Guys,
thank you very much for your reply.
However none of this actually solves my problem.
I tried Wisbar, but it does NOT hide any of the icons that I want to hide.
Also, the thread mentioned does not say anything about HIDING the three icons, only about changing their look.
Am I wrong in my judgement?
Cheers

i think you are wrong, because if you know how to change an icon, you can change it to an one transparent pixel icon... if im wrong, would someone please correct my assumption; i only changed the start icon of my taskbar, but i think you can take an icon in the colour of your taskbar background, so it would be "invisible" ... am i wrong??

P.S. im also sure, that you can hide the icons with wisbar advanced eventally with the "wisbar advanced desktop" called variant that i used 2 years ago under WM2003, but its not easy to configure i remember

you are right about making icons transparent, but this does not solve my problem. I need MORE space on the taskbar, (the icon that displays number 1 is really annoying and USELESS, it serves for NOTHING at all). If I make the icons transparent, I will not see them, but they still will be there ocupying the precious space that I would use for somethibg else.
I tried the wisebar and I like it, (it is similar to Qmenu I am using), but again, it does not allow me to get rid of the annoying icons.
Am I doing something wrong? well, I am doing a LOT of thimgs wrong, but I mean in this case ...

Ok, now i see your problem, but im afraid, cant help you, but im still sure, that its possible to solve ...

I know for sure that wisbar advance does allow what you are talking about (but I'm not sure what the number one is though as I don't have that item on my taskbar). Make sure you aren't using the lite version. I dont have wisbar install right now so I cant remember exactly how to change it, but I know if can be done because I wanted the almost the exact some configuration as you and was only able to get it via that program. Play around with it some more and if you stilll cant find it let me know and I'll check it later when I have time.

Have you searched for reg edits? I know you can remove the battery. Notifications are a bit harder though. I'm pretty sure Wisbar advanced lets you customize what icons are present, but Wisbar basically just covers up the taskbar with an overlay.
What do you need all this "extra" room for? If you edit the phcanOverbmp.dll you can delete the icons, leaving only the ones you want. It won't "remove" the icons but would make them invisible so it appears to just be 1 long bar.
I dunno, but I can't figure out what you need all this extra "space" for. It appears that's gonna be your best and fastest solution without requiring a 3rd party app to always run in the background and having to deal with the overlay of Wisbar.

its easy,
All I want to have is on the taskbar ALLTHE TIME:
TIME, BAttery and notification, but the two marked icons (ASL and Edge) prevent me from viewing the rest ofd the icons.
I just finished testing with Wisbar that unfortunatelly does not allow this. These two stupid icons that are no use for me, cannot be removed with Wisbar (latest version).
I would search the registry but where... And... I do not want to get rid of battery and time....

Same problem
Hi, I just want to remove the number 1 on the task bar. I have just installed the onyx ultimate 4.2.1 and it appeared after I turned on the cellular on the comm manager. The number 1 referrs to the phone line 1. It really annoying to se it there.
please help someone!!!

Hello. Also same problem. Also using the HTC Touch Pro (right forum, right? Pretty sure.)
This is whats on my Elite ROMS system bar:
I would like to get rid of the big H icon. It goes ot the same thing the H(with signal bars) does! And I would be able to see the entire programs name if it were removed. That, or at least my notifications wouldn't be grouped into the "Talk bubble" icon. I hate when that happens. Three friggin clicks to dismiss an alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any idea? [subscribed]

Thank you for bringing this up because I use OzIM and nothing drives me more insane than not realizing I have a missed call because of the multiple notification bubble. I would be happy just to see signal strength, and thats it. I use a battery bar at the top of the screen so that battery status can go away. I hope someone finds a solution I would life to know as well.

Why not just edit the DLL files where the icons are stored...that should do the trick.
Use reshacker to edit the dll files..

what ddl files are they stored in?
Wont that only make the invisible (vs GONE). I.e. the goal is to recover the space they are inhabiting and slide the others over towards the right.
Removing the image will only "blank" out the space, not slide the others to the right.

use icon size 1 pixel width...make transparent.
They are stored in shellres.192.dll and phcanOverbmp.dll...maybe some other places too but the majority should be there.

ok ... I'm pretty sure this isnt gonna work based on the pervious comments in this thread.
But I wont know til I try. So off I go to try....
Found the shellres.192.dll file .. but if I try to copy it off the device via activesync, windws wnt let me. What gives???
How do I get it off my phone?!

