Please help with Custom Rom Choice - Touch Pro CDMA

Im hearing such good things about other Roms, but i dont know where to begin...
the mods and seniors swear by the search tool on this site, but i find the search near useless when it gives results that do not even include the keywords that have been searched. And I have searched; "this rom is this" "check out jerkoffs new blah blah blah rom". But how do i know if its right for my setup? I have a verizon cdma touch pro and im in southern California. How do i know if the rom is for a gsm phone in europe?
Ive never flashed a phone before, but im not that wet behind the ears. Ive flashed countless boards and routers. DD-WRT man!
Im looking for something with a good radio, without the bulk, fast, with a tethering hack when usb connected, and that would work with my phone. It would be go to hear some feedback on the pros and cons of some rom options for my verizon phone. You guys who have been flashing roms for years dont realize that threads with titles like "[ROM} Jack_the_jerkoff ver- 3.2.885 upgrade thunderdome_elite_express_beta II" dont really inform the uninformed.
My phone is doped out right now. I have every tool and softkey set just how i want it. But its slow and full of junk i dont need or use. The battery seems to have heart down syndrome and other issues. Hook me up.

I love Schnaps 4.31 !!!!
easy to use
easy to get around
and it works!!!!
I can't wait for the new test version of touch flo

I liike JD's Rom.
Very stable and fast.

Working Bluetooth ROM hybrid!

I've been working with a great group of developers over at PPC-geeks.com on the Titan bluetooth problems, and I'm proud to say that our efforts have been fruitful!
The History:
In case you didn't know, the Titan has had horrible official Bluetooth support, and even the custom roms only get it "partway" there.
HTC's latest CDMA device, the Touch, uses roughly the same hardware under the hood as the Titan, however their bluetooth worked flawlessly. So, clearly the hardware is capable, its a matter of running the proper software!
After many attempts at porting the Vogue (htc touch) Bluetooth drivers into any number and combination of titan roms, it was concluded that it is NOT the answer (sorry custel).
This was the first obvious approach, however every attempt had some problem or bug, or sometimes wouldn't even boot up!
So we took another approach...
The Solution:
Update the OS, but keep the drivers from an earlier build that had less new "issues" with BT. The 2.09 rom from sprint had stable bluetooth, however it had poor quality over the headset/handsfree profile. This was apparently NOT an issue with the drivers as much as it was an issue with how the OS handles them!
Replacing the OS with a ported AKU .7 from a Universal, and basing the rest of the rom on 2.09, we have what appears to be a release with stable, decent quality bluetooth that works as it should have out of the box!
More testing is needed, but it seems like the best build so far, and should be a strong candidate as a base rom for future customs.
What this fixes:
-No more poor BT quality
-No more random BT shutoffs
-No more system freezes when coming out of standby due to BT stack left on and disconnected
-No more D-pad lock issues
-Generally stable Bluetooth performance that works AS EXPECTED.
Known issues:
-Alarm Bug, which was and still is a part of 2.09
However, we're working on a fix for this.
Find it here:
ftp://ppcgeeks:[email protected]/Titan/Users/sfaure03/ithinkwegotsit.rar
(as of this writing, the ppcgeeks ftp and webserver have been hit pretty hard, and are timing out an awful lot, so if it doesn't work, try again later. Perhaps someone would like to mirror it somewhere?)
Special thanks to all who contributed to this effort, particularly PPC-geeks users Sfaure03, DogGuy, no2chem, jtrag, and all the others who tested, theorized, and gave sage advice.
Personal thanks to ImCoKeMaN, for explaining how things work and having the patience to answer bizzare questions from the rest of the group.
edit: whoops nevermind
I'm not expereinced enough in using this type of file - can you please tell me what is the procedure to install a .rar file into the phone.
its an .nbh file, rar is the compression method. Its like .zip, only you need winrar (or something compatible) to uncompress it.
there's a tutorial on ppc-geeks (which I should really post here as well) about how to unlock and flash custom firmwares on the titan.
you guys rock!
So installed this ROM a couple hours ago. So far the phone's working fine. Tested BT in my RAV4. Wife says it's much improved -- previously if I called from the carphone she'd known instantly and ask me to switch it off. Now she's says it's fine. (High praise indeed. )
So bottom line: quality issues appear much improved. Major kudos!
Update: maybe I was slightly hasty. So the phone sits in my pocket for a few hours. I press the power button to bring it out of sleep. Password screen takes 15 seconds to come up. Enter the password, Today screen takes 30 seconds. Click on the Voicemail link, get a message that the phone cannot make the call. (low RAM?) Nothing else (afaik) except SPB Mobile Shell running at the time.
Boom, soft reset. Is it the phone? Is it the ROM? Is it me?
Mirror at: http://rapidshare.com/files/71094429/ithinkwegotsit.rar.html
The ROM finally makes my BT usable, but is still quite choppy and compressed. Unfortunately not a true fix for my device.
But, kudos to the developers for getting it to be usable! Thanks!!! You clearly beat Sprint/HTC!
However, my RAZR2 and Touch still have much better BT, so will keep using them at least for awhile.
Will see if the 'official' Sprint ROM (1) actually happens, (2) truly fixes the problem. If not, then I'll use my Touch until the Treo 800w or Titan 2.0 come out and likely swap my Titan at that point.
Unfortunately, even if Sprint fixes BT, Titan 1.0 will never have adequate memory for WM6. Sadly, the lack of memory is an unfixable product design deficiency.

