Getting to optimal target resolution, can be done step by step, that's how I arrived at optimal resolution for Touch-HD.
1) Target resolution = 800*480
2) Aspect Ratio = 800/480 = 1.666666666666667
3) Now start tweaking one of the parameters, lets reduce the height to 348,
in order to maintain aspect ratio we have to multiply (1.666666666666667 * 348) = 580.000000000000116 ~ 580
4) Thats it !! now set your target resolution in the converter to 580*348 and see how it performs
Make sure you increase your bitrate to get sharper and better quality.
For Touch-HD, I use the following configuration:
Target Resolution = 540x384
Bitrate = 1500

Since I'm using Linux on all my systems but am also a little too lazy to try and find out the optimal ffmpeg-parameters for my Blackstone - would it be possible to get a non-compiled version of VideoConvertor? If it's java, it should probably be fixable for Linux too...

I'm having problems in converting a 720p mkv file to a WVGA (800x480) format. For some reason, the screen keeps getting stretched vertically. How can I make this program automatically fit a WVGA format in the settings?

Try the following configuration
What is your configuration? (Screenshot or generated .bat file will help).
Tried encoding a sample video, take a look at the configuration used...

Great App!! very fast!!

The Touch Pro 2 fails at playing HTC-HD Profiled videos.
To play smooth videos on the Rhodium, change the resolution what I've found to be the optimal resolution: 640 x 384
I don't know why 800 x 480 doesn't work well...

Yes thats true, rendering video of that size requires better processor, even Touch-HD fails to perform well at that resolution. Thanks for sharing optimal resolution: 640 x 384 for touch-pro, will include that to profiles.xml.
I am looking at optimizing the perfomance at 800x480, its closely related to the codec used for conversion, will include this fix in the next release.

Thaks !!!
Great App

Really liked to use your VC v1.1, trying your V2 now, many thanks for sharing

Very nice app and thanks also to skyler for the TP2 resolution tip.

Nice!! Looking forward for the new version

This is an awesome video converter.
But I'm having the same problem with 720p MKV files (1280 x 720). I'm trying to get them down to VGA size for the Touch Pro (640 x 480). (I'm using the Touch Diamond settings.) The files output are stretched vertically so far, that they're not usable. All other file types and sizes I've tried to convert have worked wonderfully.
So this seems to be an issue with any desired output size when using 720p MKV files.
If anyone has a way to get 720p MKVs to work successfully with this converter, please share how you did it. I hope that perhaps this can be improved upon in a future release.

I'm using a Herman (CDMA Touch Pro) with NRGZ28's 9/20 build of EnergyROM for that device. I have not had any problems viewing videos converted using the Touch Diamond 640 X 480 @ 512kbps settings. (With the exception of trying to convert 720p MKVs as I mentioned in my earlier comment, but that's a different issue.)
Have you who had problems with the Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) tried using a better set of video drviers on your device?

Fixed!!!

Hi Darnell,
I haven't tested this on Touch Pro 2, but have played around with some drivers designed for HTC-HD Blackstone without any significant boost in video playback...

Very interesting that the Touch Pro does not seem to have any problems with output at 640 x 480, but the Touch Pro 2 and Blackstone need to have things at 640 x 384.

Ultimate Touch Screen Sensitivity!!! - 17/03/2010 - 17:42
With this Tweak, Thanks to azharsunny, you can increase the touch sensitivity of your Topaz, and get a few more responsible Sense interface.
THIS WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON BATTERY LIFE!!! - It just changes registry values for Touch pressure. To restore default values, just align again the screen.
You can do it by going to Start > Settings > System > Display > Align Screen.
Grab the cab from here! - The one I posted is the most sensitive one... You can find other cabs, by going to the official thread!