Here are some linkks to registry "tweaks" for some of the icons displayed in the Taskbar:

How completely remove call history and calendar from Home

Completely remove call history and calendar text from the homepage.
So I worked on this for weeks. Baffling. anyway i did it. I removed the date, the calndar and the call history from the home page. It was so easy i feel silly for not getting it sooner.
Take file 590ad244_manila and drag it over notepad. Then edit it as I have done in the file I included in the zip.
Also to get your homescreen completely clear of dotted lines and calendar icon and small arrows. Install the cab.
1-4-09 I guess if you have probs with zips of manila i uploaded a no cal call hist cab
nice. Can it however be replaced (instead of removed) with something more usefull than the calendar, like a today-plugin? Now THAT would be an app / hack I'd double over for!

What people were requesting in all of the threads was a clean clutter free home page. I am sure that it can be replaced. But I use an action screen with 9 options. I also have 16 tabs. Have no need for more options on the home page. I can even erase the clock to make it completely empty. Might do that since I have a clock tab coded from Dman.
everything clean
So I removed everything but the clock. This cab will do it. Got rid of the am/pm too-who needs it. i know if it is day or night
Edit: 1-6-09 This cab will make your home page like mine- but you will keep whatever clock you have. Also: even thoough dotted lines, icons and text is removed-the position on the home page can still be tapped to open call history and calendar. It is basically an appearance thing. I wanted to see my home page without clutter.
Nice work!! I assume that you can revert back by un-installing the program?

Manila is all stored in the rom. These files are only manila changes. When you erase the original files involved and restart the phone. Manila will be rebuilt from the rom.
Here is a list of the manila files involved
1bbfdc9b
4e670504
6aec5f68
7e640092
74ddfccb
590ad244
4820c63b
The cab installs these alterred files into your windows folder
can you explain which files to edit to remove the call history only? if i remove just that one will th ecalendar button move up to take its place? after adding the call history tab i think it is silly to have it taking up space on the home screen. plus i hate the icon it uses.
Will this mess with Sprintclock? Also can you make it so the date still appears?

It does not effect the sprint clock-I have sprint as well. Edit the 590xxxx manila so that the date still appears. It is easy. just open the file in Notepad and then save it and put it in windows-here is what the file I gave you says.

i have been playing around with this and have it setup almost like i want it. i edited my 590ad244 file to match yours, but i left in alarm off. i installed the no lines cab and noticed that it takes away the lines and the icons. it also took away the alarm clock icon next to the words alarm off and i think i have narrowed it down to 1bbfdc9b but i cannot make heads or tails of that file. comparing an untouched version to your version, it looks like you pretty much just wiped it out. do you know how to isolate the alarm clock in that file so i can have just that show up?
also, even with the words, lines, and icons gone the links are still there. so if you touch the home screen it will still take you to missed calls or the calendar.

That is all true. The alarm icon is in the 1bbf manila. The appearance of the alarm text is in 590ad manila.
The actual screen area, and homescreen options for tapping sections of home are all in 1c684cd68. It would take some serious editing in a hex editing program to change the options in this file.
thanks for the confirmation. i like the idea of this, but i think i will leave it alone for now. i could deal with no alarm clock picture, but my the clock looking weird drives me nuts. that and the links still there, essentiall hidden. thank you for all of your contributions. you seem to be pressing further and further into the customizations and i learn more and more each time you post a new thread.
I removed the lines on the home screen and my alarm clock info is still there, which is great!! Only problem with this .cab is that I am now dropping 10-12 Program MB's overnight when I'm not even using the phone. I would only drop a couple if any before installing this cab. Any ideas on what would be causing this. This is the only thing that I have added to my phone in the 2 weeks so it has to be this cab
Manila only

This is awesome! I wonder if a cab that clears both these and the clock would be possible, leaving an entirely clear homepage? I haven't yet come across the cab for removing the clock, but I'd test it with this one to see if a complete clear was stable.

I've come across the same problem. I have an alarm set for 7:15am. As you can see from the screenshots, the text still appears. (the alarm icon is gone however)
When you click on the clock area, it still highlights. The alarm value may be part of the clock area? When no alarm is enabled, it will still display "alarm off" in the middle of the screen like that.

I'm not familiar with editing manila texts but I thought you might have an idea on this. The process will be complete if this gets solved. (Actually, now that I remember it, appointments also still show up as well if you have any in the system.) Your work is very appreciated!

Little help, Please!!

