PMP Rom - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Upgrading

I would love to turn my HTC6500 into a personal media player (PMP) i have been looking around and havent found anything even remotely like this. the idea is to make it boot into a screen where i can navigate easily to movies and music, with the comm manager available as well. if this is already possible i would love to be pointed in the right direction. thanks guys

Yes, i've been looking for something like this a long time, too. For now I'am using TCPMP and Mort for Media Access, but a GUI like IPOD Touch would be nice.
Has anybody seen or produced am "Multimedia ROM"?

media center extender for athena?

please don't flame me for not searching the forums if such a topic has already been discussed - my search function simply isn't working. I have however browsed the forums with no luck. I was simply wondering if it is possible to use my athena as a media extender- not just control it but view videos, music and pictures the same way i would through an xbox or a pc.

orb is ok but id prefer something to directly sync with my Media Center setup at home.
Also my Athena crashes whenever Media Player loads up. I've got PK's Black Touch 2.0. Applied the WM fix but it didn't work.
Wondered if anyone has tried this..... haven't had chance yet

Try using Webguid on your media center pc. It integrates into the mediacenter application and is a ton more stable than Orb (especially on Vista). It's free for XP and Vista media center users and is very easily navigated on a laptop or handheld (more than Orb was anyway, and yes I've used both). Webguide is the closest I've come to turning my handheld into a media center extender as I can get.
I don't have the url, but a quick google for webguide+mediacenter should get you going in the right direction. Also, try using TCPMP to view the streaming on your handheld instead of WMP.
Good luck.

If it helps, I tried the various WMP fixes without success until I saw the one about previewing the skins. This is what worked for me:
1) In options uncheck open in library screen.
2) In landscape mode go to options and select skin tab. Wait until the skin appears - takes a few seconds
3) In Portrait mode do the same as for 2)
That worked for me. I don't think I did the "play a track from playlist" trick, but I did have a playlist set up. Reason I can't be sure is that this is the third time I've had to rebuild my Athena with PK2.0 because previous 2 versions got stuck during hard reset after I had set various things up.
Hope this helps someone

Streaming audio, using ORB, alternatives....

Simple problem. I have several thousand mp3s at home and want to stream them to my phone so that I have all my songs regardless of my location. Even an 8GB MicroSDHC card will not hold all the songs, so streaming is the next best alternative.
I've tried using ORB, and it's a great idea, but the interface through PIE leaves much to be desired. It's difficult to drive around and click the little links, even on large font. Also there is no easy way to queue songs up without making a playlist prior.
Are there any alternatives to ORB that have a better front-end? It'd be nice to have a touch-friendly scrolling type of "catalog" of my songs, and then stream/queue them when I select them. Doesn't seem so hard.
I even tried creating a home web page with IIS, and that worked to a point, but there's got to be something better.
Thanks!

I read in one of the other threads that SanDisk has announced a 12GB micro SD available this summer and they speculate that it may be a 16GB by the time it comes out.
I agree 100%...I love ORB but it is way too difficult to navigate.
They really have it all down except the few things you mentioned
Anyone else??
SelectRadio 4.0.2 ?
This prog has such an option, and I do use the program but have not tried it out for that so I do not know how well it works.
Lobster Tunes will do it for you. It's not free, though.

Lobster looks pretty cool. I'm going to check it out and see if it offers a better experience than what I currently use (Andromeda - http://www.turnstyle.com/andromeda/home.asp).

What do you find bad about Andromeda? I was thinking about giving it a try...
Here is one I have been wondering about. What software can you use to stream your local radio stations to your phone? I know about tuned.mobi and such, but the problem is that when a game comes on, they usually block the broadcast of the audio stream even though it is playing on the local AM radio station. I want to be able to broadcast my local radio stations (AM and FM) to my phone so I can still get the games.
I wonder if someone could not write a program that integrates everything available through orb into you wmp library i.e. some sort of plugin maybee we could put together a donation pot to get one of the dev's to work on the project

lol, I have a radio...multiple radios. I think you may have misunderstood me. If I got something like this device would I be able to stream it to my phone? I travel... when I am in another state, I can not stream my local radio station broadcasts through the internet to listen to games (blacked out). However, they are playing on the radio station if I were at home and able listen to my radio.
well I think I finally found my cream of the crop... saw this thread and I have to say, andromeda is the BEST solution I've found for getting my music to my PPC...
it works very well with PIE and is very zippy zippy zippy...
I've tried:
1) lobstertunes - buggy, slow, doesn't work with all ROMs
2) gnump3d - buggy perl script, cool features but crashes a lot
3) orb - as you all have stated, interface sucks in PIE and too hard to navigate
4) andromeda - FAST, stable, and CLEAN... worth every penny of the $20 lol
I like the interface of Andromeda the best, not to mention it's speed. Although you can create a playlist, you still can't just "queue" one up...unless I'm missing something.
Took me some tweaks to get it to work too. Have to rename the asp to m3u and make it executable on the server. I also had to use a third party player.
What player are you using? Also, when I click on a file to stream, it always asks me if I want to overwrite the existing m3u. I say yes and it works fine, but ya know

Yup gotta do a few tweaks but it ends up workin'... yes same thing with overwiting the file but that's typical... I use TCPMP and it works flawlessly.