STRANGE Manila 2.5 Fastness - NOT SOLVED - 16/03/2010 - 16:32
Hi all XDA-Devs friends!!
Yesterday, in the late evening I was playing with my lovely TD2 (I LOVE IT! ) when I discovered an unexpected speedness in the Photos and Videos Tab...
Today, after coming back from school, I decided to made a short video, showing off how much fast it is!! It becomes FAST AS THE LEO!!!
What I noticed, is that it's so fast when it's showing videos... so, why Videos make it fast and photos slow down it?
I thought it's because of the shadow that makes photos becoming heavy CPU eaters... So, I think, there would be a way of removing all elements making it slower and get a faster landscape Photos tab view!!
Here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIntL7NdYdE
Then read here what I tried!
Videos are made in VGA (640x480), while photos on 5MPX...
So, just make photos at a lower resolution should solve the problem...
Anyway, I tried to make photos at QVGA resolution 320x240 (lower than videos one ), but anything changed... QVGA Photos were slow as 5MP ones...
That's why I think it's a problem of textures... I just analized Photos tab with Manila CFC GUI, and seen that Videos have only one object/tecture for edges, while Photos have a minimum of 3!! Two for Polarois Corners and one for the shadow...
So I don't know if objects/texture can be removed from manila... What do you think??

Are you joking? I just shown that videos are rendered more smooth than photos...
So I just asked if anybody know ho to remove shoadow from photos polaroids' corners...
Erm.. my take on this is videos are low-rez, but photos are not.
That's why still pics are slower.

Ohhh yes! I'm thinking in making a Thread with Manila fixes, in order to get your Sense 2.5 as fast as possible!
I'm analizing the manila photos tab, every single frame of the tab, but I can't realize why photos are slower than videos... :S
As others have tried to say we assume it's because a video is only 640 x 480 where as pictures are 2592 x 1944 (5mp widescreen off).
This thread needs moving to: Touch Diamond2, Pure Themes and Apps ??
faster? slower? err what does it mean?
The video will run at the speed you recorded?
I like it! Thank you, very much!
LOL...
Open Files Explorer with Show All Files Option. Check in Application Data\HTC\HTC Album you will see all screen shots of videos you have, it is about 10kb/screen shot, so the manila tab will be smooth like Leo one.
With the photos, manila will load one by one with over 1.5Mb/pic, every animate, rotate... the manila tab will load "full" size of pic. It will slow.

You could start by collecting the alternatives to HTC messaging from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630331
Another tip to gain speed and RAM is to disable every manila tab you don't use.
Hopefully people will post here all there own tweeks to speed up sense 2.5 from all the differnt builds on this forum. Collect them all into one place and share them, its tough trawling through all the builds and I'm sure there are some great tweaks and discoverys hidden away in all the differnt build forums that would benifit many people on here.

APP 2.1 Stock Rom - Camera Mod V10 - 4mbps video(better fps) / better pictures!

Hello, there is my modded camera app.
The changelog:
V1
Initial release - 128kpbs audio 24khz
A little camera improvement to record and capture
V2
Audio improvement - fixed 128kbps 44.1khz audio
Improved fps on video - video recording runs almost the time smoothly just a few lags like 1sec when the system have to adjust the white balance(can happens sometime, and depends of your sd card capabilitie)
Faster auto-focus in both functions (camcorder and camera).
A little more post processing on pictures
V3
A little video and picture improving.
Faster image saving.
Touch capture problem stills, trying to manage something to make it works better.
V4
Picture improvement.
Saving takes about 1~2secs.
V5
Picture improvement
Black Layout
V6
Build over .435 stock app ROM
Number of pictures now its right.
V7 - Actual release.
Fix audio bug by reducing audio specs, now is 96kbps and 16khz ( the audio continue stoping before video but is only about 0,3~0,5s, the original camera does it too)
8mpbs video capturing - more smooth videos.
Video capturing time is corrected like on the V6 for pictures.
V8 - built over 435 original file
No audio mods - the sound should work 100% without delays
Same picture quality as v7 improved macro mode
Video bitrate can be modded with build.prop
V9 - Used .16 file
Audio mod to 96kbps and 44.1khz frequency but audio cutted on the last 2 seconds
reduced bps for video, from 6mbps to 3,5mbps, gives me better fps, on good/medium light conditions always 24fps
dont use this with build.prop modifications it wont change nothing
V10 (image mod as v8 and new video mods)
Following V9 specs but:
Increased bps from 3.5mbps to 4mbps = less pixelization and same improvement in general fps (max / min / avg)
audio original but with 96kbps/16khz, take about 5 movies and the audio got sync!
Tips.
Defrag your SD card it can make all the system works better
Macro Mode: Use macro mode if the image that you´re capturing is below 10cm else use normal mode.
Tests.
Daylight capture

I installed Vignette to make a comparative configuration 8mpx and superfine!

