I am curious just how many people after hearing the reports that the GS2 woun't be available in the US or Canada until Sept/Oct are seriously considering a switch to another device or planning to use the delay to look for something better that won't have have hardware that is 6 months out of date due to a long delay from final production to retail.
With a 2 GHz chip from Samsung, the Tegra 3 and the iFail 5 all rumored for a September-January launch the GS2 is competing with some serious hardware that frankly it won't be on par with this winter for the NA market which is their largest market.
I feel like this is a complete failure on Samsung's part and they should be ensuring that the NA carriers aren't allowed to delay the launch of this device past May. I don't see how delaying this device until Q3 won't destroy their sales. Even if a large portion of their customers don't decided to just buy another device that has near equal or better specs and is available before Q3 I don't see how they will keep customers from waiting to the next generation of devices that will only be 1-2 months away. I know if I have to wait until Q3 and HTC or Motorola announces a Tegra 3 device with 10x the power of Atrix or 2X devices then then I can wait another month or two and get that instead of finally getting the GS2 knowing it is already outdated or will be in the next couple months at best.
Maybe if we get enough people here to make it clear to Samsung that they will most likely be buying a different device for one reason or another due to such a delayed release they will put some pressure on the carriers to not mess around with the device and just release it how it was meant to be and not delayed 6 months so they can load it up with bloat ware no one wanted to begin with.
I know I will be waiting a little longer before buying something else since I don't feel the Atrix or 2X are on the same level as the GS2 but with another 6 months of delays I can be pretty sure something will come along and knock the GS2 off it's pedestal and without a insane delay to their top market for delivering the device and when that day comes and it will Samsung will have officially lost another customer.
So what about everyone else, who feels if this release date is valid for the GS2 that they have lost a customer. Whether it be today or 6 months from now?
I feel slightly the same way, but if the rumors about late Q2/early Q3 are correct, we're looking at, more realistically, June-July.
The original Galaxy S wasn't released until around July-Sept for US carriers, but the European variants were also later, compared to the dates of the Galaxy S 2
Since GS Original was released in UK in June (instead of May for GS2) and the US version was September, it might make sense that we're looking at June-July (with an unfortunate possibility of August) for US.
I'm willing to wait that long, if they can keep from butchering the device for US carriers.
But the combination of lack of information, a much later release date, and the possibility of a neutered phone is definitely making me rethink my previous position, which was "wait for this damn phone at all costs".
I have given up on my wait for this phone at all cost stance already, I am currently in the I will wait until another comparable device lands on Verizon/AT&T (Why does that crap heap T-Mobile get the sensation!?!? I want a carrier that actually has coverage and unless your driving down the highway T-Mobile has no service...) and if their is no offical date for the US by that time then Samsung can say goodbye to my $$.
Really as it stands with no information from Samsung even June seems like a push to wait for if I can find another device before then. If I KNEW I would have the device in hand in June I could probably suck it up but having to sit here holding my breath that it will be June and not September or god forbid October if the release is Sept for Canada and another month for the US ... yeah that is just hard to swallow and I am just waiting for something else to come out.
If Samsung really wants to keep the US market waiting they need to give us an official date at least. Leaving everyone with this anxious feeling of "What is happening when will I be able to get it? Should I keep waiting or just forget about it? Is it even going to be worth the wait when it finally gets here considering the delay?" is just going to cause customers to move on from this device.

Really I wouldn't have any problem waiting a little longer if they would give us some news at least other than 1 rumor that it may be 6 months behind Europe and therefor 6 month outdated hardware.

