Just updated radio to v1.56.70.11.7z and the HSDPA on 850 mhz stopped working
HSDPA at 850 Mhz is required by TELSTRA Australia
Downgraded to v1.54.30.10 and all is ok

GT-S5830 Qualcomm HSDPA
Noob help, very please, and sorry for the stupid question. I bought GT-S5830 in Australia, factory unlocked. Want to use it in the U.S. with AT&T SIM 3G. All I get now is EDGE.
Does the info below mean I need a different CHIP/Phone to get S5830L or is there a setting I can change somewhere under a *#*# code to get this so I can use 3G (since I THINK AT&T requires S5830L: HSDPA 850 / 1900 to get 3G)?

You cannot change the radios on your phone, so if you're sure you have the HSDPA 900 / 2100 version there really isn't anything you can do to get AT&T HSDPA 850 / 1900.
Hi....i got a little problem in my country we have Orange Dominicana from Dominican Republic...supposely their 3G network is this one:
CDMA N/A
GSM/EDGE 900 MHz / 1800 MHz / 1900 MHz
3G 900 MHz
But i have the i717 and when i go to *#2263# to force in to 900 band it will only read edge so its kinda slow. but when i use my phone in Claro Dominicana network they have:
CDMA 1900 Mhz
GSM/EDGE 850 MHz / 1900 MHz
3G 850 MHz
It works perfect in 850...the 4g icon appears on my bar. Now ppl say its because the att wont work on orange and only the international version will, i dont know that, is there a way i can solve this? maybe flashing the international modem on my i717 or are they the same? Thanks!
Why two threads?

Sorry. The modem chip in the note is 850 and you can't change it.
I am looking to get one of these for my trip to Brazil, and later on, Germany, but I am confused about the differences between the US GSM version and Global GSM version.
Both seem to have identical radios however, it's stated that the Global GSM version is only 2G with T-Mobile, which is a complete deal breaker.:
Both versions have the same radios:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
Is there any way to flash the radio on the Global version so it's fully compatible with T-Mobile?

Band 20 800 MHz
450 MHz CDMA ”3G”
800 MHz LTE ”4G”
900 MHz GSM ”2G”
900 MHz UMTS ”3G”
900 MHz LTE ”4G
1800 MHz LTE ”4G”
1800 MHz GSM ”2G”
1800 MHz GSM ”2G”
2100 MHz UMTS ”3G
2600 MHz LTE ”4G”

as far as i can see everything below 4g will work just fine, but only 2 bands for 4g out of 5 are supported. So you migh have problems with 4g
