Xv6800 no gps at all i think i have tried everything - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Hey everyone i know alot about this phone from your forums. I have done the gps update on my phone using the wiki you had and Worked for some time. So after some time the gps wont pick up any satellites. Ok so i thought well i would hard reset and resintall the carrier cab and gps cab nogo. Ok so i reverted to stock rom and redid to dcd rom and radio added the carrier cab and gps cab again nogo. I even tried the mr1 update with gps cab via your wiki and still google maps and live search wont pick up the gps. Does anyone other than a defective gps unit have any other steps to try would be appreciated. thanks

Did you even search to see if others had your same problem. Look in the last 10 pages here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387

have you applied the aGPS fix? and if you have, did you update with the new information? im not sure when it happened, but verizon changed the IP address and port you should be using. i lost gps for a while and didnt even realize that a hard reset made me lose all my gpsOne settings (when i lost my akey). if you have the aGPS fix set up correctly, you should have no issues at all.

I've been having a similar problem. I am not sure what the definitive ip address settings for verizon users should be (ip/port, that is). I think I've seen at least 2 or 3 different settings, including Telus ones. Does anyone know, definitively, which ip address and port we should be using?

When you mean the ip address change do you mean using qpst and if so i might not have changed the ip address.so i will give that a chance i saw in a previous post a different ip didnt think anything of it. I will try and if someone has the new ip can you please send it to me.
I found
ServerIP=66.174.95.132
ServerPort=8888
Or is it
ServerIP = 216.198.139.92
ServerPort = 8889
And one thing i looked at my phone and when i pull up qpst i dont see the usb ports listed i do see unknown i would try those but if anyone has anything on that would be great thanks
Guess i have to revert back from mr1 to dcd rom hope this works i loved my gps. my omnitech with igo and navigon is ok but i like google maps better.

you should be using DCDs rom anyways. the correct settings are the second block that you listed. your ports may not match the same numbers as the wiki, but add them both and open whichever one has SURF next to it

Use the telus servers. The verizon ones are hit and miss if they work without VZ navigator.

whats the settings for telus doing rom update right now

68 to 69
Ok so i had the xv6800 and got it working with gps. Then i decided to get the xv6900 because it has more ram and i knew my software i had would work on it. Plus i knew about this hack so....I gave it a shot.
Well I turned on the XV6900 as soon as i had power running to it, and it came from verizon with 6.1 on it. Which saved me some time having to install it later. The first thing i did was install the vahalla cab that i had on my 6800.
the registry settings were automatically set at
Mode 2
PDE address 5C8BC6D8
PDE port to 8889
I then installed the Serf telus agps deal....
Mode 4
server ip 216.198.139.92
server port 8889
then i install Franson gpsgate2.6
and it shows me a lite green icon on my today screen then when you go into settings it says "getting gps data, but no position"
I couldn't get gps to work in google or live. Maybe because i was impatient. I sat here at work on the 8th floor of my building and still couldn't get it to work. So finally I when i was leaving for work, i called my wife to let her know i was on my way home, and when i hung up the phone....there it was. The light green was now dark green which means gps position. And it works now. So i installed tomtom and that works (btw i use gpsgate for this to fool tomtom into thinking that the installed gps is a real tethered gps, because built in wouldn't work). So now gps works great, until I turn on my phone on the 8th floor. So my guess is, the gps has to get a lock outside with clearview of sky while you use your phone. once you do this the agps helps out and then you can go inside and still have location.
Try it let me know if this works for you.
btw- has anyone been getting text msgs saying a free software update available by dialing *228 then 2? this updates the roaming area. I wonder if this is tied in with us hacking the gps. Just a thought.

