Hey all....
I recently change the language of my X01ht from Japanese to English.
Unfortunately i dont seem to be able to type Japanese anymore.
I can see it and read it, but not type it myself.
also, i seem to have problems with my Radio. after the device enters standby,
and i turn it back on, i cannot reactivate the phone. i have to soft reset before i can turn the phone on, using the comm manager.
this is not my first upgrade of a HTC phone, but certainly the most exciting
i hope someone knows what i did wrong.
Also, is it still possible to bake my own roms for the HERMES???
Sorry I can't help with the japanese input... but for the other questions:

This is very weird, which radio version are you running?
As you said you changed your phone from Japanese to English I assume you already have bootloader 1.04, then you can try to flash an extracted radio rom to see if it fixes the problems.

Unfortunately not yet, the hermes upgrades use NBH format instead of the NBF you have probably seen in older HTC devices.
The available shipped ROM upgrades contain all the rom parts in one single NBH file (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, GSM, ExtROM, and OS), this file is signed with an HTC private key, and checked against a certificate stored on the phone before it is actually flashed, so if you cook your own ROM in a NBH file you get an "invalid cert" error from the bootloader when trying to flash it.
Some of us have started researching how to hot-patch the SPL in RAM to allow flashing self-signed code, but it is still too early to have results.

if you are not a japanese speaker, read this. it is easier, but not typical.

if you are a japanese speaker, read this. it is a typical way to implement japanese functionality with a non-japanese wm5.0 device using atok.

thanks for your replies.
Im running Radio Stack version 1.07.03.10. I just realized that i cannot send emails via my Gmail account under Flexmail2007. If i connect to a WLAN everything seems fine. But using 3G, i cannot send anything. Internet and receiving works fine though.
Also, once i use my hermes for a while (surfing internet via 3G), the back of it gets quiet warm.
I guess around 38-40 degrees celcius.
@qtotter
thanks alot, mate. That really helps.
i seem to have a few problems with this device. i didnt have a HTC for a while, mainly because i moved to Japan and my phones didnt work there.
Now i seem to be a bit behind.

This is a configuration problem, check the 3G and proxy settings with your provider, this has nothing to do with the radio stack, you won't fix it by upgrading it.

i can send email via gmail with pocket outlook, and so does a friend of mine... i guess it's your setting in the email client as pof says.
also, my x01ht gets warm, too, when it's connected to the internet via 3gpp.
Thanks guys...im gonna do a hard reset tomorrow and built it all up again.
right now its all kinda messy.
I have over 5000 programs and games for PPC and i wanted to see what still runs, so i have alot of dead folders and probably some unnecessary registry entries.
I also might change from Flexmail back to PO or something else.

Thats certainly true...thats why i usually use only the ones that are interesting to me. but thats still alot...but since alot of the are a few years old now, i am reluctant to try them. i already had some problems with some software under WM5.
I installed the Japanese input...this language bar thing. But its really annoying. It opens 1 more bar every time i start a program/game.
it is also making itself very present. even if im in camera mode, when its in the
background, i can still move it. During games i have to move with the stylus, i will always pickup that little bar....very annoying...

i am not sure what the little bar you mentioned is. i guess you tried the method for non-japanese speakers?
i have never tried any input methods other than atok 4 ppc. if you do not mind spending a couple of thousand yen for japanese input, i would recommend you buy it. but it does not officially wm5, and you need a little tweaking...

if you have installed a japanese font and tweaked registry to read japanese, you can try ComPOBox (Otsu).

How to avoid the unwanted appearance of the IME floater
1. Download, unzip and copy GWinter's KbdSwitch to Program Files. http://www.geocities.com/grieg_winte...are/index.html
2. Run KbdSwitch and set to Japanese IME.
3. Soft-reboot.
4. As soon the Pocket PC starts up again, the IME should be in Japanese. Sometimes, it is not and so you may need to reset KbdSwitch to Japanese IME and restart a few times.
5. Run any application that may use the Japanese IME, i.e. dictionary and wordprocessor.
6. Switch back to English IME (COMP IME).
NB: The floater should only appear only in applications that you started with Japanese IME on. Also, remember that the "X" in the upper right corner of the windows is actually a "minimize" function.

if you get rid of the software totally, why don't you uninstall it???

Hello,
Please, I tried this but couldn't make it work properly ... maybe I couldn't understand ... can you explain it better?
Anyway, Is there any way (even paying) to make the Japanese input work in a proper way, just like when you have the device in Japanese (always without the floating bar)??
It's got very poor accuracy, few information, laggy updating, and has lots of problems with the towns' database.
Is there a way to change the application that is called when pressing HTC home weather button.

