Hey first post here... been a lurker in the Kaiser boards for about a year now and love the work everyone does.
Anyway, I got a Sprint TP that a coworker said he lost (so he could get a new one). Not using the sprint service but was thinking I could use the wifi to hop on my home network to avoid pulling out my laptop. Problem is the wifi just wont turn on. I've flashed 3 different roms and upgraded the radio to 1.11. Tried the program "AKtogglewifi" and double checked a reg entry as per a ppcgeeks tip and still get nothing. When I hit the wifi toggle in the comm manager the busy animation starts then it just switches back to off. If I go to the wifi settings page and click the "Turn Wifi on" hyperlink, nothing happens.
I'm open to any hints or suggestions and thanks in advance.
[the roms i tried are KK's loaded v1.1 and 1.2 and MightyROM v4.9.2]

I believe your issue is it is not turned on. most of the settings are downloaded from the cell system if the phone isn't registered no data no nothing. I could be wrong but I don't think it will work if it isn't turned on with someone. That and if he reported it lost sprint probably killed that phone.

The WiFi and GPS function independent of a cell signal. The GPS can work with a cell signal to go aGPS, but also can work stand alone. WiFi never gets any settings via a cell signal.
I have a Sprint Touch Pro that is not activated on the network and the WiFi works perfectly. WiFi has nothing to do with having service turned on.

I'm having problems with my Wifi stop working after a minute or so even though it says it's connected.
I updated my Radio to 1.5 and back to 1.48 a few days ago and now I'm having problems with Wifi. I've done hard reset and factory reset on the router and still have the same problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nope. Try using Wififofum to see if anyone in the area is using the same Wifi channel maybe. Otherwise try going to a wifi hotspot and see if your device can stay connected to that. Or resetting some of the power settings on your device, since if the wifi detects the device as 'off', it disables itself. just a few early morning ideas
thanks for the reply.
My wifi works perfectly fine at home, all my computers laptops stay connected.
The phone connects no problem, and shows it as connected all the time. But after a minute or so where its working normally and I am able to open web pages, all of a sudden pages cannot be loaded and I lose msn connection, but the wifi icon still says I'm connect, so does the wifi manager with excellent signal strength
I've just tried re-installing the original HTC WM6 Rom and tested the wifi with nothing installed on the phone (only sync'ed it) and still get the same problem.
Has anyone experienced this or anything similar?
You've got to consider that your laptop incorporates a much better antenna than your Hermes. So if you've got a low but still stable connection with your laptop your Hermes might not even see it. If you've got a medium connection with your laptop you might have an unstable connection with your Hermes.
The above is based on my own experience.
Even if I sit 2 metres away from my wifi router with full wifi signal strength on the phone the same thing happens.
wish u luck!
have you tried turning the wifi power saving to zero power saving mode, ie best performance, I find that with wifi in power saving modes its very irratic
don't know what I done, but its all working fine again now. Think it might have been the power settings on the phone
Radio 1.54.07
Yes it seems the radio does affet thw wifi and Bluetooth... have problems with both now. so going back to 1.50 it seems to be the most stabale of the new radios
THE RADIO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WIFI PERIOD END OF STORY! the Wifi drivers and such are in the Os.nb or ROM file not the radio file!

Ok so they are, changing the Radio is still affecting how they both work.. tried it few with diff roms and 1.54.07 radio with the same results. bluetooth and WiFi act erratic in all cases when 1.54.07 radio is installed yet with 1.50.00 works fine.. no problems
my wifi was working fine with dcd 2.2.6, but since the upgrade to 2.3.x ive been having issues with it. it doesnt connect to my network, or search for networks like it should. sometimes it tries to connect and stays with the wifi icon on and arrows continuously going back and forth, but wheb i tap the icon, all it shows is the cellular data connection as active and no no wifi access point. in the wireless LAN settings it lists my networks as unavailable and wheb i click add new it wont search for ones that i know are around, it just asks me to put in the name of a new one. sometimes i dont even get the flashing arrows back and forth, but just get the antenna without a circle around it. any suggestions? either known problem related or just basic wifi fixes you can help me out with.
thanks
righ after posting i saw what i think is a similar problem in the thread right below me, so before someone calls me an idiot for not searching enough i wanna get that out there
Hello everybody!
Someone of you has noticed a poor WiFi reception on Hero?
I'm experiencing a poor WiFi reception in my house when Hero is connect to internet thru an access point.
What happen is that after WiFi connection has been established the phone tends to loose it and restart connection thru GSM/3G link.
That happen also if phone stay in the same place without moving around and also when phone is close to access point location.
Any idea about way to solve the problem?
Regards.