Telus server info.

verizon 6800 gps woes

copied and pasted from the gps faq:
hey guys,
im a long time reader and this is me first post here on the forums.
im having an issue with the gps for the xv6800 on verizon. ive read through lots and lots of posts regarding verizon and their gps service, agps and the like. my problem is that i dont ever get a lock, and never see any satalites in the htc gps tool. it just sits there.
ive got
VZW XV6800
Rom: DCD 3.2.0
Radio: 3.42.30
i installed the radio using the sprint official rom, and then put dcd's over that. im using olipro 2.40 and after i put in dcd's rom, i ran the verizon carrier cab. also the arc mms thing but im sure that has nothing to do with anything other than mms.
my gps settings are
com4
4800 baud
and manage automatically.
location mode is set to on.
i dont have tomtom or another commercial program to test, so ive been trying google maps and windows live. google maps tells me my handset doesnt seem to be compatible with my location, and windows live just tells me gps signal lost.
ive let it sit for roughly an hour and some change, trying for a lock, although that is unpractical for everyday use, i just wanted it to lock.
i read on here that other verizon customers gets theirs to lock in minutes, and that would be great for me if i could get that. so im asking, is it just my handset? or have i not done a crucial step in the flashing, programming?
didnt call verizon when i switched phones to reactivate data or whatever, i didnt know what i was supposed to ask them to do, so i just switched phones thru vzw.com and it makes calls and uses the ## codes perfectly. ive dont the *228 ect .
am i just sol? i really would love to have gps back, my previous phone broke, and i used vznav and that was great.
thanks in advance.
try this, and see if it makes a difference:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
thank you for the reply but i forgot to mention that i have already applied the gps fix fromt the tutorial. i read somwhere that is persists through flashes, so i have not tried to reapply it after upgrading to the latest dcd.
if it truly does not then i will try to reapply that again when i get off of work
gmaps always says not compatible with my location (it is a feature some phones support that doesn't use gps) - don't use my location, check 'use gps'.... once the gps has a lock my location will send you to that location though....

Can't get GPS working on XV6800. At my wits end here.

I've tried practically everything I've found. Telus cab file, QPST method, changed registry settings, etc. Nothing seems to work. So, I'm hoping someone here can tell me what I am doing wrong or what I am missing.
Phone: XV6800
Carrier: Verizon
Radio: 3.42.50
D: 3.56
P DXAAXAM-4350H
I am running Build 21501 (via this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497303)
Location On is set
GPS Port is 4, hardware port is NONE, baud rate is 4800, Manage GPS Automatically is checked
I've done the QPST Configuration thing a few times with different IP addresses/port numbers (Verizon, Telus, some other ones) and none seem to work. At the moment, my settings are:
EnableGPS = 1
EnableGPSSmartMode = 1
EnablePDEIPFrom = 1
GPSMode = 1
NumberFixes = 999999999
QoSAccurace = 50
QosPerformance = 89
ServerIP = 216.198.139.92
ServerPort = 8889
TimeBetweenFixes = 1
I am using Google Latitude ("Use GPS" is checked and "Managed by Windows" is selected) and it just sits at "Seeking GPS satellites(0)" regardless of where I am located (home/work/inside/outside/etc).
I am guessing that either I need a different radio, different IP/Port or my device actually has some hardware issue.
Can anyone help me?
Try to use something like htc gps tool or gpsvier to see your status. Also in those programs see if you see red dots on the satelitte view. If not I bet location is off or you are using a custom rom and did not rool back to pregps verizon rom before going custom. Verizon blocks gps with mr1 on custom. So do below directions.

Here is the easiest way to fix your vx6800's gps.
Here buddy, you want to follow my guide. This is the way I fixed my vx6800's gps when a verizon ROM upgrade locked out the gps. Just read it and follow it perfectly and you will have no problems from then on.

This method has helped me, and many others out. I made the steps to be easy for almost anyone to follow. I also provide the downloads.