I like both mundu and resco radio, but they are streaming only. I may try andromeda, PM me with details please.
Do you have a mac?
I'm not sure this would work for you, but it's something that I'm going to try once the needed adapter comes in.
I feel slingbox works really well on my phone and I use it to stream live TV. For my media files I'm planning on using my mac mini which has an IR sensor for the remote and Front Row. The front row interface is very similar to the interface on an ipod and the commands are supposedly supported by slingbox. Once I get the adapter for vga-svideo I will set it up. The only downside I can think of is that audio when watching TV doesn't come over in good quality unless I have it in audio only mode, but this might not be a problem with Front Row where there will be very little visual data transmitted for audio files.
The reason a mac mini is nice is that it has a built in IR sensor. This bet this will work with windows media center too if you have something to control it with IR. Another potential downside is that the computer pretty much needs to be dedicated to working as a media server lest you forget to put it back into media mode.

[Q] Eris as a media player

So, I am moving on up from my eris and wanted to set it up as a remotely controlled wifi stereo with my speakers. I was wondering if there was any way to use my new phone to remotely control it? (aside from having google voice set up on it with tasker so I can start an app) Any help would be appreciated.
I'm in the same situation as you. Recently upgraded, but still love my Eris and would love to re-purpose it. As far as your question goes I found this article that you might be interested in. XDA isn't letting me post a link but if you google "VNC android" look for "Remotely Control Android Phone [VNC Server]". The website is taranfx.com.
Now in the near future posts like this are going to become more and more prevalent as more people move away from the old Eris to bigger and better phones. I would be really excited if I could download a ROM for the Eris geared toward media player/iPod Touch like functionality. Maybe strip out phone and messaging stuff and pre-load some headphone controls, equalizers, video players or VNC functionality like the OPs question? I'm just throwing ideas around but I figured this would be a good place to put my suggestion.

*IF* you use your computer as your media hub/server/DVR like me then you can remotely control VLC/VideoLAN and Media Player Classic for Home Cinema with Android apps for the purpose, over WIFI. I don't actually do it because my phone IS my internet right now, but it looks solid.
i was in the same situation a while ago too. someone told me about webkey. its in the market, and you can control the phone from anywhere (doesnt need wifi or bluetooth).
from what ive read, you can not directly connect to the phone if you live in america. i do, and whenever i try, the browser times out. using the webkey website and logging in however, works just fine. actions you do from the computer happen on the phone within 1 second, but sometimes it may take 3-4 seconds to refresh the picture on the website.
i will look into this vnc thing..
First step would be a way to toggle the CDMA radio off, while leveaing wifi and bluetooth on. I know you can use *#*#4636#*#*, but when you reboot the radio is back on.
Bump.
I too would like to re-purpose my Eris as a music or media player of some sort.

Streaming App

Hi all,
I want to be able to stream 774 Melbourne on my Android. They have both pls or asx streams available.
http://www.abc.net.au/radio/listenlive.htm#directlinks
Anyone know of a nice light weight app that can assist? I can seem to find ones with pre-defined streams though finding one that i can put in my own URL seems difficult.
Appreciate your help.
Theres not much out there for apps that allow custom streaming URLs. Really wish we had something like TCPMP/Coreplayer on Android. You could try Moboplayer but I've never been able to get much to work in it. It does work in Winamp Pro, an app I've been pretty impressed with.
I had to input the direct stream URL by opening the pls file in Notepad which is:
http://shoutmedia.abc.net.au:10350/
They have an iPhone app, but no Android app. You should complain, its not 2007 anymore.
thanks for the response.
I did find one its called Stream Media Player. Seems to work ok. though a bit heavy for my liking.
Ive also been told to try TunedIn Radio which already has ABC in its predefined list.
Hope it works out OK

Running Android on a Large Touch Screen?

I'm setting up a TV in my kitchen and what I'd really like to do is install a touchscreen monitor and run Android on it. The idea is to be able to run Android apps such as Plex, Calendar, Google Keep and my Central Heating app as well as Music players etc, which will all link into my Chromecast Audio setup. I'm struggling to find a large enough tablet, which would have been the easiest option, and I'm struggling to find an easy way to do this.
Is it possible? If so, where should I start, I feel like I've been looking in the wrong places. If it's not possible, is there another way to get a similar result?
Thanks!