Now I´m starting to think that the original app its getting closer or even better to Vignette! the macro mode is the only mode that vignette remains superior but depends if the software focus correclty the object, but in other modes and distances it seems to be very good, and having a file 2mb smaller and don´t have to wait more than 3 seconds to take the next picture and after that I can connect my usb cable to open my pics on pc, to me, there is no reason to keep with vignette if you only wants to take picture and not use filters =), but you decide!
Instructions (new steps 2)
Using Root Manager copy the SemcCameraApplication.apk to /system/app overwriting the original one.
Long press on the overwrited app and select Permissions, and make sure that these options are checked: the whole first column and the first from the second.

Step 2 only for V8!!!
To record with max bitrate you need to add these line on build.prop of your phone
ATENTION - IF YOUR CAMCORDER START CRASHING WHEN RECORDING TRY LOW DOWN THE BPS OF VIDEOS LIKE 8000000=8mbps to 6000000=6mbps, BECAUSE YOUR SD CARD CAN´T HANDLE THIS BPS
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.bps=6000000,16000000

ro.media.enc.vid.mp4.bps=6000000,16000000
ro.media.enc.vid.mp4.fps=21,24
Original LordKitsuna build.prop modification
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.bps = 800000000,800000000
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.fps = 18,30
ro.media.enc.vid.h263.bps = 800000000,800000000

ro.media.enc.vid.mp4.bps = 800000000,800000000
ro.media.enc.vid.mp4.fps = 18,30
*thanks to LordKitsuna !
Don´t know how to edit build.prop, you must open it on a text editor and modify.
Reboot and be happy!
Why 864x480 i thought X10 Resolution is 854x840
I'm still looking inside.
Ive got a better camrecording.
Seems that 128kbps is the limit to audio.
Soon I release a xrecovery v2 version
Hope you enjoy.

Sry, cant see any improve in photo samples...does the 100% improve something??? The image size before and after is almost the same...
Hi,
Is not for 2.2 users, maybe in a close future when I finish it I start to play with 2.2.
I am still modding. The picture jpeg compression was changed, but I changed a little more things to come in v2!
Thanks for your feedback

cant wait Im taking photos all the time more than taking videos...
PS:My thought is, that increase of jpeg compression HAVE to increase size (MB) of the photos, this is my experience from other phones (samsung i8510, i8910, SE Vivaz)...I made photos before and after the change and the size was +-the same 30kB difference...
Any improvements in the 720p recording area? Maybe you could try fiddling with it to see if we can get a better video quality with better fps as well?
I think that quality is pretty decent...fps is the problem...

No problem, I am start to looking into these configurations to see how can we make it better!
I found the sizes configuration and limits and I will increase them, I will too decrease jpeg compression, we can have a better image.
I am posting too a video source from a test with my current camera app, while I am testing.

Looking at the videos that I posted, you will see, after a camera movimentation the images get stable very fast! and the autofocus it´s working a little better (changed the search time to take less time between focusing)
there is low fps just a few moments, comparing with some old videos I this its getting better
I will work now and when I back, I will made some adjustments in the cam app to fix some issues I was looking like, have to double press camera buttom to start video, some crashs, incorrect time left calculation.
the quality of the image we can get better with a little more bps but I´m looking for this because seems to be limited by micro sd card.

No problem, I am start to looking into these configurations to see how can we make it better!
I found the sizes configuration and limits and I will increase them, I will too decrease jpeg compression, we can have a better image.
I am posting too a video source from a test with my current camera app, while I am testing.

really appreciate your work...just suggestion please compare pictures (different compression) in good light conditional as the low light really messes pictures and degrades your improvements...
...please could you look into one function in camera it calls touch capture...it never focuses on near object but to background when the near object isn't in center of camera sight...Im sure you know what I mean...
Thanks!
But it's possible to put 128 kbps & 44.1 KHz in the audio quality?