Hi-
I believe the following are the correct settings for Verizon:
ServerIP=66.174.95.132
ServerPort=8888
And don't forget that after you do the setup using QPST you must edit the registry and change settings there. I have had no trouble on my Verizon XV6800 using QPST and getting the GPS to work. I have the same radio as you and the same ROM.
There are tutorials on this forum and on PPCGeeks that provide the complete instructions. This one has worked for me many times. Note that shadow-tech tells you to "see post #2 if you're not on Alltel". There he gives you the settings for Verizon and other carriers:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377&highlight=Alltel+GPS
Good luck!
It took me almost a month to figure how to get my GPS working. Finally after reading hundreds of post, someone mentioned that when you dial *228 to program your phone the friggin sheisters at verizon use this opportunity to disable the GPS all over again. Relock, flash back to MR1, unlock using nue 2.47, flash radio 3.42.50, flash custom ROM of choice ( I am using the newest 6.5 build 21222 from PPC Geeks), DO NOT "update roaming" by dialing *228, and you should be good to go. All of this is a lot easier if you flash from an SD card < 2 GB. Good luck.
P.S. screw Verizon.

Thanks for the input. I went through and did everything you said. I am having issues reinstalling Google Maps (it just pops up an unsuccessful message in the middle of it) but I put Live Search on and it can't get the GPS to lock either. So it seems I am still screwed.
Let me state this again for you. You must roll back to pregps rom before goign custom on a verizon phone. Please follow the link I provided. Also do not use google maps. Use htc gps tool or gps viewer to see your signal. That way you can see if your gps is even trying to get a lock. If you do not see red dots on the satelittle view of either program than you don't have location on or you did not roll back before going custom.
I went to your link and started at step one. When it came time to install the Radio and ROM, I used the 3.42.40 radio and the new 21222 ROM from here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=903142
He just updated the rom again last night and I just flashed to that rom to see if it would help. Now I can't seem to install any apps on there anyway so I guess whether the GPS works or not doesn't really matter until I get that fixed.
Everything I try to install tells me it was unsuccessful.
Edit: Actually I am mistaken. Skyfire installed fine.
And I have downloaded GPS Viewer since the other one wouldn't install and it found the GPS (COM 4, 4800 baud rate) and I click "Open GPS" and my LAT/LON are both 0.0" and it tells me "No Fix".
Are you outside? Is your data connection active? Did you look in satellite view to see if you see red dots? How long did you wait for a fix?
I was outside. I saw about 6 boxes with numbers come up below the globe. The only red dot I saw was one right at the "N" on the globe. No fix or lat/lon. I waited for about 3 minutes.
Well you are at least trying to acquire. Maybe try to stay outside longer. And you didn't mention. Was your data connection active.
I just checked again, making sure the data connection was up (I believe it was before as well). This time, however, I was seeing dots around the globe, not just at "N" adn the value for "Dop" was alternating between 0.0 and 13.1. Still no LAT/LON or Fix, though.
Well it is trying to acquire. Give it some more time.
Also being that you are using agps. I kinda doubt the servers adress are right because this is working at standaloen gps speeds. Also maybe install quickgps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862269&postcount=2
Quick GPS can't download apparently so no help there.
I think I'm going to give up on this for a while. It's just not meant to be.
I would say theres a chance the GPS driver in the ROM you are using is a tad buggy. Your GPS at least finds satellites just never gets a lock correct? If you cant get a lock its because you are using a vx6800 make sure your ERI is version 4? Make sure to use QPST to uncheck all the agps boxes in the GPS one tab and then recheck them? ex: all blank [ ], then all [X], then double check your port, ip, and position calculation (dont leave that page write to phone while still in GPS one tab.) Boot ROM back up and double check your registry settings for aGPS, then last thing you can try is putting GPS in standalone mode. By setting Gpssmartmode to 0 enable agps to 0 and gps mode to 1, soft reset and try again.
Thanks for the info. I'll try it and let you know what happens.
You have to run the registry changes that are listed on the page I gave you. That fixes the download problem.

