Best rom to date? - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

I'm new to the Advantage-modding community, so I'm kind of lost when it comes to the vast selection of roms out there.
I just ordered an HTC Advantage x7501, and am [excitedly] waiting on it's arrival. The seller states it has Michy's WM6.1 WWE 1.56Diamond Edition flashed on it already.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408300
So I'm wondering, what's the latest and greatest rom available for the Advantage as of April 2009? The Athena Project 4.0 [Link] looks nice, but I'm not sure.
I appreciate your help very much!
*Edit: I already know which is the newest rom. I'm simply wondering in what ways do the top roms [Namely Athena Project roms and Michy roms] outweight each other.

Welcome to the forum
The athena AP 4.0 rom is getting a bit old now and AP 5.0 never got past beta stage, BUT to swap to SPL 3.5 you have to flash with AP 4.0 first, HAVE TO!!! most of Michy's roms are on SPL 3.5 so when you get your x7501 hard press the camera key and press the reset hole to see what SPL it is. He does do some SPL 1.2 stuff so tread carefull. Please dont try to flash a rom with the wrong SPL, it causes all sorts of troubles. You cant go wrong with one of Michy's roms. 1.88 is an XP style, 4.1 is a vista style, 6.1 is a manilla touch style rom, and now he is moving on to WM 6.5, his beta 4 is quite usable. It is mainly down to taste these days. most of the bugs are beta tested out, so they are better than stock roms these days. WM 6.5 is still beta so expect bugs and hangs. While you are waiting why not read the WiKi to get to know it better.
Regards
Jay

Thanks for your reply. I recieved the Athena not long ago. I found out that it has the 1.2 SPL.
"ATHE100

ATHE100
SPL-v1.20.Olipro"
Can you perhaps link me to a thread that describes in detail how to flash different roms/SPL's? I'm interested in that 6.1 Manilla rom, but I'm at a loss of how to do it. I've been browsing around that Wiki and can't really find a guide to flashing roms. First of all I have to figure out how to get rid of the rom that's currently on it.

But I would suggest experimenting with loading SPL1.2 roms first to get some confidence if you haven't flashed before.
Michy's roms from here are the most recent and fully featured http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518
Good luck

That was just what I needed, thanks a million. It was much easier than I thought it'd be.

Do you mean a uspl for the neon? or roms?
Yeah I've searched for days (real fun wading through 100's of pages about NIKI's that don't apply to us NEON owners) trying to find updates (my biggest issue is bluetooth not working right with my AT&T EP-5632 station that my WM6 S710 & WM5 2125 worked with perfectly) or even cooked roms (found SETH´s NEON V3 FINAL & V3 LIGHTER but not tried it yet partially because I need to verify if it is even newer than my stock rom or not) for my NEON300 but unfortunately it is a nightmare because there are so many different Touch Duals (mostly NIKI) and no section or even sticky on XDA dedicated for NEON's, just NIKI..
Welp off to do some more searchin & saving pages in my favorites, wish me luck. lol

Fuze ROM vs Touch Pro ROM?

Hi,
I just bought an ATT Fuze and want to "clean it up" by installing a clean ROM on it.
I've done a lot of search here but there is SO MUCH information that in the end i'm still not clear about what's the latest and what's outdated.
So i'm asking a couple of questions. Answers or redirections will be much appreciated.
- If I want to install a custom ROM, should I pick a Fuze ROM or a Touch Pro ROM? (I am not using the phone in the US so I don't need to stick to ATT ROMs). Is one ROM better than the other by nature?
- Is there a "ROM-Status Wiki" or somewhere where one can go and check what are the latest FUZE/TPro ROMs available and what are the features in them? Or is going through all the threads the only way? What if I get a ROM and its not the latest? because there are so many threads out there.
thanks

Im assuming that you are referring to Official (non cooked Roms)
The latest English Touch Pro Rom is 5.05 which can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478657
The Touch Pro Rom is better because it has better GPS signal and no ATT crap and likely to run faster.
You can also get the latest Radio Rom which is 1.12.25.19
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487994
The only you need to do is get the cab that convert the ATT Fuze hardware keyboard when running Touch Pro Rom which can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=474192
Before you do all this you need to Run HardSPL on the Fuze which can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150
This is a latest ATT Fuze 5.08 "Test Rom" so you dont need to install the keyboard fix cab