Hmm I see some good job here Just a question, can You modify camera app to bring LED flash shortcut to the main screen? Going through advanced options just to enable flash is real pain.
Also tried touch capture, doesn't work for objects at ~10cm.

Better camera ULTIMATE VERSION(MOD)(480X320 video reording)(updated 9/10)

UlTIMATE update(go to 2nd post if you guy wan to know what had be edited),have fun
I'm new to wildfire section and here is the first thread and first mod that i created,
I hope i will make the best for you guy
Before you throw your wildfire into your rubbish,you should read this
NOT working on sense rom,sry dude
(i had the permission to merge the scipt inside melvingchng's recent post)
video sample:
the video record without sound,because i have muted it(privacy hehe)
video taken in Malaysia by me,comment the scenery if you are intrested
very simple to install and can done by your grandma and young children,
go to 2nd post if you want to change sound quality or experimental VGA recording
Method to install(JUST FLASH IT WITH CLOCKWORKMOD),thanks for darkstep making it flashable in CWM3,below are the detail steps:
download the second attachments(ultimate camera 4 CWM)
launch ROM manager
flash clockworkmod recovery(if you flash it recently,ignore this step)
reboot into recovery
choose install zip from sd card
exit and reboot,you are done
press thanks and enjoy!!!!if you dont mind
Final Step:
View it in your PC and use a ear phone to feel the change!!!!!
I'm here also explain wat i edited to the scipt
From the original script that inside melvinchng,it only uncompress the image quality and become more viewable in text,However,the video recording are very lag and make it useless,many people unistall it become of the video quality
And i had edited the scipt and make it HVGA recording
Here is what i edited
Red highlighted-word show second edited value
Hight quality
format:3gp(i think it is no different between mv4)
bitRate=12000000
width=480
height=320
frameRate=15(around 15 fps,very depending on light intensity)
Audio codec=aac
sampleRate="32000(to reduce noise)
audio bitrate:96kbps to 160kbps!
inside the camera should hv 4 profile:

The 'high' profile record video at HVGA for 15fps,
The 'low' profile record video at QVGA for 20fps
If you get the messedge about 'sorry,the video cannot be played'.Do not be afraid,just press back,and try to enter the video a few times,i'm sure you will get it will work.
In my observation,highier light intensity will highier the frame per second
If someone discovered VGA recording,please share it here,thanks
give up trying VGA resolution