GPS Issue, could use advice

R 3.42.50
D 3.3.4
Verizon Service
I've been running on this awhile. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my GPS just stopped working. Ie meaning that it was working before, and I made zero changes and now none of the GPS applications can detect that there is a GPS.
I'm looking for the most painless recommendation that I can do to get it working.
A. Do I need to flash a new radio rom and then do another set of the GPSFix using the windows tools again?
B. Do I need to upgrade both the rom and radio at the same time (ugh ...)
C. Is there another reason for the fact it no longer works, such as the IP address changed for assisted GPS or anything and I could just change it?
Anything you can offer would help. I went through a few pages of the 70+ page posts here on these subjects but couldnt find anything relating to prior working phones randomly stop working.
I will say that my friend is also on Verizon, has a mogul, I think he has a similiar radio and firmware and his has stopped working as well, so my guess is something has change carrier side and we're just not in the know =)
Thanks in advance for any points, and no flames for not being magical and finding the right post with the answer already in it ..
I just went through the latest updates to the AGPS article at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
I have updated the IP address to the one listed there (mine was different), and still no luck.
Working now. Had to restart it twice, turn location on and off and on again, and then let it sit for awhile. I just didnt have the patience.

Titan / xv6800 GPS : I'm at my wit's end

Any ideas how to get GPS going? I've tried multiple roms, messing with QPST, following wiki, different cabs / reg settings, and I can't get anything.
There does seem to be some NMEA data flying around on COM4, but it is lines like $GPR,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, , no GPS data in it.
I have tried many different programs, never getting even one satellite in view.
Currently system is:
ROM: dcd 3.3.4
Radio 3.37.75
PRL version 51574
PRI version 1.35_002
I have been searching google, here, ppc forums, and HOFO for DAYS trying to get this to work.
(also I am wanting to get QNC internet working, that is a secondary goal though)
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Ok you are are with Verizon. And I bet you had MR1/2 before you went custom. The stock verizon rom blocks gps out with any custom rom afterwards. If you want a custom rom and gps then do the following roll back rom then go to custom again. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21161 Then apply gps settings. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3555579&postcount=703
The phone is activated on Page Plus, a MVNO that utilizes Verizon network. I got it from someone who used it on verizon.
When I first got it, I updated to latest "official" ROM, which I believe was MR2. I downloaded it from HTC's website.
I have just now tried to update my PRI using RadioRefurbish.exe but it does not seem to be working...
I will look at those things you posted. I had come across something mentioning that.. wasn't sure if it was what I needed to do or not.
**** Verizon. Ugh. Evil. Pure Evil.
Edit: I tried some Valhalla Legends, GPS Fix, blah blah other CAB files when I had MR2, with same results.
Ok, I have relocked device, and now I am loading the stock firmware.
What do I do after that? I can follow those steps. but... it does not seem complete information there on that link.
Do I install some version of valhalla, then do those steps?
Won't all that be lost on a hard reboot / ROM flash to custom ROM though?
Flashing to stock get you a 1.35 pri. You then can unlock, flash radio, and the go to which ever custom rom you like. The only thing is that i dont know if agps will work for you since you arent on verizon. But you so know agps requires a data package for use. You will have standalone gps without installing anyhting on the custom rom. I use standalone with no problems.
