Hello, I have been looking all day to find out how to lock the screen during a call.
I keep getting random things happening when I am calling… Hanging up, calling someone else, programs running… etc… Hanging up is the most common for me.
I would like to have the screen lock when connected but have the hardware keys still active so I can end the call. But I also need to be able to get to the keypad and other areas when on a call, but I would like to have to unlock the screen first.
Thanks!
Have you tried hitting the power button on top to turn off the screen during a call? then if you need to get to something you tap the power button again to turn on the screen again. Simple, effective.
That solution does not work with a bluetooth headset. When you disconnect your call via headset, the screen comes on even if the power button has been pressed.
I have S2U2, but I can't figure out if there's a way around this 'feature.'
You should try Throttle Lock. It locks the phone very well.

I have an SPV M2000.
When I am not using it I suspend it by pressing the power button briefly.
I have it configured to use button lock so that everything is disabled except the power button when in this mode.
However, quite often when I get it out of my pocket the damn thing has switched itself on again.
Any idea why or how it is doing this.
I have a Southwing bluetooth headset which is paired with the SPV.
The build in lock just aint good enoughf.
You must get a 3 party locking program.
I Use NiceStart http://www.trancreative.com/nicestart.aspx
It just locks for alarms also, meaning that you wont get notified befor you turn the device on.
It will light up as it does now, but only with the login screen promting for the password, so no data loss due to unmanaged screen presses.
thanks. i will give that a look
Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the display while in a call? On my HTC Touch Pro I was able to just press the power button to achieve this - but on the Hero the power button is also the hang up button.
Any ideas?
Actually it's supposed to turn off automatically.
IMO the problem isn't turning the screen off during a call, it's turning it back on when needed.

I agree completely... Is an annoying issue that display go away on call because if you need something, ie keyboard or see call duration you need to do something for have it back.
Why not try this app, which you shake to wake the screen - not tired it myself but worth a go
Shake Awake
If the screen goes blank during a call you can simply press the menu button to wake up the screen again. Just tested that and it works fine.
Still, it would be nice to be able to turn it off when I want and not have to wait for it to time out to switch the display off.
You can also press the answer button to wake screen while in a call.
As to shake-it-to-wake-it, with the non-stick coating on the device I would probably be likely to launch it out of my hand !!! haha
Sprint Hero
I just picked up a Spring HTC Hero this weekend and am finding the same problem. When I place the phone up to my ear the screen does not shut off. However since the end button is also the same button used to turn off the screen, I'm in a catch 22.
For now I have to wait for the screen to time out. Turning the screen back on is not an issue as many have mentioned.
Hi all,
Im liking the Hero a lot but i have one niggle. When i make calls i tend to use a bluetooth headset. So as u can imagine i dial / select contact, press DIAL and then i would normally put the phone in my pocket.
Only i cant coz the screen is still active. Grrrrrrr. I have to wait for the 15 sec lowest time out to activate before i can do that.
On my ELF i just used to dial then once ringing, press the power button to shut the screen off. On the hero this action disconnects the call.
ARGHHHHHHH hehe. Guys i have looked in the tools section in the market place but cant seem to find anything that will help.
can anyone help me out here with tips / tricks or an app ??? I just want to press something that will turn the screen "off" without disconnecting the call
Thanks guys,
AndyG
Is there any setting to force phone to lock screen after finishing call? I'm using earphones with integrated mic, so I end call by clicking button on remote while leaving phone in pocket. And it unlocks after finishing call, waiting for screen timeout to lock it again. Quite annoying...
And also using phone with headset is quite annoying, because I would like to lock it after dialing call and put it to my pocket. But I also have my power button set to end my call. Voila, we have problem. Power button ends my call I just started. So I can disable this behavior in settings, but then when I use phone without headset, I always forget to end call by onscreen button and put it to my pocket with call still active. Best solution would be some kind of headset detection, which alters behavior of power button during call. Probably could be done with Tasker, but I kinda dont want to leave it running in background just for this. Any tips or ideas?

I have actually two sort of related problems.
First is that, when call comes in, even though this thing is really to big too hold up to your ear, the call doesn't automatically default to SPEAKER. There is a button that needs to be touch AFTER the call is answered to put it into speaker mode.
The second issue is that, as soon as you answer the call, a lock screen requiring a double tap to open comes on keeping you from getting to the speaker button. In another place I read that this lock screen in intended to keep you from inadvertently dialing or hanging up and such when holding the phone to the ear.
This lock screen has about a one second timer on it so getting to the button is very tricky.
This lock screen makes it all but impossible to be on a call and set up a second call to make a three way. I don't do this very often so it isn't that big a deal.
The ideal solution for me would be to get the device to default to speaker phone on every call.
The secondary solution would be to disable that lock screen so I could immediately hit the speaker phone button as soon as I answer the call rather than have to answer the call, double tap to unlock, and scramble to hit the speaker phone button before it locked again.
Since I have already tried and failed to be able to get in to change the SMS limit, solutions that require the same kinds of actions probably are no good.
I a wondering if there is a replacement Dialer/Phone/Contacts APP that might solve the problem??