Here is some latest official Touch Pro ROM Asian Versions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494603
Anyway read through and make an informed decision for yourself. Everything else I did not list are cooked ROMs which I personally not a big fan of. I like the official ROMS and make the customizations myself.
Thank you both of you. Between your two replies, you've answered exactly what I was asking for.
Much appreciated. Thanks again!
Rom Location?
I bought my FUZE in the US. But I am using it in Asia.
If I slash it with an English Asian TPro Rom, what difference does it make VS a non Asian ROM?
nothing really same old stuff. you just have to set your regions and time dislay and calendar display format. and of course change the keyboard layout to accomodate TP ROm on Fuze. You better off using the Asian Rom if you are using in Asia cause the Radio Rom should work better.
once again, thank you.
Thanks to your answers, I am getting more familiar with Raphael and the ROMs and trying out stuff.
I also like to install Stock (shipped) ROMs and then make my own customizations. So I have flashed the WWE Asia rom and its working very well.
But now I want to install the new Rhodium TF3D 2. It is recommended for OS builds 21000 or higher. However the latest shipped ROMs are less than 21000.
So now my question is, how can I upgrade my OS build to 21000 without installing a cooked ROM? I know the answer is probably "no you can't" so my real question is, "being a person who likes to stay as close to a Stock Rom without going into cooked roms, what the best bet to achieve this?"
Thanks again in advance.
dont know of a solution

I'll give it a try. thanks!
How do i check the rom build, is the same as the rom version?? sorry fo the noob question
Settings -> System -> About
Should read something similar to this:
CE OS 5.2.21051 (Build 21051.1.6.4)
WinMO 6.1 = 5.2
ROM/SYS = 21051
AKU - 1.6.4
You can obtain additional info from Device Information as well.

another "what is the best rom post

I am using dcd 3.6.2. I use it for internet sharing and gps, as well as medical programs. lately it has become unstable. I am looking to upgrade the rom. any suggestions?
Go to ppc-ktchen.org and make your own. WM6.5 has already been released.
I don't think DCD ever made a 3.6.x series ROM...
There are quite a few new ROMs here on the Titan upgrading page to choose from. Some are based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and some are 6.5. Take your pic and flash the ones that look interesting. There isn't really a "best" for everyone, so I'd recommend spending a day or two with a few variations and choosing the one you like the most.
dcd 4.1.2 very stable

Been using this one for a while now. Very nice.
i just flashed dcd 3.2.6 to my phone not long ago since most people seemed to advise using that version over 3.3.4. i can't say i'm unhappy... seems quite a bit better than the old dcd 2.1.6(beta) rom that i stuck with for almost a year.
are there any release or change notes accompanying the dcd 4.1.2 release? i can't find anything here on xda-dev regarding this version.
short of that, can someone summarize what major updates were made between 3.2.6 and 4.1.2?
thanks!

I agree Turtl3sh3ll. Nothing is better then cooking up your own rom to suite your needs. This is probably your best route for updating your device.
Here is a link

This is a direct link to the BuildOS program to cook up your own rom.
Hope this helps.

Which ROM should I go with?

Hey all!
So I've decided that I don't like the instability of my HD2 anymore, it's gotten to be quite buggy at times so I was thinking that a ROM flash would do the trick, so that I can start over again. I need to learn how to do it again, though, it's been a while for me.
The problem is, there's TONS of ROMs out there that I don't know what to do or which one to choose! There's just so many that I can't decide.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I value speed, functionality, productivity, messaging features and most of all, stability. Would anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for your time, XDA!
to flash a custom ROM, yoiu will first need to download HSPL (the latest is version 3). if you search the forums, you will find the main thread. as i have a t8585, i can use any version of HSPL, but you should check on the main thread which one is compatible with your handset (tmous only works with 1 version). after installing HSPL, you can then choose your custom ROM. i think the latest version is HSPL 2.08
as you said, there are hundreds of custom ROMS. on the forums somewhere there was a comparison table of all the available ROMS, but it was out of date and incomplete the last time i looked a few months ago. personally, i would reccommend CleanEX ROMs as they are very fast and stable. there were 3 to choose from, but i believe one of the ROM developers has now retired from it, so that leaves 2 that will be kept up to date. personally, ive been using the DsE version (i have version 3.5). these are updated frequently to a point where i only update to major releases (version 2 to version 3 for example) and only update to a .x version if i am experiencing a problem that the new version fixes (hence being on 3.5 currently). the ROM has some things left out, so you may need to download some CABs to get some of the apps (i think there are about 3 apps left out, one of which is Microsoft MyPhone). you can still apply registry tweaks, but be careful if using cabbed versions (ive had a few that stop sense from loading) programs like bsb tweaks work as well.
depending on what stock ROM you have, you may also need to update the radio rom before installing the custom ROM. the WWE version of generic ROMS uses very outdated radio ROMs. CleanEX ROMs require radio 2.08 or higher. there are several versions to choose from, but 2.12 is the latest, 2.11 seems to be the most stable, and 2.10 gives the better battery life. ive personally been using 2.11, as 2.12 caused touch screen issues, but that may be because the radio was from a non WWE ROM
the only other thing you will come accross is weather to use WM 6.5 or 6.5.5. WM 6.5 is what the WWE ROMs use, which has the start menu at the top. WM 6.5.5 has the start menu at the bottom, but is more finger friendly with slightly larger buttons. performance wise, they seem to be the same. i have tried out both and WM 6.5.5 takes some getting used to, but is easier to use
I use ChuckyROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787. It works pretty well and have had no problems with it.
THANKS for the advice, Matt. I've been looking for this!!
artemis, looks like stock, without the problems, only ROM ive used so far that I haven't had problems with, loved energy, but wont work with my phone, same with miri, only issue is the text system, same as stock rom, loads quicker, but still bit funny
there is no perfect rom, but let's say this:
eye candy: dinik & miri (WWE)
practical and smooth: chuckyrom gtx (WWE)
stable and with some nice features: Duttys crème de la crème (MULTILANG)
edit: maybe it's best to upgrade your radio BEFORE flashing a rom