already have that pri as per my original post.
I was trying to get to the 2.x pri before.... do I not want that?
I also tried to flash a higher radio when I was on custom rom but it would not work.
So what do I do now, and in precisely what order?
.... right! Well, that makes it easy.
I unlocked again with 2.40, now I am trying to flash the latest version radio found on DCD's file server.
I flashed latest radio... unit hard reset, then afterwards I still have Radio 1.30.60 on device information screen.
If you could tell me step by step what I need to do, I would appreciate it.
Currently :
ROM version 2.09.605.8
rom date 05 03 07
radio 1.30.60
PRI version 1.35_002
GPS is now somewhat working, I haven't gotten a lock yet. Also haven't gone outside yet, might have something to do with it.
Now to get aGPS working.
Except DCD sucks, and QPST doesn't work in half his ROMs. Sigh. I'll have to find a decent ROM to use so I can get aGPS and QNC internet working.
Thanks for your help drewcam888, it set me on the right path to getting where I am now.
DCd is awesome and qpst works on all this roms. You must have a carrier cab installed to allow use of ## codes.
I believe you are mistaken. Why can I not connect then? I have installed Verizon Carrier cab. Com4 is showing up as "NO PHONE". Before it showed my phone.
I took my sister to breakfast this morning. On the way there, no GPS lock. Sigh. Sats in view, but only using one or two.
I shut down phone, then rebooted.
After eating inside, I fired up VisualGPSCE again. After only a few brief moments, locks on 7 satellites. Then it went back and forth between 6 and 10 locks.
Awesome!
So, either ephemeris was finally downloaded, or aGPS is working. Unsure which.
I loaded google maps, turned on satellite view, and the satellite imagery overlay correctly showed me on the south end of the restaurant. Cool stuff. GM claimed 30 meters accuracy, but it had to be much better. I would estimate 1-5.
I am wondering if this gpsOne chip is sensitive enough to use for geocaching. That would be cool.
Dude it isnt always on com 4. I have had it on com 10 and many others. Click add a port and find the diagnostic port. Don't blame others for your lack of knowledge. Your computer assigns this port and it can change.
The gps should be accurate to 1-2 meters I would think. But only is clear view of sky where you can find the most satellites.
There are no diagnostic ports to add.
Lack of knowledge my ass.
Google will reveal many others with the same issue.
Now unable to authentic my phone on Verizon.. just tried to make a call. Weird since apparently data and SMS both work.
Well I have gotten qpst to work on 3.2.5, 3.2.6, 3.3.4, and 4.1.2. So yes you are having a problem. It isn't with the rom. Are you sure you are dialing ##3424 send to enter diagnostics mode
Can you elaborate on how you have done this?
I go to add a port in QPST, but there are no ports to add in the left column.
Yes I am sure I am entering diagnostics mode.
I open QPST configuration. Then select "add new port". Then find which port my phone is on. Also are you using XP? I am guess you have the modem drivers installed being that you have used qpst before.
Yes, and yes.
There are no additional ports to add listed.
hmm. Maybe a computer problem. Do you see the phone listed under com ports under device manager. If not your computer isnt seeing your phone for some reason.
Under comp mgmnt there is HTC USB modem (with a yellow ! reinstalling drivers now)
Then there is a HTC diagnostic interface on COM4.
I can confirm that aGPS is working, since when I turn on GPS with GPS toggle, I instantly get a network logon request.
My akey has been deleted, that's why it doesn't automatically connect with EVDO.
See dont blame others. Ask questions and get answers before you accuse.

