You are in for a big surprise....
Amen to that.. .LOL
I have tried (almost) all of the cooked ROM's in this Rapahel forum. Some put more emphasis on being faster and lighter than the stock and others just a better all-around package, enhancements and fixes. Each one and his own tastes with what they are looking for. There are also those who are just fine with the stock.
Trying out new ROM's is a trial and error experience and it takes time until you hit the one you like, but it is also fun and addictive... , I'm totally an addict.
If you are not quite pleased with performance or something about your phone and tweaks are not something that can fix it- you have come to the right place.
why do i feel like this thread is beating a dead horse?

No of course not, this is a forum filled with HTC Stock ROM fanatics...
To be honest I always wondered, what makes them so special.
I mean what (except additional programs or OS build updates) they do "better" that I cannot do by just registry tweaking etc.
It would be VERY helpful if there was a list with comparing bias, extras etc.

I'm feeling the same way. Surprised the thread has not been locked already.
Well if you guys say so...
My Wing desperately needed cooked ROMs cuz the stock one was so slow. Same with my Mogul, except that with that phone the cooked ones were faster but less stable.
I dunno if I want to try this on my new Touch Pro just yet. I need more of a detailed testimonial I guess before I decide to operate on my baby...

I will have to say yes, the cooked roms are better than the stock one.
Mine is majorly faster than it was out of the box, the GPS works better, and programs are using less memory. Most things you might be able to achieve on your own, however most include updates to the drivers for the wireless, video card, os, etc that you would not be able to do yourself (or at least not easily)

Lol, yes. Its like a whole new phone. ATT stock ROM was so laggy I almost wanted to return the whole thing. That's just my anecdotal experience, next time I flash the stock ROM I'll bench it if you want.
CFC compressed TF3D and such, plenty of cooked-in optimizations contributed from all over the community that the stock ROM has no idea about, you can't replicate a good chef's ROM with reghacks alone.

I also have a wing and a touch pro. I found the AT&T stock rom to be ok vs my wing custom rom. I then loaded a lot of the roms on the forum and seen how much better it could be. No overloaded os, way more memory, more gps tools, unlocked HSDPA/HSUPA, super fast speeds vs stock rom, working 3d drivers (on some but not all custom roms) and alot more changes. Try out RRE rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467592. Its the best rom I have every used on any wm device.
Well if you guys say so I'll go ahead and do it. I can't believe it gets better than this!

Oddly enough, I ran the stock Fuze ROM for a while, and I'd agree completely that out of the box it is slllloooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I flashed a few ROM's ,eventually settled on RRE until the later versions started exhibiting serious battery drain issues. I flashed back to stock to wait for a fix for that and right now the STOCK AT&T FUZE ROM is as fast and stable as RRE, with all the great battery of the original.

funny you should say that, but a co-worker of mine did do that, he returned it shortly after getting it. I was able to convince him to get it again, and allow me to "re-flash" (that was after he played with mine and was impressed)
So how do I go about flashing a CDMA Touch Pro? I hear that the HardSPL program out there doesn't work with CDMA phones.

ANyway, I figured out how to flash CMDA phones over at PPCGeeks. I will report back for possible ownage.
bad grammar, stupid question. Of course they are better, they have different drivers, newer applications, and have stuff added that can only be cooked in. Some of the stuff you can add through cabs and by messing with the registry but everything is faster cooked in

