getting extra battery life - Touch Pro CDMA

so i was looking on the wiki and saw a registry tweak to get more battery life. so i was in the registry and changed them all but one folder is not in my registery i changed the rest but the one in bold. will i still get extra battery life? also co8uld i add that folder and put that change in there?
Increase Battery Life
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms] “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1 Change to “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms] “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1 Change
to “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms] “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1 Change to “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms] “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1 Change to “DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

No don't bother add any reg entries, if its not there then it isn't being used. So no you won't gain any more battery life by adding a reg entry then disabling it.
I believe Irsir1 is an Infrared sensor. since the device doesn't have one, thats why you don't see the reg for it.

I have read about a few other options to increase battery life:
1. Turn off your data if you are not using it.
2. If you must have data on (Push E-mail), there is a setting that can be changed via Advanced Configuration. Go to Menu->More Settings->Connections. In there, select "Disconnect" and put 1 minute as the time. This will force data to shut down after syncing with the Outlook server.
3. Turn off "Receive all Incoming Beams"

1 did this one
2 did this one and this will not effect my apps from connecting to them or people calling me?
3 did this one. what will happen when a beam is sent to me since i have it turned off?

Just for giggles.. What kind of battery life are you getting right now? Average usage, charge time, charge hold time during the average usage, etc?

i think like 7 hours but im at a place where i only get 1x right now which really sucks. is it true that when you have 1x your phone constantly searches for ev?
also since i did them settings for some reason my tower status is froze with the arrows and i cant even make a phone call whats goin on?
what are the default values on the connection settings on advance config? and where do you change these settings in the registry? i want to know because after i changed these settings my phone has been acting werid since i changed it and even i been changed it back to what it think was normal it still is acting weird. please help

Yes and no. It won't CONSTANTLY ping the towers for EV connection. It will do it on next tower sync. If you notice, it might get stuck in 1x for a while, but eventually switch back to EV even while sitting in the same spot.
Yeah, changing those settings can affect the signal. It would cause some starnge issues.
What settings? In what part of the registry? What part of Advanced Config?

Sprint Touch Pro data connection issues

I've owned a Touch Pro for a few months now and overall it's a good device. It has its quirks, but then again what phone doesn't? There is one problem in particular, however, that I can't seem to figure out. I've searched up and down in XDA Forums, and on Google, and I just can't find out a fix for my data connection always turning on for no reason. I have all my e-mail accounts set to "manual send / recieve", the weather program set to "update weather manually", and as far as I know there are no other programs on my phone that have access to the internet without my permission.
The problem I have is sometimes I will wake my phone up from its sleep mode, and I will discover that the data connection is active and appearing to be transmitting. Also, EVERY time I restart my phone and it goes through the boot process, the data connection will re-activate even before TouchFLO 3D opens up on the today screen. It's really annoying, because I have no idea what's causing it to do this, or why it does it at random times, or whenever I reset my device.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? I hate having to manually go in periodically and make sure my data connection is set to "off", instead of having it stay that way when I set it.
So no help on this one then?
I don't have a solution but I can help by bumping your thread and saying I have the same problem on Verizon. I was at a friend's place all weekend, and he has wifi all over, so I turned off data and used his wifi instead. Well sure enough all weekend my data connection kept turning itself back on. It seemed to happen only when going into sleep mode. So I kept the phone plugged in so it would never totally "sleep". Wifi stayed connected with no data connection starting automatically. Annoying especially considering the 5 GB data limit on the PDA plan.
Well I'm glad I'm at least not alone on this one. It's weird too that even though your device is on a different carrier, it still does the same thing. I wonder if it's a hardware issue?
I know that someone has to have an answer for this...
go into pocket express and press menu then go to express settings then on the top left theres a pulldown press it and go into auto updates and turn it off.. pissed me off when i got the phone.. couldnt find a fix till i started going through all the programs to find the one doing it.. and it was the stupid Pocket Express
I have had my MDA Compact V for a few months now, and it's only recently that I've had the same problem. Each time I switch on, my data connection starts or alternatively if I loose signal then get it back then I see my data connection is on again. Thankfully I have the Solo 20 package with unlimited net usage (although you're are limited to 1Gb/month) but it drains my battery really badly.
I went through every possible setting and program to switch off location settings or auto downloads/updates and I still have the same problem, but I downloaded Data Controller v1.00 from Freewarepocketpc.net and I can toggle my data connection on or off as I please.
Heres what you need
Install below cab, then use the NODATA app, select what you want off, PHONE AS MODEM and DATA are your two options I believe... Your data will never come back on... until you re-enable it that is....
PS... THIS IS NOT MY CAB, THIS IS SOMETHING I FOUND WHEN TRYING TO ADDRESS THESAME PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING. THIS CAB WAS DOWNLOADED FROM MoDaCo BUT I DONT HAVE THE LINK... ALL RESPECTS GO TO HIM... I AM JUST SHARING WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME IN THE PAST...
Seems it's one or the other
What sucks is on my Sprint HTC touch pro 2 (cdma), I was having a problem where I couldn't answer calls all the time, but sometimes I could, and eventually found that it was always when the data connection was showing active is when I couldn't answer a call. But when that was happening, my data connection would turn back off after a few seconds when I was done using it. It was driving me crazy not being able to answer my calls and I finally found a post that let me correct that problem, it was changing the HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume value that fixed this problem... the value of this registry setting was originally "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This setting made it so the data connection would turn off when not being used, but it apparently messes up cdma phones from being able to switch over to answer an incoming phone call if the data connection is active. I changed this registry entry to "#777" as the post said to do, and sure enough, that corrected the problem with being able to answer my calls if the data connection is active. I'm real happy to have that working now, but when I changed this setting, my data connection is now always showing active (white arrows showing in status) and even if I turn it off manually, it comes on by it's self way more often than the every 4 hours I have it set to check emails.
There is a registry setting called CacheTime under the same Settings key as the above mentioned registry entry that I changed, that when the "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" value is used, the CacheTime key value will indeed control how long the data connection stays on before automatically turning off. But When I change the Entry to "#777" which is necessary to allow me to answer calls when data is active, then changing the CacheTime value has no effect and the data connection stays on until you manually turn it off.
I'd like to find a way to turn the data connection off, while still not messing up me being able to answer calls when the data connection is active, and seems to me that if both of these things can be done separately with two different registry settings, that it must be possible to do both.... so if any of you tech wizards can find a way to do this, I'd love to see it!
Possible Fix?
Hey, I have noticed the same problem. It is annoying from a battery life aspect as well as a system slowdown when coming out of sleep. I could not find much of a workaround except one of the settings in TD3 Tools I installed. In the "Data Connection" tab you can yurn on an option that makes your "End" key also terminate an active data connections. So if you hit it after waking your phone you won't have the annoying slowdown with your Sense UI...

