Ive checked like crazy in my settings...
Someting must be wrong because when i check email in my rose (its a hotmail account) it refuses to use the wifi connection. Even if im in an area where i have NO signal on the cell, it tries to connect with gprs/3g and then failes since theres no signal, but i have signal on wifi of course..
But if i turn phone off in comm manager, then it works over wifi!
its strange because i only notice this behavior with the email, not when using internet explorer or updating weather..
No one else has this problem??
Would be very happy if someone had a fix for this..
In Comm Manager, Data Connection is always on?
I might have an answer to this.
When using Activesync to connect to an Exchange server where push email is switched on (rather than checking for email every X minutes), the only connection used will be the phones data connection (so GPRS/3G etc) and WiFi will NOT be used. This is normal operation for Windows Mobile and Activesync.
If you set the phone to check for mail every X minutes and wifi is available, it will use that instead.
In both of the above cases, other connections (such as browsing etc) will happily use wifi if it is available.
Now I am not sure how hotmail is set up these days but I do know it delivers emails as they arrive so would put $10 on it being the same thing as when using Exchange.
What does "data connection" do?

Just wanted to know how to get push email and data connection. Those 2 things are not illuminated as far as to turn on or off when I get to that option screen. It skips over those 2. Any help would be great. Thanks.
data connection is only to disconnect not for connecting, that's why its greyed out. Any program that needs a data connection *should* automatically start the data connection. Push is only enabled after you have setup your device to sync with an exchange server.
Apologies if this has been resolved eslwhere, but I did a thorough search and I could not find the solution in similar questions asked for the exact problem I am having.
I have an HTC HD2, basic Rom 1.66.405.2 (76641)with Max Manilla, Radio version 2.06.51.07.
I have previously used Opera 9 and Opera 10 to surf the internet along with Skyfire with no problems when using the 3G connection or when connected to my home or work WiFi, until a few weeks ago. When connected through WiFi, having changed nothing on the network routers or my phone, I just cannot get to pages. The same is with the facebook app and any updates via weather or stocks/shares.
It seems that as soon as WiFi is connected there is no data connection.
I have checked data connection and it is OK, I have also tried the slider the best as suggested on another forum, even re-installing Opera 10, to no avail.
I am considering switching to Energy Max Sense at the moment but hesitating as I can't bear going through another hard reset and re-installing everything, but this issue might just force me down that route.
Any thoughts before being forced down this route?
Been through lots of different settings and basically it appears that once wifi is connected I lose all data connecions, nothing then connects.....Please help?
Did you ever get this fixed, because I am now having the same problem.
I used to get internet data connection via wifi by first turning off data connection in comm manager, then turning on wifi. I must have screwed something up, because now I cannot get any data traffic via wifi. I can't even get data from my cell network whilst wifi is on, I have to turn it off to get my GPRS connection back. Bit frustrating, been through connection setup and delete/setup network many times to no avail. What have I done... harrumph!

Why Disconnect data connection before activating WiFi?
I leave it on, still it will get data through WiFi is available.
If you disconnect data connection, you will not get data through data connection. (while you have WiFi activated, as you switch it off)
Have you tried using both at same time? Perhaps disconnecting data connection does a "trick" so you can not get data through WiFi too and you are now experiencing expected behaviour. (And that it did before was the wrong situation.)
i tried lots of stuff, soft resetting each time, I then did a full sync and backup to my home PC (work PC has firewall and stopps internet connection).
After that I did a cache cleaner and emptied a lot of trash, it did appear to be running slow. Did another soft reset and voila in the morning it was all working.
I played around with settings, double checked everything and to the best of my knowledge nothing had changed to cause this fault, so no idea if it was a problem with synching between the two PC's, work and home, or whether the cache cleaner did the bizness. Never had the problem repeat again since.
Have you tried getting settings from your provider again maybe something got wiped by accident.