Yeah I'm starting to get a little fed up with the wait too... Sucks for you guys in the States that you might have to wait till after Canada (yeah that was a shocker that we might actually get tech before you guys lol). I wish that the carriers here and the carriers there would just shut the f**k up take it and just release it already without the bloat. Let the bloat be optional download content if people actually frakin' want it.
I see this slowly becoming a rage thread... I like it... I'm starting to get sick of Samsung ignoring my attempts to contact them just because they don't want to make an announcement yet. More companies need to realize that there is a "Power User" segment out there that wants quick access to new tech. They need to put better methods of getting this out to them as well. Even if it means Samsung goes old school and skips carriers and sells direct. Yeah it would mean checking with both Samsung and your carrier of choice to make sure the support is there, but if you consider yourself one of these "Power Users" you should be doing that anyways.
Will I keep waiting for this phone? Yeah probably because I've been waiting for it since the initial announcement that there was going to be a GS2 back in December... The next question would be is my patience growing thin? Let's just say one bad step on the ice and it just might break
Yeah, I can't really blame Samsung since they've taken good care of Europe as far as this phone's release is concerned. (I'm much happier others get to enjoy it soon, rather than everyone having to wait).
It's just the power of the carriers in the US that really screws over the customers. There isn't a single change that is made to any phone, of any company, by the carriers that is beneficial to anyone.
It's just so ridiculous that you have to wait longer than is necessary, so they can fill the phone with purely useless software and modifications that just get in the way of the design intended by Samsung. And it's all purely for profit for the carrier.
I guess that's Greed for you. Instead of all the extra data plans raking in cash monthly for the carriers, they go well beyond that and squeeze every ounce of phone real estate with what is essentially more annoying advertising.

Finally jealous now that we have something you don't eh? And if we have our way again, we'll be the first to get the SGSII too. I guess being with this "crap heap" carrier does have its perks after all.

Not for long though.. Once AT&T takes over.. thats it!
xd, im actually pretty excited, in the past ive always ordered phones from the uk, and been able to brag and show off my power phone, while everyone else was using outdated technology. now ill have till Q3 to show off my galaxy s2, while everyone else will be using single core processors, still waiting to be updated to 2.2 (because thats how we roll in the US!)

I have never used T-Mobile. I heard some good things about pricing and call quality and such so I checked them out and based on their map in my area I have 3G coverage along the highway, in the middle of town and no signal what so ever everywhere else. I have nothing against T-Mobile really other than their coverage sucks in my area and that is really the only thing i care about in a carrier... well that and giving me an OS update in a timely manner.
Yeah, we will probably have a much longer wait as the US carriers take their time and **** up the design of the phone like they all did on the first Galaxy go around.
Here comes 4 or 5 compromised versions of the new Galaxy SII all of them lacking something that the others have, but all of them filled to the flipping brim with crap ware that doesn't do God Damn thing but annoy the hell out of you. Asshole US carriers, everyone of them sucks.
Just give me the phone like it is designed, and don't attempt to dazzle me with your bull ****.
i agree with all the complaints i've read in this thread. i'd like to see a more solid release date for the US as well besides Q3. looking at the release dates, Q3 reads like August for the US at the earliest.
i'm thinking i'm going to wait until late May/mid June in hopes for a more solid release date. but if there isn't one by then, i will likely get an import for AT&T after making sure it's completely compatible with their network. at that point i'll be able to afford dropping $600-$700 for it unlocked.

I'm thinking about going this route. Did you have to do anything special to get the phone to work, or did you just throw in your ATT sim card?
Just add the ATT (or Straight talk) Sim and you're good.
For a change I actually can't complain in canada. Pickrd mine up on launch yesterday
Sent from my GT-I9100M using XDA Premium App
Since they cancelled the 05/24 pressconf, I've heard nothing about when the SGS2 will be released here in US. Any rumors?
Anxious mind wants to know... TIA
I wonder if the issue with apple suing samsung and wanting to see their future phones is the reason for cancelling that conference and possibly delaying the us launch.
Hello,
I'm starting this thread to explore any rumours heard about possible release dates for the Samsung Galaxy S2 in Canada. So far, Virgin Mobile Canada, has announced on their website that they will be receiving the phone shortly:
http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/home/index.html
^Click the 2nd slide thing.
I have heard other rumours that Bell may be receiving the handset July 14. And SaskTel, has also announced they will be selling the phone.
However, it seems that Rogers has been very quiet about the phone. I have heard rumours that they might only receive the Infuse 4G. But that would be a stupid decision on their part, since the GS2 blows the Infuse out of the water, and the GS2 will probably come with 4G anyways.
It seems as though Canada might be receiving the handset sooner than our southern neighbours for once *Knock on wood*
I was wondering if anyone else has heard news about the GS2 coming to Rogers/Canada. And would you be willing to buy the phone unlocked somewhere else if it doesn't?
Sorry if a similar thread like this has already been posted. I'm just trying to share and gain as much knowledge as I can about this beast of a phone
Sincerely,
Jamie
If you guys do get it before us, I may have to plan a road trip then!
Does anyone have any good intel as to when we may see the Titan at AT&T? Also, is there any new news as to when we might get Skype for WP7? Christmas is coming and I'm due for an upgrade!