Download Lgcamera in market
press menu and tap setting
change to your desire sound quality and resolution(changing resolution are not recommended,change the video codec to h264 when you are looking for highier resolution)
press thanks and enjoy(and melvinchng too)!!!!if you dont mind
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Change log:
30.7.2011:the 1st HVGA recording released
14.8.2011:Sound quality are highier in boh high and low quality,recording in high quality will get the maximum sound quality.
Bitrate from 12kbps edited to 12.5kbps(slightly increase,maximum bitrate is 17kbps,but not stable enought)
04.9.2011:fixed the error about (sorry,this video cannot be played)
The recent version of the camera keep stuck while playing,
now you have very smooth playing after video capture.
11.9.2011:enchanced the sound quality again,which is audio bitrate(form 96kbps to 160kbps).That is almost twice!!
Title name from "better camera 2nd generation" to "better camera ultimate version"
9.10.2011:Released CWM zip(take me couple of time to learnt making flashable zip)
The low profile are now edited exactly same with high profile,only the resolution are different.
The 'high' profile record video at HVGA for 15fps,
The 'low' profile record video at QVGA for 20fps.
The reason why i do this because i realise lower resolution will highier fps.
The audio sampling rate from 44.1khz reduce to 32khz to reduce noise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q & A section:
Q:What is meant by ultimate version?
A:Ultimate version stand for the last update made by me,because i have done well and maximum the video recording performance.There is no any way to increase the performance anymore.
Q;Do VGA resolution are working currently?
A:yes it does,but only 1~3fps in lgcamera
Q:Any way to increase the fps of VGA video recording?
A:Unfortunately,there is no way to increase the fps.
Android require h264 to encorde the video at VGA or higher resolution.
h264 require graphic accelerater to work well.
WILDFIRE did't have graphic accelerater
Q:why dont make it to VGA or highier resolution?
A:because the codec H263 only support up to HVGA resolution in wildfire
Q:why HTC did't give the best to wildfire?
A:i'm asking this question too
Q:when is the better camera 3rd generation release?
A:when someone found a way to make VGA recording,i will be gratefull to the people who cound make this
Here is what i edited
width=480(comfirm)
Erm, I have a problem.
When I try to copy the media_profiles file with root explorer, even when mounting r/w, i always get the "not enough space" error. I am S-ON.
When trying to flash with 2.5.0.wahtever CWM it looks like it flashed ok, but after reboot the file looks like the unchanged original
When flashing with 3.0.0.6 (From rom manager) it says that it cannot flash the zip.
Any ideeas, or am I just an idiot?
did u try with adb?
What does this app do?
It allows to change the resolution and the pixels density of the screen to pre-defined settings according to standard screen aspect ratios
Why is this useful?
- Watching Video on an external monitor/tv using the hdmi output will usually mirror the screen content without correcting for aspect ratio, by setting the correct resolution and pixel density of the screen to match the monitor/tv allows to fill the entire external screen and avoid the side black bars.
- Playing games on an external monitor/tv: normally, the device will render the games to the full resolution available on the device's screen. On the case of the Nexus 10, games will be rendered to its huge resolution of 2560x1600 and then it will be scaled down to the monitor/tv screen resolution wasting GPU prepossessing power and resulting on more heat and power consumption during gaming. By reducing the screen resolution to match the external monitor/tv less processing power is needed to render the game at the lower monitor/tv's resolution, many games will even use the extra processing power available for more effects or more frames per second (depending on the game, no established by this app).
- Simulate other screen resolutions and pixel density for android developers to test their applications on the physical device and observe how their application will look on other devices.
Available options:
-Manual Settings: Allows to manually select the desired resolution and pixel density according to pre-defined standard aspect ratios.
-Auto Detection: Will run in the background and will detect HDMI connections and disconnections. On a HDMI connection detected, a notification will be presented to apply the detected screen resolution and pixel density appropriate for your screen. On a HDMI disconnection, the notification will allow to return to the device's default settings.
Reboot Mode: New Soft Reboot will only reboot the graphical interface not the entire system (Fast). Normal Full Reboot (safest, use if you find interface issues with the Soft Reboot).
Screen Size: Define your screen size (affects dpi calculation). This setting comes pre-defined for the nexus 10, but you should change it to match your screen size on other devices.