Few Questions regarding the SGS2

Hello everyone, I have a few questions / issues regarding this phone and android in general, here it goes:
Voice Talk: what are the differences between the two apps (the one with the green and the one with the blue background colors)? They seem to do the same things to me.
Energy saving: the energy saving implementation doesn't seem too "smart" to me. I'm cool with setting reduced energy configurations like lower brightness and turning off bluetooth etc when the battery treshold kicks in, but I'd expect it to restore my setup once the battery level goes above the treshold again. Atm I have to manually undo all the changes that the battery saving functionality does, basically once a day. Isn't there a "smarter" app that restores my settings before the energy saving mode kicks in?
The battery: I've streamed 30 min of music from the device to my car's bluetooth stereo, and it removed 26% of the battery charge. I'm on fw KE2 cause it seems that KE7 is even worse when it comes to power consumption. Still, isn't it too much?
Volume: I've turned it all the way up both with the side button and inside settings -> sounds (all 4 of them). Still, if someone in my office is talking I miss a sms reception etc. It never happened to me when I had the 5800 express music, so I'm not deaf
App notifications: I left my phone near my bed, there is at least 3 out of 4 bars of 3G signal, facebook is set on 30 min updates, accuweather on 3 hours, info-costs every hour, the phone never turned off nor lost the 3g coverage, yet it missed completely or partially a LOT of updates
App settings: app settings also seem a bit random. I have an app called noLed to show led notifications on the screen when it's locked. I had enabled it, checked the "start noled after phone reboot" and all, and even if the phone never even rebooted, after a day or two I went it and the first checkbox (activate NoLed) was misteriously turned off...
Thanks everyone,
TD

Not that I'm not following your logic, it just seems kinda silly to have 3 apps for doing something that 1 app would be enough to do. For example, it's like having Street View as another external application, even thought it's just clearly a Maps "add-on".

Yes true but a lot of users are incapable of using stuff that requires effort and need big shiny widgets and hand holding .

I'm particularly interested in a response to the energy saving that is stock on the sgs2.
However what i want to know is if the energy saving is active, or whether 'energy saving enabled' simply means it is ready to cut in when battery gets down to set target.
Any response to the above questions would be appreciated.
Ta in advance.