Beautiful but not quite functional.
Prefer SPB diary + Ilauncher. Much faster
jcarreira,
Some simple suggestions:
- If you don't like the home plug, don't use it (choose or cook ROM without it, remove from today screen, ...)
- If you don't like part of the home plug (= weather) remove it by changing its settings
- If you feel the need to alter the home plug, feel free to try and hack it or find a version with more settings; you could possibly provide the altered version to us all
What I'm trying to say is:
These people here are doing their best to find solutions and share them with us, even solutions they don't need themselves, WITHOUT PAYMENT and WITHOUT access to the code ... I'm impressed by what Gullum, h4ma, PDAViet and anyone i forget (a lot of people) can achieve in such a short period with so little resources ...
Kind regards
We should be grateful ...
I must remind you that the work performed the the cookers is not in discussion. Indeed the are doing a very good job to provide us very good WM6 ROM. ans of course, in case you haven't noticed yet, HTC Home is not developed by them, but by HTC that in my opinion haven't done any piece of software that was goos enough.

As far as i have read, i think that it is not a matter of being gratefull with people who works on this things. HTC home plug is made by HTC and the matter is that there are a lot of better applications than XDA WEATHER and hopfully it can be changed. That's all.
Just came to cool things I think we all here respect our XDA geeks!

Excuse me, but I think that this is not the question.....
People here don't doubt about cookers work, only are explaining an opinion about a HTC software...
As far as I know, HTC Weather is not developed for nobody that cooks a ROM, only is included in the ROMS, for this, I thnik that your answer is not correct...

But the one who is speaking about the cookers?. Simply a topic is exhibited to see if we can improve between all. Nobody says that the work of the cookers is not valued, it seems to me that you have not understood what is proposed in this post.
It is basically if between all it is possible to improve the HTC HOME, and in particular the WEATHER.

Gentlemen... shal we return to the subject? There was just a miscommunication. All what can de said about this, has been said allready...
Let get back to the core-question; is there an alternative to the Weather application used by the Weather tab of HTCHome plug-in?
Like the way the music player is changeable with a simple registry tweak.

++ for SPB weather engine.
I used it in spb weather, then mobile shell, now in spb traveller. Here I go again with my upgrading issues. I recently upgraded my ROM to PK Black thanks to olipro unlocker, the whole athena project, HeartofDarkness, and ITXDA. THANKS FOR A GREAT ROM and all your help.
My new issue......I need a voice dialer that works. The dialer that was in the shipped ROM of my 7501 was great. Is there a place that I can get thdialer in CAB to re-install to my device? I am currently using VOICE_Tri. It does work but only when the phone is actively on/unlocked. So if my phone is in my pocket and or locked, I cannot dial. The original dialer worked when my phone was locked or not near me. I really want this back. Can anyone suggest a dialer that works that I don't have to buy? Can I strip it from the HTC ROM?
Thanks in advance.

Try this! You might have to purchase this one though!
You're welcome, really.
Do you remember what you used prior to upgrading ?
Heavyweights are:
- Microsoft Voice Command (doesn't need training);
- Cyberon Voice Dial (requires tagging).
Both are commercial products, but since you rightfully own a device that was provided with either, there shouldn't be much problems if you did bit of searching on the forum or googling and found workable archives...

The voice dialer I was using previously was included in the shipped firmware on my 7501. I have no idea who made it or if it was simply part of the ROM. I did try the one offered on mahmood's site and it seems to be working well enough for now. I will use this latest one until I find another. I did have Microsoft's version when I had other devices but I often had trouble using it with a BT device. There was one that I read about that announces your incoming calls and other little neat things, but with all my reading, I forgot its name. So, long story short, I am ok for now, but still always on the prowl for biger, better, faster, smarter, easier etc.
So keep me in mind if something surfaces that is a dowlaoad (pref. free) that I can try.
BTW, do you know how to get PocketCM off of my device?

you might have to use a registry delete on that one. some how it installed in your registry...thats why you cant easily remove it. try resco registry. you should be able get in and delete it with that software.
BTW...that link to that Voice dialer...yes it removes once you go into settings and Remove Programs. I dont think however, that it gives you the option to save your settings. But who cares.... Good Luck buddy!

Can anyone provide me the tweak or registry key to allow for me to continue typing on the thumb board while on a phone call? (Presently while talking, the system defaults to the number pad while talking)

Interesting, so when you are in a call and you type an SMS or email at the same time, the "Y U I H J K B M N ." keys don't type numbers in their place? I would love to have the letters instead of only numbers. The numbers are a help in 2% of the cases, but for the most part, I want to type notes about phone calls and without having the thumb board working, I am stuck with the touchscreen and it is much slower for me.
Either way, I appreaciate your help

I'm using original spanish ROM WM6 and I have the same problem.
Me too
Let's bump this thread up the date sort:
AP 3.0, still. I can't get letters with the kbd at all when in a call, so I end up using an on-screen, or translating whatever I typed after the call. It sucks. I thought the active prg would dictate what happens with the keys. ???
I must admit the convenience of the automatic switch when in the phone app is nice.
I'm not getting why some units do this and some don't, or if it might be that people aren't using thier keyboards during a call in a different app.
Reg key? Any better ideas?