I am either not using the right search terms, or searching in the wrong area...
please forgive me!
What I am looking for has got to have been done before, because I see it in themes and ROM's. I have been running "Da Mad Scientists" Onyx theme, but am looking for something more simple.
All I really want is:
1) Clear flip clock
2) Background on all tabs
3) Annoying Sprint logo gone from the top right of the screen
4) All the ugly yellow gone -please.... please.... please.
There is more, but I have been able to find CAB's to address everything else. I have found some CAB's that attempted to clear one of these 4 items off the list, but they did not work.
The main reason I want to simplify is because I did not realize how slow my phone was operating until I broke it and got a replacement. With the stock phone, I have little to no hesitation after finger taps. When I had it "tricked out", I had to wait... sometimes up to 2-3 seconds between taps. (not long, but it seems like forever when you are in a hurry)
I am running a 100% stock Sprint Touch Pro with a 16G storage card if that helps.
Thanks for your time!

Is it possible to move the date information from below the clock to above the clock in place of the annoying Sprint icon?
If not, how about removing the alarm on/off notification?
Thanks again!

I take no credit for any of the following cabs. I have attached a .rar file which has:
The clear flip clock (you have to install sprint2flip clock first) and also a clock without the background flaps.
Mun's BG for all Tabs with Analog clock (if you dont like the clock, install one of the other cabs to replace it)
And the manila file that overwrites the "sprint" logo (I believe)
You have to forgive me because I no longer use the stock rom on my TP, I use WM6.5 so I cannot provide screen shots of these items, also, I want to emphasize that these are not mine, they are from when I had the stock rom and wanted to do thesame. ALL CREDIT GOES TO THE ACTUAL MAKERS OF THE CABS, NOT ME!!!
Thank you so much!!
I have saved the .zip, will test & trial soon and let you know!
Thanks to those that created the CAB's!

With the Manilla:
I am sure that I am doing it wrong; I have never delt with file replacements before. This is a shortend version of the error I am receiving...
Cannot copy... ...Access denied
Be certain that there is enough storage memory, that the destination is not write protected and that the file is not currently in use.
With the mUn Back4AllPages_AnalogClock CAB:
The clock quits working, it displays "Orange" instead of "Sprint" in the upper right corner, and the slider icons on the bottom are off center.
It does, however display the background on all tabs...
All the other CAB's work flawlessly, and I am really appreciative of your help putting these together in a ZIP for me… and thanks to all the people for their hard work putting together the CAB’s.
Just a note: 1-Sprint2FlipClock CAB also changes the top bar… it displays the date and reduces the Sprint logo to just “Sprint” text.
A little help with the Manilla would be great!
Thanks again!

Manila file
you need to use Resco Explorer or another variation of such, like total commander, this is because the regular file explorer will not allow you to overwrite the files that are in the "ROM" portion of the phone.
You can find TOTAL COMMANDER here: http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
PS. Total Commander is also attached to this comment. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much!!
With your help, I have this phone ready to rock-n-roll!!
I hope I do not have as many issues this time as I did last time... boy it was slow!!
Thanks again!

[Q] [Request] modified buttonbar/statusbar for 101

I was looking for some nice honeycomb touch for my 101. I already found a gingerbread framework wich looked very nice, however unfortunately my archos 101 gets bootloops everytime I try to install it.
I was wondering if its possible to move the buttonbar to the statusbar (with arctools maybe) and then move the bar to the bottom of the screen (as seen on honeycomb). I would also love to see the search icon removed, as its useless in my opinion.
Otherwise some help to get the framework from this post succesfully installed would be highly appreciated.

Moving the buttons to the notification bar is easy, just use urukconfig on uruk, or Arctools on stock.
I may be able to remove the search button as well by editing the virtualkeys files.
Moving the bar to the bottom though, I'll have to look into CM7 and see how they do it, but it may not be possible on froyo.

It looks like the virtualkeys files don't control the buttons once they've been moved to the notification bar. Not sure if I can remove buttons.
To move the bar to the bottom, CM7 did alot of java work. I can move it to the bottom, but I can't get it to expand upwards. I have to modify the logic in StatusBarService.java, particularly the performFling method on line 1159, but it's gonna be really hard. Not even sure if it will work with froyo. I'll keep trying.

I did try looking into this (before I got distracted by my shiny new Transformer )
Once you move the buttons into the notification bar, the icons change. These new icons are found in the "drawable" folder of the framework-res.apk eg stat_sys_back_p.png. There are also associated .xml files, but these just tell the system which icon to show when the button is pressed. Haven't yet found where the appearance (order, size etc) are controlled.

