(REQ) Easy Cabs to replace Default Fonts WM6.5 - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Man I am busting my head open trying to figure out how to change fonts for windows 6.5. I am trying to do this so I can make quick easy cabs that are titanium friendly, and default font friendly. Meaning for it to be neatly informed. So far I havent had luck.
I tried just re-naming the font to default font name but that is destructive
I tried registry edits but I only found some for wm6.1 and didn't work on titanium
I tied opening themed titanuim cabs but I didnt see any registry edits.
So here is where I am at, can someone please make a generic cab for default titanium setting, I'll go in with wincab and make different quick easy to install cabs for those who have a font in mind, kind of like request a font cab for titanium, thread.
Thank you for who ever helps, together we can make this thread grow, and hope to help.

Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470246
As for titanium, I don't think that's really possible as of right now,
you'd have to use something like the plugin installer that all of the panels use to install.
and hopefully it has an option to delete the old name or something like that.
But that's all I can really think of.

CommManager Skinning

Hey fellas.
I am sure it's been discussed before and my searches to find something fruitful have been met with limited success:
I am looking for a way (if possible) to skin my comm manager. I have the 6 Button lateral one from Custel's V1.1 and not the 8 or 10 button manager.
Any idea's?
You should find one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316107
I'm using the HTC Kaiser Comm Manager Fixed.
I see the comm managers but I am trying to find a way to skin my current one. Is there a way to editthe skin on my device? Where are the skins for the comm manager kept at on the device?
All of the graphics for the Comm manager exist in windows\
If you find those files and edit/replace them, you can change the whole way comm manager works.
Problem is, every button is its own image and each has 3+ states (on, off, disabled, or other options). On the 10 button comm manager, that means there are 80+ files to edit.
Thanks Dishe.
Looks like I have a lot of cutting & pasting...
Update:
For anyone looking, on my Alltel PPC6800 I found the files to edit in the \windows dir. The backgrounds are the P_BG & L_BG (portrait & landscape). The status icons are labeled as Status_Off & Status_On.

What someone should do (I'd do it if I had the time!) is create a photoshop .psd file with all of these graphics assembled as slices. Then we can change the background color, etc. and export them as individual files without having to manually edit each one.
In the mean time, the long way is the only way...

i just got done getting all the files on to my card... and now on my computer.. should i make a PSD or just zip it and then people can do w/e they would like?
i have all the PNG files in the windows dir.
I am trying to do what you are but I posted a thread about the access rights of the files for being able to replace them... are you not running into the same problem?
It wouldnt let me modify them at first but once I copied them to my computer, clicked on properties and removed the read-only, all was well. After amendment, they copied over the original on my device with no problems...
Oh wow I will give that a shot... thank you!
I am not sure how that would work though, seeing that the files on the device would still be read-only and shouldn't be allowed to copy over. When I changed the settings in TC it didn't save them either...
Nvm I figured it out! Thx

Honestly, I'm planning on replacing them on the ROM-level, and flashing a new custom rom with my new files.

dc13, getting the files are not a big deal... I have a decomposed ROM image on my computer with all the files that go inside it, so I didn't even need to look on the PPC. I just viewed all files by thumbnail, and grabbed the 80+ files that looked like they belong to the comm manager. BTW, not every .png is for the CM. Some of them can be HTC Home, or the Dialer, etc...
I would have put them up if people were actually having a hard time getting them. The problem is changing them in a uniform fashion!
For example, if you're familiar with photoshop, and you want to change the gradient background to be, say, red and black instead of grey and black, you'll need to create a full sized gradient background that starts from the bottom of the screen and goes to the top (just like the current background image which starts at the bottom as a darker color and ends as a lighter gray on the top), and then make sure somehow that every icon has the appropriate part of the background appearing behind it in the png. This is very time-consuming to do to 80 files.
However, if you had the time and knowledge of Photoshop and ImageReady slices, you could create ONE .psd file that contained all the .pngs arranged in their proper places. Then, change the background of this larger picture, and do whatever you need to do with the icons (which would have to be arranged as layers), then you click to save it, you can have it automatically split it into all the slices needed as individual .png files.
Once this is set up, skinning the comm manager will take a matter of minutes. The problem is that this is probably 2-4 hours worth of work to set up, and I personally don't have the time to dedicate to it right now, especially since its not a paying gig.
I put together a quick guide to creating a Today, Slide2Unlock, Startup, Dialer and Commanager theme. It's in the Hacking & Modifying section of the forum...