Isn't it kinda silly to have two different interfaces for a program I'm not even really supposed to use via its interface, but via voice commands?....

As far as I've understood, when it says 'energy saving enabled' in the notification panel it just means that the feature is turned on, but it doesn't necessarely mean that it's gone into 'energy saving mode' already.
My issue with it remains, I don't want it to disable account sync, bluetooth, turn down the brightness etc, and the day after, once the phone is recharged, I have to re-enable all of them...

Got it figured out.
Voice command is for when you're sitting down or something and can give the phone your total attention, while Voice talk is for when you're driving or something.
In Voice talk you can enable 'driving mode', which reads out and incoming texts and numbers of the phone which is calling you.
Even with that disabled, you can just say 'Hi Galaxy' or 'Hey Galaxy' and it will start listening to your commands.
(useful while you're just driving and don't want to be distracted by having to hold down the home button (ahem iPhone) or tap the Tap to speak button)
Still a bit redundant (why not just have voice talk?) but at least there's a difference
I now see what you mean about sync being disabled after leaving power saving mode.
Had a scout about and can't find a solution to this.
Anyone have a solution because this is very annoying.

I'm a bit puzzled by the battery life. I mean, afterall they advertise the various components of the gs2 as battery saving (for example the actually turned off pixels of the super amoled, or the dual core).
So, by logic, if the more advanced parts of it are energy saving compared to other less advanced models, why isn't it consuming less battery?....
Any more info?
I have a new question, is it normal under KE2 that the wi fi can't catch the signals almost al all?
At university I couldn't even detect the network, while the guy next to me with an iphone4 had full signal strength. On the train I had 1 line and it kept disconnecting, while my mate with the nokia 5800 express had no issue with it.
Even at my house going from my desk where the router is to my bed right in front of it, it already starts to drop significantly.
Another issue that I've noticed is that sometimes even tho there is 3g coverage the apps won't refresh. For example, AccuWeather hasnt refreshed since the day before, or manually firing a refresh of the contacts in my WhatsApp list ends in a "update failed, try again later" message, but after rebooting the phone it magically works right away...

[Q] Need help creating tasker profile to disable background data when signal is weak

The battery life on my 3D is far worse than my 4G, which had the extended battery (obviously). But until an extended battery is available for the 3D, I will have to deal. In order to make the battery last longer, I'd like to automatically disable background data (or auto sync) when the signal is less than 2 bars for a few minutes. Can any of you help me with this?
I've created a profile that will disable auto sync when signal is "2" or less. But I'd like to enhance it by saying it has to remain less than "2" for 3-5 minutes, so it isn't constantly enabling/disabling auto sync when I go through tunnels, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Dave
Power saver feature that is built in does that.
Oops, reading comp fail. I thought you said battery. Sorry.

Yeah, it does it when the battery reaches 15%. I want it to do this at any battery level, but only when the signal is weak.
Dave
I've made some progress with this. It's not perfect, but I think it will work.
First, create a task called "weak signal"
Check state, signal level is 0-1
Set variable %WEAKSIGNAL to 1
Wait 3 minutes
If %WEAKSIGNAL = 1
Disable auto sync (I wish this could be background data, but I don't see an option)
Then create a second task called "normal signal"
Check state, signal level is 3-8 (left a gap to prevent flapping)
Set variable %WEAKSIGNAL to 0
wait 15 seconds
If %WEAKSIGNAL = 0
Enable auto sync
I'll test this for a few days and see if it improves things. Coincidentally, I've been in areas with weak signals each day since I got the 3D. As a result, I'm lucky if the battery lasts 8 hours. I know disabling always-on data will fix this, but I don't like that the weather and everything stops syncing. Hopefully this will be a happy medium.
Dave
The tasker script seems to be working perfectly! It has definitely improved my battery life in weak signal areas, and I haven't noticed any ill effects.