[Q] possible to hide status bar in lock screen?

hey guys. is it possible to hide the status bar from the lockscreen? I'm good with .xml, .smali or any other kind of edit. i just need to be pointed to where I would need to go.
I tried searching and came up empty handed. i'm trying hard to like the lock screen. i already changed the backgrounds (much better now), currently working on a custom lockring, last thing would be to hide that ugly status bar...it's only showing me what the lockscreen already shows anyways.
thanks for the info.
Download the app Widget Locker...U can remove taskbar and also a lot of customization to your style
I'm a big WidgetLocker fan, with my own custom themes made and all that when i was on the Evo 3D. i'm trying to move on with the times and use this nifty sense lockscreen. just has a few kinks to work out.
but if i dont end up fixing it to my liking soon enough i'll download widgetlocker again.
anyone else have any ideas as to how to get this done?
If you go into titanium backup, and freeze statusbar, it will do what you want, it will also remove in regular screen, possibly decompile lockscreen.apk and see if you can do it there.

that is not what I want to do at all. I don't want to make the status bar unavailable everywhere in the system. just within the lockscreen.
if I knew where to go, I can make .xml and .smali edits or whatever else. I just don't know how to search for things from scratch :-(

I'm just guessing, so this could be a useless thought, but... I think checking in idlescreen base would be a good start. You wouldn't probably want to mess with this in system UI because that would likely just hose the whole bar. Team d3rp seems to have maybe figured out making the bar transparent, which would leave the icons and if course be clear everywhere else too... but it's still finicky across the roms, so not quite done yet. pstevep is the man, and maybe could help? See what you can find and then maybe send him a pm.
bumpity bumb
bump, bump, bumpity bump.
any way to do this?
i would say edit lockscreen.apk (decompile and fish around) and also look in a androidpolicy.jar probably some lines of code your could remove/add to make it happen.
clever idea by the way. i am still trying to resolve issues with my idea of clearing notifications from the lockscreen by double tapping the home key. had it figured out for a little bit but it was causing apps to force close :/
again i like your idea... i probably wouldn't use it myself simply because i wouldnt be able to see important details or notifications etc without unlocking the phone

[Q][ST15i/ICS]Status Bar: Battery/Transparency

Hi Guys,
Before I begin, I'd like to shoutout to all the great devs here in XDA who regularly updates us with their mods while living their own busy lives.
I'm using a ST15i on stock ICS and managed to customize it by reading around. I've rooted my phone from GB to ICS and flashed custom zips to add or modify certain functions and changed how it looks to give it a different feel and to better suit my taste. I've reached a point where I can't modify it anymore due to lack of knowledge and training. And now I'm here.
Can anyone point me on how to change the transparency of the status bar, change the battery icon of my choice on my ST15i running on stock ICS? Also, can you help me in reverting to the stock icon fron "No available network"? All the info I found didn't help me. Tried the kitched but that didn't work for me either. I'd rather learn how rather than be spoonfed.
This is my first time posting here, so go easy on me.
Thanks!
I don't think a transparent statusbar is possible in ICS. In earlier versions, it was just a case of making the statusbar background itself transparent.
But Google have made it harder to do with later versions.
To change the battery icon, you just need to change the png files in one of the drawable folders in either framework-res.apk or SystemUI.apk. With the Mini on ICS, it's most likely drawable-mdpi in SystemUI.apk.
If you want to change how the icon works, going from changing every 10% to every 1% for example, then you need to decompile the app and edit some xml.
It's a little long-winded, but it's simple enough and I'm always happy to help. The battery icon mod was the first one I found out how to do and I spent months trying to figure it out. Literally.
It's worth checking out Tickle My Android from the link in my signature. It can do the battery mod for you, if you want it to, and can handle all the decompiling and recompiling as well actually taking apps off your phone to begin with.
Not sure what you meant about reverting icons..is it possible you can provide a screenshot of what you want to change?

Hey there, Ticklefish! Thank you for taking the time to reply. You're one of my favorite devs here in xda.
Could you take a quick peek at this? There's an update on his notification toggle for a transparent status bar so I got me thinking whether this was possible or not. As for the battery, I'll still have to search for the battery icon I'm fancying about or I might have to create it from scratch. Sorry, I forgot to mention this but I tried to use your tool. I just didn't know how the battery icons would look like that's why I chickened out at the last moment. Instead I used it to create a zip to flash a stock SystemUI.apk to remove the Notification Toggles which I had extracted from an earlier CWM backup (Can't find an uninstaller. I figured all I needed was stock to remove it). Great tool, by the way.
I can't post any screenshots at the moment since I haven't been able to add that feature to my Mini yet. So I'll try my best to explain what I meant about reverting the network icon. If you would notice whenever you lose the network signal an icon appears on the notification bar? Well mine used to be color grey and had a yellow exclamation point beside it. Now it's all red. This might not be an issue for some but it's pretty hard on the eyes. I'd like to have the old one back.
Just to give you an idea, I'd like to improve my Mini's functionality and aesthetics while keeping it as close to stock as possible. So far I've managed to:
-Insert Reboot/Reboot to Recovery
-Use Wavelock
-Use Xperia S apps (Alarm, Callscreen, Clock, Conversation, Contacts, Font, Home, Keyboard, Phonebook & Walkman)
-Supercharge
-Notification Toggles (which I removed)
Changing the status bar and reverting to stock icon for no network signal is next on my list.

