I just made this for someone on DA and thought some other people might want it too. I just want to make sure it actually works, so if you guys could test it I'd really appreciate it. Backup before flashing just in case something goes horribly wrong, don't blame me if your phone explodes (highly unlikely) or if you get bootloops (somewhat likely) and don't have a backup to restore from, blah blah blah. Original thread is here for images and such, and I don't know if I'll be maintaining this. It's pretty simple between cm7 roms though so it shouldn't be too hard.
I WILL NOT PORT THIS TO ANY OTHER ROMS NOR BE MAKING IT INTO A THEME CHOOSER APK. ASK AND I WILL EAT YOU.

Hey Thnikk,
It's me (Weredawg from DA)
It worked perfectly (CM7 x99 kernel)
Thank you so much for the port (oh and I asked a dumb question on DA, figured it out and realized you didn't want people to ask for a theme apk...)

It's cool, from what I understand the creator didn't want it to be a theme chooser app because it left a lot of stuff unthemed. If it ever becomes one, it'll be by him so anyone interested in that can take it up with him.
I'm really happy that it worked though, thanks
thanks it works just fine
I really love this theme, but I would like to test the other themes via CM7's theme chooser. Only thing is Matted Blues (this theme) is not set up that way.
How exactly would I go about taking this zip and have it work with CM7's theme chooser? So I can easily switch themes on the fly without having to reflash this one.
I'll also ask my Android class tomorrow.
There are some really talented folks in there.
UPDATE: Checked the original thread and it looks like the creator is going to make a theme chooser port.

This theme still works with theme chooser, it just replaces the stock (named system) theme. Basically, if you were to get the stock GB theme back, you'd just have green and orange highlights everywhere instead of blue. It may just be personal preference, but I think the blue looks better than stock GB.
If you want (for JAMT, no?), I could make a new package that includes the lockscreen [here] for you. It would only take 2 seconds
I could also make a post explaining the really easy way to theme stuff if you'd like.
Oh no that's fine.
I've been using Widgetlocker for all my lockscreen needs and the last update finally got rid of the stock Sense clock
I liked unlocking the Sense way but didn't like that clock.
Only thing I want really is to get the flashable zip you made, and turn it into a theme for CM7's theme chooser. But in your original post you said you would eat us if asked :X
Oh but learning how to theme stuff would be cool to know.
Thanks.

Sorry for not replying, it's finals week and I've been busy. EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES.
Theme chooser app is in development right now and the dev says it should be available this/next week. I'd post a link but I'm on my phone and lazy.
And those directions... as easy as the process is, it's kind of hard to type out. Would you mind if I explained it in a video instead?

Welcome to Starship Nexus. A Cyanogen based Rom designed to be lite-weight, simple, fast and efficient like any good Starship should.
THANKS
All praise goes to the CM Team and the Nexus 5 development community.
I had honestly never intended on posting this and was more a project for setting up my phone the way I like it. I have been developing in the past for the most part as part of different organizations who's initial purposes was to just bring Cyanogen to different devices.
https://github.com/Chairshot215
Up until the Nexus 5 I have never owned a supported device so as mentioned have worked with different teams to get CM up and running on mainly Sprint or VM devices. Also being the Art School Dropout that I am have also spent the past few years starting with CM-7 creating alternate themes for each device I have worked on and have released different versions of the starship theme for Sense, Touchwiz and other devices and have created a stockpile of images over the years to work with for each variant all sharing a common design. Unfortunately all those images are HDPI and will not work with the higher resolution of the Nexus 5 but what can I say developing has been a big part of my life over the years and although the Nexus 5 has no shortage more experienced developers it just feels strange not actively working on a Rom so have decided to go ahead and post what I have as I work on theming and adding different options and customizations.
Features Include
Now Launcher as the default Launcher.
G-Camera
Heavily Themed
Bare-bones app selection.
GCC 4.7 Compiled.
many minor modifications to numerous and insignificant to all be listed but includes things like customized text for example changing instances of generic terms like device to be more specific and allowing non market app installation as the default for those of us who may have owned a Kindle and either purchased or installed enough free apps of the day through Amazon that installing the Amazon App Store is a first after flashing. Otherwise would be a lengthy list of changes I don't think would make or brake anyone’s decision on installing the Rom.
Kernel Version is 3..4.41 which is nothing compared to other Kernels. With that said the Kernel is based on the current CM Kernel that although has incorporated many back ports from higher kernel patches starting this late in the game it is not easy to apply other patches even if already done so by other developers because other kernel patches had been made at earlier times so it is not as easy as just cherry picking entire patches as after confirming the CM team has not already incorporated each individual change each change must be tested individually. So anyhow that’s what’s going on with the kernel. Have also incorporated a few other changes not included in the version patches or by the CM Team from other Kernels like Omnirom for example. I would otherwise like to thank all the Nexus 5 Kernel devs as the patches are based on those found in other kernels like UBER and LiquidSmooth taking common commits between many different kernels to form each patch. Otherwise I plan to continue improving the Kernel as I work on the Theme. Kind of excited as for the most part working with other teams have always been the vendor blob guy and looking foreword to learning more about the kernel. The Kernel has not been tested on all CM11 Roms but is compatible with current Official CM-11 builds so probably will work with most CM-11 Roms built from the current source so will include the Kernel only as a separate download.
Each individual change made as part of the Linux Version Patches are explained in detail under the cm-11.0_testing branch. The Version Patch commits are grouped together under the primary cm-11,0 branch without individual explanation for an easy view of what changes or commits made to the Kernel are made outside of the Linux Version Patches. The testing branch link below shows all changes tested before added to the Starship Kernel as well as the individual commits for each change made as part of a Linux Version Patch.