I've got TMI (too much information) on these pages. I love updating my phone but now I can't figure out what my next option or options are. I have the Sprint Mogul with Mobile 6 professional (CE OS 5.2.1622) and I installed the new ROM - 3.16.651.0 with radio 3.27.00.
I'm interested in going to the next level but what is that? Also, I want only stuff that is pretty stable - does not have to be perfect but I don't want to loose main functionality.
Thanks in advance,
tsp
Check out DCD 2.2.xx ROMS in this forum, I use and love them. I have been using ROMs from here for a long time, on my Axim and Elf, now on my Titan. Got to love the build quality and additional options they give you.
I recommend a DCD ROM as well. Wait for his next release (next after 2.2.3) as there is a bug that should be fixed very soon. You won't be dissapointed.
depends on what you want....
you want basic....stable....not many progs....go with dcd
you want basic....stable....some decent progs...go with nexvision
you want a little more advanced....alot of progs....go with colonel custom rom from ppcgeeks.com
all are good...i use colonels currently...after a little modifying and setting up on your behalf it will probably be the best rom to use until we get a kitchen and create our own personal roms...
the other two are cool...but they have the same low memory as a phone with many programs....and some core things that I like were taken out that jus made the phone...well....boring....
so its up to you...and what YOU like.
..been doing this for a while
I like DCD's rom... been using 2.2.0 and it is great... I'll wait abit to move up a notch....
Can't go wrong with DCD's roms...
HTC Home
Hey Splitter,
I am really new to making alot of upgrades and understanding some of the language. Can I get my Mogul to look like the screen in you profile pic, or possibly to get the HTC Home application so that i can get the Touch options such as weather, time, etc.
Only1
yes all you have to do is get the homeplug cab that was taken from the touch. i also would recommend the htc touch dialer so you keypad is easier to do. Just search for them. they should be on this site
Hey Mike18 thanks however i can't find it and i am a little or should i say a lot iliterate. Can you please direct.

Thanks coffey_joshua. This has been a great help, however i didn't see the weather screen or the Touch screen and skins.
once you get the htc home to your main screen you should be able to just click on the sun icon and have an option to update your city
this is sooo cool. Do you think i am going to be constantly updating my phone now, it seems to be addictive.
yeah maybe you didn't read the disclaimer about upgrading your phone.....

dcd and No2Chem
I have used both dcd's and No2Chem's most recent roms and found them both to be great. Those guys are amazing!
Currently I have NexVision's Hybrid on my mogul...based on a dcd2.x.x rom (think it's 2.2.6 but not sure) and loaded with other useful apps, it's one of the better "dressed up" rom's I have found in my short time.
Big Ups to all those guys for sharing and helping the rest of us to learn!!

I recently upgraded from DCD 2.2.1 to no2chems' 2.0 (basically for the extended ROM access). What a great ROM, I highly recommend it.
Being able to access and use the 9MB+ of the Ext ROM is a huge plus. There is also a thread at PPCGEEKS (when their web site works) that explains how to automate the loading of your favorite programs from EXT ROM when you flash your phone.
Freaking awesome.

It's unlikely you'll get an answer to that without telling for what country/network... That is unless you don't use it as a phone
I'm looking for a ROM that is fast in performance and also ROMs that are good on battery life.
Any suggestions?
Currently, I'm using NATF's 2.3 ROM, so this one is pretty early. I don't like to flash ROMs too often, because I have to get in there and load in the files that my phone previously had and I find that to be a pain...right now,
id also like to know your guys's opinions too. i posted this same kind of thread last week and it got shut down by one of the mods... its ok though.
like im having a hard time finding one i want, that has good features+quality+speed and whatnot..
you guys know what i mean?
You can flash a rom pretty fast. I have test most of the roms but what i want and like in a rom may be different then what you want and like. Try all of them and see what you like.
Man you are gonna get so many different answers. It's really up to your preference. Try a few and see what suits you, use PIM Backup or Spb Backup so you don't lose anything. I flash ROMs later at night when I usually don't get much coming into my phone during the few minutes of down time.
The reason we are quick to close "whats the best xxxx" threads is because it usually depends on an individuals opinion on the "best xxxx".
As with most threads of this nature it usually ends up in a poorly backed up argument over a few users who wont back down from the argument.
I'll leave this open for now but should this thread fall into that situation its gonna be locked.

