Hi,
I would like to announce running kernel on HTC Oxygen. I use kernel for wizard, made some modifications and kernel is running properly. I'll put some screen shots.

hi Ankit...
check this link..its from kaiser rom development...thought it might help us...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470649
This Kaiser port don't work on Gene. They have a different hardware.
The first thing needed to run Android is a kernel that support our hardware.
A good place to start is here. They have a kernel (linwizard) that may boot on our device.
oh....very nice thought..U all r doing great job....
carry on...
@ ramersonw
is it like emulation or it will boot directly ???
r u interested in it so we can make it possible
It's a kind of emulation. The kernel will run on wimo using Haret. The linwizard project has a version of Haret that works in the Gene processor(TI OMAP850). It's like a vmware prog.
To run linux on our device we have to:
1st. we have to make the Haret work with the processor of the gene (stable)
2nd. make the Linux kernel works with the hardware of the gene (write drivers for touch screen, cellular radio , bluetooth radio, etc)
If we have it, we can run Android, Opie, GPE any flavor of linux for mobile.
I'm very interested in port linux (Android) to gene, but is not an easy task and will also consume very much time.

count me in...i am ready
hi ankit
when you say `count me in' what implications does it have...hehehe just in case...
im also VERY interested in a faster stabler gene...and i feel linux is the way to go...BUT ive recetly used windows 7 on a dual boot with my vista system and i tell you it is FAST...in fact not only faster than vista but even XP on a 512 mb ram system!!!
...also i must admit it is MUCH slicker and faster than the LinuxMint 6.0 based on ubuntu 8.10 which i had running on my system!
...what im trying to say here is that if MSoft does to WM& what they have done to Vista in Windows 7, i think we r better off using WM7 than linux...for all practical purposes!

Not necessarily. Linux is probably the most stable OS after SCO, if I am not wrong. And it is also the most light weight OS as well. I guess you can run Linux on a P II 450 MHz system with all the goodies with fair speed . So imagine what it can do to your Gene .

Ya, Uske liye thindigit forum hi kafi hai, kyun ankit?
Linux vs Windows
Ofcourse, I don't have any intention, otherwise why would own to WM Devices ?
One of them would have been Moto Ming . What I was saying is since a few you guys (the real developers) are thinking about porting Linux to Gene, there is no point arguing about sticking to WM for the heck of it, come on you people are developers, and once you get your hands on source code, may be you will make it even better than WM! Hope you are getting my point (I am not a developer though).

Haven't tried it, but all tutorials on the internet about compiling android are for linux. Probably because android is a linux based operation system. I don't think it's possible to compile on windows
Install linux or use the live CD...
well I guess I'll have to install Ubuntu then
Thanks... and any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Sorry, it's not quite as simple as that. First set up your Linux install, and all necessary tools (check the Android developers site), and then come back and ask where to begin!
any chance by making an htc sense ui custom rom for it?
Custom ROM
Can I also get the custom ROM for SG 551?
Thanks,

If you want to take someone's complete and working kernel source and compile, the learning curve is not too high. If you want to take some source and mod it like the site that you linked, you are just going to have to take the time to learn a lot of stuff. I started my quest for Android and kernel knowledge about a year ago, and I'm not sure that I could work that out right now.
The first thing that you need to do is install Linux in a VM or dual-boot it. I love Windows. I use it everyday. But you are going to need linux for this. Sorry. I recommend Ubuntu or Debian. It will make other things easier for you too, like compiling AOSP and/or CM source, if you choose to do that at some point.
finaly some help!!

1) You'll need an arm toolchain. I just sync CM source and use the one there but that's me.
2) the commands that I usually use are:
"export PATH=$PATH: path_to_toolchain"
"make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-eabi- -j4"
3) This page is actually where I started from many months ago - http://blog.coralic.nl/2009/10/25/how-to-compile-the-htc-hero-kernel/
4) If you look at the code in Android Builder (link in sig), you can get the idea too. I based that part of AB off of #3 above.
5) EasyDev (in sig too) also grabs kernel source and compiles it.

Hey guys,
i'll try to get an Ubuntu Touch port running on my Tablet.
I've taken UbPorts 5-1 branch and synced it with cm12-1 cm sony source. The cm files build fine.
For the ubuntu files i removed ant-wirless to build the files.
After build finished sucessfully i added the ubuntu specific kernel configs and build again. Without any erros
Now i want to boot that baby but i don't get past the Xperia Bootloader screen.
I can't enable last_kmsg to debug the deivce because i get build errors otherwise.
So what i think of at the moment is that there are some wrong parameter for the sony boot.img ... but not sure about that.
Maybe somone of you can help me bring up that baby for us all.
Cheers
Moritz

Hi, I just got everything working nicely on my Dell Inspiron 580. I am running rooted Remix OS 3.0 MM 64-bit and I am trying to use a TP-Link usb Wireless Adapter RTL8188EUS which I am assuming is a Realtek Chipset. So I am wondering, is there a kernel or patch that will get it working? How do we flash or compile kernels in Remix OS? The wireless is my only stumbling block to make this into a Media PC. Any suggestions seriously appreciated
You can look at this:
https://github.com/JideTechnology/remixos-kernel/issues/4#issuecomment-261435959
After you have a ready custom kernel file, you can just replace the old one in ISO or in already installed location.

Do i need to change permissions on the new kernel? i am going to backup the kernel i have now before i start changing too much ? Thank you @Vioner ill let you know if i can get it working