HDMI Resolution Preset: Define your preferred output resolution instead of using the Auto-Detection option .
New Default Settings: The default settings will now reset the dpi value to the factory configuration. It appears that the nexus 10 comes from factory with a dpi setup to 320 instead of 300. The new reset feature should also work for other devices.
Auto DPI Selection: No more guessing work, it will select the appropriate dpi value for the selected resolution and the screen size defined on the settings.
Screen OFF feature: Allows you turn your device's screen off while keeping the output to the hdmi to reduce the power usage. To turn the screen back ON just press the power button twice or simply disconnect the hdmi.
Touchless Profile: It applies the profile automatically upon hdmi connection without user interaction.
- The profile can either auto detect the TV resolution or apply the preset resolution
- If selected, it will turn the screen off automatically when the hdmi is in use.
- On hdmi disconnection, the screen settings will automatically return to default.
What is New
New Recovery Feature: Recovers the default screen setting after an user specified number of power/charger connections. Will restore the device if the user applied a configuration not supported by the device.
To trigger the recovery feature, plug and unplug the power/charger to the device allowing ~1s between plug/unplug as many times as defined on the settings menu, default is 3 times.
v1.27:
- New Recovery Feature to restore default setting upon cycling the power connection 3 times at ~1s between connections.
- Fixed interface issues on Nexus 7 2013.
- Support for small screens up to 3.5"
- New first time setup to ensure the user select the appropriate screen size of their devices.
- Added the screen size to the current settings display.
v1.26: Improved the Preset Resolution Input dialog to avoid incorrect inputs.
v1.25: - Improved support for devices that are naturally oriented in portrait mode (i.e. nexus 7, cellphones, etc).
- Added more resolutions, specially to support smaller devices and cellphones.
- Added "Touchless Profile" option.
v1.24: - fixed a crash issue happening on devices that did not have BusyBox installed. if you don't have busybox installed, the app will now prompt you to install it.
- fixed the Auto-Brightness feature that was awakening the screen for some devices on ambient light changes.
- Added Screen Turn OFF request for support on devices where screen turn off is not yet supported.
v1.23:
-Improved screen OFF detection mode to support more devices. Allows you turn your device's screen off while keeping the output to the hdmi to reduce the power usage
v1.22:
-Screen OFF feature.
v1.21:
-Adjusted App's interface for portrait and landscape mode, and smaller screens.
-Back compatibility with JB 4.2
-Added preset button on main application
v1.2:
- Auto DPI Selection.
- Reboot Mode Selection.
- Screen Size Selection.
- HDMI resolution Preset option.
v1.01: Code cleaning
v1.0: Initial Release
Why a reboot is needed to apply the new screen settings?
- For now the safest way to restore the entire Interface with the new resolution and pixel density is to reboot the system. The new Soft Reboot should reduce considerably the time required to reset the interface.
MOD EDIT: Link to Google Play Removed due to XDA advertising paid app/theme policy. OP can check for PM from me.
This sounds like an interesting app!
Gonna try it out, but I have a few questions, does the resolution change happen only when connected to a HDMI output? Are there any benefits to having a lower res for say regular daily use of the tablet, say like not hogging the gpu or lowering the gpu temperature?
Also, according to Xda rules you shouldn't advertise paid apps here, you either have to make a free trial or this post will get removed, but I would love to keep the thread alive...
s1m4an,
I did not know about the paid app rules for posting at this forum; however, I am planning to release a trial or beta version specially to bring support to other devices.
You can change the resolution at any moment (without HDMI connected) by opening the app and selecting the desired resolution and pixel density and then apply the changes.
The HDMI detection just allows you to change the settings to match the detected external screen automatically without having to worry about what resolution and density you should select.
Lowering the resolution will definitely reduce the GPU utilization and GPU power consumption (heat generated) especially at graphic intensive apps like games, even at 1080p the GPU needs to render half the amount of pixels than the default resolution. I have tested this with games and I generally gain frames per second or I am able to increase the detail level of the game effects. In normal usage, GPU utilization will also be reduced but I will imagine that non graphic intensive applications will not give you such drastic difference, probably watching movies will.
Another benefit is that it allows you to test how applications will look on other devices, if you are a developer.