can we have a post just a pool which is your favorite ROM, without any comment or reply?
I've tried almost all the ROM here, and still very intrigued on knowing which ROM is the most used. Also it would help other to give other ROM a chance.
The correct answer is : there is no best ROM.
Or if there is, no one has ever seen it yet. (And it is a build of WinMo7)
Each rom is customized to however the chef desires. That could match your desires exactly, it could not. This, combined with the individual skill and dedication of the amazing chefs to work out bugs, maximize tweaks and release updates, is what makes up if a rom is good or not.
It is your own self who defines good, however.
In terms of battery life:
You will find it will vary a little from rom to rom, naked and manila-free roms usually outperforming the rest. However, if you are truly looking for performance differences, try out a few different radios. Those have an actual large bearing on signal stregnth and battery life.
What roms have I used:
Quick history
Stock ATT Fuze rom + Reg tweaks + manila tweaks - (1-2 days)
ROMeOS (1-2 weeks)
Elite RC2 (1 month)
RRE (2-3 weeks)
ROMeOS (1-2 days)
I dont give version numbers since I choose a rom track and stick with it through the updates. Meaning I flashed all the updated versions to ROMeOS until switchted to RC2, then I did the same thing with RRE. Made it kind of difficult when it was jumping 4.x seemingly daily
Either way, they all performed great, just better in certain areas. Currently I am very happy with the current ROMeOS rom. However, I am eyeballing RC3 and actually considering testing out a few things on the stock att rom once again.
My input!
Well, I’ll take a stab at this. Sounds like you’re in the boat I was in just a few weeks ago, so I’ll try and give as unbiased opinion about the ROM I choose as possible. Because let’s be honest here, there is NO BEST ROM. From what I can tell, all the ROMs in XDA are well though out, and clearly have a lot of hard work invested in them, typically by freelance developers. So they definitely deserve a “Tip of the Hat” as far as all their hard work is concerned.
I actually started out knowing little to nothing about ROM flashing. So naturally I started at Flashing your First GSM Raphael Rom thanks mskip! I was fortunate enough to have had a friend that flashed his Tilt and explained to me the joys of flashing a non-stock ROM to clear up all the bloat ware that’s normally shipped with them. I had a lot of time between when I had ordered my Fuze and receiving it, so that gave me an edge in researching what I though was going to be the best ROM for me ( operative word here, ME ). Because as mrvanx pointed it, the “best” ROM is purely subjective based on the user.
I looked at pretty much all the most heavily posted on/used forums. Read what people had to say about the ROM, the problems they were experiencing, the pro/cons and overall just tried to get the best gist of what people thought about the ROM’s performance.
I looked at Lantis, NATF V4, PROven, Elite RC2 ( also RC3 ), ROMeOS^2, Da_G Clean, DCS-TouchPro-v15, TouchXperience (not yet released) and finally T.i.R. v10 R + P.D.M. 4.1. There’s many others that I’ve not mentioned, not because their any less worthy but because I just didn’t run across them in my search.
Let me say this off the bat. ALL of the above listed were in my opinion amazing looking ROMs. There were things I liked about all of them, and also things that concerned me as far as some of the problems that people were experiencing with them. That said, I realize ( as should everyone ) there will always be problems with the ROM you choose. Even the stock ROM that AT&T subjects you too is going to have problems.
What was I looking for in a ROM? User ability, overall speed and response of TF3D, the programs installed/removed from stock and the look and feel of the TF interface. I was also looking for which ROM I felt had still retained all the functions of the stock ROM with out the added useless software. PPT for instance, I didn’t need, so why would I want a ROM that has it installed, using vital memory when I’m never going to use it?
In the end, I chose T.i.R. v10? Why? The reason may surprise you, because it was blue. Yeah, I know, it’s a dumb reason, but hey, that’s my reason; well at least it’s what initially attracted me. But additionally, it encompassed what the other ROMs had as far as TF3D was concerned, used a minimum amount of memory ( not the best utilization mind you, look to Da_G Clean build for that ). Still retained functions like the FM radio, Quick GSP, Opera 9.5, easy task manager, youtube, ZIP, Labyrinth ( what? The game is addicting! ), G-Sensor Calib, enhanced Camera functions and etcetera. But overall, what I liked the most was the look and feel of TF3D in blue and the new icons.
It really was a toss up between T.i.R., Lantis and PROven. They all had features I liked, but like I said, T.i.R. was a little more unique in it’s graphics. Is T.i.R. the best? No, like I said, what’s best for one, is not going to be best for another. But I like it, and I’m resilient to flash something else at the moment because nothings broke yet, so no need to fix it! Overall, the T.i.R. team did a great job with the visuals and keeping TF3D fast. Clearly faster then the stock ROM, and far cleaner as far as third apps are concerned. It did not have a slid to answer feature, but I found a separate CAB file for that.
Overall, they’re all going to have their strong points and weak points and it’s all a matter of what you find most appealing and how you use your phone on a daily basis. Something’s you may find essential may be features like slide to answer and the in call guard screen. And obviously the keyboard fix if you’re a Fuze user.
I hope that give you, and others, a little insight about what to look for and how to choose. Research, flash and try it. If it doesn’t fit flash something else. Hopefully others join in with what they’ve experienced in flashing. What they like and dislike. (^_^) Bare in mind, the more feed back we leave, the better.
yup, Plazma pretty much covered all the bases!
1 thing that wasn't mentioned is that some ROMS contain some programs that others don't. But people here are more than welcome to supply you with a .cab that will take care of that for you.
Hands Down SSK 1.5 his rom runs smoother and is more stable than any other rom i have flashed including Juicy 4.13, MightyRom4.13, Juggalo's Newest and many more. I know this is just my personal favorite you should try it!!!