Microsoft held a big WP7 event in NYC today. They showed off all the phones.
The only good tidbit out of the event (that we did not already know) was that the HTC Titan on AT&T would be priced around $200.
No release date was given by AT&T and the demo units were not even branded, which makes some reporters think it will be some time before we see units in the stores.
So, I am waiting also as I am eligible for an upgrade and will use it for the Titan!
Eligible for an upgrade myself, dying to get one.
I was at an ATT Corporate store yesterday looking at the Focus S and he said their releases were on the 1 and 3rd Sundays of the month. He thought it was probably going to be Nov 20th. He didnt have any exact knowledge of the date. He didnt think any other major ones would be released after that for the holidays.

It is possible that this update needs to proceed before upgrading to 7.8? Seeing that ATT failed at life by not pushing the Tango update to its customers -or any update, HTC could be picking up the slack here with this. 7.8 has NOT been announced yet...so that is probably why they have not introduced it yet on their website.
All this is opinionated though...I would hope that HTC pushes out 7.8 to the Titans...just saying, their are more Titan 1 owners than Titan 2's. There would be a lot of angry folks out there if they didn't.
OR this could be another LG kind of like thing. But I highly doubt that seeing HTC pushed out many WP's during its lifetime.
Let's wait and see what happens. If it turns out that they are only pushing out Tango... I guess it'll be time to bring out the pitchforks.
hehe i just wonder if people from USA can check if the update exist, since i am in europe region and thats the problem, i mailed HTC and they said that in some regions Microsoft pushed update, HTC is just anouncer the one that is pushing update is Microsoft, i just apel on som USA folks with stock cingular rom on 7740 with at&t titan to check via Zune for update. I am in Dallas Texas and contacted AT&T yesterday regarding this update and they told me to contact HTC, HTC said to contact AT&T. Both contact eforts were through email or online chat. I just had my phone replaced under warranty and have the service groups phone number due to issues I am having. I will contact them via phone and ask the same questions.
Nothing comes up in Zune for the update.
Definately a dissapointment if nothing happens. I want and need the first update and then of course 7.8 update.

This is what happens when you contact customer support. No one knows what the hell is going on half the time, especially petty customer support people -like you talked to. The customer support side is the LAST to know about important information. It's sad, but true.
I guarantee you that I had the same exact thing happen to me when I was trying to find out if Tango was going to be pushed out to our phones. I was told to contact HTC by ATT and vice versa. Same old blah blah. It was a never ending cycle that just made me angry even more. Word of advice: don't bother contacting them unless you have an issue with your phone. Nothing but lies and workarounds by uninformed customer support people.
Anyway, just sit tight for the real information...it's pretty much all you can do right now.

Wait and Wait and wait some more... spoke to customer service today via the phone and it was less than productive. I had to take her to HTC's webpage where HTC talks about the update. Left it for her to chase and call me back. Called while I was in the shower and they said HTC wanted to push the update to my phone but couldn't because there was no release date on the update, the next best option was for me to remove Zune and reinstall it and then check for an update. Did that and nothing.
Frustrated... my thinking is we won't get any satisfaction. Not sure what to do at this point. Phone works with the exception of the keybard issue that drives us all nuts and then the call quality.
I have had two Tilt phones, a Fuze and even though I have one Titan, I warrantied it out about 5 times now and coninually request the same phone but beginning to doubt my reasoning. It may be time for a new carrier and a different phone manufacturer. I've been a customer of AT&T since cell phones first came out (late 70's early 80's?) and a customer of HTC's for maybe 5 years. Which means nothing.

I realize this is aggravating for many and I too had AT&T and own two Titan I. We're now with Straight Talk (AT&T Network). My device is Interop/Developer Unlocked so I update the "XDA" way; my wife's device remains like all of yours...from 7720 to 8773 can be done in increments via Cab Sender. It doesn't matter what device you're using; this is simply the Operating System itself. The following link will get y'all started.