Wow! Didn't know that. Just tried it just now and it worked. Thanks! Will be posting/updating once I've recreated the situation.

Well, it might be possible. There's a lot that can be done if you just know how. I'll have a look at a transparent status bar soon. It was incredibly simple to do on early GB so hopefully it can be done on ICS as well.
There are a lot of battery icons out there. If you find the ones you want, TMA can put them into your app for you, or I can tell you how to do it manually.
As for the icons that come with TMA, you can see what they look like on the thread. Some look better on HDPI, and our phones are MDPI, but the tool can backup your original app so you can just try whichever one you want without being in danger of losing anything.
Changing that icon should be pretty simple. All you need to do is find out which image file it is and change it. Either by downloading one of the GB roms here and taking the new image file out of that, or by using a graphics program and just recolouring it yourself. If you're doing that, and if you're in a creative mood, you could even redesign the icon completely..
Thanks for the kind words, btw. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know!

OK, I won't hold back in asking for assistance anymore.
I've attached a screenie of the icon problem I'm facing right now. If you would look at the upper lefthand corner, it's all red. I wonder if it's the same for the other ST15i Stock ICS users. It' used to be grey with a yellow exclamation point or something like that (can't recall how it exactly looked like but, yeah, something like that). Now for the battery icon, I'm fancying the Purple Android Battery Icon in TMA, only in green and shouldn't mess with the original height of the status bar. I've cooked a battery icon using the kitchen and it messed the height of the status bar. Could you also point how to manually change the battery icon? I'm trying to do it myself so I won't be asking around here anymore. I think others will benefit from it, too.
The stock SystemUI.apk that I've attached came from a stock version of my ST15i's ICS. I wondering if the network icon is found in the framework-res.apk, not in the SystemUI.apk. Since I've flashed the stock one and managed to remove the Notification Toggles but Red icon is still there.
Hopefully, you can find something with the transparency of the status bar. Thanks for all the help!

That icon might be in framework-res.apk but I suspect it's SystemUI.apk. That's where most of those things are. This is a stock icon so flashing a stock system app won't do anything to change it. If you want, you can change the icon yourself by loading the png into a graphics program and messing around with it. If you want it to be grey and yellow, then you can make it grey and yellow.
Battery icons won't change the height of the statusbar. Android automatically scales images to the right size. As long as they're in the right folder. The Mini and Mini Pro both keep their images in drawable-mdpi for ICS. If images are put into drawable-ldpi, drawable-hdpi or even drawable-xhdpi (which would be insane on such a small screen), Android will scale them for a low, high, or extra high resolution screen. Which will mess the statusbar height. Your battery icons can be any height you like, they just have to go in the right place.
By the way...Tickle My Android will automatically put them in the right place. Just saying...
To change battery icons manually, you need to use apktool or a utility that uses apktool to decompile framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
Hey....Tickle My Android uses apktool...(subtle, ain't I?)
Then find the battery icons in whichever drawable folder they're in. They might be in more than one but that's not an issue. Replace them with ones you want.
If you're changing how often they change, you'll need to edit the xml files in the layout folder. If you got your icons from a kitchen, they should have come with the right xml files. In fact, if you've got a version of the Purple Android icons, you could use TMA to put those on first and then change them to the icons you want. That'll ensure you get the right xml files.
Then you use apktool to recompile the apps you changed. Make a copy of the original app, use 7zip to copy the res folder from the recompiled app into the copied one (this will ensure it's signed correctly), extract resources.arsc from the recompiled app, add that to the copied one at store levels of compression and..well, that's it.
The copied app is now ready to be put back onto your phone.
Eyes glazing over? Brain leaking out of the ears? I know it sounds complicated but it's quite simple once you've done it a few times. It can get a bit tedious if you're doing it a lot....which is why I wrote Tickle My Android in the first place.