Quite surprisingly I couldnt find a thread like this, though it is a very interesting one for newbies... I tested Proven Manila HD and Panosha Pro 1.0. I must admit that of the two Proven is better and overall reeeeally nice. Both in terms of graphics/icons and speed and addon apps. I wonder if there is any other ROM worth testing. I repeat: my criteria is:
a) speed
b) stability
c) nice and usefull apps but not too many
d) nice looking and working TF3D (can be HD or TP2).
Any ROM with known issues or bugs that cant be overcome and are important are not fit for me...
Any ROM candidates for testing then to challenge Proven?

Another vote for Energy 2.0 - this rom rocks - very fast and stable despite the new TF3d still not being totally ported.
I've been using Energy since I got my Fuze, the latest I have is 1.5, no tf3d, and my memory usage at boot is 150mb free. That is just amazing. I have been into pointui2, it seems to slow after awhile, and has some bugs, but is much prettier and more useful than tf3d. Once the community over at pointui.com gets into it, it may be the best homescreen plugin. On my tilt I used Gsmart touch, and loved it. I need to try a few others, but am a tweak hog and the least memory used normally wins for me.

To get certain things that stock ROMS don't have. Like: Speed, not loaded with Carrier crap.
The ROM post should have info about what is included and what isn't.
Some are made to have more RAM some are made to run Smoother.
Wiki.
I might be wrong, but that is what I have learned overtime.

Good Question
I am glad you asked this because I have been wondering the same thing.
I have the VZW Touch Pro and was reading a LOT on unlocking and then flashing ROMs. I didnt know really what the benefits were besides speed and making it smoother. Does the ROM allow you to have better themes?
Eventually (sooner than later I think) they will be able to unlock the GPS on VZW as well.
I really wish somebody could post a video or something on YouTube on either how to go about the process or what it looks like after flashing a custom ROM.

Custom ROM"s are highly varried. You need to try them out.
I created a Custom ROM that allows you to stay with the 100% stock look, MUCH MUCH faster than ROM that came with phone.
Lots of others add a bunch of crapware and bloatware to the ROM. I didint do that to this one. I left it stock. It runs very fast.
Custom ROM"s also remove some securuity features like when youa re installing an app you are not questioned if its what you really want to do... Etc...]
Custom ROM's can also c ome with differnt themes like you inquired. They can com completly set up or come completely base. It all depends on what you want to download.
My Carrier is Sprint,
I am fairly happy with the phone as is
My only gripes are that:
it is not as responsive going from app to app as I would like
some of the apps I will never use, like the Sprint music store...
I love to diddle and play with my hardware
I do like touch-flo 3D, I think it's a nice UI, I just wish it was a bit more responsive

Thank you so much for the information scrosler! I also read your other thread about the custom ROM you made. I am very thankful for you taking the time to do this for us VZW allies. I am a first to admit that I am a noob at unlocking and flashing ROMs. I dont doubt that I could simply follow the detailed instructions that you have given us. I just want to make sure that the payoff is worth it.
Is there anyway (this really may be asking too much) that you could post a video so we could see exactly what your ROM looks like and the increased speed. Or even a video of the process? Maybe even some screen shots.
I know I will end up unlocking and flashing any day. I have my phone set up just the way I like it with many beneficial programs installed, but it is not fast enough or responsive enough. I personally don't use the Touch Flo (as sexy at it looks) just because the WinMo UI works a lot better for me and is more responsive.
Again, thank you for being so kind and sharing your knowledge and not demeaning us or being rude for all the questions we ask I greatly appreciate the time and dedication it takes to create something like this and I respect it!

