Hi TP owners,
There's an issue that's been bothering me for a long time. I tried my best on XDA google but I did not came to any conclusions .
The problem is:
wallpapers in landscape look out of size (this is a logical problem because portrait and landscape mode have a different size). Since the release of rhodium manila, we have been more confronted with this "problem".
And I've been wondering if there is any way to easily change the wallpaper of Landscape?
im using SecondToday that allows both TF3D2 and WM6 and I want to change the landscape for both
Can anyone fill me in?
stwater../tdywater.. not related to manila but default today screen. (and your 240_320 is for QVGA)
For manila, the background cache is \Windows\HomeBackground.img
For Rhodium manila, u need to delete abovesaid file before u can remove/change landscape wallpaper. its a good way to make your wallpaper image file with 640 x 640.
Ok that makes more sense
First VGA, "tdywater_*_*" to begin with. What exact filenames with what size are used for raphael?
Also I removed the \homebackground.img but what file must I replace to have the landscape wallpaper then?
This may look silly asking so much but I cannot find this info anywhere
Is this procedure so clear for everyone except me? cause I can't find any info on it for Raphael.
Thanks allot for replying to my problem, monx!
The correct name for vga is tdywater_480_640 (P) tdywater_640_480 (L)
But it is not so important. stwater.jpg/gif/png can be general if no other *stwater* *tdywater* existence.
Fit size :
portrait =480x588
landscape = 640x428
homebackground.img is the cache wallpaper image file. no need to delete if u r using raphael (non-ported) manila. change ur favourite wallpaper via manila settings tab.
for pre-configured wallpaper for manila, use this key :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"CachedBackgroundPath"="your_wallpaper_including_path.jpg"
"HomeBackgroundPath"="your_wallpaper_including_path.jpg"
Hope this help a bit.
I understand but what I really want is to change the wallpaper for landscape on Rhodium manila and wm6 to fit perfectly when you slide out the keyboard. On the screenshots you see a gap that is black. In wm6, it fills the gap because of patern.
i would like to do the same as i have the TF3d v2 now and the landscape wallpaper is streched is there a seperate file to use for a landscape wallpaper so it isnt streached.
not anyone that has a solution for this?

I have not been able to get one single theme / homescreen to load properly on my 3125. Still WM5 of course.
It is as if it pushes the image too far to the top so I have a black bar under all my backgrounds above the start menu.
I have a before and after image here.
The "hottie.jpg" is what it is supposed to look like
The "Lauren_Pope.jpg" is a picture of my phone with the homescreen installed.
Every homescreen I have tried does this. Notice the how the image looks pushed to the top of smashed and there is a black bar above the start menu.
Works fine on my phone. Just check if color scheme and background image in home screen menu are set to default.
(Im using the latest Cingular ROM.)
I think the reason I was having this problem was I was changing the background image. I found that if I leave it as "default" the theme works fine.
Thanks pimps
My favorite all time homescreen
This is my favorite homescreen I used this for several years back in the MPX200 days!!! I would like to share it with you guys.. There is one problem and I hope someone can fix it. The image / homescreen is 176x220 so it doesn't "FIT" the 240x320 newer smartphone size.
Hope you guys like it if you fix it please repost it here.!!!

This exact problem also exists on the Dash WM5 and is corrected on the WM6 release for the Dash. It seems to be a bug in the Settings/HomeScreen program that miscalculates the size of the image (making it too small) when choosing a background image other than Default.

In the KAISER section all links and stuff about HTC Album, gestures to manage pictures.
I tested with PK 3.0 ROM an it WORKS at 128 DPI the menus are 1/4 of the screen, but slideshow is in full screen.
Nice app, needs to be "SKINNED" to work for us, od just used at 192 DPI!
In fact, it's necessary to modify the .xml to reskin completly the app....
It's long but work

and delete the skin cache dat file in windows, and some minor reg edits..
currently got this running in Portrait 96dpi two columns thumbnails with a preview in the middle of the screen. Still need some work, but I'm getting there.
Is quite a neat app.
Let us know... and also a 128 DPI version for elderly perople will be great!