Heh, I love it how everyone keeps badgering that.
Look, I don't want to take my thread off-course, but when WM6 was released, ALL DEVICES HAD ONLY 64MB!
It wasn't until recently that we really started to see 128mb become more standard. The Touch (vogue) is actually the first 128mb WM6 device I've ever put my hands on, and I've had WM6 running flawlessly on the last 5 or so devices I've owned.
So, don't tell me that this is a major unfixable product design deficiency. It'd be nice to have more memory so you can leave more stuff open, but if you're not new to this and know what you're doing, its perfectly acceptable.
::end rant::

I have to agree here - the Cingular 8525 runs quite well with only 64MB of RAM (Other at work run it). My Titan runs quite well with only 64MB of RAM - HTC Home from the touch on the other hand makes it run like a three legged dog. Without the 3rd party plugins it zooms along quite well even with several apps running.

OK - fair enough, my memory comment WAS off topic! BTW you introduced the word "major"; I never said it was major - just unfixable. And, yes, you're right - if you want to manually do the OS's job for it, there is an acceptable workaround.
Interesting, though, that you responded only to that one sentence out of five in my post, not the other four which stated that BT quality is poor/mediocre on my device (which is an improvement from the prior unlistenable state).
Anyway - what kind of success rate are you seeing from various forums with this ROM? I still suspect the problem is partially HW, and that BT on some devices (mine probably one of them) may be unfixable.

Why call out another developer? I fail to see how it was necessary. I'm assuming you have no life, and make roms for a living? I'll download whatever works; but because of your approach to criticize other people who try (which is EXACTLY what you do) to make something work, makes me not want to download your rom.
dishe is an such arrogant SOB, who think he's all that because he's creating ROM...well props to you that you do create rom...but its just people opinion/wish about having more ram (which is UNFIXABLE! on mogul)...you don't have to bash them for it...would u preferred an old style laptop/computer from the 2000's or newer/faster in 07's. However, you might be able to upgrade their RAM through hardware...but does HTC have such RAM upgrade for mogul!? anyways...i'm not hating on your work at all...but i just get disgusted when you go and ranted on someone post (n it was a valid post.)
ps. If you want to brag, make something that's useful w/o any glitches. Success at that then brag all you want, but at this moment you still using the public to test whatever ya doing. So stop tripping home boy.
Wow, I've heard of people venting on forums, but this is rediculous. Did you all have really bad days or something?
Look, there's a lot going on that doesn't take place on this forum. I used to be a big XDA-dev's fan, but unfortunatley I've found that there just isn't enough research and development for our particular device going on here, so I started broadening my horizons.
Maybe I didn't make it clear in the first post, but I didn't make this rom.
At least, not by myself. I worked with a team of people from other boards and we formed a group that has been testing theories and building different rom combinations to try and come up with the best solution possible currently. We've made some amazing progress, and the nostalgic part of me wanted to come back to XDA and not leave you guys in the dark.
We've noticed Custel doing similar things on XDA, and we had already tried a lot of what he was doing. We found that the vogue BT didn't play nice with the rest of the Titan rom components in many situations, yet Custel kept trying. I beleive that some of the devs in our group tried to contact him, possibly even get him involved, share what we've learned so far (collaborative efforts are the best way to go). I don't know exactly what happened after that, and I didn't ask because its not my business. I mentioned him because he's still trying something, where we've had a bit of success. Not that its a race, but it would appear that we got there first using another method. I'm sorry that you read that as a "flame" on his part, I didn't mean to disrespect. Just that we we're doing is not what he's doing, and we've tried that route already.
Some of the others in the group of devs warned me not to go posting here. Thought maybe there would be too much animosity. I decided on my own to bring the information here because XDA was always a great source of info in the past, and there's no reason you guys should be left out. Are you trying to make me regret it, as if I'm wasting my time here?
Lazy and cool6324, I'm not forcing you to try this rom. I'm also not "bragging" about what was created. I'm filling you guys in. If you don't want it, that's fine. I won't bother updating.
hey DISHE
bro u dont even owe these guys an explanation, they contribute nothing and take everything. they dont understand whats involved and quick to criticize anything they dont agree with.
it appears to me that they think they are all that and a bag of chips/ but if the DEVs of these fixes decided not to share, i bet they would keep there mouth shut real quick/
bottom line bro, dont bother posting any more responses to these idiots / look at the end of the "
Hard-SPL - or how to not brick your PDA ever again" post and u will see what these guys are like on this forum, calling each other names and etc just like they r doing now.