It's not that difficult to create a commanager skin, but it does take time to make it look good.
I currently have skinned my commager. I am using the commanager that poorlyduck uses in his theme package but mine has a new vista look.

[ROM DEV] QuickMenu instead of honeycomb. Kitchen package + CABs!

Hello guys...
as some of you were asking me, how to permanently put QuickMenu in the place of honeycomb, with a RAM return, I'm putting for you a ready to use package for that.
So - first, we're just installing QuickMenu. Easy, normal process, I'm using the same package for two years already Be warned though it requires DelayedExec app, as QM was sometimes causing some problems during a cold boot. If you don't have it, or don't want it, just re-edit LNK file to remove its usage.
Then - it seems QM can't capture "start" word under wm6.5, so we're using a great app named "StartButton" and set it to capture this word and call QM.
Then - hey! Where're some of the icons from the settings menu?... Well - remember some of them were out of their folders? We need to get them back...
In the end... we want to get rid of the honeycomb itself, as it's still sitting in our RAM - almost 2MB of RAM on QVGA! It's a nightmare... how to do that? Easy... just edit proper CPR files and set them to... null text this way system won't be able to prepare a whole scene and won't load those files - returning you all this RAM. Be careful - it's prepared for QVGA, so for other resolutions, you have to re-edit this file and change the filenames in it!
The package contains all those things - preconfigured QuickMenu, fixed settings items in their proper folders (done with a provXML file), preconfigured StartButton and special initflashfiles.txt file, changing the CPR files to the empty ones.
Enjoy your brand new, fast and full of RAM WM6.5!
DOWNLOADS:
1. For the kitchen:
The package in the EXT format for ervius' kitchen can be downloaded from here.
2. For normal users:
2a. twopumpchump compiled a CAB installation, it's here. It fits all the resolutions!
2b. jfrm reedited this CAB, so it doesn't remove the honeycomb. So, if you want, just quit QM and there's your honeycomb back! It's here.
2c. Another version from jfrm - tapping on logo will pop QM, while tapping on the "Start" word will pop honeycomb. It's here.
Man!
last night i was trying to make this works over the START word in task bar... this is great...!!!
BTW do you know how to remove the titanium?
I dont want the whole files, but if i disable chome in sys or bronze or bronzeEA the start wont works and the devices freeze by itself... maybe we couldnt and just need to disable it in today settings and thats all! but it seems that the semitransparent bars gets lost... in that way we can have a full vanilla lots of storage and great RAM with the speed of WM6.5 and its awsome scrolling.
Nice work dude! will try it on my next release as a ultra vanilla!

hi friend, ltns just tried the new "old style" start menu and seems to be working great. i did get the popup for DelayedExec since i dont have it in my rom, but i can fix that np. im partial to 6.5 start menu myself, but do you mind if i make a cab, or you can if you want, so some of my users can have this on my 6.5 roms? alot of people still want the old 6.1 menus and this would be great for them

but can you see the bronzeres error? both plugins... weather and some other in blank and i have only 12mb of ram... could it be due to lzx compression ?

Install this one as normal and then manually edit StartMenu_Global_*.cpr and StartMenu_GridScene_*.cpr files
Maybe someone will reedit this cab and include a full set of cpr files. Or maybe TPC has already done this.. just check it

Is it possible to keep both menus working?
I have been thinking to much before going to 6.5 due the lost of QMenu and WkTask. So for me your trick is a very, very good news. Thank you very much.
Anyway, Is it possible to keep both menus working?
In my old Hermes 6.1 I have Original Star Menu set to Ms logo Long Press and QMenu to normal press, and now with the huge memory of my new Touch Pro, will be nice to keep both. One for finger use and the other one for stylus time.
Thanks for the effort.

