Did you try the settings? Make sure its not set to announce only HIGH PRIORITY texts and calls then it will announce everything Read your owners manual

I said "doesnt work", not "how do I?"
This seems to be a know issue with the ms voice command version that comes with the verizon rom.

Pretty hostile response..

Text Message issues since upgrading ROM for GPS

I performed an upgrade on my phone (scary) to get the GPS working:
But... now, when my girlfriend sends me a text message with a smiley (we're both on Verizon), I get the following: Preceding msg modified, Media objects were removed. She gets a similiar message sent back to her that media objects were removed.
Anyone know how to prevent this message and allow media objects?
Thanks!

Yes, this is not a rom issue. It's a network issue with Verizon that I am looking into. It only happens when people with non smartphones (your girlfriend) send SMS messages to people with smartphones (you) that are either over 160 characters in length or have smileys (EMS). I am working with Verizon to get it fixed.
I get this message under the same situations but im with alltel...NON-smartphone to smartphone.... I have noticed that it states that message but the "smiley"s still get sent and the message is the same as what was sent but still get that message... I have just ignored.

Must be the same network issue with alltel. It's not an issue with the rom though I can assure you.
I am in no way thinking its the rom.... figured that it had to do with non smart to smartphone...Was just adding that is happens with alltel also...But I dont see a difference in was was sent and what was recieved when I get the messages...I think it has to do with the longer messages cause it seems that is the only time I get those notices...Like I said I just ignore them..they dont cause any lack of function

Well as far as Verizon goes, these phones are not EMS capable and therefore will NOT break the message up into 2 separate messages. However, for Verizon to Verizon SMS messages, Verizon's network automatically splits the message up on the network side regardless of EMS capability on the phone. The problem was that this was not happening on the network side either. My trouble ticket has been escalated like 3 times and I've finally been informed that it's a known issue with certain message centers. They installed updates to them with a bug that makes certain message centers not split them up like they're supposed to. I was told that some still work, and others don't. I was also told that the network engineers are working on fixing the broken message centers and once they're fixed they'll contact me and let me know.
As far as other carriers go, it's DEFINITELY not the rom or radio. I would put money on it that it's the same issue with the network, but can't be 100% sure because I haven't dealt directly with them.

for some reason, it only works on the sending end. i sent a 23 text message today with 1400 somethin characters that went through fine to another verizon phone, or any other phone (always worked on the xv6800). but the return text was 335 characters and only the first 160 came through with the preciding msg modified error.

Right, well that was the issue anyway. Sending out from the xv6800 always worked. Still does. It's when non smartphones send to the xv6800, the bug in the message centers will not split the message up like it should.
has anyone found a solution for this problem? I can confirm that it happens when a non-smart phone sends to a smartphone (env2 to xv6800). it must be the way that the non-smart phones encode their long texts.
anyone found a solution to this/heard back from their company? I am on Verizon.
This is an issue with Verizon Message Centers on their network. This cannot be fixed unless their engineers apply a network patch on their end. The discussion about it can end, cuz there's nothing that can be done.

They could always just revert back to a regular cell phone so they can get smilies.
I agree that receiving any messages larger than 160 characters from non-smartphones would be a great fix. I'm tired of telling people.... "hey.. your message got cut off at....XXX... can you send me the rest?"... If they don't have unlimited text... this just escalates their text usage.

Nothing can be done? Doesn't customer complaint usually warrant severity and priority of issues? I see this thread is a few months old but the problem is still there... seems like either their support and resolution process either sucks or not enough people have reported the problem to justify "engineering powah" to get the network fixed.

Nothing can be done on our end, and nothing can be done by CSR's or Tech Support. The only remedy for this problem is, like I said, a network patch from the network engineers on their message centers.

Ya I understand your points but "nothing can be done on our end" assumes having people opening their own subsequent tickets would accomplish nothing... I truly believe customer complaint has a lot to do with it especially in the formality of tickets.
I personally just called to find out more about this and the CSR was pretty quick to understand the situation and insisted opening a ticket was a good step towards resolution... He asked for specific examples of numbers and times msgs had this happen and created a ticket... I really doubt they'll just take the ticket and close it because it's a "known issue," unless it's being consolidated into a larger work order but even if that's the case I'm sure it will just emphasize the need for a fix... I don't know about verizon but typically SLA to customers is monitored and SOMETHING would come out of an additional ticket.
Still hoping for a fix here. This is retarded, the most exspensive phone they sell, and I can't get text messages that their free phones get fine?
The problem is a lack of EMS support for these phones correct? Well couldn't EMS support be added to the phone itself? I just don't get what is different about our phones as far as the NETWORK is concerned...
GC14: can you reccomend at least a place to ***** to, to get this fixed, as far as a number / e-mail / department within verizon?

if it used to work for you but doesn't anymore- maybe want to try this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa919404.aspx
complete shot in the dark.
but searching and reading like a dozen other places with a pile of other wm phones on vz- the problem is wide spread- but some lucky son's of guns get it to work.
So might only be certain servers suck and if you get lucky the servers you use are ok and the right settings on wm might be all you need.

