far. I don't think its low signal as much as a app doing it. I basically work faraday cage and it never gets hot.