Lazee,
its not about kissing ass. Its about appreciation for what these guys do (AND FOR FREE they do it!!!!) they rarely ask anything of the rest of us, if anything at all. Because of the fact that they do give up alot of free time, which they could be doing something else, to help out alot people they dont even know, i have a certain amount of respect for that alone, regardless if they might seem arrogant. the truth is that they really do care about people or they wouldnt even share what they do! theres no law that says that they have to share anything with us/ sometimes its easy for us to forget this and take it all for granit/ lets just call a truce and stop with the name callin and etc and try to maintain a respectible forum ok.
PEACE!!! come on guys we are all in this together
Oh and by the way Custel, u rock bro, do what it is u do and dont stop!! dishe luvs ya nothing personal, i dont want to speak for him but i get the feeling that things might have came out wrong when he was responding to the "lazee's post and was just a lil fluddered.

Which ROM is best for my Sprint Touch Pro

Like most I dont like the stock ROM. The only one I have tried so far is KK's Loaded 2.0. I like it a lot but it lacks in some areas. Mainly I like how in landscape it gives me the normal home screen. Where it lacks is that the battery life is horrible, I can barely go 12 hours on a full charge, and it is sluggish going from portrait to landscape.
The only real functions I use on the phone is text messaging, email through outlook, the Google Maps GPS and the internet to check facebook and google stuff. What im looking for is the ROM that will give me the best battery life and usability for the above functions. I would like to have the normal home screen in landscape and a faster response from portrait to landscape. I rarely use any of the microsoft office programs, I dont play any games on the phone, nothing along those lines, I literally just do the things mentioned above.
So for the people that have tried and tested the various ROMs, which one do you think is best for me? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
If you want WM6.1 with the original Touchflow try ENERGY ROM 1.0
If you want WM6.1 with the new Touchflow try ENERGY ROM 2.0
If you want WM6.5 with the either Touchflow try ENERGY ROM 3.0 standard or with original Manila.
If your having battery issues it's more than likely due to a mismatched Radio and Rilphone.dll, the rom you flashed probably has a different rilphone.dll and you did not update the radio to match. You can get radios and cabs for rilphones in the stickys. Just make sure the 2 match.
None of the roms in this forum, unless you really like your boot screen.
Check the cdma forum or ppcgeeks.
lol u shouldnt flash any of these roms on ur phone man they are for GSM and ur device is CDMA. so unless u wanna mess ur phone up u should probably head over to PPCGeeks
edit: ted u beat me but brannutz u mite wanna consider making sure u know what ur talking about b4 giving advice in the future unless ur being malicious or u dont care if the blok bricks his device
THIS ISN'T THE FORUM FOR YOU!!
Right above "Raphael Rom development" is a forum called "Raphael CDMA", which is for sprint & verizon phones. Flashing a ROM from this forum will brick your device!!
it's funny how no one reads the stickys before posting,,,,,good thing people got involved quickly or else it would've turned into a "my phone won't turn on' thread...
go to ppcgeeks, that's a CDMA phone you have, we're all about GSM here. you might want to look into any of the mightyrom series.

People's Experiance, Best Radio ?

I know that it depends where you live etc, but i noticed a few other HD2 users from my neck of the woods (south wales) just wondered what radio your using on your HD2's and how you finding the signal etc.
I'm currently using radio 2.12.50.02_2
And battery life is good, signal is ok but no where near as good as my old sony ericsson's.
I also get a fair bit of fluxuation in the signal, this morning i tried to reply to a text and it wouldn't send, about 4 sec later had nearly a 3 bar signal and resent and it was fine.
Does this just happen ? is the hardware just not as good as the old phone's used to be ?
Or has someone tried a different radio in this sort of area and got better results.
I had a HTC Magic and the signal wasn't as good as the sony's and my mates are saying there Iphone 3gs phones are poorer to than older phone's, so are these smartphones just not as good a phone as the older ones ?
Thanks for any info...
I have the same question Looking for a great Radio for Poland/ Central Europe.

your tempting the wrath of mods asking questions like that, its completely subjective, meaning everyone has different ideas on whats best and we're not grown up enough to have civilised debates on such subjects so id give up and just try them one at a time, be sure to use the correct .50 / .51 version to go with your ROM otherwise you will have some issues ive had better luck with the more recent ones however, in my opinion the early ones (2.07.*)had better sound but the battery on my device with the programs i used didnt last as long, then we went through a period.....in my opinion.....where the sound was shoddy, and now the most recent ones seem to be holding their own according to me, that is
mines 2.12.50.02_2 but make sure you get the right one or you may end up bricking it!