How should I install it in a working rom?
Now it works perfect, only thing is I dont see the time and clock in settings anywhere.

It's because I put it into personal section, and not to system, as it was originally I prefer it that way.
Sorry to bother you again, but I'm afraid that the cab is going to overwrite the cpr files and make me loose the HoneyComb.
It that right?
Remember my fist question here, I want to keep both menus working.
remember to search
Think about this
the cab file can be open with winrar or cabmanager or some more apps so... open the cab file and delete the cpr files... save it and you are good to go...
Be cool man our developers woks hard to get more power here.
Sorry, I don't want to disturb.
My english is far from good and maybe there is some missunderstood.
Will try this way. Thanks.

[Q] How to create a complete Theme

Hi everyone,
i´ve searched this forum and google, but i can´t find a tutorial about "how to create a Theme for manila" or else.
I´ve got an idea for theme, but i don´t know in which folder they are or to change them.
Has someone an idea?

Welllllllllllllllllll first you have to define "theme" there are alot of people with a Dinik Icon set and Dinik slider.. paired with a wallpaper of choice and call it a theme..
Then there is stuff like Buuf s theme and OrangeStreet that dig a little deeper than just a few icons and skins..
Then.. there is the THEMES... but before diving into a THEME.. know that even something like OrangeStreet (my first theme i did with ConanTroutMan) has over 1300 editted files in it.. and this was before i even knew about pngs in the windows folder or .dll mods , signing and unsigning certs, swype and t9 skins.. hell we could go on for days..
SOOOOOOOOOO
imo
Start by skinning all the manilla files you can find..
Then take alot of the ones you dont know .. and write a number on them.. 1-whatever.. and upload them to your phone.. this will help you find the stuff that wasnt obvious on the first pass..
THEN edit the pngs in the windows folder of the phone..
THEN Open PE explorer and start cracking open dlls..
which requires signing and unsigning certs.
By now you will have lost 45 pounds...AND your wife ...and you dog will have died of starvation.. But you will have a theme that is nothing more than a heavy duty skin.
So then you learn .lua and registry editting.. lua there are entire college courses on lua btw.. coding.. and xml... and use this to move and push some stuff around.. and THEN youll have a full theme.
Thanks, for the quick reply.
Well i think i have to start at the beginning:
so how can I extract the manila png files to edit them?
Use CFC_GUI and plus your phone in and turn it on.. .then click device.. import from device.. then export to pngs.. aim it at a folder.. and you will get a whole fist full of icons to edit.
The second easy to get to set you already know.. phone/windows/_.pngs
and if you cant get one to insert and replace itself, via copy and paste to replace.. then use WinCe to cab it and replace it.
Just make sure when you are done.. pile them all up in one cab so there arent a million cabs on your phone.
Read a Tutorial on CFC_GUI.. you can edit about 1200 files using just that.
Btw i cant wait to see what you come up with.. and if you need anyhelp that you dont wanna post on here (some ideas arent meant to be shared till AFTER they work) feel free to pm me.
This is where it all started for me......