I second the motion for a 128dpi version but deny the part about old people
Guys you can manage this yourselves.. Not rocket science
change the shortcut to the album, get rid of the mode and other flag.
have a look at the reg entries under hklm/software/htc and see which ones a relevant to you.
change some of the flags in the skin_p xml file, i doubled the w= sizes and the width and height of the thumbnail setting to get a bigger preview.. on that same line you can change the colums and rows.. you may need to change the size of the mask file for preview depending on what you want.
if you look carefully you can change the menus & options etc..
finally delete the skincache .dat and restart the album..(need to do this everytime you change the skin xml).
worst comes to worst you can always reinstall the album cab if you **** up..
so far Ive not been able to get the right hand 3rd of the screen refreshing, if you run with 6 or 7 colums then you can get the outside of the boxes showing on a mouseover, but the way i run mine it leaves a trace of the edge of preview on the screen.
will pop my xml and change mask bmp up in a zip later, just back the originals up.
I haven't tried editting the xml file yet, but I have noticed that when I start the Album, the orientation is inverted lanscape, even if windows is in portrait. There was a file on the original Kaisar thread to start it in a normal orientation, but it doesn't work (or at least not on the Athena anyway)
Anyone know how to get it to start in a right handed landscape orientation, that is, the default for the Athena?
Very nice find by the way, I rarely look outside the Athena forums, so don't find things like this, but I'll be sure to keep a look out now, thanks a lot

I just use the portrait as I can't be bothered with doing two XML files
There's nothing I can see that affects the screen rotation other than the link command -mode:camera in the shortcut, which I got rid of anyway.
Reg entries that seem to make a difference are under hklm\software\htc\touchscroll\htcalbumclass
Enclosed the portrait xml file and picmask, both to go into windows..
**please note these were done for my amusement, and to see what makes a difference, if you don't like em don't moan!
nothing new for me.
everything works perfectly except two things. first, when i open the program it starts upside down. but when i click on a pic it comes up the right way. second how can i tell the program what directory to look in for pics. thanks
Actually this is a modifying thread for TF2D (TouchFlo 2D)! So maybe some experts can help and make this into VGA compatible then all the Athena users can use this. BTW i have this installed on my device and it works like a charm! But the problem is that it takes only 1/4 of the screen cause its QVGA... I asked Herg (the one who released this as a beta) and he told me that we have to :
1.Dissassemble and reassemble the exe files
2.Making pictures 2 times bigger (actually we can use diamond so we can skip this step)
3.Changin some xml files.
Now I am asking all you guys that can do this to help us and let Athena users taste this thing...
All the credits go to yourselves and definitely Athena users and me appreciate what you'll do for us.

Help
Hi Guys, as an x7510 owner I would like to see touchflo 2d ported to vga too and I may help with it too, right now I have some work to finish but hopefully in a few days I should be able to have a look on things till then could someone get me a "build" or "zip" that contains the original Diamond pictures (or point me to one) as those all already at vga mode so why redo something that already exists and then I could focus on the other changes.
If someone already picked up this work and got to somewhere please let me know so we combine our forces
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427531
suggests editing the XML will allow different screen sizes.
I created a new thread on this subject which should cover this request too, please post your comments there as it is not just HTC Athena but all HTC VGA devices should work with it:

It is very simple, go to the last thread linked, there is a post there that tells you what to do, you download the original m2d, whatever the lastest version is. then after installing you overwrite the files with the VGA ones to the windows folder..
I've just re-read the topic and it makes sense to me.
It's very easy to do.
0---------
Installations / Download
To install please follow the steps found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173 <--- basically get the last file listed and install it from here, otherwise the original poster will have to redo is post everytime the other thread is updated.
and after you have everything up and running (even in the little left corner of your screen but working) then go to "Start->Settings->Today->Items" and uncheck "TouchFlo" press OK then download this zip file and extract the content to \Windows\ directory on your device.
TouchFlo2D VGA - Ver. 0.1.3
http://rapidshare.com/files/15138227...0.1.3.zip.html
Then go back to "Start->Settings->Today->Items" and check "TouchFlo" again press ok and the full resolution TouchFlo should appear.
IMPORTANT: It seems with the latest Manila2d release (1.00...) the files are installed in read only state so you won't be able to overwrite the files unless you remove the Read only state from the files which are all files in \Windows directory starting with HH_..... and HTCHomeSettings.xml and then all files in \Windows\ManilaGFX
----
You need a proper file program, the one that's built into windows mobile is pants. It can't overwrite files in rom or read only.
I'm presuming since you have an athena you know something about windows mobile, these aren't novice devices, if you don't then I'd really really advise you to do some reading.
For the sake of ease, download total commander, it's free and very powerful, search the forum using the search at the top and you'll find millions of links to it.
In /windows folder after installing the original m2d (not the VGA version) using total commander, select SHOW>select/unselect files> type in hh* and everything beginning with those will appear selected, While they are selected (highlighted) press FILE>properties and untick the readonly box.
Do the same to all the files in /windows/manillagfx
Now open where ever you saved the vga files and copy the entire lot across to windows, and accept overwrite all
@fards thx a lot.. very detailed description so even I managed to install manila 2d
TF2D Feedback
Moderator - I am posting here as my comments are based on use on X7501 with factory ROM, if this is an incorrect place please mirror to appropriate section - there are too many to choose from!
First impression on update 20 - EXCELLENT WORK EVERYONE!
Overall device performce only slightly reduced, all programs work as before, touchflo finger slider on bottom works very smoothly.
The Home, People, Messages, Mail, Weather, Maps Search, Settings and Programs Tabs ALL work Perfectly!
Feedback for next update on Tabs.
Internet - Can a GUI selection of browser be incorporated so registry edit is not necessary to change default browser? So one can choose IE, factory Opera or other.
Photos and Videos - Pictures do not flip with finger swipe & picture takes up one quarter of frame
Audio Manager - Library and Player screen uses only top left quarter of screen, the rest is scrambled static in library and black in player. In Library, the text does not refresh in static area, and piles up into solid bar. Would it be easier (or possible) to simply link to media player 10 like HTC Home, get rid of audio manager, then redundant software is not needed?
With these updates it would work perfectly as if OEM.
Are you running successfully in Landscape?
Hi anx7501. I have a x7510 and have also loaded the Manila ver 20 and then pijulius TouchFlo for VGA devices over the top. However, I have had limited success in getting the screen to show as I would like in landscape.
Beacuse of the size of the clock and lack of space in landscape I've been trying to recode the HTCHomeSettings.xml so that Alarm, Call History and Calendar will all continue to show in Portrait, but only Calendar shows in Landscape leaving room for the Tabs along the bottom. I have atempted to do that by editing the lines for Alarm and Call History by inserting zeros thus: <Property name="IDHMWG_MISSEDCALLBTN_RECT" id="30" value="24,304,456,364, 0,0,0,0" /> but alas it is not working.
Have you managed to "crack the code" on this, or come up with an alternative solution - maybe a smaller clock?
Also have you found any alternative skins that will brighten up the device from the basic black?
Finally for some reason my Brightness slider is stuck in the left position. I don't remember this being the case when I had Manila ver 17 loaded. Does your slider work OK?
Hi robjhellis,
Regarding the landscape issue, because this was created for device like diamond with puny screen, it was intended for portrait so I haven't bothered to play with it, also landscape requires an extensive redraw in addition to resizing - I just don't have the time. Though someone in another thread has already resized M2D to work in landscape; however, I don't remember if it was for QVGA or VGA, when I find it again I will post the link here.
Try looking at this for landscape mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436753&highlight=m2d+landscape
I have a Mugen Power 2400 mha battery which lasts a full day, sometimes a little more, with factory ROM. With M2D installed, it chewed through the battery in half a day so for that reason I didn't adjust the brightness and left it alone. The programs I concentrated on were graphic intensive like Adobe reader and dwf viewer. After a few days of only half-day use between recharge, I hard reset and went back to HTC-Home VGA which provides similar tabs (weather, programs), dosen't chew through the battery and works in landscape. I think that because of the difference between devices with factory TF2D - ours has to max out CPU & GPU to operate smooth killing the battery. Short of creating new video driver specifically for our ATI chip, I don't think there's a workaround - btw how's your battery life?
There is a thread in Development and Hacking with M2D skins posted, try there and see if you find something you like.
I really like what I saw and admire the work evryone did, but I rely on my advantage heavily and didn't want to have to recharge or change battery at lunch - sadly I had to drop it. Hope you had/have better luck with yours.
Thanks for your follow-up. I discoverd that the Brightness slider issue was a known bug for vers. 20 & 21 of manila. A fix patch has been created and appended to post 2 (the fixes post) on the manila thread.
As for mbarvian's work on landscape, whilst its great work it does not appear to do anything for us on the VGA advantage/athena. With nthe keyboard attached I can use the left and right arrow keys to move between pages so that is a definate work around to not havig the tabs showing.
hey do you guys know how to install touch flo on the att 8125
Hey on the TG01 my today screen is the official Windows 6.5 one.. however the wallpaper is designed for the portrait screen, so when I flip the phone on its side (landscape) the wallpaper is squashed and replicates itself. Is there anyway to set 2 separate pictures to stop this "ugliness"?
Regards,
Oliverjh
This isn't really a solution, but you can use an 800 x 800 pixel wallpaper, and that will stop the tiling you are seeing.