Yeah i get its subjective which is why i said "people's Experiances" as for getting the mods all wound up, i would have thought it quite usefull to know what radio people are using for specific area's and how they have found them in day to day use, could save someone an awfull lot of messing about which i presumed was the whole purpose of this site

Agree with Wakers on this one..
Should be a thread of what ppl use for their region that suits them best
I have a pretty bad signal in my appartment, so its essential to have the right radio version. I tried a couple of radios and 2.06.51.07 is by far the best. The signal bars are the same as with any other radio, but calls don't drop and data connections are stable.
Yes, HSPL first, very important, then i thinki did ROM and then Radio

yes in an ideal world we could all get along fine but every now and then we get people treating us like children it has got better recently but to give you an idea, not too long ago we were told subjective comments are not aloud and we cant say, xyz ROM best incase we hurt the feelings of cooks, apparently human beings lack the ability to understand the difference between subjective comments and facts, but anyway, read that link end to end, read some of the comments after it and chances are any question you may have will have been answered already on there,.

Best Froyo ROM out now

I just got a replacement phone thanks to my T-Mo insurance because my last Vibrant hard-bricked and I want to know which 2.2 ROM is the best as of now, I"ve used alot but don't know the best one. I'm not touching 2.3 again since i want a working GPS.
The best one is really just personal preference. That's like me asking what's the best fast food place is for burgers or hot dogs.
Just test out a few of them for a couple days and judge for yourself.
What he said.
I was on MIUI earlier but some strange reason, it drains my battery even in deep sleep. I made sure I turned off everything. No dice.
So, I'm back on Froyo, specifically ZenDroid. Nice to see my battery not losing so much power.
There are no good Vibrant ROMs. They're all trash made with Windows 7 hacked Ubuntu. All our developers are heroine addicts who use their ROMs to spy on our credit card passwords. The CM7 and MIUI developers are actually government agents infiltrating our phones so they can use the cameras to spy on us.
You're better off switching to a nice feature phone. Or maybe a basic one without GPS so they can't track you. Or a toaster. It can't make calls or use apps, but it makes toast.
Seriously, where do we find these people? Burner, do you believe you're the only person to ask this question? Do you think the thousands of other people who asked that question all had their threads erased so the answers they were given have been lost to the abyss forcing you to ask yet again? There's a search bar ON THIS PAGE. Type in "BEST FROYO" and you'll see all the other retards the same question you just asked.
*sigh* Need to calm down. Will just imagine this is your face...
Yes, I know I could be nicer, but come on! I answered this question like, a week ago. The same question has already been answered on like, the second page of the Q&As!
Yes, use the search engine, because we all know what is available doesn't change over time. If you find a post that says Bush is the president, he must still be since nothing changes. Also it's so much easier reading through numerous misc posts then to just ask one an get an answer.
Side note I made the decision to go back to Froyo last week and opted with Zendroid.
Someone has an extreme amount of hostility built up inside lmfao....still being a internet tough Guy I see...:-/
Not that I don't see the frustration within seeing this dumbass question every day but damn kiddo...take a load off and relax
Why not try CM7?
This is a very stable, excellent ROM, Great GPS capabilities, with everything working, fast as hell and very smooth, just do the 98 bad ass tweaks and the V6 script mod, enable Voodoo, and Heathens GPS GB fix and ya got a sexy looking, race car with all the bells and Whistles "Toxic Crazy8" Froyo Gone Crazy on Ginger"

Actually, DJQuick made the best point. It's like asking what the best ice cream is.
As far as searches, have you ever used Google before? There's this little doohicky on the side of the thingamajig that says "advanced". Pretty sure there's a date and time to search thingamadoohicky there.
Are you saying you don't get tired of seeing the exact same asked and answered question over and over and over again?
How do I root my phone?
I can't get to recovery, what do I do?
I can't get past the Vibrant logo, what do I do?
How do I go back to stock?
What's the best Froyo ROM?
What's the best phone?
What's the best Gingerbread ROM?
How do I flash a ROM?
What's the best battery for the Vibrant? (My favorite, as it was asked while the "Best Battery" thread was on the front page still).
If you put up with it, the people with the answers burn out and stop coming here, and then what do you have? Anarchy! That's what!
I agree with your points kaintfm, but the thing is youve got to understand alot of these threads are made by kids and very young adults...and no one likes being talked to like that...not even you