Yeah it is definitly at this point bare to the bones and will post a few screenshots in a bit. Ultimitly I would like to base the theme somthing like the original incarnation of the Rom from what I had done with the Motorola Triumph. Posting a link to the thread for the screenshots to give an idea of what to expect in the future.

There is a script that runs the first time the Rom boots that removes allot and moves the necessary files for the now launcher to work correctly from a staging directory to ware they need to be placed in the system & data partitions.
After this script has run a second script cleans everything up including the staging directory.
https://github.com/StarshipNexus/android_device_nexus_starship-common/blob/cm-11.0/cleanup
Is done this way to prevent needing a specialized Gapps package for every update as the Now Launcher requires newer libs for Google Search than what is found in the Gapps zip that would be replaced when the Gapps zip is flashed. So in short for multiple reasons the zip is large but by the time it starts installing apps the first time the Rom boots it has been slimmed down pretty well.
Very slim. Now I test it.
I have updated a few new thing. I have first been testing out new Bootanimations and default Wallpapers. Nothing set in stone although kind of dig the new Wallpaper. The Bootanimation is from the G2 as I have also been working on porting the G3 Stock Rom ported to the G2 so is more a port of a port. Anyhow decided to give the Boot animation a try. The G3 is also the source of a few of the new Icons mixed in with a few Blur and other images. Most notably are the buttons and settings divider line. I have also applied patches for the 3.4.16, 17 and 3.4.18 Kernel version patches along with different Audio and a few video Enhancements.
Posted an update, mainly because I found a few parts of the theme hideous. Is definitely getting there though and starting to see glimpses of my pre xxhdmi resolution Starship Roms. Looking at the last updated screenshots definitely need to hit up some text colors for next time. Otherwise happy how things are coming along and posting is definitely motivating my Ars. Think are not yet downloads so going ahead with aditional text color. Just in case will add a b version in a few.
Filename is 20140930 not version b
Made more changes for next time with the Teal blue taking up the right side of the Statusbar leaving the left using the OG White. Doing this because some user intalled apps will add images on the left and think it looks silly mixed up between the two so each side of the Statusbar will have its own color. Using the darker Teal in place of the lighter Teal / Blue coloring I have used since Froyo after reading an article about how certain colors help reduce battery usage from the display depending on the display type of the device. I have been desighning the Rom in a way that it can be built for any device with a CM port official or otherwise with most of the changes being aplied through a Starship Device directory so far requiring only 2 lines added into the device directory importing the Starship directory like shown in the below link to the commit for the Nexus 5. With that said Im going to end up changing the name as I built what has been completed up to this point for a friends Moto as simple as adding the Starship directory and adding two lines into the device directory.

Anyway posting these things in advance because I havnt seen many opinions or feedback on the current look and feel but can see a steady number of downloads so if anyone has an opinion or idea for improvment let me know. The current incarnation or reboot is still very young and as some may have noticed things are changing pretty drasticly version to version so could still use any help anyone is willing to offer.
Instead of reboot think Im going with reimagined, seems to be the new term going around.
Ok. This rom is rock. Do you will its development?
Wallpaper
Anyone got a separate link for the wallpaper please?

A call to the community to use RRO instead of CM's theme manager.
https://plus.google.com/+SykoPompos/posts/5M7tzmgHZpu
Sony intent on having swappabale themes worked with google to devise the current implementation of rro that provides a much more secure way of going about it.
They modified the asset manager to accept apks with just resources and map out the id of each resource in android and then overlay the modified resources at just runtime so those resources can map out to rro's changed or new resources to act like they were always part of those resources but only as long as that apk is there and loaded into the system.
With this system, it provides security because the system is already given permission but still confined in all of android but it is also powerful because new resources can made to add features, translations and so forth very quickly (OEMS are actually using it now to prototype )
With this system in place, the code was merged into aosp for lollipop, unfortunately with google keeping lollipop source mostly hidden, nobody realized that it broke in the process until 5.0 was already out and Sony quickly patched it in aosp for the next release (the 5 commits that need to be cherry picked for rro to properly work)
This means that future stock builds of android has this native theme engine built into it and Sony and Samsung and HTC are actually already using it (rumor is this works already in gpe Sony and Samsung lollipop builds) so it makes sense for the community to embrace it and build on it as our own project.
Cm though decided instead of embracing RRO (maybe they didn't know about it) ported their legacy code up for the theme engine with so much effort instead of looking for a new way with 13,000+ lines of code instead of probably about 200 lines of code to adapt the theme engine into was was already there so there is a ton of redundant code that is completely ridiculous.