Just an upgrade on issue...
If I turn off data connection thru GSM/3G and switch on WiFi seem that WiFi connection is stable so maybe issue come when both data connection are enabled...
Anyway is annoying shout down each time data connection on GSM/3D and power on WiFi!
Regards.
i believe wifi goes idle when not in use. so it connect to 3g or edge. However there is an app if not various in the market already to help keep wifi always on..
Do a search for wifi and see for yourself.

Thanks for suggestion!
At now I've solved turning off GSM/3G data connection when I'm at home anyway I guess that WiFi reception sometimes go away due to issue of the phone or maybe as way to save battery...
when that happen phone stay unconnected so I guess that should be better if I will check for apps that keep WiFi connection always working!
Alex
when the device goes into standby, the wifi is turned off to save battery poweer, and it will go back to 3G.
go into the wifi settings, press menu and select advanced.
select the timeout options
set to never and it will not turn off when in standby.
problem solved and you shouldn't have to turn off Mobile data, although with the settings widget on your homescreen turning mobile data off off each time is hardly going to ruin your life. in fact i tend to do this anyway, just cos i have spent too many years with windows mobile....
Here's an annoying bug I've found tho - on TMob UK
If I send an MMS from home, wifi on, it sits there, and doesn't send the message. Until I turn off wifi and 3G kicks in again.
Now I know for a fact that on my Magic, it was able to turn on 3g/HSPDA to send the message all by itself. Might have a look in thodse advanced settings tho to see if there is something I can do.. Not a biggie, just a bit of an annoyance.

I too, have been doing a search on Forums all over Google looking for a resolution to this.
I have noticed if Wi-Fi is enabled I am unable to send or receive MMS messages.
It is an annoyance having to turn Wi-Fi off each time also I am never to know if someone has tried to send a message in the first place.
Currently using T-Mobile G2 (rooted with MCR Rom 2.8) on T-Mobile UK
HI all i have a G2 Touch unlocked running Modaco's latest rom and i cannot get the wifi to stay on longer than about 5 seconds. It does search and find networks and i have managed to put in the key for my orange box but in settings/wireless controls/wifi the box stays ticked and underneath the words WIFI it says disconnected. Ive gone to advanced and told it to never switch from wifi and this is remembered but as i said it lasts all of 5 seconds then disconnects and i have only once seen the wifi icon in the task bar once for 5 secs then it went !! Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.
Maybe the signal's too weak and it looses connection?
No it doenst actually ever connect, the wifi program on the phone cuts out way before it ever finds a connection.
Just making sure you've done this:
Go to Settings -> Wireless Settings -> Wi-Fi settings -> Add WiFi network. Then enter the SSID and necessary security information. After all that turn WI-FI on
Thats what i do still just cuts off after maybe 5 secs !! I give up looks like i have a Hero that doesnt like wifi
Hmm, it seems that I had a similar issue, but I had enabled the Y5-Battery Saver and it continuously switched off my WIFI when I was in place where I had not been connected before. Just wondering if you have enabled the same app...

No i havent, but thanks for the suggestion
I've tried searching and haven't found anyone with the same issue as I.
Jellybean broke my wifi, I had no connection issues before whatsoever.
Now, it still shows it's connected to the network with full strength but when I go to use the internet or any apps, it says there is no network connection, webpage unavailable, no autosync, etc. Things are fine when I go back to 3G and nothing has changed on my phone but the JB update. I've turned Sprint Optimizer off and on, deleted and manually readded all the wifi networks, and am not sure what else to do besides hard reset. Any ideas? Also, I am not rooted.

have you done a complete network reboot (cable modem and wifi router) when having the crappy sprint connection optimizer off?
if this helps you feel free to hit the thanks button
Thanks for the help! I found the answer in another thread... Seems JB automatically turns on "DLNA auto-ip" for some people. The fix that worked for me was Settings>Wifi>Menu>Advanced and uncheck "DLNA auto-ip" at the bottom.