Get aGPS to work in Google Maps??

I had the feature in other roms that would give me an approximate location on Google Maps almost instantly when it was opened. Within 2400 meters or so. With the new NFSFAN rom this is not the case. It finds GPS lock, but until then it has no idea where I am. The weather location thing works so aGPS should be working, just not working in Google Maps.
Not sure if it will work in your rom, or even be the problem. I assume you are talking about tower based location.
The rom I was using it worked then suddenly stopped after upgrading. I compared the registries and found that for some reason some keys in the registry werent being created. I added these and it started working again.
HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
supports_extended_ril value=1
(this will enable location based off of cell phone tower)
supports_extended_wifi value=1
(this will enable location based off of your wifi access point)
You will need to restart google maps for it to take effect.
hope it helps.

what is your distribution_channel value set to? I have it at gmm-htc trying to see if that is preventing me from connecting to the gps towers.
i don't have HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
I have: HKLM>software>google>cll>permission list>services.exe
I put those values in cll since there was nothing in the other two and it did not work.
I'm also trying to get GPS to work on NFSFAN's 1.05 ROM (either aGPS or GPS). I don't have the registry keys mentioned above either.
I'm on the latest USCC radio.

Do you have the right COM port and baud rate set up? If your GPS isn't working right, you may have to manually set up the hardware parameters. Try to use QuickGPS/HTC GPSTool/VisualGPS or whatever GPS tool NFS cooked in his rom and see if it can connect and get a few locks.

??? is that a key also for google maps, I dont have one like that. I just have the two mentioned keys (after I added them) along with one other key.
Have you tried adding the above keys and see if it helps?
Keep in mind, I am not currently using the same rom as you, its just a problem I noticed with my rom and the keys fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I believe you only need to setup the com and baud rate when using an external gps or using your phone as a gps for something else (ie computer)
Good luck!

Not necessarily. If the software that you are using doesn't detect the hardware right away, you have to manually set it up. I happened to my Fuze when I had it. I had iGo8 and had to input the settings by hand. Same thing with my Vogue.
waiting for this one
I have been waiting for this to be discussed. I am on NFSFAN's ROM on verizon and google maps is not working. I will try the above reg hacks and report back
Adding those two reg keys did not work for me. Deepsix who is your carrier?
Just on a note. I have the latest NFS and this feature works for me in Google maps, even though I have the phone disabled and the Data connection turned off as well. I use my Touch as a WiFi VoIP device only.
When I start I get an approximate location, and when I click on the little blue dot it gives me my locale within 100 Meters.
I also did not install any of the providor specific cabs that are in the first post on the NFSFAN thread.
It does work with wifi but not over the towers which is what is really useful. Good to know that it does at least work with wifi though.
Try the provisioning.cab file for your carrier?
At the risk of offending and stating the obvious did you guys with the GPS problems install the carrier specific provissioning .cab in order to get GPS working?
If not, try it:
the attached files on the first post of the thread titled " *Updated March 5th* NFSFAN's Custom WM6.5.5 ROMs "
I'm not allowed to post links yet.

That wont help you, its a very small regional carrier. "inland cellular" I have never been able to get google maps to work even on a stock phone from them. Adding those two reg entries was the only way I could get it to work for me.
Sorry it didnt work for you. I know how frustrating it can be.
Just to make sure everyone understands, the GPS would always for with the location, but when gps is off its supposed to get its location based off of the cell tower id/wifi router id's Thats what the reg edits did for me. You can tell what your getting your location from becuase of the accuracy. GPS said it was within a couple yard where as tower based it was within a couple miles.
Ok I took my touch pro and flashed the most recent nfsfan rom and tried google maps location. With GPS on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi off, using only cellular data I COULDNT get a location.
I closed google maps.
went to regedit and scrolled to
hklm--software--google
for some reason there is not a key titled googlemaps, I am not sure if thats because its baked in the rom or what.
So...
I created a new string under google titled -- googlemaps
under google maps I created a new string value titled supports_extended_ril with a value of 1
I restarted google maps location and with only the cellular data enabled, it gave me a location instantly.
On a side note, there is another key under google titled cll, dont quote me, but I believe thats created for when you enable 'my location' in the sense theme so that your location shows up on the weather tab. I am not sure if you need to enable that also, I did enable it first so if you are still having troubles, try enable that also.
Hope that helps. It seems to work on any rom I have tried it on. Like I said in previous posts, even the stock rom wouldnt give me that location. I dont think it is carrier specific, as if I understand it correctly, google is sent what tower you are using via tower id code, then google compares that to their list of tower locations. Google then send back your approximate location. They also do that with wifi routers.
Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the very detailed scientific post. I have not been able to get GPS working on USCC, there is no carrier cab for it.
I didn't realize after setting the registry entry's that you had to turn off the GPS option in google maps. After turning that off it found my "approximate" location very quickly within half a mile or so of where I was (after also editing the registry).
Thanks everybody! It works well enough for me not to care
That worked for me as well. Thanks! I must have been doing it wrong before because that is a more detailed explanation of what was suggested earlier if I am not mistaken. I cannot believe google would screw something so simple up.