Thanks for the comment,
Yes i would be great if there was a trial version or something like that.. It sounds interesting..
Hi forbitel, I bought your app and I like it so far. Works fine with stock 4.3 and it's a very easy way to have a true full screen 16:9 trough HDMI. Shame to Google for giving a stupid 16:10 aspect ratio to our HDTVs.
I have better results with 16:9 2560x1400 with my tv
Setting 1920x1080 creates a weird interface in the tablet. Looks like a old phone launcher...
What I would like to see in a future update is to set a favourite resolution when HDMI is detected so we don't have to go to the app every time we want to change it.
Good work!
Yes I saw the update. Thank you!
I'll try in the next hours.
But now I have a problem. I use the keyboard app "Swiftkey Tablet" and even after several reboots, going to default resolution and reinstalling the app, it's size is like 3 times the normal. It's like the app thinks I'm still in 1920x1080 and not in the default 2560x1600. And I can't use it...
The stock keyboard works fine.
I'll post a screenshot later!
Edit:
Maybe reinstalling the app was not the solution (it may keep settings in SDmemory). I'll try to erase app data and reinstall.
Edit 2: Solved.
But I really want to thank you for this app. Now I can use Nexus 10 as decent multimedia player with my TV.
New problem: sometimes I have to apply and reboot up to 3 times to get the desired resolution. I have to test more...
What specific resolution and density are you trying to set? is it through the main application window or through the hdmi notification?
I see you updated the app again.
First try and success, resolution changed fine.
I'll try more.
With this latest update everything works great. 1 reboot needed to change resolution and its very easy to have a preset one.
Sounds like a really useful app. Unfortunately I don't really want to pay for until I know it works for me. I will probably pay once the app matures after a few updates.
Well, the updates are coming non stop. It works perfectly fine now and the latest update brought a great new feature: Screen off with hdmi out active.
With this app we can have finally a serious media player with the nexus 10.
Congrats to the developer.
mrruin,
I have tested few popular keyboards from the market and found the following:
- Google Keyboard: Adjust the best out all I have tested, it consistently adjust with changes of screen resolution.
- SlideIT: Somewhat adjusting to the screen resolution changes, works better than Swype and SwiftKey.
- Swype: do not dynamically adjust to screen changes, some resolutions works but wont adjust to the screen on 1080p.
- SwiftKey: do not dynamically adjust to screen changes, some resolutions works but wont adjust to the screen on 1080p.
I would recommend you use Google Keyboard when changing the resolution of the device, until these keyboards are fixed for resolution changes.
Where can I get that wallpaper?? That looks really cool.
So when are you going to release the trial betsa version like you said you would ? It has been almost 2 months
Nexus 5 slimport HDMI
Has anyone had any luck changing the HDMI resolution?
On a Nexus 5 or any other device?
I have tried all combination of settings i can think of but it either boot loops or resolution stays on 1080p.
Im guessing when it boot loops with the cable plugged in its trying to output 720p but doesn't like it much.
I'd like to provide some sort of log if would be useful.
I will test it soon and will get back to you.
Please keep tuned.
Tanix TX3 Mini TV Box based on the new Amlogic S905W
So, there is a new SoC about to heat the markets. Amlogic is trying to beat the RK3229 (low cost processor) and attacks with the S905W.
Amlogic S905W is almost same as S905X but they removed something to decrease its price but without affect too much to the normal users. This case, they removed the [email protected] and it works up to [email protected] For streamers this feature is not a big problem and they can get a powerful box under lower price.
Oh, and it supports Android 7.1.1
First TV Box featuring S905W is the Tanix TX3 Mini. Here some pictures:
You can read full specifications about S905W and TX3 Mini at the TANIX website
No price yet, but, it should be cheaper than those S905X
Looks interesting, saw it on geekbuying on preorder for $34
When the mecool m8s pro plus is only $4 more, i dont know why people would buy this one?
mecool m8s pro plus has widevine and hdcp, no other box under $70 dollars has that.
I bought this device and make an unboxing video. It has HDMI-CEC feature and it is much cooler than S912 based TV Boxes. If your expectations are not too high, S905W would be a good and cool solution. Here is the unboxing video:
This device has a maximum video output resolution of 720p. It can decode a 1080p video, but it will make it look like a 720p.
I have one. The UI was rendered @ 720p to avoid performance issues, but it does not downscale FHD videos to HD, that's not true. Local videos @ 1080p will play at 1080p, same for 4k but only if they're at a max of 30fps.