I cant do a video, lack the ability, hehehe... I can however tell you this:
It looks and actis identical to the Stock ROM from VZW except is was built on a new CE OS. Its considerably snapier than the stock ROM in everything from boot up to touchflo scrolling.
Its 99.99% stock. The only differnece is the speed, IE 6, ICS, and Net CF 3.5 is all cooked in. It, unlike all other custom ROM's, has all stock VZW apps and the VZW touchFlow. Its a straight rip from a stock VZW leaked ROM. The details ont he ROM and the kitchen used are in the new thread.
Its just to easy to do.
Download file A, run it. Download file B, run it. Its not that much harder in all honesty.

Awesome Link!!! I just wish they had this same thing for the VZW Version!
Another stupid question...
Well I think this would be the appropriate thread to ask this.
I was wondering if there was any way to put 2 today screens into one instead of having to switch. Basically I am wanting a Touch Flo today screen at the top and the bottom half I would like to have a WinMo today screen with the two quick buttons at the bottom. Is this possible or am I just wanting too much? It seems like the themes for the Touch Flo look much better and I LOVE the black themes.
Any info. would be much appreciated!
I know, I know....
but i am not a flash junkie and don't want my first experience with the TP to be flashing 10 roms. I'm just looking to get a decent one (preferably not a black theme ) and run with it to get to know touchflo and the device. Thanks!
There's a good Wiki associated with this device. Get to know the chefs then start reading their threads. Took me about an evening to find what I was looking for.
Just my opinion but, NATF's all the way! And the FuzeBerry of course....
Hi there
Ive coome over from the hermes camp too (although its still running)
i would personally reccomend the lantis os roms but again, and you'll see this all over xda, you will only find the best rom for you after flashing a few
and theres only really a handful to try!
good luck and make sure you've hardspl'd and have your stock rom and radio versions written down or backed up just in case you have to do a warranty return! saves u the hassle of trying to hunt it down in the panic!

You should try them all, so you can see what the difference between a good and bad rom is. Each rom is built different for different so not all roms may suit your needs..... but i agree on Lantis OS being my favorite right now.
I personally tried Romeo, NATF and Proven and decided to stick with Proven.
I had problems with the screen shutting off during calls with Romeo.
I experienced TF3D lag with NATF.
Proven has been rock solid and I like the Diamond tweaks he's incorporated.
if you don't like TF3D go with Da_G.. I'm actually running a VGA version of HTC Home on mine.. love the speed.
Thread like these usually get closed pretty fast, I'm suprised that yours last a day
It's really all depend on what you like, they are all great. For the past few days, I've tried many of them. And to be honest, there is no BEST one. It's really depend on what you need and what you like.
Da_G is has the cleanest ROM NaTF's
Elite RC2 Is fully loaded with a new feeling
NATF Is stable, and GPS lock is pretty quick (update very often)
Proven, it's like Elite with less Applications and function (cleaner)
Romeo is very stable
.... Those are what i've tried
Check the Wikki in sticky post.
I think it is a good question that should come up from time to time.. sure everyone has their personal preferences but for a new person wanting a quick rundown on the most current ROMS to date.. just saving the guy some time downloading and flashing all those different ROMS. anyone here flashed all released ROMS to date?
I also went from the Hermes (8525) about a week and a half ago. Fuze was my christmas present .
I tried NATF's ROM for about a week and had many problems, which i seemed to ignore because of all its good feedback. I then tried Lantis OS and had no problems at all, I am still currently using it. No errors and speedy fast.
My suggestion is Lantis OS for the moment, but NATF is suppose to be releasing his v4.0 ROM sometime today or tomorrow so you should look out for that as well.
Good luck with your fuze and your flashing, and enjoy that beautiful VGA screen that i loved when i got it compared to the Hermes
I don't think that XDA-developers ever had any problems with folks discussing ROMs and their xp with the various flavors in a rational manner. We usually end up shutting down threads because the first reply is "Use search you id10t!" followed by general thread degeneration.
Anyhoo.. normally I'm one of the chefs, but with this device I've found that Da_G's direction mirrors the way I'd be going anyway. He's more interested in technical improvements to the GDI, GPS etc than in all the additional apps. I'm pretty confident that he's well on his way to creating a solid base ROM that's free for anyone to work from. Exactly what I would have done. Why re-invent the wheel?
This is what these kinds of threads are supposed to be like! As stated by a couple people previously, normally these get dismissed and/or flamed. When people ask these types of questions, usually they are not asking (at least the smart ones aren't) which ROM the SHOULD flash, but rather what is your experiances with the ones you have used.
I understand how confusing it may be trying to decide which one to use - they all look the same as far as applications that are cooked in. Only difference aesthetically are the different themes and that alone is not a deciding factor for me.
Just as everyone has stated - just try some out and see how they feel to you. ie button mapping, folder layout, apps installed, speed, etc. I personally like Aruppenthal's RRE ROM but that's just my 2 cents.
FYI: From what I've seen, EVERY ROM has its own bugs/quirks that may or may not annoy you.