On screen keyboard or hardware keyboard? On screen works fine, hardware not since WM6.
its important to me, i would love to type using thumb keyboard while talking, i can confirm that vanilla version of 6.1 does that too but its a beta rom and i like AP4, maybe the athena project people can inlight us about this matter and creat a patch for us to use
for importancy am trying to keep this up, guys its doable, someone is required to just lead us, at least someone post me a clean (hard reseted) registery from a rom that works during call normally, and i will install it on my mobile (which doesn't type letters during call) if it works then at leaset we know its defenatly registry and there for i dedicate my life for it. any clean registry anyone can supply
PS am willing to Hard reset but not willing to reflash another rom am very tried from that business

If this drives you that nuts, then maybe you wouldn't mind doing a bit of investigation and sharing that with us?
Take a look at this registry key: HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartDialing\KeyboardMapping
There are some subkeys there, ToNum and ToSD. I'm guessing that those are responsible for the letter remapping. Would you mind taking a look and letting us know? Thanks!
Dialer/Dialer skine deppendent
It also could be that it is deppendent on dialer used in your system. Some dialers can switch keybaord to numbers and some can not. It would be nice if those who can write letters during a call could tell us which dialer is in their system.
Possible Path?
HKLM\Security\Phone\PhoneKeyMatch
Looks like this could be the ticket, will try to mess around with it and see if it makes any difference

One of the most common tasks i do many times a day, is turn the wifi in my ATT Tilt on and off. For this I have to go to the Comm Mgr and toggle it on and off. I've always wanted a one tap way of doing it, and had used BatteryStatus in the past, but its icon was too small. With Manilla2D, we dont even have that option anymore, but we do have the nice big manilla launcher.
So i put together some C++ code from myself and from samples around the web, and made a simple exe that just toggles the wifi on and off. I've cabbed it up, so that it will install into \Program Files and put a shortcut in \Windows\StartMenu\Programs called AKToggleWifi.
You can now add it to the Manilla launcher and it will show up as in the attached screenshot.
You can uninstall it from the Settings\System\Remove Programs.
I havent tested it on any device except my Tilt/Kaiser running a 6.1 ROM from Sakajati (Hyperdragon/Blackstone).
let me be the first one to say: THANK YOU.
many, many people have been waiting for this kind of solution before.
regards
bro
nice solution =D
if you got your keyboard open (for the tilt) you can always hit fn + right and it has the same effect. i just discovered the button a few days ago and it made my life easier but so shall this app.
thanks
Just flat out awesome. Works perfectly, using the default AT&T WM6.1 ROM minus bloatware.

to be honest... it's recommended for anyone.. Hbutton is very very fast and works smoothly.. and also very stable.
you can set multiple apps for every button and there are many options to customize the way it loads them... also there are options to assign
Quit, Ok, Toggle WiFi, Toggle BT.. and many more options.
mmh, i use such a wifi toggle since one year, so i´m wonderíng why you made a new one, or did i miss anything ?
the one i´m using at the moment is also here at xda devs:

so thank you for your work, but maybe next time some searching ?
big thanks for this function!!!
i'm looking for this for a long time!
i have a P3300 with alot physical buttons
then i searching to activate the wifi without switching to my home screen or comm manage to activate it.
if you can create samething for phone function
i'll be very very happy !!!!
thanks again for your work !!
i wanted something extremely simple to use, needed no configuration and didnt need other apps to be installed on the device. Hence i wrote this in C++. Yes, other tools can do more and thats great, but they all might require some setup. Since i flash often, i wanted something for myself that i can just use without using any brain energy. Hence the simple app. I'm glad some people find it useful... i certainly find it extremely useful for my own usage style. I released it to everyone rather than keep it to myself, because i have benefitted from the work by other developers on this site, and even if 1 other person finds it useful, i'm satisfied.

do you mean you want something to turn just the phone radio off, similar to how this one turns wifi off? i'll look into it..havent looked at those api's yet, but it should be possible. However, just out my curiosity, why you want to turn the phone off so often?

hehe dude. don't take this the wrong way. no one's judging. developing new apps is ALWAYS good.
cheers for the initiative.
I agree! Good on you for contributing! I want to say thanks for this app and I will be using it.
i am sorry AK and thanks again for your work.i just want to inform that there are allready existing such wifi toggles. they are simple small exe files and dont need any other application or must be modified, like yours.

Could it be possible to get the same but for bluetooth ?