On the windows folder of device there is a file named stwater_480_800.jpg and there is another one named stwater_800_480.jpg.The first one is for portrait and the second one is for landscape.
choose two pictures that you like your own.I am sure that you already have so many nice pictures. rename them as above and replace them in windows folder.
also u can try theese nice 800x800 papers

Ok I been up and down these and other forums for a few days. I registered here a while back but never posted because I had no problems... But I searched... came close but no cigar. I downloaded Numerous wallpaper apps and played around with different ratios, But no matter what I do I always find myself forced to crop the background (if it doesn't crop it zooms the hell out of the picture). I'm I missing something I'm on a completely stock rooted 2.2... I'm at my wits end with this, so close to just saying screw it and finding a decent LWP... anyone care to lend a helping hand?
Edit* Most of the stuff I find applies to portrait mode.. I use Landscape mode 99% of the time
in landscape the resolution should be 960x480
in portrait 960x800
Umm...no.
Wallpaper images, regardless of orientation need to be 960x800 in order to maintain the sharpest image possible. See my post here.
The attached file is a grid 960x800, which is the recommended size for a wallpaper in android. That is 2 times the width by the height of the phone screen.
Make this the wallpaper on your phone and test it out. you should be able to use the entire image as your wallpaper. Make sure you have auto-rotate on and that your home app is scrolling the wallpaper. If you use a home app that allows you to change the number of homescreens you will see that how much of the image is scrolled changes with the number of screens.
If you use auto-rotation you will be able to see exactly what part of an image can be seen with the phone in each orientation. This is the problem when creating wallpapers, particularly ones with content (kids, a car, etc.) that you want visible in either orientation.
I keep so many icons on my homescreens that mot of the wallpaper is covered so I use a simple wallpaper. If you want the wallpaper to be more visible and make a statement about you or your phone you have to consider many factors. The release version of the Streak with Android 1.6 was customized to allow a different wallpaper on each screen, to get that effect now you have to use an app.
MultiPicture Wallpaper
StreakSet Wallper app
WallStreak - it's buried in the thread
960x800 wallpaper gallery
So - there is no simple answer. Let us know what ends up working for you.
Edit: I like to edit my wallpaper images on my PC making sure that the image is a multiple of 960x800 (to preserve the aspect ratio) and the resize to 960x480 before copying to the phone. The gallery app will allow you to select an entire 960x800 image.
Edit2: Your home app may handle the wallpaper differently than stock or other phone apps, so test on your specific setup.
Marvin... that grid line you provided seems to be helping ALOT. It fits landscape without a problem now I can plot exact grid points... I'll do a quick run to see how it looks. If I am content I will post results but if not I will get some rest. its 2:30 lol... but thanks alot, all of you.
Def. happy with how this came out, that image wasn't the proper dimensions so I edited it (not by much) now all I have to do is line it up on a fresh canvas and boom... thanks again. def solved my problems

Glad the info helped. If you have a 960x800 version of that wallpaper allpaper attach it to a post and I will add it to the wallpaper gallery I keep.
yes i meant that in landscape only 960x480 is shown but the wallpaper is 960x800