[Q] changing cht 2.0 themes

hello...I'm a noob thatd had my he2 now for some months...I've figured out a lot of thingz like installing cabs and what not...but then came cht 2.O and how you can change the theme of it phone...even with a stock ROM you can change it theme...now my problem is that once i download the cab or zip file...i must not neo utting it in the right place or extracting it right.can someone please help me out and explain this to me.i mean even the most knowledgeable people were a noob like me at one point. i have used google bit no help, and can't find it in here.thanks for your time.
try this thread......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834139
thanks for trying to help...but that is for some1 who pretty much knows all about cht...that just said make a wallpaper file...what then i out the theme cab/zip in that file and just using chts will make it change...?
Your welcome....
Sorry I thought thats what you were asking about....
Im not sure if your talking about a ready made CHTS layout/theme or just a normal theme that you want to save and use with CHTS.
Which theme are you talking about? Knowing that will help solve your problem.
What you might need to do is set everything up and then save it as a layout in CHTS.
If you can link me to the stuff your trying to use that will help too
i REALLY appreciate you taking ye time to help me...i will look for the post I'm talking about...its a theme/skin that dinik made where the clock and quicklinks all look like glass...i might not even be using the right wording...lol...doubt it though...give me a little and ill put the link up...
back again...i think i really might be using wrong words...instead of theme i might mean ROM...here is the link...scroll down to the second post...any of the 4...once again...thanks 4 taking ur time to help me...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
ok, you either mean diniks "anastasia" theme or djc's "touch of glass" theme.....
neither of these are directly available to use with chts straight away.
what you need to do is install the various elements of the theme to your device then when you have it set up how you like it, save it with chts.
that way even if you flash a new rom or do a hard reset then you can restore that theme in a few seconds....
search the themes and apps section for whichever theme you prefer and start from there.
hope that helps.....
thankyou but what i mean is that i don't know how to get it to work...once i download thatd say...touch of glass...where exectly do i put it on my as card...and and when i extract it all the files that come up don't do anything...I'm used to cabs that do everything for you...lol...
i have cht 2.0...and when i download touch of glass...the look of my phone doesn't change...am i putting touch of glass in the wrong file...main qeustion is what to do after i download touch of glass to make it working on my hd2...
thanks for hanging in there with me...really...really appreciate it....VERY MUCH...
no problem....
I thought touch of glass was in cabs.
im at work just now but when I get home ill have a look

yes some do and some don't especially touch glass cabs...need install to device !...why some even have problems with chtscheduler on sd card and have to install it to device (i have no probs on sd card with chts)
as for diniks icons for cht2.0 are available, but a little different (valeria style). you can change all to total dinik valeria icon set for matching

i dont trust using a cab to install icons.
search out jwmd icon changer and use that, once you have changed the icons you can save them as a theme and switch between sets quickly.
You also need to clear the sense icon cached to make some icons change.
I forgt how to do this manually because jwmd has it built in as a feature.....
and yes, all mods MUST be installed to device memory not sd card.......

run the cab again and it will ask if you wish to remove the previous install, say yes then when it asks about device memory or sd card hit cancel and it should be uninstalled....
if not just find the files on your sd card and delete them....

[Q] Rom Cooking Questions

HI guys
I seem to try a lot of roms but would like an easy optioin to go back to my preferred layout. I dont want to use a backup program as I am also learning rom cooking.
OK so what I want to do is take overcome, pack adwlauncher into it AND modify its settings (add icon theme, move front screen icons, add some widgets to the homescreen etc)
I Have been experimenting and not having much luck.
First thing i did was edit the build.prop and modify the density to my liking. Works fine.
I deleted launcher.apk from and added adwlauncher.apk to /system/app.
It boots but no launcher , I assumed it would come up with the default "select program for this action" in first book allowing me to set adwlauncher, but it does not.
So useless to me, no launcher.
How do i do this?
I also assume that there is a better place to put adw so as to allow for updating? Where are market programs stored?
ALSO
How do I change adw's settings to my liking and pre package them?
I assume I can just setup adw how I like, take the config files off my galaxy AND package them into the overcome zip somewhere. Where might they be and where might I need to put them to.
Oh one other thing, adwthemes. These come from market I'm assuming as an apk. If I just add the apk to appropriate place is that enough for adw to see them so that once my config is in place the correct icons will be used.
Thanks very much for any help guys and excuse me if these answers are easy to find, I didnt have much luck with my search terms.
Hopefully one day I will be talented enough to build my own overcome. lol
Oh, for those who dont know, overcome is a rom for our galaxy tabs, forget the references I'm after generic help
I'm not sure, but I believe that putting apps in the /system/app folder makes it more difficult to update them.
I would create a folder called 'data' in your ZIP, with the APK in it. Not sure though, never tested it Perhaps you'll have to modify the update-script too, to make it work, but hey, that's the fun of cooking
I thought so, because that is a protected system folder..
Anyway I half figured this one out. I need to push /data/com.ADWFOLDER with an update script. Re the settings. Unfortunately, I have been told this is impossible..
Can anyone elaborate?
You could possibly try renaming it launcher.apk..