i was about to add that to my post! some roms require newer radio versions, its best to check on the rom thread for requirements and install instructions. at the end of the day, rom choice is personal, ive tried duttys holy grail, but found it to be too unstable, ive tried energy, but had issues with sense lagging. cleanex worked best for me, but im sure others will say the same about cleanex as what i have said about other roms. generally, if its your first custom rom and you are a bit unsure about it, look for a close to stock rom, which keeps it simple. also look for names of experienced developers. all roms will have their own thread, with the features, whats been added, whats been removed, requirements, install instructions and faq, plus users will often rate/review the rom and post up problems and solutions. if you PM me, i can try and hunt down the comparison guide i downloaded (i havent been able to find the thread on xda ) and i can send it to you, this may help you see what some roms offer

Hey Koolxx, as far as I know: Dutty's ROMs are by far the closest to stock!
Its a very stable and sleek ROM with 100% Stock Philosophy. I use it since I own my HD2, it's just great. And if ecessary a very good base for further modification, skins & themes.
The last COM2 Version (Stock was COM2) is V18 and looks absolutely like stock when the RSS Reader is removed. All newer Versions are COM3 with a different Button Layout.
If you wanna check it out, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610634

hi, Myrixamophit.. thanks for replying. i got a problem that maybe you can help me with. the reason i need a custom ROM is cuz my locked TMOUS HD2 produces static on every call. a moderator and cool guy named, T-Macgnolia, suggests i get a custom ROM and Radio with it. the problem with ROMS from Dutty is that theyre based on 3.14. and T-Macgnolia said that stock ROMs based on 3.14 ROMs are very dependant of what radio version I use. They need a 2.15.50.14 or 2.14.50.02 radio.
if I want to use a lower radio version, I'll need a custom ROM. but they may still give problems since most recent custom ROMs are based on 3.14 stock ROMs. i still need a lower version radio to eliminate static from calls.
please let me know what you suggest.. thanks, man.
Oh in that case I suggest you flash HSPL and then flash a stock ROM prior to 3.14. You'll find it on XDA or HTC website. Then you can flash the radio of your choice. But then be warned you wont be able to get access to the 1024 mb of RAM that the T-MO HD2 has.

NRG makes a "Reference" ROM that has the latest OS, but no NRG add-ons.

I would have to disagree, I think the "reference" ROM looks almost exactly like the Stock ROM. Are you referring to the "Energy" ROM, which is right above the "Reference" one?
You're partially right, I thought of Energy ROM. But still, Reference has changed icons, wallpapers and things like that. Artemis ROM except of having additional soft added and being tweaked is 100% stock.
I agree completely with Raven. those two roms he has listed are built with stock philosophy. I personally use Dutty v18 on my HD2. its the best he's built. Energy Reference is also a good rom, but heavily customized apart from icons in Sense. Folder icons in Start Menu are also changed. You don't even get as much free ram and internal phone memory with Energy, as much as you get with Dutty. NRG cooks in quite a few applications even in Reference roms which you might not end up using ever. That said, NRG is a great chef, make no mistake.

Hey koolxx just wanted to say thanks for the mention, but like Icsaid before I am not a moderated. Although it might would be cool to be a moderator, but moderator I am not.
Also at koolxx and anand12 you can not flash a official or custom ROM that is older than a 2.07 ROM to a TMOUS HD2, maybe a 2.05 ROM. But I would only flash a 2.07 ROM tovbe safe. Yes if you found a custom ROM of a later version that did not haveca radio included you could flash it to a TMOUS but it would run like crap as like anand12 said you would not be able to use all of the 527MB of RAM the TMOUS has (notice I said RAM not ROM anand12 ). But if the ROM has a radio with it, a ROM of a version older than what I mentioned is guaranteed to brick a TMOUS..
edit: nevermind