Any chance you could post the version your using? I can't seem to find a VGA version and I am getting ready to get rid of TouchFlo 3D. Or post the thread you got it from.
Never Mind....I found it in the Diamond Forum...
I second the Lantis OS. I am using it as well. It is very fast and stable. I had problems with NATF's as well. But I will try NATF's v4.0 when it is released.

The one I'm using is a cab called htchome2.cab that I found in the diamond forum...works fine but the media player tab does not work.
And I have been using either Lantis or DaG Rom's....I use Blackberry Connect which adds lag to the fuze anyway but it seems to affect these Roms the least. I would be interested in hearing what Rom's Blackberry Connect users are fond of as it seems to make a big difference.
i too just got my Fuze from Kaiser. right now im using RomEOS and really like it. i might try the Da_G because i really dont care about TF3D.
I have a 20 key Neon 300 that is itching for a new ROM.
Flasher beware!
There are a few ROM's here that I have found to be pretty good. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that once you flash a custom ROM, there is currently no going back. HTC does not offer an upgrade or ship ROM for the NEON 300 US. The best you can hope for at this time is to flash Bills rebuilt ROM. It is still not the original, and any warranty you might have will be void.
Now that said, here is a llist of the ROM's that I am aware of:
HTC Neon200 Build 21046 WWE and RUS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518975
It's a pretty decent ROM, as long as you don't mind a little Russian in a few of the apps. I don't speak a word of it, but it hasn't been so bad that I won't use it. It has Manila 2D and the customizer built in. Pretty good ROM in my opinion
SETH´s NEON V3 FINAL & V3 LIGHTER
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419892
Pretty basic but stable ROM, it has a few little extras but nothing that takes up a lot of space. I have not used the "Lighter" version, but I can imagine that is is Lighter than the other edition, lol.
Seth actually has two other ROM's as well. I have not used his V1, but his V2 seems to run pretty well.
If any body has flashed a custom ROM, but decided that they wanted their old ROM back, sadly an original ROM is not available. But, if you click on the link in my signature, that ROM is probably as close as you can get. I personally used it for several months and never had any problems with it.
Well, there you go. There are probably more, but these are the only ones I have used.
My issue is with the touch screen slow downs that seem to be corrected with the s600 touch.dll file. But I have tried to install this from some of the other links on this forum but to no avail. It seems to be designed for other phones besides the neon300 or it just needs to be burned into a rom image for it to work on the 300 in particular.
Big Papa, does your rebuilt rom include this? The stock rom is fine in my opinion only because it isn't bloated out like the ATT stuff but this slow down is so annoying. Thanks.

The rebuild was intended to be as close to possible as the original ROM. It was built from a stock ROM dump with nothing added or changed. It does not have anything like carrier splash screens or other junk that would be on it if you bought it through a regular phone provider. It is pretty light, and works very well if all you want is a very basic ROM. It's pretty much what you would expect if you purchased it directly from HTC.
I'm pretty much just a layman, I am still just barely learning about programming and modding and the only changes I make are if they are fairly simple to understand, with step by step directions. I usually just read through the threads and listen to what other people say about how well things work, or what kind of problems they have been having. When they go into any detail about coding or Reg editting, I tend to get pretty lost.
Thanks for the response Big Papa Rich. And thank you for building this rom. It could be a nice fall back if I mess things up
