keyboard/landscape screen problem - Touch Pro CDMA

I have an alltel version of the touch pro, when I open the keyboard (physical) and switch to the landscape view, some strange problems happen with several applications. Using calendar, contacts, the I beam appears but nothing is seen in the dialogue box until moving to the next box. Also, when opening the menue, the selected item shown no text, just a single - until another item is selected. Replaced the phone and applied a full backup at which point the same behavior apperard on the new phone. Erased all data on old phone and behavior disappeared. Short of reseting the new phone, what registry entry or setting would modify this behavior?
Any help would be appreciated

YOu need to turn cleartype off in landscape.

That worked, something so simple.

Empty Boxes in Programs Tab

Hi,
I've installed several apps and tweaks on my TP and I believe one of them gives a very undesired side effect - just not sure which one.
In the Programs Tab I have now a third page of place holders - except, they don't do anything. I can't load another app onto them. And if I try, they stay blank but another place holder appears next to it, making the page longer and longer.
I have not figured out how to get rid of them or use them or reverse the effect. But it does give me trouble getting to the second page of the usable soft buttons. It just quickly scrolls past it.
If anyone has any ideas, I would like to hear them.
Possible culprits: Advanced Configuration Tool or AE Button Mapper....
Found the Solution / Fix!
You can only have 18 icons in the programs tab, the new one/s that keep popping up are useless. You can get rid of them by going in to your registry and delelting the offending entries.
Navigate to - HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\
In here look for a key that does not belong, you should have 0-17, when I get a rogue program icon it is usually listed as 100. Delete the whole key and voila the icon is gone. You don't have to reboot all you have to do is navigate to another tab and back to programs and the icon will be gone.

Tweaks & Tips

I will be compiling a list of tips and tricks as I'm getting used to my S740 that will hopefully help others ramp up more quickly.
Desired Result: I'd like to have my phone lock when the screen goes dark so I don't accidentally call someone from my pocket
Suggestion: assuming you've already tweaked your power settings to turn off display per your preferences, go to Settings, More, More, Key Lock. Select "Lock Device When Idle" and check "Unlock Device When Keypad is Opened"
Result: this ensures I don't call someone accidentally (power timeout for screen is set to 10 seconds, lock device when idle locks device when screen goes off) but still allows me to grab the phone from my pocket, open it, and txt someone without having to enter my pin.
Quickly Toggle Bluetooth On/Off
(an old favourite)
Desired Result: a quick way to toggle bluetooth on and off
Suggestion: install Bluetooth Toggler from this thread; map a SpeedDial button to it by going to the app (might be under Accessories), clicking Menu, Add to Speed Dial
Result: holding down that Speed Dial number = BT toggles
Here are some in which i have used and compiled :
CHomeConfig - Configure your Sliding Pane
clockontop - Display digital clock on top bar and make avalible on all screens (except home)
Dr.Gonzo Clear Fonts - Installs clear fonts (beautiful)
HTC_Touch_Dualt9_problem_patch - Disables XT9
mixtapeking1900-turn-sms-sent-notification-off - Disable "Message Sent" notice from SMS
moBluev2_1_setup - Receive bluetooth files to Storage Card
SMSBubbles - Display new SMS message on home screen.
Additionally, i wanted to check with you guys. I notice that on my default HTC Sliding Panels, the photos plugin is missing ! I have seen it on preview videos, but somehow it's not on my unit. Is it avalible on yours ?
Here are some more
spreset - soft reset
QuadSMS - Automatically resolve phone numbers to contact for SMS and Delivery Report
VGA MusicID - Music ID

I have it in my 740 rom on my shadow. are you also missing the reg entries for the pictures homescreen plugin ?
I doubt they removed it from the cpr. check the home.xml to see if they just removed it from there.
Guys remember chomeconfig will not save your configs after reboot.
so any homescreen order will be reset to default after reboot. at least on my 740 rom it doesnt save because the HTC home.xml is diffrent then normal 6.1 home.xmls
can anyone realize a direct link to "write new sms" on the home page?!?
thank you in advance!
Luca
ShadowMike,
Thanks for your info. I used CHomeConfig to check and looks like the CMyPhotos there, but disabled by default on HTC Home . Wonder why they did that.
Viskas,
If you change the default home screen from HTC Home to Windows Sliding Panel, the SMS/Messages plugin allows you to create new sms from the home screen.
However, i believe you should also consider the faster way to write a new SMS from the home screen, which is to just start typing the contacts NAME from the home screen, and select send SMS using the softkey. I think this is the best and fastest way to do it.

To disable the HTC/TouchlessFlo/whatever black ugly volume bar, delete following registry key. The default system volume bar will appear next time you restart the device.
Code:
HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\Services\HTCVOLUME

Program shortcuts on Homescreen?
Is it possible to put a shortcuts for launching of favorite programs directly on HomeScreen ?
picture dialer
Anyone know of a way to add a picture dialer (like in touchflow 2/3D) to the homescreen, possibly via CHome Config? I really can't get used to only having the keyboard quickdials as an option.
Phone contacts vs SIM contacts
I'm really annoyed 'cause I can't find a way to make it show me only the contacts stored on the phone. Any ideas?

ugly "beep" sound at call start
Hi,
I am trying to get rid of the "beep" sound that you hear when you press the green receiver to start a telephone call. In S710 one should exchange the file callstart.wav. In Windows Mobile 6, I cannot find this file. Anyone knows what to do ?
Thanks.