Successfully made phone call with flyer[7/10 not dev devices]

Someone in Taiwan successfully made phone call with flyer.
There's a youtube video and a thread opened in Mobile01, but not yet are there any details on how it is done
Just happy to know it is achievable

7/10 not dev devices , some stores can do s-on to s-off , for a price of NT1380 (US48)
it needs a s-off flyer..
so no hope for now
yes, I just saw that on "flyer android development"
so some people just happen to get a s-off flyer, randomly?
(sorry if the question is dumb, these root and s-off thing are new to me)

I totally agree with you! I believe people just bluffing....just to make us jealous, cause our devices are not able to do what their devices does.....
C'Mon we want phone call option
Proof is in the YouTube videos. Also note the previous posts about s-off devices which are rootable and allow changes to the system files. If I had a s-off device, I'd start by comparing the dialer file size.
I'm still on the fence whether I would use the device as a phone... I guess if I'm paying for a data plan and it includes voice. But I've only got the WiFi version.
If you use a third party process viewer (i.e. Astro File Manager), there is a Phone app using memory. Opening the app takes you to the familiar phone settings tab... Which allows you to configure Internet calling. Maybe more with a CDMA or GSM capable radio.... Which i don't have.
GrooveIP
I was able to get my HTC Flyer to work as phone with Google Voice using GrooveIP. GrooveIP is available from the Android Market. Once you install it, it will asks you to enter your Google Voice phone number (you can get one for free when you apply for Google voice). Then connect. That's it. I was able to make US and International calls. I am not sure if they are charging me via my Google Voice account, but I will check. Note, you will need Internet connection (WiFi or Sprint View 4G...I have a HTC Flyer with WiFi only connected via WiFi to my Verizon FIOS wireless router).
I also got Pdanet Tablet (beta) to work with my Sprint EVO 4G phone via Bluetooth tethering. So, I believe my tablet has full-time phone functionality as long as I am connected to my Sprint EVO 4G phone.

App I'm developing - need some help

I'm writing a new app that will cost users to pay a very low fee per month. It will allow them to unmask caller id that's private (such as "trapcall") and also give the user the callers name/organization (if registered) along with the state that they're calling from.
I already have the backend tested and working. I've called from private and it gives me the number I'm calling from. If the information is there it also gives me the name and location (state) of the phone.
My confusion lies with the fact that I can't figure out how the "trapcall" app forwards the number to their server. And once I figure that out, I will need to allow my server's call through and not let it get stuck in a loop. With the app, I will then need to change the callerid (name) that shows up for the new call on the user's phone (like "cityid").
Mostly, if someone could tell me how to forward calls with an android app, I can figure the rest out.
I tested the backend by running my asterisk pbx server by connecting as a user with the SIPdroid app. Then on my phone (SGS4G) I set call forwarding (manually) to the number that calls into my asterisk server. When I call my phone it gets forwarded to my server, gets processed, then I see the correct caller id on SIPdroid.
Hence, I already have everything working I just need help with parts of writing the app.

Yes and it will be available for any cell phone under most major us carriers. For services not in the us it might be slightly more difficult, but if your not in the us. Let me know your country and local carriers and I'll see what I can do

Just a word of caution to the OP. The last guy that made something that did what cityid did, was threatened with lawsuits from that douchebag company. I know your app does more than it, but just mentioning it. They have some sort of sham patent they claim is related to their product. Assuming you want to battle them out, you can probably get it revoked. It looked like it screamed "prior art."
I would love to test. Rooted 3g slide, yes its an old phone I'm working on that. In Texas.

Yeah, actually that's one of the reasons this beta release is taking so long... It's all working (well, mostly). I just need to find an alternative to what CityId does. I'm gonna try to incorporate SMS for details such as location of call and caller id. As far as the number being "UnMasked" that's all figured out

[Q] Can the Samsung Gear S be Unlocked

Since Samsung is treating it as a standalone device or like a phone can it be Unlocked as phones can? Can I walk into any carrier that has the Gear S in Stock pay it outright in full and unlock it if necessary I don't want a 2 Year contract on a Smart watch that carriers consider an accessory
I would like to know that, too. If it can completely replace a phone.
As I posted in my reviews in the Gear S General section, you can use it primarily as a phone that makes and receives calls and SMS. Consider it a feature-phone Nokia from the mid-noughties. And it needs charging daily, maybe twice for heavy use.

Over on androidcentral, someone reported successfully using it as a stand alone phone.
I received mine today and requested an unlock code from T-mo, which they say can take up to 14 days to arrive. I'll write back if/when I get it.
I also talked to ATT, and they told me they would not know how to unlock it, but I may just have chatted with an unknowledgeable person.

Thanks this was before I got my gear. But yes it can be unlocked many have gotten it. Just a heads up I'm sure you know unlocking for T-mobile will only let you use AT&T or their bootleg companies (MVNO). AT&T takes between 48 hours and 7 days some have said
^ Yes. It's a bit disappointing that they don't come with more bands.
Also, I kind of figured that the ATT info I was given was incorrect. That chat took forever and the person I talked to had no clue about the Gear S.
Do you know how to unlock it once you have the code, other than inserting a different SIM and hoping you'll get prompts for the unlock code?

How do you address spoofed robocalls (neighbor spoofing) on your phone?

For few months now, I am getting robocalls from spoofed number, classic case of neighbor spoofing. Has anyone figured out how to address it?
I usually do not answer the calls and have deactivated voice mailbox as well, but sometimes I expect phone calls where I am not aware of the number. At that moment, I don't know if I should answer the call or not.
For example, last week, I was expecting a call back from the doctor. They have multiple numbers in the practice and I don't any of those numbers. I have central number only. The doc tried calling me 5 times but I didn't answer the call because the number was not known to me. Finally, he sent me a mail on the portal and asked me to call back. So I did. I apologized profusely and luckily, he didn't mind as he is facing same issues.
I am trying to avoid such situation again.
Apps like Robokiller and similar haven't worked in my case. I have Pixel XL, fully updated, rooted but as many claim, I never get red screen on spam calls. I am using Hiya (free) too, but it isn't of much help either. I am on at&t MVNO Airvoice Wireless, if it makes any difference.
Thanks for all ideas in advance.