In recent updates they changed because it caused issues with YouTube and other streaming apps. The streaming apps that detected the UI @ 720p, rendered at a max of 720p, so, after some complaints, they removed that restriction.
The box comes pretty much uncluttered, with only a pre-installed version of Kodi, a working Play Store and not much else besides stock apps. It's pre-rooted, SELinux in permissive, which seems to be the norm on these cheap boxes.
The worst thing is overheating. It easily goes up to 80+ Celsius, so i changed CPU management settings in the Governor, limited max clock to 1Ghz and deactivated one of the cores (using KAM). Performance still good and temp is around 65 now. Unfortunately, one of the USB's is already fried after just 1 week, i suspect the overheating issue.
If you play the attached video on your PC connected to a 1080p monitor, you'll see that the field "1080" has a 1-pixel-precise pattern, but if you play it with this crappy box on the same monitor that field is made of thicker lines (2 pixel width). To be honest, i admit I didn't try the latest firmware, but i doubt that they changed anything in that respect. Most people can't see the difference, or they don't want to see, between a 1080 and a 720 video. But the difference is quite noticeable if you want to us the box for web browsing sitting close to the monitor.
I suspect this is also true for the x96 mini - UI renders in 720p but sometimes I think I've seen my streams go up to 1080p.... I need to find that 1080p test image and get it on the x96...
Is this zip file flashable within the box itself? I just can't work with the flash tool and that stupid method to plug usb at the same time as power plug, tried a million times with the img files and just couldn't update.
I just received this item from [email protected], tested with videoprojector 1080P and youtube, it looks fine (I'm not a video maniac, I just need it to see netflix and co., no 4K...) and I bought an Alfawise S95 that should be exatly the same (maybe without optical out and smaller, that make me afraid abaout temperature, Tanix is VERY hot!).
I have 3 questions:
1-I can't find the root settings, do I need to install supersu?
2-Actually I NEED magisk systmless root, not a classic root, due to 2 streaming apps that doesn't works with classic root (and home banking too) is there a way to remove the root and patch the boot.img, maybe the one from the new beta firmware?
3-I can turn root OFF and application won't use/see it?
Thank you!
does it Support 5.1 Surround Sound Output?
becouse has spdif output...but at specs doesnt say anything...but tanix tx3 max supports..and i cant understand the differences between tanix tx3 mini and tanix tx3 max
Alfawise S95 mounts TX3 Mini motherboard, then, size and connectors are same.
Probably your firmware is not updated yet. You can upgrade to this version (I recommend you OPTION A):
BETA Firmware Available for testing 20171220
_______________________________________
Assuming 20171107 is the latest stable version available, these are the changes:
Root ON/OFF menu option added at Settings
New Auto Frame-Rate menu option added at Settings
Video layer improvement (fixed a 720p downscale bug)
Mouse pointer resized
Corrections from a new Amlogic's SDK
Improved WiFi throughput
Some other video improvements
Youtube 1080p setting has been fixed with 20171107
HOW TO UPDATE:
OPTION A) Upgrade from TF card or USB memory by using "Update" APP
1. Copy the .ZIP file to your TF Card.
2. Insert the card in the TX3 Mini.
3. Open "Update" APP (already preinstalled).
4. Press "Select" button and choose the .ZIP file
5. Press "Update" button and wait. The box will reboot and upgrade.
- If something goes wrong, try again.
You can get the .ZIP file here: - DOWNLOAD ZIP BETA FIRMWARE -
OPTION B) Flash from computer by USB port using "Burning Tool" software
1. Download the IMG file.
2. Follow this tutorial. It is same process for this model.
- If something goes wrong, try again or choose "Force Erase" option.
You can get the .IMG file here: - DOWNLOAD IMG BETA FIRMWARE -
You will find the Root ON/OFF switch at: Settings > Common > More Settings > Superuser
You can have a try :good:
Try the "OPTION A" from my previous post. You can upgrade by TF/USB Memory and "UPDATE" APP included in your box.
That did the trick, updated flawlessly, thank you! Finally i can have my box updated, and YouTube in FHD runs smoothly. TV Streaming in FHD also runs smoothly but HW decoder needs to be selected in MX Player options. And no, the box does not downscale FHD because the difference is very very noticeable between HD and FHD on both scenarios.
My broblem is:is it a systemlessroot, can i use magisk to hide the root? Here in italy 90% of pay streaming services won't works with common root, only hiding it with magisk... Well, actually if turning root off doesn't reset the device, maybe I can switch it on or off when I need to use apps that refuse to works with root... Could it work?
Last question:firmwares are interchangeable with alphawise s95 (exactly same specification)
I have no brightness settings after last update.