Yes exactly...this is what you are gonna get every time. HTC doesn't know what is going on because ATT was "supposed" to push out the updates..but didn't. -In fact ATT failed at pushing out the Tango update to about 85% of their phones. I think HTC only handles firmware and bootloader updates as ATT handles the OS updates. Updating your phone through the cab sender will fix the keyboard problem. As for the call quality, this is not going to get fixed unless they push out another radio firmware -which they haven't and probably never will.
Anyway, be patient. I am sure 7.8 will be announced soon by either MS or HTC/ATT. Everybody on ATT feels your frustration...and I'm sure ATT loses quite a few sales with this. But remember, in spite of our frustration, the company will never change its standards with this. Every carriers goal is to make $$ and updating customer phones does provide this for them. It however may provide customer satisfaction, but we all know ATT doesn't care about this at all. They would much rather you go buy a new phone to better suit your needs. It's plain and simple capitalism in your hands.
I too have thought about switching carriers before, unfortunately there are perks to having ATT than any other carriers. Especially in Texas...Example, I currently live in San Antonio, but I used to live in a small rural Texas town where some of my family still reside. This town and the surrounding towns only have small radio towers that power only ATT radio frequencies. Getting service from other carriers such as Verizon or Sprint which operate CDMA frequencies is next to impossible. I'm sure I would be able to get 2g bands if I had T-Mobile...but it is something I don't want to risk. Well anyway...I'm sure I don't have to go on with the example as you are from Texas also.
Another perk is the device lineup compared the other carriers. I'm sure you can relate to this also....

Point well taken and I have thought about that. I am just generally honked off at the lack of customer service for someone with the tenure I have.
I have a thought... Like most owners of Titan phones, we have had them about a year maybe less. For me it will be a year sometime in December. Like most, I signed a two-year contract.
My thought is this, that contract (I am sure I can find it laying around somewhere and read it... for the first time) surely states what we are expected to do and what they are expected to do. If we all bought phones that AT&T no longer wants to support due to the OS being replaced (WP 8.xx) then they can replace my phone with a phone that is current in technology. My grounds for this would be, it is obvious that the updates to the OS have been available to other WindowsPhone devices but somehow AT&T has decided to ignore this release for some reason or another. Not sure if AT&T rolled these updates out to other phone but if they didn't, then this argument would be even stronger.
If I were to cancel my contract today, AT&T would enforce the penalty or charge back or whatever you want to call it. However, we have phones that are not up to date according to the current release available for the WP7.xx platform. This is flat wrong and may be a pursuable argument.
Thoughts????

It is possible that this argument could be relevant...however, you may have to look at it from another standpoint that would make your argument have flaws. For instance, our devices are not the only devices that are not updated to current technology. -Meaning Android users that are still on Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS...etc could argue the same thing. I just want to point out that Android users have it slightly worse than us at this point, in which updates are "rarely" seen on these type of phones. Updates are pushed out from the OEMs to the carriers, but still the carriers refuse to forward the updates to the phones. I remember reading an article about Android phones and updates on a random tech site just recently. Basically it stated that updates to these types of phones on the US carriers are "very" limited and rare. Oh look I found the article!
http://news.discovery.com/tech/android-ice-cream-sandwich-jelly-bean-updates-121013.html
So with that said, I'm sure that if you tried to cancel your contract with them and enforced your argument you stated here, you will still be entitled to the penalty of canceling the contract. This maybe a different argument but I have seen where carriers have made people still pay the penalty charges even if a person has to cancel the contract due to legal/personal reasons (death, going out of the country, identity theft, etc). If I could give an analogy to contracts on phone carriers, they would be like "student loans." -Both entity's motto suggests "somebody has to pay for something."
Now going back on topic, if by some miracle ATT gave into this argument, I would be overwhelmingly surprised because millions of customers could do the same exact thing you wanted to do. Contracts with carriers are carefully worded to where loopholes like this can't happen.
Anyway, if you happen to try this argument of yours and it works, let me know. I would be right behind you on this! As a tech enthusiast, I am always wanting more -in terms of current technology. I consider my phone to be another piece of technology that I've personalized to enhance my own technology experiences. Most people who own phones, would have another viewpoint -which is basically just a "communication device." Since I've been on ATT ever since they merged with Cingular, I know abandoned updates on phones, such as in our situation, is extremely frustrating. A typical user who only uses the phone for means of communication would probably not even acknowledge that phones "have updates" that enhance the user experience. But then again, that is why I am here on XDA -to better myself with this. Ever since Windows Mobile 5, I've learned that if you want to enhance your experience with these devices this is the place to be. Over the years on this forum, I've learned that getting what you want and need for your phone is easier than it looks.
Anyway, I think this post is long enough. lol. If anybody else wants to chime in and explain some further reasoning of why this argument would not work...then be my guest. Till next time....