For people that want to have control on what is tweaked to allow them to easily revert back. You only have to add the following key to your registry for defaulting to abc mode instead of the annoying XT9 (see CM_ENT~1.001 in HTC_Touch_Dual_t9_problem_patch.CAB):
Key Name:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME
Value Name:
CarrierDefaultTextMode

[Q] Issue with phone history loading

So I've noticed this issue with a few different ROMs I've flashed (TeslaCoil, Das BAMF, VirusAirborne) that when I open the phone application and begin typing a number it does not automatically begin searching/displaying contacts until I backspace out all of the characters that I've entered. Once the characters have been cleared the usual (recents, favorites, etc) show up. Not sure where this small gap in referencing comes from but was looking to resolve it..
I'm not positive but I think that some of those roms utilize Launcher Pro, and that has been a Launcher Pro bug since the Thunderbolt came out. I am using a stock rom, but since I am using Launcher Pro, the same thing happens to me.
clearly i did a horrible job of searching because it's been remedied thanks to this thread/post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12670449&postcount=3
'Note: there seems to be a little bug with all 3rd party launchers where if you you hit the phone button and the dialer pops up, the contact list is blank and the smart dial does not work. To remedy this long press phone, select a new application and restart Launcher Pro then add the phone back, you may also have to open up the dialer and try to dial a few numbers and delete them and the contacts should appear. Not really sure why this happens. '
reassigning the phone application shortcut in the launcher pro dock got it up and working.
mod close plz!

Issue with certain Settings? Keeps crashing and/or kicking out of app.

Hi all -
Has anyone had any issue accessing the settings marked in the attached screenshot on their Lumia 920? Everytime I try to access any of the marked settings, the phone either crashes (hangs/becomes non-responsive, requiring a soft-reboot) or it kicks me back to the main settings menu after trying to load the particular setting (running dots on a blank screen for a few seconds).
Specific issues:
1. Accessories (Nokia accessories settings) - doesn't open the sub-settings menu; running dots on a blank screen for a few seconds, then kicks back out main system settings menu.
2. Audio (equalizer and Dolby Headphone) - doesn't open the sub-settings menu; running dots on a blank screen for a few seconds, reads "Loading", changes in 2 seconds to "Resuming" then kicks back out to the main system settings menu.
3. Display + Touch (adjust) - doesn't open the sub-settings menu; running dots on a blank screen for a few seconds, then kicks back out main system settings menu.
4. calls + sms (call waiting, forwarding, and sms) - goes to a blank screen with "Loading" for 2 seconds, then errors out: "Please try again later - Sorry, your network settings aren't available right now. Please try again." with an OK box. Click the OK box kicks back to the calls setting, except the screen reads: call waiting - Sorry, blah blah. Need to hit back to get back to main system settins menu.
5. feedback to Nokia (Nokia values your opinion) - hangs the phone, requires a soft-reboot to make phone operational again.
6. Nokia Account (Setup your Nokia account) - goes to a blank screen with "Gathering your options" for 2 seconds, then errors out: "Network problem - we couldn't complete that operation. Please try again later." with an OK box. Clicking the OK box kicks back out to the main system settings menu.
7. Extras + info - this was the same as Accessories (above). Received/downloaded/installed an updatte for "extras" from Nokia this morning - and it now loads with the Policies and Agreements as well as at the version number/enhancements, etc.
Any insight/help would be much appreciated. I have not attempted a full reset - it's a PITA to get everything set up on the phone again, and i'd rather not do it if there's an option not to.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I'm not prepared to speak to the scenario's causing you problems, but I have not experienced it myself. I would like to ask about your PITA comment. Have you tried the backup scenario with Windows Phone? It works fairly well. Though it does not save game data or music, it does recognize all apps and settings, and reinstalls those apps once you supply any required passwords. To me, the biggest PITA is the lack of Screen saving. But with the apps installed for me, arranging the screen is not that bad.
I had the exact same issue and I reset the phone and started again - this time with no issues however I did not do the restore once I reset the phone just incase it copied the bug back again. Done everything from scratch and no issues.

Good point, I have not tried the back-up scenario, for the same reason as the previous poster mentioned - I was worried about the bug replicating itself on the restore, and then I'd be stuck with having to set up all the apps, etc. Which it sounds like I'll have to do anyway, it seems, since that's the next logical step.
Thanks for your comments/replies. Much appreciated.

CM9 XU MIUI V5 Issues

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482327
When accessing the WLAN for the first time a keyboard does not appear to enter WLAN password. A notification has appeared which is prompting to select keyboard type. The default setting seems to be Remote Keybaord (MyPhoneExplorer). This doesn't seem like a good default.
I can't access new ringtones. It says unable to connect even though I then go on to add and sync a google account. (so there's nothing wrong with the internet)
Under "Clock" the word "StopWatch" doesn't fit inside the screen. It says Stopwa and then runs out of space.
"News and Weather" crashes upon launch.
Gallery crashes when selecting what I assume is a contrast adjuster in the lower left. (Looks like three circles intertwined)
Gallery seems to have issues with images that contain transparency. A garbled version of another image is shown in the transparent parts. (When viewing a single image and swiping left / right to view next)
I'm not crazy about the "Bee-do bee-do" loader screen. Maybe others like it but I'd prefer something more sedate.