Just started learning about this. Do themes have to be RRO specific or do CM themes work?
@sandys1
A thread to link to a G+ page does not constitute as a development thread.
This belongs in general.

I think the security model differs in RRO , so I suppose it is different. I was not able to find a lot of documentation though.

Yeah me neither. Thx
Two issues with this.
1. Nothing in your post is even remotely related to development.
2. RRO aka Layers, is still in beta. I doubt it will be anymore bug free than CM's Theme engine. (see post here).
You didn't link to a github, or any other form of code repository for developers to use. So I'm not sure what you're calling for them to use... Pulling a G+ post into their code repo won't do a whole lot. The only repos I can find for the group developing this is: https://github.com/BitSyko as you can see, they really don't have anything related to usable code posted.
So do you have links that would be useful for coders... or is this just another "HEY EVERYBODY CHECK OUT THIS COOL NEW THING I READ ABOUT!" post?
*edit*
After an hour or so of searching around... Here's the link you should have provided...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...o-apps-rro-t3012172/post58406220#post58406220
Post 2 provides the links to the code changes that must be included in the rom to use their layers (rro) system.

They have to be RRO Specific. See their Wiki
Thread moved in the correct section.
We should have a list of which Roms support
Liquid Smooth supports it sorta? Although the dark and blue overlay does nothing for me
Hi there,
Here's a theme that is not exactly a theme: the originals/defaults apks are modified (framework-res, DeskClock, Contacts, Dialer, TeleService, SystemUI, Settings, Mms, Keyguard).
I'm perhaps oldschool, but I don't like flat design and hate android's green. You will find a dominant of dark blue not very saturated and copper
This can be flashed ONLY on the last CM11 version (12.5) from MrSteve555. And note that ONLY french, portuguese and english are available (wiped other languages).

Cheers

Thanks ! Good to know at least one guy like it! You can't port it to your rom ?
I will probably switch to a 5.1.1 rom in the next weeks and so will make a port

I think I am not good enough to do that , lol. I'm on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/development/rom-binomical-v1-1-final-t3111555
I love the Sony interface, that of cyanogen is so minimalist
You think it could work on 4.3 ? ??(not really sur)
But if i change for a 4.4.4 rom, be sur, i will choose Mr steve work, just to have a look on your great job :good:

Also don't like at all cm11 design.
Everything is possible actually, but it needs some hours of work: decompiling your apps and mines, searching for what to modify, detecting differences, etc.
It does not require a lot of skills, more a question of patience. Perhaps a themer can do that, but it seems that we don't have a lot of them on XSP ...
I do not master everything you scored , but thank you for your answer and keep up the good work.
Hello,
Are there any kind souls who can share the latest mobile theme editor (v4.15 if I am not wrong...) to everybody? Apparently, I read from everybody that Samsung pratically rejects everybody that requests for it, even including professional themers. And whats more, I am not even a themer... However, I am desperate to make my own custom themes as the themes in the theme store sucks and are full of childish themes. I know that there are which shares the mobile theme editor but they are not up to date and most of the UI in Android M cannot be themed.
Or perhaps some themers can help me make a theme for me? If you can, please tell me and I will send some screenshots about the theme that I want to be implemented on my phone.
Anyway, if you are Samsung Developer, please only make the request compulsory if somebody wants to publish his/her theme to the theme store and make the Samsung theme editor public to everybody so that we will be able to make our own custom themes.
Thank You for reading!
Cheers,
XenRon

Yes Please
I've been doing Theme based mods (and more) since the days of my HD2 and S3. I used to use the UOT Kitchen as well as home brewed hacks. I am currently using the outdated V3.x.x Samsung Theme Editor that I found somewhere on XDA. It works...but barely. It's missing many options of my G930W8 stock rom.
I have researched and it seems Samsung is tight about allowing anyone to use their theme software. Even if you apply and jump through the hoops as a developer, other users reported that they are strict and/or lazy to approve.
It's just a cosmetic theme editor. Really quite harmless and hard to mess up.
Would like to see version 4.x.x available to folks like us.
Since nobody wants to share, J am going to try applying! I am left with the last step which making the application icons...
Will get back to you guys as soon as I get my results!