Only problme I see with this is that it will kick in if you have a weak signal but still are connected to a wifi hotspot.
Could someone explain how to do this ? how to add this task? So i could save the battery when signal is low . Thanks
I am also having pretty horrific battery life, only 6 hours where my 4G use to last 36... So I thought I'd take this idea and make my own little modifications to it.
First I thought I would explain to those not familiar with Tasker. It is an app that allows you to setup your phone to automatically do "tasks" based on contexts. These contexts can be things like whether your connected to wifi, what time of the day it is, how good your signal strength is, anything your phone can "sense." And tasks are basically anything your phone can do, like turn on and off settings or launch applications.
Market Link: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
Dev Website: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
Now for my take on dodgeboy's 'profile'.
Code:
Context 1: Signal Strength, from 0 to 2
Context 2: Wifi Connected, Invert (Not connected to wifi)
Enter Task 1: Wait 1 min
Enter Task 2: Auto-Sync Off
Enter Task 3: Notify,[Title] Low Signal, [Text] Auto Sync Off, Permanent (I wanted a notification that auto sync was off)
Exit Task 1: Wait 15 sec
Exit Task 2: Auto-Sync On
Exit Task 3: Notify Cancel (Clears that Permanent notification)
Here is a link to my exported profile. Just put it on your phone's sd card. Once tasker is open, hit menu, profile data, import one profile.
http://db.tt/gb9w8O4
Let me know what you think. Haven't tested it beyond testing it at my desk by "death gripping" the phone.
ok, so there is some issue with my profile. Occasionally it will not perform the exit tasks, so the notification stays up and the auto-sync remains off. Not sure why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't..? Maybe I'll try a 2 profile setup like the OP using a variable. Will post back if I get around to making a new profile(s), or if I figure out what is wrong with my current profile.

Are you waiting for it to go through the wait period? The way I wrote it, it needs to stay in one state for a period of time before it changes whether or not the auto sync is enabled. If you want it to happen immediately, just write it without the variable and wait sections.
The reason I want it to wait is because when you enable auto sync, it seems to perform at least a partial sync immediately. I don't want this script to make the battery worse, because it is constantly syncing as it comes in an out of signal range.
Thanks for all the comments, very helpful !!! It is noticeable the battery saving

[Q] JuiceDefender Plus Settings

I had downloaded JuiceDefender Plus and love the default settings you can choose from. I was wondering if anyone out there uses this app as well and has specific settings setup a certain way to give them the best battery life. My main problem I am having right now is when i use the Balanced setting or any other, if my screen is off and someone sends me a message with something attached, it doesn't download. Even when I turn on the screen and go to open the message, it just keeps saying "Downloading". So i have to have that person resend it after i shut down JuiceDefender. Anyone have any suggestions what I can change to fix it where i can still get my messages with attachments?

try advance mode and let wifi be preferred over 3g or 2g when available and most important disable connectivity temp while screen off

Having an odd issue with the Rezound

This has been like this for the past several roms I've ran. Basically when the screen is off, I do not receive text messages. When I turn the screen on, I get all of my notifications basically instantly. Is there a setting I'm missing here that shuts off connection when the screen is off? Right now I'm on venusaur rom.

This happened to me once when I somehow had sync over 3G disabled, AND have the setting to disable wifi when the screen sleeps enabled
Check account & sync in settings, and check the advanced wifi menu in settings as well.
I always leave wifi off because I have an unlimited plan. So I do have it so wifi shuts off when the screen is turned off and to never auto turn on. Not sure if that has anything to do with not receiving texts.
In accounts and sync I do not see any sort of option to sync over 3G. Overall its enabled though.

SMS has nothing to do with wifi or data. So it shouldn't affect the normal texts coming in.

Thats what I thought which is why I can't seem to think of what would be causing this. Sometimes it comes through four-five minutes late and other times it will not come through at all until I turn the screen on. This has only been happening relatively recently and I'm in a constant five bar area.

Yeah that sounds exactly like what's up with my phone. Past two weeks is a very good time frame for when this started happening.
I've been having this for a while regardless of rom :/
Are you in some kind of "power-save" mode?
No power save mode that I know of.
Best advice I can think of is to run a ruu again. Then clean install a Rom. That way you will be starting fresh.

Are any of you running anything like Juice Defender? Maybe you can download Juice Defender to help you find the option to allow screen off operations.
Alternatively, you can try going to: Settings, Power, Power Mode, change to High Performance.

No Juice Defender or anything here.
And I just noticed this. I went to send a text message and turned the screen off. I went to check twenty minutes later to see if there was a reply and the timer was still going. After a few seconds of the screen being on it said text sent. This is a huge issue.
Yo
Did you try Gorillas suggestion above?
My Zound sleeps too deeply for me unless
Power setting is High Performance mode.
Worth a try....
I don't know where that option is. He said it was under power settings, but there is no option to select modes from there.
.
Nick,
Check Settings - Power - see 3rd item down from top "POWER MODE",
choose it and see Economy, Norbal, and High Performance.
Choose High Performance and your radios will behave better, at least
mine do.....
That option isn't there. When I click power it goes, battery status, battery level, battery use and fast boot.

Click to collapse