[Q] NOOBIE here might have buyers remorse..help me love my gtab :)

Hi!
I am a NOOB here..(yes my post will prove it) but I know from what I have read online and from other sites that someone here may be able to help me.. I know once this is read someone will want to post"Why didn't you search first?" Well I did and came up with a ton of threads(some relevant and some not but none really were what I am looking for I think) I am constantly travelling with my company and really do not have the time that some here may have to search all the posts for what I am looking for..plus I suffer from severe adhd which unless it is laid out step by step I get distracted and wander..like I am doing now lol... So please be gentle and I hope someone here can find the time to answer my question.. And again thanks
Here goes!!-
Been a lurker for awhile but been away(overseas) came back and had a great deal( I thought) on a viewsonic gtab cross my desk for 125.00...so I took the plunge from casual reading on net that I could root etc.. I have never owned a tablet so this is my first..
HELP ME LOVE MY GTAB!!!
Now I didnt know which subforum this belongs and if the mods have to move it so be it.. but I need help..and this is the help I am looking for-
I hate the tapntap..I want to root but do not know which rom to go with..I game alot and watch videos alot and grooveip alot... I hope that helps people in the suggestions for which rom I should use. I am computer savvy and follow instructions well...so please point me to anything that might help..I of course would love to have the latest (ics) but hear there is some limited functionality..if I am incorrect in this and some of the limitations in gingerbread please feel free to correct me.
I like to tinker...any cool tinkering/hacks I can do to this tab(that wont completely brick it lol) any sites to suggest..sites for people that love their gtab etc
Basically I just want to feel I got a good deal and I want to root but dunno which one to go to..and I want to keep my camera (for now) but if I see I am not using it much I may flash to something else later...but guys give me all your advice on which rom I should go to first that is the most stable and will suit the needs I outlined earlier... thank you for letting me be long winded..
BTW I love the site but feel overwhelmed with this..which is why I posted..so don't hate..appreciate that I look to your knowledge lol
Hi Bro!
Like you I was kind of lose with all this information about Gtab. My poor english made of google translator do not help me. But if you read a lot, perhaps you can reach something.
Did you know that site? http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/
Well, that name isnt encouraging, but you will found good and easy information in this site. You know, easy steps, everything explained. Good to begin with.
Currently I am using this rom :Beasty/Clemsyn Ultimate Froyo Combo - Simply THE BEST (1.2 bootloader only)
Very fast, good for everything and all things are working, I guess.
Well, read a lot, read again and try something. As always, If you brick your gadget, all responsability is your. Let us know if something go wrong. If you reach success, let us know too. Is good substantiate, your problems can help other people in future.
As I already said, sorry for my poor english.
Good luck Dude.
I agree with jonnybr. Beastly-Clemsyn is my favorite rom when it comes to the stability and speed, at least for me, nothing else has matched it. Everything works, camera, hardware accel., even newer versions of most Gapps and most games work with no problem at all. Only exception is that if you use a USB mouse with your tablet, the orientation will be messed up but that's the price you pay for Skype to work.
If you are quite savvy and enjoy tinkering, maybe try a few different roms and see what you like best. Some of the others that are great are FrankenTab, CM7 (runs great but no HW accel.) and of course ICS (no camera yet and still a Beta build), but if you are looking for a working camera, low risk of problems and stability your best bet is to try one of the Froyo roms like Beastly or FrankenTab.
Funny, I started messing around with mine when I first got it to add functionality and make this thing actually useful and enjoyable. Come to find out, I get more use and enjoyment out of tinkering and messing with it than I do actually using it for it's intended purpose!
I have to agree with jonnybr as well. We were all noobies to at one point, but you made a well worth investment on the tablet. This tablet is virtually brick proof with the NVflash method. If it where me I would stick with a 1.2 boot loader, you can get the NVflash file from the link posted by jonnybr. That boot loader is ultimately the best for stability and reliability. Beastly rom is the best for a froyo rom. For visual pleasure I would lean towards VeganTab. Granted HW accel. is not the greatest, its a hacked version, but it is a 2.3 Gingerbread rom. A lot of potential with that particular rom. For me I currently am using DRH ICS since I don't really use my camera for anything special. This thing is more or less my touch screen netbook. Happy hunting.