It did indeed, thanks.
It appears the Evo 3D has issues staying connected to these networks, whereas the 4G on both Sense and AOSP worked fine.
Here is my network at work:
802.1x EAP
Enterprise(802.1x)
EAP method - PEAP
Phase 2 authentication - MSCHAPV2
then enter identity, skip anony identity, then enter password. Then I should be gold, but after a reboot, it can no longer stay connected.
Anyone else having this issue?
I'm having a similar issue. The wifi setup is pretty much the same as yours. Users with a Nexus S are able to roam around just fine and their wifi stays connected and automatically reconnects when the SSID is in range. I have an Evo 3D and even though it says it remembers the SSID, I have to re-enter my password whenever the device needs to re-establish connectivity (after a restart, coming into the office in the morning, etc). I am able to reauthenticate without any problems though.
Email HTC or call, notify them..its clearly a bug/glitch that's needs to be addressed

Is there a reason that an open wifi netword that has you login from a web page would run so slow. It suppose to be a 100Mb/s speed and on the computer it gets 80+/9+ but on my phone, with it saying its connected. It gets .4/.4 from the speedtest app. My home network is 20/2 and i get like 14/1+ on the phone. Sometimes I get less.
I can give it a try here and let you know what happens.
While I haven't tried the wifi yet, I did try syncing to my work exchange account, and it gave me an error saying 2 policies were not supported (installing unsigned app packages and smime soft certificates). My hero could sync with the exchange account just fine, so I'm wondering what's different. I may have to get in touch with our IT group........
This morning, my WIFI connected no problem, but I haven't rebooted it since yesterday. I seriously think it has to do with rebooting. It's a bit bizarre.
Hi
I'm not sure if it's Android or Transformer prime thing.
My google data (gmail, gcal) syncs properly and immediate when i'm @home with my wifi network, but refuses to automatically sync at the office wi-fi network.
The office network is freely available to the device, i can browse the net without any problems.
Can figure it out why the sync doesn't work.
I have noticed the same issue on mine except my home network sometimes has the issue too. I have resolve it by disabling the sync and then enabling it again. This method works for a little while then it seems to go into the no new notification mode. I have to manually refresh in gmail to get my new mail to show up. It is annoying. I even send test emails to both my phone and tablet, but it will not ccome through until it feels like it or unless I manually update. My xoom does not do that.
I have a sort of similar thing. All I know is that I'll be delivering pizzas while tethered. As soon as I get home, and turn off the tethering, my tablet connects to the home WiFi and gets one or more notification noises as it if wasn't syncing the same way when tethered. The oddity is that it doesn't know I'm on a mobile connection so it isn't trying to save bandwidth. I suspect there is something in the security or ports that makes it's connections to the home network different than when tethering, or when you are at work.
I can't speak to the issue regarding tethering, but for those of you having issues at the office, this is most likely due to firewall rules. I work for a cybersecurity software company, and have been fighting for them to address this as both my phone and prime suffer from the same thing.
If you have a good relationship with your IT/Corporate security people, try bringing it up with them.

do you know if google sync services uses other than 80/443 port numbers?
Not only did I notice this same thing happening I also noticed emails I had are disappearing when not on home network and Wi-Fi tethering with my phone this is weird...... they disappear from my gmail application......
I have an LG G4 running stock Android 6. Been using the stock email client for years to connect to a google hosted email account, via their imap servers.
All of a sudden I get intermittent connectivity to imap.gmail.com over my wifi connection. The message 'The server is unavailable. Please try again" comes up all the time. If I turn on the Private Internet Access VPN the phoen connects fine, if I turn on cellular data - it connects fine.
I ran a trace route on the phone to imap.gmail.com and it gave me one hop which resolved to a Verizon host.
My desktop connects to the same servers and have not had email issues with it, seems isolated to the phone. So my thought is that there is not anything wrong with my local network here. The rest of the apps seem to work ok on the phone, so it doesn't seem to be a global wifi issue.
Any thoughts on further testing or ideas on what to try?
Some more diagnosis steps.
I installed K9 mail and it works fine.
I tried the native mail client app on another wifi connection without VPN and it worked.
I changed from imap.gmail.com to imap.googlemail.com and get the same result.
I am running out of ideas on things to check, beginning to think that I need to do another factory reset and see if that fixes the problem. Unless there is someway to adjust server timeout settings on the native client.
